Browne's gaze furrowed into a serious stare. These children were getting ballsy. With each passing second he could hear them shouting all sorts of things. Perhaps it had been a mistake to accept this challenge after all. Looking about the field, his eyes lingered on his group. If they won, there was nothing gained. If they lost, the children across from them would get overwhelmed. To be young and unyielding. He remembered a time like that. Perhaps he was overthinking this. After all, this was just a game. And in the end, he only came for his badgers. There's wasn't a thing in the world he would deny them if he could. But he was meant to be their father whenever they stayed here. With the new year having arrived, he wondered how much harder that task could become after last year.

His senses returning, he could hear shouting in the back. Everyone was in their own zone yet mindlessly yelling about towards one another. Some followed his rhythm of pulling the rope, others got stuck in a series of unbalanced moves. Teamwork was what was meant to get them through this. Much like his house was his team, and he was there for them. Hearing Ami comment on the French nurse had Caradoc bend over laughing. A wide grin on his face, he needed a few seconds to recover. "Amis, Ami. It means friends!" He shouted in clarification towards the girl. Doc was nowhere near speaking or reading the language. But he knew some words. His daughter attended Beauxbatons after all.

If you're reading this... You're awesome.

SEPTEMBER 5TH
@Aurelia Roberts @Piérre Marchonné

Perfect - just perfect! Scarlett just had to be the only one whose hands slipped off the rope this time. She glanced around. No professor had, with their seemingly invincible team and no fellow student had as well. Apparently, not only was Hogwarts a school for models, it was also one for bodybuilders. Even Piérre had managed to hold onto the rope, what with all his blathering about how weak he was. And to rub salt in the already painful wound, the professors had to be winning as well! They heaved their rope another square down - two rounds in a row this was. It looked like Cecily, Ami and Willow had joined the professors team as well, the older students with more strength contributing to the winning team.

"No chance," laughed Scarlett to Aurelia, if not slightly nervously. At this rate, Scarlett's team was going to lose. And Scarlett hated losing.

If the student team could just shape up and get their act together, then they might stand a chance. The professors couldn't win - she refused to believe it and refused to be a victim of their bragging at the end of the game. Scarlett could hear some of her classmates shouting encouragement. She wasn't going to do that, but the thought of losing spurred her on and she grabbed the rope again and pulled harder, giving it a hopefully good yank.

She gave the rope as good of a tug as she could possibly manage, stepping back with her left foot to keep as steady as the rope inched slightly toward their side. Their team was slowly gaining the upper hand, and River was hoping it wouldn’t have time to turn completely around. One can never know with these types of games. One of the students lost their grip on the rope a bit, perhaps the tug toward the professors and her fellow prefects was enough to shake her grip. She couldn’t really see a whole lot of what was going on over in the front of the professors. Some of them were definitely too tall for her to have any good view. And she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t slightly worried that a good bit of momentum would send the adults toppling over the smaller prefects. She wasn’t sure if her small body would be able to handle that all too well, and all that would be needed was if some of the students let go of the rope as the professors pulled. The thought made River tighten her grip of the rope nervously, and try to figure out how she’d avoid being squashed if such an occurrence was to happen. If all went well, there would be no perfect pancakes today. At least this game was going more smooth than her previous game of tug of war. That hadn’t ended well at all, so far there were no fights breaking out, and in River’s opinion, simply that was a win.

Spirits were high on both sides of the rope it would seem. A certain Frenchman was talking about winning and pointing out how uncreative the fighting talk was whilst flexing his incredible arms (if that description was better than the previous one). Her former classmate spoke to the group of students - mostly far too ambitious Slytherins - about the wager. The Keeper of Keys was in full spirits it seemed.

The students were certainly being... loud. Instant regret. She much rather be in her office, researching far more important matters at hand then be here, ruining her nail polish and listening to some children being far too loud for her liking. Silence was really something that no one appreciated here, it would seem. Sigh.

Hjørdis instantly missed her summer holidays. It was quiet. Her companion - her apparently only friend - did not fear the silence either. Sometimes, they would sit together and just read in peace and quiet. Enjoy each other's company without filling the quiet with awkward conversation. Glancing over at him, she quirked an eyebrow as she saw how into this he was. Marcus was really trying here. Welp. She probably should pull harder.

And for Ami's sake. Despite not wanting to be here, Hjørdis gripped the rope tighter and pulled. The sooner they did this, they sooner this was over and she could stop. Maybe repaint her nails that were likely going to be chipped as heck by then!

Rosalind grunted and took a step back as the professors drew more of the rope their way. It was satisfying to be victorious over some of the snot-nosed kids who had made comments about throwing out her back or her being an old lady.. but it didn't feel very satisfying when she considered that she was stealing victory from a bunch of children. That wouldn't stop her from rubbing their noses in it if they failed to stop her, though.

"If your arms were as big as your mouth you'd have won by now!" she shouted out toward @Henry Knight. Thankfully, she didn't hear the comment about jinxing her, or she'd have been significantly more angry with the boy. Comments about her sight she could deal with - you get used to them when you work in Divination. There was some furtive whispering going on between the students, inaudible under the sounds of the incessant grunting of the other tuggers of war. No doubt some kind of conspiracy was being hatched to take them down.

"Come on now, we haven't got all day - give up or start trying!" she jeered back at Henry, trying to rile him up a bit more. The insults were a little mean-spirited, but there was no such thing as a good-natured insult. They were for hurting people. "Move it!"

Gritting his teeth and moving his body ever more backward Gargott pulled at the rope with all of his might and weight put into it. It was paying off, as the Professor team won yet another square. The Keeper couldn't help but chuckle. We're going to win this thing with our fingers in our nose! Content with the inevitable outcome the redheaded rotund man had a smile on his lips as he pulled some more.

Suddenly Gargott's good-hearted spirit vanished like snow in the sun. A student he didn't recognize and looked like any other ordinary boy. Out of nowhere he started calling the part-goblin fat and suggested he should rather lay off on the good things in life. Malcontent with the remark Gargott's upper lip started to tremble and his mighty, orange mustache that adorned it shook uncontrollably. His blue eyes looked over the boy on the other side of the rope. Thinking of the remarks he made this boy could only be of one house. Slytherin. The traditional house had always lured the more competitive minded who'd do anything to win. Boy... Since when is it a shame to have a healthy appetite? Hmmm? Looking at the looks of you, you'd better start to get some meat on your bones. Judging that your team hasn't won a single square yet.

With renewed vigor, Gargott's large hands wrapped around the rope once again and he heaved with all of his might determined to show this boy not to mess with him.

Serena kept pulling and pulling, but it was no use. The professor’s side was just too strong! The Hufflepuff was starting to wonder if this was really a fair fight. The adults were so much older and stronger than her and the rest of the student body. Serena couldn’t see a way for the students to beat them unless the professors let them win. And judging from all of the trash talk that was going on between some of the adults and students, that didn’t seem likely. The only other scenario would be sheer luck. And so far, it didn’t seem like luck was on their side.

Still, Serena didn’t just want to give up! Where was the fun in that? And who knew, maybe the students’ luck would turn around, and they’d be able to start pulling the rope over to their side. So, the twelve-year-old adjusted her stance, ensuring that her feet were planted firmly on the ground. And with all of her might, Serena kept tugging on the rope. They could still win this! But her team needed to start bringing it to their side soon; otherwise, there was no way they’d be able to overtake the professors.

The professors tugged the students forward again but this time, it wasn't as hard as the first round. The professors must be tiring out already, Melissa thought. Even though it has only been a few minutes, her arms were burning already. No matter how hard she pulled the rope back(which was probably not a lot but still), the other team would just pull it back again. Every once in a while, she would be able to pull the rope back just so it could be pulled right back to where it was. Mel honestly really didn't want to bail on her fellow students, but she would always wonder if she was even helping. If she left, would they be better without her or would they be worse? Well, she signed up for this so she should commit to it. Ughh why did I even sign up?she wondered. Focusing on the game again, she pulled with all her strength once more. Like that'll help- She was starting to lose hope, so she didn't care about the game anymore. She just wanted it all to be over.

Marcus took a step back as the rope gave way to their side again. He was not satisfied by this minor progress. How were these students putting up such a fight? This should be over by now!

Perhaps Marcus was too confident in his own ability. He had to remember that it was not just him against a student or two. It was a whole team of him and other professors against a big crowd of students. He had never actually participated in a tug of war contest, but it had seemed simple enough. Just pull the rope better than the other team. Such a simple task, but it was turning into a whole ordeal. Would he break a sweat during this? He certainly didn't want to...

Marcus ignored what was being shouted by the overconfident students on the other side of the rope. He recognized @Henry Knight though, thinking it was interesting he had worked up the courage to shout such words. Marcus had plenty of practice blocking out jeering like this, and he had no desire to partake in it. His focus remained on pulling the rope and planting his feet for leverage. The professor team would come out victorious if he had anything to do with it.

Even with his hefty pull, the professors' team hauled the students forward with infuriating ease. Søren kept trying to remind himself that this was just a game, but his desire to win was burning bright. Sabotaging the opposing team did appeal to his Slytherin senses, but he knew his weakness in spellcasting would hurt the students more than help. He could try to distract them in other ways, but his brain had already tunnelled in on winning by brute strength. He was doing alright in that category, but not many of the students were faring as well as him. One girl even slipped off the rope. If they were going to beat the burly Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff heads, who seemed to be doing a little too good, the students were going to have to try much harder.

Søren could hear a member of Slytherin shouting jeers left and right for every professor and while it was his instinct to join in, the deferential boy kept his lips pressed together as he tried locking the rope around his wrists. Oh, he would definitely need to pay some house elf to clean his shoes now. The loss of the previous round was evident, his shoes scuffed from sliding through the dirt. Hoping this would be the last of the mess on his footwear, he continued pulling.
