Blue jeans and a white shirt wasn't Sabrina's normal attire. Actually, most times she wasn't even caught outside of her school uniform. The skirt, button-up shirt and blazer had become like a second layer of skin to her, and she suited them well. At least, she thought so. The only thing she would change is the skirt. She would definitely be in jeans all of the time if she was able to be.
The ballroom wasn't one of the places she expected to end up when she decided to sneak out past curfew. It was risky, because for the time being it was a large, open space which he could easily get caught in. That didn't stop her from leaning against one of the large, double-paned windows that surrounded the room. Her eyes were trained on the night sky, but her thoughts were elsewhere.
Stress and tension had invaded Sabrina's friendships recently. Or in this case, friendship. Her other relationships with people seemed to be good, except for with that Bloom girl. She didn't know why, but she simply didn't like the girl. Not. One. Bit. She wouldn't bring that into the light anytime soon, though, unless she was forced to. She felt a sigh escape her, and her posture slouched. She couldn't understand her own feelings at this point, and that sucked. It nagged at her, making her feel like she was homesick. She had been avoiding Reid too, and she didn't want to bother her dad - she was sure he was busy with things of his own. She didn't want to become a burden to him.
Turning on her heel, the redhead sauntered over to one of the empty tables around the edge of the room. During times of festivity, they would be covered in white table cloths, and people would be sitting in the surrounding chairs. The only festivities thus far had been the snowball fight, though. She hoped at some point, she would get to see the Ballroom in all of its' glory. She took a seat in one of the chairs after taking her time on pulling it out, and leaned her elbows on the table's surface, cupping her chin in her hands.
Why had things turned out to be so difficult? She was only twelve, she didn't see the need for such feelings to be surfacing, but apparently it was a part of growing up. At least that was what her mother told her when she had gotten her first "crush", Andy. She didn't even know Andy though, she just thought that he had been cute. This time, she thought a whole lot more about the person she was "crushing" on. He was funny, and sweet, and they fit together like two pieces of a puzzle. He made her forget that she wasn't at home, and that was way nicer than anything else she could ask for.

Even with the light, Reid was still a little nervous of patrolling on his own. The hallways were long and dark, lumos was the only spell he truly that could work. He saw lumos maxima in his Book of Spells, but he tended to stay in the boundaries of what Professor Blackburn taught. He didn't change out of his uniform and simply wore everything but his cardigan and robe. Yet he probably should have kept his cardigan, it was a little chilly during the nights sometimes and his shirt and tie didn't do much to help. But instead of his dress shoes, he wore his pair of ratty and worn canvas shoes.
He didn't want to alert students of his presence by the clacking of his annoying dress shoes. As he got closer to the ballroom, he noticed that the door seemed to be just slightly ajar. "What the ..." he softly spoke. The Derby native stepped closer, opening the slightly ajar door to squeeze past it. He squinted slightly, trying to make out anyone in the darkness. Luckily, the light of the moon through the window panes seemed to help ever so slightly.
Just barely, he caught the figure of a person at one of the tables. Their back was turned towards him, so he was a little frightened by how motionless they seemed at first. Chills ran up his spine and his imagination ran wild, his heart slammed in his chest almost so painfully that he was sure he was about to have a heart attack. It was a ghost, he was sure of it. Now it was going to turn around and - wait. For some reason, instead of backing off, Reid had inched himself closer and closer to the figure. But it slowly became familiar the more that lumos illuminated.
"S-Sabby?" he stuttered, slowly moving closer. It was her, the boy sucked in his breath in a slight bit of frustration from getting himself so worked up for no reason. His posture relaxed and his white knuckled grip on his wand relaxed. A frown sat on the boy's face as he walked up to the side of the table. It was so late for her to be out here, plus she could have gotten hurt. Or worse. " ... What are you doing out here?" He also wanted to ask where she had been, he hadn't seen her since their time at the fireplace - which seemed to end at odd notes. Reid's assumption was that she was simply too busy with her classes and everything, perhaps the Gryffindor Quidditch team tryouts too.

At the sound of someone calling her name, her body jolted forward. She turned around sharply, her eyes narrowed into slits as she looked for whoever had called her name. The only person there was slightly shadowed, but even by his silhouette Sabrina would have been able to tell that the person who had caught her was Reid. She could point him out in the midst of a large crowd without failure. He was, after all, her best friend. She had grown up being able to recognize him from anywhere. A small smile crept across her face.
"Reid.. I guess it's a good thing you were the one to catch me, hey?" She asked, awkwardly chuckling afterwards. She silently cursed herself for acting awkward with him, but he had caught her at a bad time. She flushed a pink colour, and turned back around in her seat, burying her face in her hands. She could probably die of embarrassment, but unfortunately that was not an option.
" ... What are you doing out here?"
How was she supposed to answer that? She mulled her mind through for thoughts that should just come naturally to her. However, that was not the case. "I.." She trailed off, readjusting her position so her back was now up against the back of her chair, rather than leaning forward over the table. She couldn't think, and that was a red flag in her case. "I was just thinking about things," She finally settled on saying, nodding her head a few times as though she were confirming the thought to herself. "It's been hard lately."
Hopefully, he would be one to understand. She doubted he would out her to anyone for being out past curfew. She sighed, and looked over her shoulder, her red hair falling in front of her face moments after. Annoyed, she shoved it back behind her ear. "Are you going to write me detention now, Kovacs?" She asked, half-teasing. Her tone made her come off as though she were completely joking, though.

Normally his tone of voice would be a little more stern, but it quickly softened a few seconds after. He found it hard to be strict around Sabrina, if anything he'd break his character so fast. The young boy kept the light out, chuckling slightly as he navigated himself on the other side of the table. "I might or I might not, Hurst. I hope this seat isn't taken." he lightly teased. The twelve year old pulled the seat from the table, lifting it slightly so it wouldn't screech against the floor.
He sat himself down from across the way and lightly flicked his wand to let the spell fade. The brightness diminished and the natural light from the moon was all that was really left. He didn't want anyone else to catch the Head Boy just chatting with another student out of curfew. "It's dangerous to be out so late, Sabby. Something could happen to you." His voice was a little more serious this time around, mainly for the fact that he worried for her.
The thought of her ever getting hurt made him a little anxious to say the least, he'd hate to see her in the hospital. Reid leaned an elbow against the table, leaning his chin in his hand as he stared at the girl across the way. "What's wrong, Sab? You said it's been hard." he timidly asked. His brow shot up as the boy's posture suddenly straightened out. His brows furrowed and a bit of anger flashed across his forest green hues at the sudden conclusion. "Is someone bullying you?"

"I might or I might not, Hurst. I hope this seat isn't taken."
Sabrina grinned widely, and she shrugged her shoulders a little bit as she watched him take a seat. "Nah, only my date for the night is sitting there tonight, but I'm sure you'll be gone before he's here." She joked. It was a long-shot that Sabrina would ever even allow herself to hold hands with someone she hadn't known for a while, let alone go on a date. Maybe one day, but that day definitely wouldn't be happening anytime soon. Not in her foreseeable future, at least. She was also glad that Reid wasn't going to report her - thankfully he hadn't taken her absence from him as a negative thing. They were still best friends, no matter what. That was their promise.
"It's dangerous to be out so late, Sabby. Something could happen to you."
Sabrina laughed a little bit, lifting her arms up to gesture around the room, "What, are these tables and chairs going to stampede towards me?" She asked rhetorically. She doubted that anything dangerous would venture to Hogwarts. There just wasn't any need for it, so why should they have to worry about getting potentially attacked? She knew that she didn't worry, at least.
"What's wrong, Sab? You said it's been hard. Is someone bullying you?"
Sabrina instantly shook her head, "No," She phrased, keeping her answer short and simple for the time being while she debated her options in her head. Should she let everything going on in her head out? Probably not, it could soil their friendship. That wasn't something she wanted. In fact, it was probably one of the last things she should want. Yet, she wanted to tell him anyways. She wouldn't though, not until she had to. "It's nothing you have to worry about."

She wasn't going to tell him? The boy made a 'hmph' sound and leaned down to rest his chin against the table, causing him to slouch forward. He looked at her with doubt written all over his features. Should he pry or should he just leave it be? On one hand, he wanted to just let it go and not bother her with the discomfort. But on another hand, he wanted to really know what was bothering her this whole time. It was odd to get such short answers from his friend that it genuinely concerned him. Was it that bad that even she couldn't tell him? What if it was because of him?
If she wasn't comfortable telling him, maybe that was why? He went through a quick tab check on what he did in the last few days, nothing had to do with it except the their time in the small hall. Was it that? "Sab." He sat up again and leaned his elbows once more against the table. No, he wanted to know. What if it was serious? What if someone had hurt her this whole time? The boy's brows crinkled and his lips pursed in slight frustration. "Can you please, please tell me Sabrina?" he asked, pleading a little. The boy even leaned forward slightly with his hands pressed together as if he was begging her. "Is it something I did?"
"Trouble usually finds me."

It was hard for Sabrina not to laugh at the boy. He really wanted to know - but she really did not want to let him in on it. She shook her head as he asked again for her to tell him. She really didn't think it could be a good idea. After hearing that Bloom had said that she liked Reid to find out that he had rejected her, and now it was awkward between them, she was a little.. afraid to let it slip. She promised that no matter what that she would be his best friend. And would best friends really end up having a crush on each other? Probably not.
"It's nothing, Reid," She began, but she was cut off by him asking if it was him that had done something. She actually tilted her head from side to side as she tossed the idea around in her mind. In a way, he had done something. He had captured her attention in ways she didn't think she would ever experience, and that was enough. She could just end their friendship there and be done with it, but obviously she wasn't going to leave that in her options. She never, ever backed out on promises.
"Well.." She trailed off, her eyes trailing back to the window she had been standing by before Reid came in. "In a way, yeah." She admitted, but she looked right back to him afterwards. "But seriously, don't worry about it! It's not your problem, it's mine."

Did he have to switch his tactics? The boy sighed and pulled back to press himself against the chair's embrace, still looking like the world's biggest skeptic. His brow shot up at her confirming his beliefs though, causing his blood to ran a little colder than usual. "Uh ..." Was he expecting that answer? Yes and no. But also he didn't know how to exactly respond, Sabrina was kind of unpredictable to him like that. He liked it, but at the same time it was a little frustrating when he couldn't understand what she meant.
Maybe he really shouldn't push it? What if she got mad at him? Reid has never really pushed Sabrina before, unless he wanted her to share her fries or something. Plus he liked her too much to get her mad, of all the people, not her. He dipped his head a little and sucked in his breath, holding it before letting it out. What should he say? "Sabby, I'm not gonna get mad with whatever you say. Besides, you said it was a problem ..."
His nervous hand came up to brush through his hair before letting it sit on his lap. This was the last time he was going to pry, if she pushed away the idea, he would stop. The young boy sucked in his breath, mustering up the courage to say the rest. "B-besides, if it's your problem then it's my problem too." That's right! It was his too, right? They grew up together, so that meant he was going to stick with her through thick and thin. He sat up straight, the slouch now a confident posture as his hands rested on the surface of the table. "If I can fix it, I'll fix it."

If her face was as red as her hair, the girl wouldn't be surprised. She crossed her arms over her chest with a huff, and she scuffed her toe against the ground, lightly kicking it and hitting his shin. He hasn't ever really pushed her on a matter like this as far as she could remember. She was at a loss either way. If she didn't explain it to him now, he would be disappointed that something was bothering her and he had no way to fix it. If she did explain it, she could possibly ruin their friendship. Which would be worse? Probably the disappointment.
"B-besides, if it's your problem then it's my problem too. If I can fix it, I'll fix it."
A laugh came from the redheaded girl now, and she shook her head as she looked back in front of her. Yet, she avoided his gaze, her eyes trained on the table's surface instead, where his hands were. "You can't fix it, Reid," She stated, even though she was sure he would be if he wanted to. But there wasn't a chance in the world that he would even consider those feelings, right? And so why should she? She pushed her chair out, and stood up, walking away from the table.
She just needed to calm her heart rate down, and pacing seemed to be the best option for her at the moment. Clearly, she was getting too worked up over whatever this was supposed to be. But now Reid thought that he had done something terribly wrong probably, and her lip quivered. One way or another, she was sure it would have to come out. She glanced back at the boy she had known for most of her life, and a sigh of disappointment came out of her. She wished there just was another way to make this night not end off on a bad note. What if he ended up the one avoiding her at the end of it?

You Fit Me Better Than My Favourite Sweater
It was complicated, this whole thing. He didn't understand it all to well and it made him wonder if he would ever get through to her. His heart sank a little when she said that, even more so when she began walking away. For some reason, it hurt a little more than usual. The distance felt too large and he was beginning to despise it the more seconds ticked on. His hand came up to brush his head, looking a little dejected as his gaze wandered to the corner of his eye. There was a clamminess to his hands, causing him to slightly tap his foot against the table.
Words came empty to him, it was so hard. He looked up to catch her gaze, his foot still tapping as his nerves took full grip. "Sabrina." Sabrina what? What else was he supposed to say? Merlin's beard he was sure he was about to have a heart attack from how fast his heart was beating. But couldn't just sit there, it felt wrong to just sit there and watch his friend just go. If this night ended the way it did, in the bad endings of every story he's heard, then he didn't know where they would stand after this. Reid shot up from chair, causing it to screech and echo through the ballroom.
"Wait, wait ... one second, please?" A red faced Hufflepuff boy stormed after the girl, wand forgotten and a mouth full of words that he didn't exactly go well together. Canvas shoes squeaked slightly against the floor and his tie took a seat on his shoulder from the speed. His swinging hand almost came up to grab hers if she'd let him, but he quickly refrained as he got closer. "Sabrina, look I -" One last time, one last round till he gave up the fight and waved the white flag.
"I don't know what I did and I-I really don't know if I can fix it now, but I want to try. Back at the lake, I promised that we'd never stop being friends and ..." His voice cracked every so often from how high-strung his emotions got him, man this sucked. It was so embarrassing to be like this. His face was turning even more red by the moment and he tried not to choke on his words.
His normally static hands moved in gestures, trying to find some way for her to understand his babbling. "I don't want to lose you as a friend, especially not now. O-or ever ... too. You freakin' pinky promised you jerk." There was some humor to soothe the bruise, it was enough. His pained smile was slightly visible in the light, maybe not so much with how dark it seemed. But even without seeing his expression, maybe she'd be able to get it.
