Potions & Friends
It was Haley's first lesson in Potions and already she made a bad impression. She was lost again - "Can it be that damn hard?" Haley cursed softly as she almost ran down the corridor to the classroom. When she finally arrived she took a few more breaths to keep from being out of breath. She tried to open the door as quietly as possible and not to draw attention.
Haley sat down on an empty seat in the back row next to an other girl and took out her potions book. She felt bad for beeing late but tried to focus during class but it wasn't that easy.
She tried to fill in the missing gaps, but she couldn't get it right. Great, that means a few extra hours in the library today, Haley was annoyed inside. She gave up and puffed up quietly in desperation.
For the first time she looked over at her table partner. She could tell by the green colors that the girl was from Slytherin. Great, Haley thought to herself, but she quickly repressed this negative thought. She didn't want to be prejudiced against her, that wouldn't be fair.
Haley looked at her briefly and smiled at her. She whispered very quietly "Hi, I'm Haley" and devoted her attention back to teaching.

Great Misfortune fell on Hildegard on that day ! She had to attempt the Potion class. The slytherin feared a lots of things but nothing among them could compare to her fear of potions, the potion accident that got her her limping walking style also got her traumatized with the activity of the potion maker.
As she followed the class she was scared of every moves she made with her potion.
" What if it explode ? Or it fall on me ? Maybe I will lose something else yet again ?!" She thought.
She was trembling and hesitant on every and each one of her moves, At some point she gave up with tears almost pending on her eyes. At that moment her attention changed it's aim.
There was a Gryffindor girl that was whispering her introduction to her, Hildegard took her robe's sleeve to clear up her eyes from the tears which almost came out.
"What does she want ? I hope she is not going to mock me or something... She said she was Haley right ? I guess I have to introduce myself too. She's from Gryffindor they are not mean generally right ? Oh I like her hair... I wish i had hair like hers" She quickly thought before answering.
-H...Hello hum nice to meet you my name is Hildegard, are you succeeding to understand what need to be done ? I...think I can't.
Hildegard froze while waiting her reply, she was scared that that girl might be a bully or something like that.

Haley looked into Hildegard's uninsured face, "If I hadn't been too stupid again and got lost on the way here, I'm sure I would know what to do" Haley laughed quietly. "Can you tell me which side you started on? I'm sure I'm going to get myself in somehow."
"Or wait, I have another idea," Haley pulled a piece of parchment out of her pocket and began to write a small note inconspicuously. A few rows in front of her she recognized a friend of her and, at a moment when the professor turned back to the blackboard, threw a crumpled piece of paper at her head. The girl turned her head angrily, but when she saw Haley smiling at her innocently and making her shoulder shrug, she too had to smile.
Haley noticed that the girl's look was very sad and she was not sure, but in a short moment it seemed as if she had wiped away a tear. Haley hesitated briefly "Um..hey..is everything okay?" she asked carefully.
While waiting for an answer, she wasn't sure if she would get one but that wouldn't be too bad for Haley, she knew that sometimes there were situations where you just didn't want to talk about it, she kept trying to follow the lessons.
She was very curious to see if they would start brewing a potion today, but she was afraid that they would have to write an essay on it before they could go into practice. They talked in today's class about the Forgetfulness potion and Haley had already read a lot about this potion. When the professor asked a question, her hand strapped up and she answered it correctly. She was proud and hoped she could at least make up for her bad impression.

Thank goodness ! She look like a nice person ! She is even worried about my state of mind !" Hildegard thought while being relieved.
-I'm... I'm okay don't worry ! I am just scared about making this potion ! I might fail it ! It could explode or warm me ! I'm scared about making it actually that's all ! I... I don't think I can be of any help to you ! I am so sorry ! She replied with as less noice as possible.
Hildegard tried yet again to make her potion but was still frozen by the idea of failing, so she stopped and looked at her classmate.

"Shh, shh, hey..hey listen to me" Haley smiled encouragingly to her and said "don't worry, we'll do it together and I'm happy to help you or do the things you just don't feel like doing yet. How does that sound to you"? Haley saw the panic in her eyes and it hurt her to see her like that. Why was she so panicked about it, Haley asked herself.
"Don't worry, we'll manage it and I'm sure we'll make it through the year," Haley winked at her. Haley tried to encourage her but wasn't sure if her words would bear fruit.
"How about we meet this afternoon or the days in the library? Then we can work through today's stuff together and we'll be well prepared to make the potion?"
Haley hoped that Hildegard felt a little better, she saw the sadness on her face and how tears were forming again in her eyes. She didn't know what she was going through, but she was incredibly sorry that she felt that way.
Haley nodded slightly in the direction of the blackboard and turned forward again to continue to follow the lessons. She didn't want to attract more negative attention by interrupting the class with her conversations and hoped that no one had heard her conversation.

The way Haley handled Hildegard's desperation was good, as after hearing the gryffindor the slytherin managed to calm down.
She was not scared of her anymore, in fact she was so nice that Hildegard wanted to become her friend.
"I am sorry ! Yes you are right ! Hum... Are you sure you want us to work together ? I mean I'm not that smart you know..."
She took one of the ingredient needed for the potion as indicated on her parchment but as she was about to put it inside her potion she realized it was actually a rat's tail and panicked, letting it fall on the ground.
-Hiiiiii!!!
After breathing heavily for a few second she said :
-I...I'm sorry ! I'm scared of rats...
-Hum can we work together on this please Haley ? She asked.
Hildegard took her seat and moved it to get closer to the nice Gryffindor, then took her cauldron with lots of care and putted it in front of her seat all that while walking with a limp.
She then smiled to Haley, a smile melting happiness and unconfort.
-Oh by the way, how is it to be in Gryffindor ? Are they nice ? I am kind of scared of some Slytherin to be honnest...

Haley had to laugh when Hildegard was scared by the rat tail, she still had to get used to many things, Haley thought. But that wouldn't be too bad, many students have the same problem in their first year.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you're smart. You just have to dig in a bit and get used to it. I'm sure you can do it!"
Haley picked up the rat's tail, stirred once in the opposite direction before throwing it into the potion and then stirred five times clockwise.
Haley noticed that Hildegard was limping but she didn't want to ask about it - at least not now. Later she knew that her curiosity would win, but Haley didn't want to be rude.
"It's great in Gryffindor" a pleasant warmth spread into Haley's chest when she answered the question "I'm sure you have nothing to be afraid of, maybe just a little bit of caution" Haley winked at her "After a few weeks you will have settled in better and all this will be much easier for you" Haley kept trying to encourage Hildegard, she knew how difficult it can be and could well imagine that in the beginning for a shy girl it could be very hard in Slytherin.
Haley briefly thought back to the moment when the sorting hat looked back and forth between Slytherin and Gryffindor, and then chose Gryffindor after all. She was still happy about it, but still curious what it had been like for her in Slytherin.
"If you'd like to meet in the library tonight and go over the material from today I'm up to, maybe you can internalize it better?" Offert Haley to her.

-Hum yea but we need to be back to our dorms before 10pm because it is forbidden to be outside of our common rooms before that time...also because it's scary to stay in such a place so late in the night... She replied to Haley while smiling at her.
Hildegard manipulated the ingredients putting them in the potion with care while still trying to follow up the class.
-So we're doing it tonight it's fine with you ? The young Slytherin asked.
-I heard that group studies is very helpful to get good grades, maybe if we can find other peoples it will be even better ! Hildegard continued.
"Plus if there is many people it will be less scary..." The apprentice witch thought.
As she said that she was wondering who she would invite, Aurora, Katie both ? Or maybe some other people ? Either way she would at least be with Haley so she won't be alone. After a few second she realized that she will have to leave the library a bit earlier since she will take more time to go back to her dorm.

Haley had to smile a little when Hildegard mentioned that it was forbidden to be outside the dormitory after 10 pm. You just must not get caught, Haley thought and had to grin.
"Oh, the library is not that scary" Haley winked at her. On the contrary, Haley found this place wonderful.
"Is it suitable for you at about 06:30 pm?" she asked Hildegard, in answer to the question if she was okay with it tonight.
"And of course, if there is someone else who wants to learn with us, they can join us." Haley found it generally more pleasant to learn in a larger group, so different people could explain and get explained without everything getting stuck on one person and you could concentrate alone for five minutes without anybody interrupting you.
"Have you thought about someone special? Do you know someone who needs a little help or can help with potions?" Haley asked curiously.
She would also think again and ask her friends, maybe there was someone who would like to join. But she could think about that later.
She looked briefly at the clock and noticed that the class would be over soon. In a free moment she already packed away the things she wouldn't need anyway to not waste too much time and then scurried off to the next class. She was still afraid to get lost and be late for class again.

Not that scary... Hildegard was not much convinced,
"Books can definitely be scary" She thought.
After all there was all kinds of books in the wizarding world ! The Ferocious Monster Book of Monsters. the cursed books, or black magic books ! Even if she had very low chance to find them in the library of Hogwarts, except perhaps the Ferocious Monster Book of Monster, the library was quite huge so they might find some dangerous books.
-Yes it's good to me Haley, I don't know yet i will decide and ask. Hildegard replied calmly.
As she saw Haley pack her stuff she mimicked her, the girl did not want to spend more time in this cursed class.
-Let's meet back in the library entrance at 6:30pm then okay ? She said with a smile.
"Come on ! it's just a library ! A place full of books ! There is nothing to be scared about !" She said to herself repeatedly while waiting for the class to be over.
When the class was over she stood up, turned to Haley and told her with a smile.
