[font=Monotype Corsiva]Today was the day that Enzo’s parents had invited what he assumed to be another prestigious pureblood family to their home for dinner. Why? Because they wanted Enzo to meet his date for the upcoming autumn ball. He was quite angry because first of all they were forcing him to go that stupid dance and on top of that they wouldn’t even let him choose who he was taking. He knew absolutely nothing about the girl who he was escorting and honestly wanted it to stay that way because she was probably just a typical little rich brat. But he had given up on trying to convince his parents otherwise and had to accept that he would be going. He knew would have to be on his best behaviour tonight or he’d never hear the end of it. If he did something ‘wrong’ or embarrassed his parents during this dinner, they would be absolutely furious since they (mainly his mother) cared a lot about their social status within in pureblood community.

Enzo was woken up by the sound of his mother yelling out his name. He had apparently slept in far too late for her liking since she had already wanted him to get prepared for tonight. They only had a few more things to fix up around their house since it was already sparkling clean and there wasn’t a spot of dust in sight. Everything from the floor to the ceiling was in tip top shape and ready to host.

To Enzo the day felt like it was inching by, at the slowest pace possible. As the clock finally struck 5 o’clock it marked an hour until their guests were supposed to arrive. Enzo was dressed in a simple white collared button up shirt and a dark grey crew neck sweater on top with a pair of black jeans. It wasn’t anything too extravagant in the least but he did look very polished.

For the final few moments he had to himself he had grabbed a book and slipped away from his parents and went to the downstairs parlour and sat down in one of the velvet seats and began to read. But quicker than he anticipated he was interrupted by a sound.

Ding dong

The door bell had rung meaning that the family had arrived. He stood up with a small groan then shut his book and promptly put it away and sulked slightly as he went towards the foyer and stood beside his parents to greet the guests.
“Bonsoir and welcome“
His mother spoke up with a cordial smile as they opened the door then she shot a look over at Enzo to try and urge him to say something.
Enzo had a blank expression and was silent for a few more moments before forcing himself to speak, but nevertheless had a monotone voice when he said “Good evening”

When Lana's parents had broke the news to her, she had no choice but to roll her eyes. The decision they made without her permission didn't shock her in the slightest, as her say hardly mattered in any situation when forming relationships. It had just been the fact that she'd never met the boy before that made her skin crawl; let alone going to an entire ball with them.

The chances of Lana taking a liking in this boy was slim, though she found arguing with her parents got her absolutely nowhere. They were convinced this was exactly what she needed to "mature into a woman" as they called it. Bloody stupid idea to her.

She dressed in silence, examing herself in the mirror as she slipped on a black dress. She looked good; good enough for a first impression anyway. She was charming, so there was no need to worry about the family not liking her, nor was there any reason to be nervous. It would go exactly as she rehearsed, a simple introduction and then they'd leave.

Her pace quickened as she was called down for breakfast, leading to an unfortunately awkward family meal. They knew she wasn't happy with them, nor did they care to be frank. Once their minds were made, there was no changing it no matter how much pleading she put in.
Before she knew it they were off to the Delcroix's, Lana waiting in the backseat impatiently. She watched the trees pass her car window, the sky a faint light blue. She couldn't help but bite her lip, the lipstick smudging off her lips. She opened her small compact mirror and applied more, staring at her reflection unintentionally. A habit, almost.

There was no way this boy wouldn't like her, she thought. She was gorgeous, what was there not to like? He'd been lucky their families were even friends in the first place.
The car pulled to a stop, causing Lana to groan with dread. Her mother turned around furiously, indicating that Lana best shut up before she did it for her.

She stepped out of the vehicle, her eyes gazing over the large house. She smiled- At least they had money.. She shook her head at this thought, realizing she was nothing more than a power-hungry brat. She proceeded to walk up the steps with her parents, standing politely beside them as they rang the doorbell.
What awaited her next, Lana hadn't the slightest idea. She watched her mother kiss the other woman on the cheek, her father shaking hands with the man. Their son looked unamused, almost as if he didn't like being here as much as her. Despite the urge to make a distasteful frown, she smiled and held out her hand to the boy in hopes he would take it.
"Lana, a pleasure."

Enzo stared at the girl for a moment. Just as he suspected. It was a little pretty rich pureblood girl. He hoped to god that she wasn't as shallow as the lot of them normally are but didn't put his expectations too high at all. His whole mindset was predetermined before the girl even stepped into his house. But for all he knew this girl could surprise him. But those thoughts quickly vanished from his mind as quickly as they came. Who was he kidding? Why would this one be any different?
He then held in a large scoff as she held out her hand. A pleasure? Yeah right. Contradicting his thoughts he reached out his hand and in a gentlemanly fashion and took hers but didn't even try to reciprocate a smile while saying "Enzo and the pleasure is all mine".
Madeline, Enzo's mother had an approving smile plastered across her face as they shook hands then she turned to Lana's mother and exclaimed happily “What a darling little girl you have“.
Enzo quickly released her hand at this, feeling as if his eyes were about to roll to the back of his head.

After their little introduction, his parents started ushering the Monet family into the parlour while their house elf was finishing up the dinner. The lace curtains that lined the windows were halfway drawn so that the last remaining light from the sunset could seep into the room. All the seats matched elegantly and each of them had at least one embroidered cushion decorating it. Placed in the center of the seating arrangement was a small wooden table that had a bouquet of flowers as well as a few biscuits situated on a delicate porcelain china plate for the guests to snack on.

Madeline had quietly given Enzo a reminder through gritted teeth in french to offer the family some drinks and then to go and fetch it for them. He nodded and inhaled softly, this was only the beginning. Then he turned and asked politely "Can I get someone anything to drink?"

Monet and Delcroix family

Despite her hopes for this being a pleasant evening, she was aware it'd be anything but. Something about Enzo gave her a chill, though she couldn't quite pin the feeling just yet.

After they introduced themselves, she noticed the instant drop of his hand once his mother had looked away. So this is how it was going to be.. She thought blatantly, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. Of course he was going to put on a show in front of his parents, leaving her to wonder how he would act with them out of the room.

As his mother complimented her, she gave a smile despite it being completely unimportant to her. Yet she still acted as if she were flattered, nodding to her mother to signal she'd made a good impression.
That was really what this was about, making a good impression. She knew her parents knew better than anyone that pure-blooded families were slowly dying out, therefore forcing their only daughter to try and help preserve such bloodlines.
It was disgusting really, having to be forced into something like that. When she pictured arrangements, she envisioned historical times when ladies were sent off to marry princes, not defenseless wizards and witches.

Regardless, she followed her parents through the house, stopping in what looked to be a sitting room. She glanced at the table, her eyes fixated on the elegant flowers that were placed in the center. She and her family took a seat, leaving Lana to wait for further instruction.

She attempted to sneak a glance of Enzo again, though quickly looked away right after. He asked them if they'd be interested in drinks, causing Lana to shake her head in response. Her mother, on the other hand, raised a delicate hand. "White wine, if you would, please."

Lana winced, the second hand embarrassment radiating from her mother. Although Lana was entitled, she wasn't so much as to ask a child to pour her white wine.
Still, she kept quiet, observing the scene before her.

[font=Monotype Corsiva]"Of course, right away"
Enzo replied then gave a polite nod but looked over at his mother almost as if he was asking with his eyes where the wine was to which she gave a tiny dainty gesture to the back of the room. He promptly turned around and walked to the opposite side of the parlour to where he found a trolly of liquor. He reached his hand out and gently ran his fingertips across the labels of the bottles that were displayed in front of him, searching for the white wine. Once he found it he pulled out a glass then placed it on the top of the trolly and pried open the bottle cap and slowly started to pour it in until the glass was filled just a little over halfway. Then he carefully picked it up and while walking back he discreetly tried to catch another glimpse of the girl and then put on a small half smile while giving the wine to her mother. Although he smiled, his eyes were pretty much blank. But better blank than god forbid showing what he was actually feeling.

He then moved to a seat nearby and sat down with his gaze resting in his lap as he listened to his parents try to start some small talk with the girl's parents.
Enzo knew that immediately after their superficial conversation will start to die down, his mother will most likely attempt to get the children alone together. It was really only a matter of time until he would have to divulge in a one on one conversation with the Monet girl.
As he thought about how the next couple of hours will enfold, he turned his head slightly and averted his gaze to the girl and observed her for a few moments and didn't even make an effort to be subtle like last time, then suddenly found himself wondering about her.

But that didn't last long

Like clockwork, exactly as he predicted, his mother stood up causing him to quickly look away while she encouraged the other adults to follow her into the dining room to finish up their drinks there and 'let the children talk' and they will be called upon once dinner is ready and served. With a few sarcastic comments ready to roll off his tongue at any moment, he did his best to stay perfectly still and quiet neither acknowledging her statement nor reacting to it.

Merci Maman, this is precisely what we want...

She watched her mother receive the drink, nodding silently to the boy as a thank you. Lana grimaced slightly, though she quickly adjusted her expression before anyone could notice. Oh, the world of hurt she'd be in if her mother caught her smile fall for even a second.
She remained innocent looking for the rest of the conversation, or at least until the adults decided to let the visibly distressed children spend time together alone.

She first wore a look of concern, as if her eyes pleaded to her mother that they should leave in an instant. Her parents instead ignored her and followed the Delacroix's into a different room, leaving an awkward sort of ambiance to hang in the air.

Lana's face immediately fell upon the adult's exit, her eyes searching for a sign of emotion in the boy's face. She knew this wouldn't end well, though she couldn't risk causing a scene now. Instead, she just looked at him, awaiting a response.

Though the longer she waited, the more she grew impatient. She cut her eyes slightly, shifting her position to cross her legs. "I know you aren't particularly thrilled to have me here, though the least you could do is speak." She spat in a whisper, finding his pettiness to be more than annoying.

She wanted to walk out, to go wait in the car until this dreaded meeting was over. Though alas, she remained in front of him, the mutual hatred they felt filling the room.

[font=Monotype Corsiva]Enzo's eyes lingered on the exit, watching as the adults disappeared into the hallway. With his lips pursed he inhaled deeply not caring that there was an awkward silence. If it were up to him it probably would have stayed like that for much longer, but now that the girl had taken the liberty upon herself to speak there was going to be anything but silence.
Enzo slowly turned his head in her direction and had a scornful expression spread across his face.
He waited until the last possible second to reply: until she'd probably even think he was about to ignore her before finally muttering "The first proper sentence you have spoken to me and you're already being downright childish"

He sighed and shook his ever so slightly then leaned further back into his seat and then continued in a sarcastic tone.
"Speak? I really have nothing to say to you, unless you want me to follow in the lead of my mother and make some small talk? Perhaps you'd like me to ask what your favourite colour is? Or what your hobbies are?"
He rolled his eyes.
Since his parents were not present he did not feel the need to keep up his 'gentlemanly' appearance. anymore. He had held his tongue for far too long that day and was ready to explode in frustration.

”And anyway it’s not like you want to be here either” He added while still glowering at her.
He didn't have the patience for this.

She smiled amusingly at him, his off put anger a joy to her. His sarcasm was blatantly evident, showing the true distaste he had for her. He'd spoken to her for a matter of five minutes and he'd already made his assumptions. Oh well, it wasn't like he was wrong. She truly was a bratty person, though she still thought it was funny on how quick he seemed to hate her.

"I do enjoy the enjoy the color violet, now that you bring it up." She said with a smirk, her once annoyed eyes now lively. If she was going to be forced to be here, the least she could do was have a little fun.
Or, of course, she could choose to befriend him and make this easier on both of them, though what was the point really? Their relationship wouldn't last long after the dance, so what did she have to lose?

Nothing, absolutely nothing to lose.

"While that may be true- Would you rather sit in silence the entire time?" She asked mockingly, her inquiry an attempt to test his patience. How far could she go without him snapping? It couldn't be much more, telling by the disdain he seemed to hold in his eyes as he stared at her.

It was only a matter of time.

[font=Monotype Corsiva]Violet? Seriously? She was clearly enjoying the fact that he was getting irritated by her. She was purposely egging him on and he knew it. He decided that he needed to try and not let her antics get to him, or at least not let it show that it did, because if it showed she'd be getting exactly what she wanted and he couldn't have that. Once coming to the conclusion that that would be the best option he dropped the aggravated facial expression and went back to the blank look that he had plastered on before, in front of his parents. It was easy for him to switch to the look since it was pretty much like a second nature to him.

"Yes. Yes actually that would be lovely"
He retorted dryly. Although he did ask for it, it would be quite weird for them to just sit in silence, staring at the walls so he made up his mind to go back to their parents.
"Hm did you hear that? I think dinner is ready"
He hissed sarcastically while starting to stand up. Even though no one had really called them he didn't fancy staying in there just the two of them any longer, he'd rather sit quietly and let his parents talk while he just zoned out.
"Ok Cherie, let me tell you how this is going to work. We're going to go to dinner and engage in whatever type of crap our parents want and keep our mouths shut so that we can wrap this up early and you can be on your merry way. Sound good?"
He grumbled sternly and without waiting for an answer started making his way to the exit of the parlour.
