Greetings whomever gets assigned this letter,

We were instructed to write in English as we have no idea if anyone can speak the other languages that we can, and this seems to be more universal.

My name is Angélique Colette de Clairmont, but my friends call me Angel for short. I am a second-year student at Beauxbatons and looking to get to know someone from Durmstrang before our mutual arrival to Hogwarts. I am a broom racer currently with a nimbus 1700, I love adventure, and I enjoy learning new languages as I am currently working on learning Mermish.

Since I have never done this before I do not know what else to put in here. I look forward to learning more about you and your school.

Respectfully,
Angélique de Clairmont

Salutations to you Miss Clairmont,

Although my first language is not English, I do know of the language and will make an attempt to communicate as precisely as possible with you throughout our letters so excuse me if I struggle with writing to you.

My name is Milosh Ognjen Rehnquist, I also have a preferred shortened name which is Milo. Easier on the tongue as well as it isn't so formal which makes for nicer conversation. I attend Durmstrang as a Fourth Year and have few close friends from Durmstrang only so reaching out to Beauxbaton and Hogwarts students will be quite different for me. I do dueling as I never took to a broomstick as a young child but Quidditch and broom racing do interest me, watching it of course.

It was a pleasure to speak, or well write to you and I hope this letter reaches you quickly and safely so you can respond soon.

Truthfully,

Milosh Rehnquist

Oh, you have no idea how delighted I am to actually get a reply. I worried for a moment that no one would be interested. English is also not my first language French, Italian, and then English for now. I love the art of language, and if you have the patience, I would love to start to learn how to communicate with you in your mother tongue.

I tried duelling before broom racing was announced, and it just didn’t seem to be right for me. That’s okay, though; I like you, enjoy watching the other sporting events and cheering on my friends. Maybe someday I can cheer you on to as I hope this friendship flourishes. I have a love of adventure, and every time I get on a broom, it’s like I am truly free to fly through the skies like the birds. When I am older and graduated, I hope to travel the world and learn about the different cultures. Sometimes, while I love my home and my country, I feel that we are a little too closed off to the knowledge of other cultures sometimes. My father says that we like to observe without immersing, and I would like to change that, at least for myself.

Do you have any idea what you would like to do after you graduate? Also, I’m sure you saw it already, but I’ve included a photo of myself. I figured it would be nice to put a face to a name.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

~Angel

Angel,

I see to it that my letter arrived well? I am excited to hear back from you so soon! Since you attend Beauxbatons I assumed English wasn't your first language. Do they require you to learn English there like Durmstrang does? French intrigues me but it may be difficult for my understanding although I do agree that learning about new cultures is quite fun and eye-opening. My mother tongue is Russian which I have been told by foreigners is very hard to learn much less understand.

It is refreshing hearing you describe how you feel on a broom. I can't say I feel like that with dueling but I have a deep connection to my wand and learning spells and practicing them outside of class where I don't get in trouble is nice for me. It can also help with self-defense, not that I'd ever harm anyone on purpose but the more you know the safer off you'll be. I have not travelled very much myself but I would love to explore the world some more. After graduation, I'm not sure I try not to plan to far ahead in the future because things are always changing, but I want to help out in someway.

You talk about your family a lot, are you close with them?

Until next time we speak, I shall await your response.

- Milo

P.S You look beautiful in your photo, it is only fair that I return the gesture and send one of myself no? And no I'm not grumpy, I just don't smile in photos a lot

Your letters arrive quite well, yes I hope mine makes the trip favorably, but I assume as much since my photograph remained intact. I must also say that you are also quite handsome! Leave it to me to put the smile on your face that you lack in your photos if we ever get the chance to meet in person.

Learning languages are most definitely pushed because we need to communicate with more than just the people within our country to be successful. So it makes sense to me that they would push it. Plus, how else would we be able to have these rendezvous with the other schools? Speaking of, will you be going to Hogwarts with your school in October?

I am very close with my father and mother; I am an only child. My father is an Archivist, Book Restorer, and Translator at The Bibliothèque Nationale de France. My mother is a homemaker who takes care of the home and throws dinner parties for my father’s colleagues. When I am not exploring our land, I am usually studying languages in my father’s study. I am currently in the process of learning Mermish, so I think I am up to the challenge of someday learning Russian; besides, I bet I’ll have a mighty fine teacher.

How are you with your family? I also understand what you mean about planning for the future, I have a small idea of how I would like to contribute, but I’d like to see where life takes me before I set anything at all in stone.

I look forward to your response; I am finding them to be the highlight of my day.

Until next time,
Angel

Your owls arrive timely and in good shape. Ah you shower me with compliments, and you have put a smile on my face from reading your letters, although it may not be in person, I am sure you'll be able to make me smile in person as well.

Ah Mermish does seem quite difficult, I give you my respect for taking on such a demanding task of learning that language. That is true, we wouldn't be able to communicate as well as we are if it wasn't required, that totally escaped my mind when I wrote to you last. I would love to teach you Russian if we ever meet and I could take the challenge of learning French from you if you would willingly be my teacher. Indeed I am going to Hogwarts in October. I believe there is to be a ball which excites me, though I doubt my friends would want to go with me. Perhaps we could meet there?

Ah that is good that you are close with your family. I wish I could say the same. My father is.. stricter and I have two older brothers that are quite rude. I am very close with my mother though. My mother is also a homemaker as you call it and my dad, I've actually never have asked what he does now that I think about it. I am not the heir of the family so it doesn't concern me anyways which is fine with me cause I think it would be too much responsibility anyways.

I too am excited to hear your response, not only does it help my English but you are fun to write too.

Awaiting your response,

Milo :)

Mermish is very much testing my learning capabilities right now, but I am actually doing quite well for my age from what I've been told. My father thinks I might have it down by next year if I keep practicing. If you are honestly interested, I would love to help you learn French. Our biggest hurdles to jump over with each other’s languages is that Russian is so heavy on the enunciation, and French is more fluid. So I feel like I will be more likely to try and skip syllables, and you will be more likely to over pronounce. It’s interesting how that is because of the specific way our mouths are used to working our own languages.

Oh my, yes, I would be delighted to meet you at Hogwarts! My friends might be going, but I’m not sure if they plan on doing anything interesting while we are there. I’ll be apart of the broom races, of course, and I want to explore the castle. I was jealous when your school got to go last year. I’m not even sure if my friends will go to this mysterious ball that Hogwarts seems to have planned. I have not heard many details about it, but my cousin goes to Hogwarts, so I know there will be one. A Masquerade, I think? Have you heard anything at all?

When it comes to your family, if you are happy, that is all that matters… I’m… Well, I’m not the heir to my family's fortune either, but I was supposed to be. I guess I am technically heir to what my father has but not anything that our grandparents leave behind. It’s a long story, I think.

Your letters also help my English, and I find myself much more excited to meet you than I am to broom race. :)

Your friend,
Angel

Did you only start learning Mermish last year? Your father is right, it's incredible to master a language as difficult as that one at your age, or just in general. I don't think I could do it but I give you respect for attempting it. Haha I do think Russian and French are quite different. I do tend to over pronounce words when speaking in English as well. Writing in that sense is much easier than speaking. Our language has heavy enunciation as you have said but it become quite smooth when spoken fluently but it might be rather difficult at first, but seeing that you are doing Mermish I believe you can do anything, even Russian. ^^

Ah I would be delighted to see you do broom racing, it shall be pretty interesting to actually know someone doing it. I can confirm your suspicions that the ball is a Masquerade which sounds rather fun. I don't know how Hogwarts does balls but it would be more fun to go with someone. So as informal this may be to ask you through a letter, would you like to go to the ball with me? Whether you agree to this or not I do still hope to see you at Hogwarts when you come with your school. :sweatingbullets:

Well wishes,

Milo

Yes, I started it before my first year of school and try to practice and study when I have the time. Then, of course, over summer was a good time to get a little more polished. I’m hoping by the end of next summer, I will be considered proficient enough. You are too sweet with your confidence in my learning, but I suppose we shall see. Maybe when we see each other, you can teach me a couple of words, and I could do the same for you.

I think this is as formal as you and I could have been without figuring out how to ditch school to see each other, which would definitely not go unnoticed considering the distance involved. I, however, would be delighted to be your date to the ball! I will make sure to incorporate red into my outfit in your honor.

I’m sorry this letter is shorter and took longer; classes have been a little tighter lately. Have you heard about the riots happening across Europe? I listened to some older boys gossiping about squib rights in my school, but I have not been able to get a lot more information. The adults here are more tight-lipped than usual.

Your,
Angel

I cannot express how excited I am that you accepted my offer! We will have a blast at the ball, much more so since I now have someone to go with and we will both be confused and explore together. Haha I do appreciate you wearing red but I can tell that you will look stunning in anything. I hope we will match or at least I shall make an attempt to even though my sense of fashion is quite interesting or so I've been told. Then again none of my guy friends can dress to save their lives..

Do not apologize for the shortness of the letters, school is your main focus, this is just for fun and I still get to hear from you none the less so I am happy. I have not heard of the riots, I could ask my friends about it but I do hope everyone is okay? I try to mind my own business and not get involved in drama most of the time but I shall let you know of any interesting or important gossip floating around Durmstrang. Our Professors are always tight lipped over here.

Vash,

Milo

P.S Your first Russian lesson: Vash, means yours and it sounds like how it is spelled, not too difficult, no? It may not be a useful word but I never said I was a good teacher.
