Meet the Moons...
The air had been turning cold quickly, and Rose wanted to savor all the time she could spend outside... well, outside.
"Thank you for agreeing to meet my siblings," Rose said to Eyre, glancing up at him. Both of her hands were hooked around his elbow as they walked out of the castle. She was on his left side, and he could probably feel the excitement and happiness radiating off of her. She had a red-checkered blanket under her arm, which was intended for them to sit on- Rose's siblings never brought something for them to sit on. All Rose knew was that Faith was in charge of the food. Rose was significantly shorter than Eyre was, but that was probably just because Eyre was tall. "They're going to love you- I know they will."
Who wouldn't love Eyre? He was sweet and loyal, and he treated Rose like a boy should. Even though Eyre's life was tough, he was still really nice to everyone.
"Has your dad written back to you yet?" Rose asked him with another glance up at his face.
She had been thinking about it since he had told her that he worked up the courage to write him, and a million scenarios had run through her mind- I changed my mind and I don't want you; my son! How I've missed you! How are you?; please get out of my life; why didn't you write back?; I love you, please come home.
Rose had hoped it would be a good one, a letter that said he had always wanted to meet his amazing, sweetheart son. A letter that said- love, dad- at the end. Rose wanted Eyre to be happy- he had lacked that so much of his life. That was probably too much to hope for for a first letter, but Rose wished only the best was to be in that letter.
But today he was going to meet her siblings- they were going to have a picnic. A harmless little picnic. Eyre was the only person she had met with more siblings than she had- he had five older sisters, while Rose had four, two in the front and two in the back.
They had approached Rose's siblings, and they were maybe fifteen or twenty strides away from them. They were sitting down under a large tree, facing each other. Faith was also holding a black-and-white striped bag in her lap. From there, Rose could hear and see her brothers bickering- that was all they ever did- bicker and argue and fight, every day that ended with a y.
"Ready?" Rose knew Eyre could be anxious that her siblings wouldn't like him, and everything would fall apart. Rose doubted it. Once he said he was, they set off toward them again.
Faith saw them first. Her eyes lit up, in the exact same way Rose's did. Her long, straight, blonde hair swung around as she turned back to her brothers. "Guys!" she hissed, and they fell silent, their eyes catching on Rose and Eyre.
"Guys, this is Eyre. Eyre, this is Faith, Frankie, and Gabe." Rose motioned to her siblings in turn as she said their name. "My siblings."
A smile grew on Faith's face. It was more of a smirk, really, not too different from Rose's smirk that would appear on her face when she was thinking of something naughty or teasing someone.
"It's good to finally meet the luckiest guy in the world," Faith told him, with a glance at Rose, who was still next to him.
Frankie's expression was lined with skepticism, as if he didn't really trust Eyre yet. Rose hadn't expected Frankie to be protective of her, yet here he was. But his voice wasn't cold as he smirked and said, "She's not wrong, you know."
Gabe snorted. "For once."
"It has nothing to do with luck,"Rose murmured, her voice laced with fondness. It was mostly to herself, but Eyre could probably hear her.
Faith rolled her eyes- you couldn't be in the Moon family without a little harmless teasing.
Rose unhooked her arms from Eyre's elbow, holding out the blanket for them to spread out together.
Rose cast her gaze to Faith. "Weren't you supposed to bring the food?"
"Well..." Faith looked down to the striped bag. "I told Margerie about our picnic... and she thought that she should send us some food." Rose's eyebrows shot up. Their great-aunt Margerie (just Margerie, kiddo.) was a squib but she was still spunky and loved them a lot. But Rose doubted a whole picnic could fit into the bag. The moment the zipper opened, Rose could smell it. Faith handed her a letter first.
Rose opened it skeptically and started to read- "My lovelies- I did get your letters about a dance and you'll find some gifts for the dance in the bag. Also in the bag- (I got one of my friends to enchant it for me- isn't it amazing?) is some food for your picnic-" Rose gasped as Faith pulled a cardboard box out of the bag, way too big to have fit in there- on the cover- "Pizza," She said comically. Rose swallowed back a wave of drool at the tantalizing smell of the pizza. Her eyes following the first box as Faith reached over and put it down. Rose put the letter down beside her and reached over to open the box. And if the smell wasn't a big enough clue, it told you there was pizza inside on the cover (no one out-pizzas the hut). The aroma of the pizza washed over her and she almost sighed in contempt. Almost. But her eyes did flutter as she drew in the scent, her posture sagging. She looked sideways at Eyre. "Have you ever had pizza before? It's amazing." Rose hadn't noticed how pizza-deprived she had been. It had only been a month and she was already missing pizza from the muggle world.
Another box of pizza came out of the bag, only strengthening the aroma. Faith also pulled paper plates out of the bag. Conveniently, there were five instead of four.
Rose picked up the letter again, and continued to read. "Half of the second pizza is gone because I couldn't help myself. No shame, though. I don't regret it."
She smiled at herself and at Margerie. Oh, she loved her.
They started to divy up a pizza and a half.
