About 10 minutes earlier Lamik Fillestar had left his tent. The boy had decided to go on a walk despite the early hour (about 6 AM if he had to guess). He hadn't woken up so early by choice, unfortunately- no, a poor night's sleep full of anxiety and indecisiveness was the root cause of the awful affliction known as being an "early bird". Lamik was tired, yes, but after a good 30 minutes of twisting and turning in bed and trying to fall back asleep, he had come to the conclusion that starting the day was inevitable. Now he was sitting down outside on the grass, looking up at the London Quidditch Stadium in thought.

The root of Lamiks anxiety was quite simple: he was a terrible Seeker for the Gryffindor quidditch team. After the end of the last game of the year, which he had been knocked out of at the start, the Gryffindor had decided that he wanted to quit. There was no point in just getting hurt for no reason, especially if it meant the rest of the team had a worse chance at winning. On the other hand, however, despite having only joined the team for the purpose of experiencing something new, Lamik had come to genuinely enjoy the sport. The search for the snitch was stress-inducing yet exciting, the rush of wind was freezing but fun. Obviously being cheered for by a giant crowd wasn't so bad either. So there he was, tired and unsure, torn between doing what he enjoys doing or quitting while he's still alive and saving his team from further loss. Truly, woe was him.

Iris was hardly anyone to wake up early. However, camp had been an interesting experience and she had done a lot of new things since it had started. Iris hadn't been around the usual group of people. She had participated in an actual activity. She had spent less time in the woods. She had written to her family. A lot of new things.

It was really early and Iris was wearing a Thunderbird sweatshirt with black leggings, a fashion that would usually help her blend in at school, but here, it stood out. She usually spend so much time and effort blending in and climbing the rungs of social acceptance, but at camp, it was so chill. There weren't too many Ilvermorney students here and the ones who were, she didn't know all too well, so she could basically do whatever she wanted and none of it would really get back to school.

Iris didn't realized how deeply she had been in her thoughts because she was soon nearing the Qidditch Pitch. She wasn't a big fan of Quidditch, but she went because everyone else did. Iris was a fan of racing though, that was something she had taken up during school, but she couldn't borrow Alyssa's broom out here so there was no racing for her.

Iris sighed and leaned up against a tree, eyes looking out, but not really seeing. After a moment, she realized that her gaze had drifted to what looked like a person. Iris walked over, unsure why. "Should you be out so early?" Her tone was playfully reprimanding. If she was out so early, may as well talk to someone.

Lamik's camp experience wasn't really special in any way other than the aforementioned dread and confusion. He shared his tent and spent most of his time with Elena Jangleton, a good friend of his from Gryffindor. The activities themselves were alright, though none really caught his interest. No new experiences, no new friends, no especially memorable occurrences. If he had to be honest though, part of him was thankful for that fact. Excitement at Hogwarts often seemed to mean mortal danger. The new places that you go to are oftentimes those that a child should never have to enter. The new people that you meet are often-
"Should you be out so early?"
Lamik flinched, instinctively pushing himself onto one knee in case he needed to run. Obviously, the odds that the person who called out to him was dangerous were extremely slim, a thought that only struck the boy once he actually turned to face them. Instead of a giant scary monster or a group of masked men set on kidnapping children Lamik faced a girl who seemed to be about his age. It took a bit longer then it should have for him to actually realize that her sweatshirt was themed after the Thunderbird house. It's just one of the Ilvormony students. He scolded himself. "Oh- um..." The Gryffindor felt his cheeks redden slightly as he couldn't think of a response. "...No, but here we are anyways." He eventually said.

Huh. She's pretty.

The person turned out to be a boy about her age. He has a nice complexion, sandy hair and captivating blue eyes. For a split second, Iris was silent, before smiling as he flinched. The boy’s cheeks reddened and Iris couldn’t help but smile a little more.

She sat down beside the boy, following his gaze. There was a beat of silence that Iris was quick to fill, “I suppose I may as well learn the name of my fellow rule breaker,” Iris caught the words just after they left her mouth. They were too sophisticated and very not her. “I’m Iris, Ilvermorny, as I suppose you already know,” She glanced down at her sweatshirt with a silly smile.

For a moment, she found herself looking at him. Her mind trying to wrap around something. But she couldn’t quite tell what it was. There was something that her brain was trying to tell her. Then it dawned, her eyes flashed and she turned away, realizing that she had been staring.

Was she actually? No, she could be. Crushing on him? They hadn’t even talked! She didn’t know his name! They had only met for moments. She had gone years without being attracted to anyone and now, she was here failing at flirting. She was just tired, that’s what it was. It was that fact that she was tired and unaccustomed to the area, that’s all it was.

Lamik frowned slightly as he listened to the girl. Wait... am I really not meant to be out at this time? He thought, momentarily freaking out inside. His fear quickly subsided as the stranger settled down beside him. She seemed friendly. "Iris..." He repeated softly, pointing at his left eye. "Is your dad an optometrist, or are you just the goddess of rainbows?" One of the few things Lamik knew about mythology was the name Iris. One of the few things Lamik knew about doctors was how much they sucked what an eye doctor was named. This girls name was very convenient. "I'd believe..." The boy's voice trailed off before he could finish his sentence.

"I'm Lamik by the way. Lamik Fillestar." As he said this, Lamik kept complete eye contact. Not on purpose, really. He just liked Iris's eyes. For a brief moment he forgot about his worries. Maybe meeting new people wasn't such a bad idea. He didn't regret it as of yet. To be fair, however, the two had only known eachother for about 15 seconds by that point, which wasn't what one would call a friendship. It could be though. It really, REALLY could be a friendship. It was at that moment that Lamik decided he wanted Iris to be his friend.

Iris smirked at his jest about being the goddess of rainbows. She had certainly got that one a lot. She had even been pranked and had her robes painted with rainbows once. But the way he said it-- well there was something. Like a deeper meaning or something. Iris realized that she was grasping at straws and just stopped overthinking for a moment.

Lamik. That was his name. It was slightly disappointing that she couldn't make some sort of joke about his name as she had never heard it before. At a temporary loss for words, Iris met his gaze. It wasn't romantic, even though her brain kept screaming that, they were just looking at each other. Being friendly, isn't eye contact one of the three key things of making conversation? Posture, eye contact, smiling? Something like that. It was a good thing she was already smiling.

Iris broke the eye contact first, gazing out at a tree in the distance. "The morning is always the best time. The quiet, the atmosphere. Its almost like the world is paused for several hours. It's always the best time for flying, racing the birds across the sky," Iris didn't even realize that she had started talking. For some reason, everything always circled back to Broom Racing for her. There was just something about it that was just so amazing.

"Sorry, I didn't realize I-- well. Do you fly? Quidditch? Racing?" Iris circled the topic back to her favorite thing, voice not loud or abrasive, but sort of mellow and considerate of the morning atmosphere.

Lamik thought for a few moments about what Iris said. Then he shook his head. "No, I disagree. Mornings are the worst. Waking up sucks, and it's way too bright. I'm far too weak... emotionally, that is... to handle them." The last part was meant as a joke, so hopefully, it would be understood as such. "I prefer later hours. The evening. Night. Sunsets and stars. It's cool, it's calm, and its... well... atmospheric? Would That be the word? Doesn't matter- either way, I find it to be a much better time. To each their own, I guess. To each their own."

The boy cringed when his new acquaintance asked about flying. After a brief inner monologue on how honest he should be, Lamik decided there was no reason to avoid the truth. "I'm on the Gryffindor quidditch team." He said wistfully. "First string seeker, actually. Unfortunately, it quickly became obvious that I'm garbage at the sport. Haven't caught the snitch a single time, and have probably lost my team a few games. So I'm stepping down." Along with this, he quickly added: "Also, I have no idea what you just apologized for, but you were in the middle of talking so... feel free to continue that."

Iris kept finding her gaze on Lamik. That wasn't a bad thing. They were having a conversation. It was right to keep looking at him. Of course. Of course.

Iris laughed at his comment of being too emotionally weak to handle mornings. She understood that. If she didn't have broom racing to wake up to, she would be like everyone else and sleep in as late as humanly possible. "Nights are only fun when there's something going on. And I can't bother myself to just sit and stare endlessly at a bunch of stars doing nothing. Its like staring at dust on a carpet. But, yeah, to each their own."

Iris hardly noticed Lamik's uncomfortable cringe. "Oh nice! I heard the Hogwarts teams were pretty good. One of my friends is a Seeker, or wants to be. But I don't think she has ever caught a snitch but like five times? I did once, but I think it was broken. I use them occasionally to help with speed for racing. My grandpa has a few from when he was in school,"

Iris stopped talking for a moment. She realized that she had never really felt this way before. The electricity and the ease of talking. It was... new. And kind of nice

"I think stars are nice." Lamik said, cocking his head to the side. "If you're in the right place, that is. Low light, quiet, far away from everything else. Not in any city- you have to be somewhere out in the country. Have you ever had a chance to just see the milky way? It's gorgeous." The boy fell onto his back, raising his hand up at the sky. "It's like... a belt of diamonds. I think. I wouldn't actually know, I've never seen any belts covered in diamonds. Anyways, the point is that I find it to be relaxing."

Letting his hands drop down onto his chest, Lamik turned his head to look up at Iris. "I wouldn't know- I've never actually watched any games that had non-Hogwarts teams in them. Believe it or not, I'm not actually a fan of the sport. I enjoyed playing it, I suppose, but I never went out of my way to spectate any games or catch up on the latest Quidditch news. I've always found brooms to be one of the... less interesting aspects of the magical world, honestly." As soon as Lamik finished talking, his eyes widened as if realizing that he did something wrong. "N-not that I think broom racing is in any way boring or unimportant-" another soft blush. "-It's just not really my thing."

Iris kept trying to imagine seeing the night sky like Lamik was explaining. Gorgeous. A belt of diamonds. Relaxing. She couldn't quite see it that way though. She certainly wasn't patient enough to just sit around while watching the stars sluggishly creep up. She'd rather run around in the dark, spook someone, have some fun. Just sitting around really wasn't her thing, but she could pretend for a few minutes.

"I mean, brooms are cool, but it's more what you can do with them than anything I guess," Iris admitted, "I've had the same amount of fun on a school broom than my Nimbus anyway," She remembered times swooping through the sky on the old rickety school brooms, laughing with some friends. Beating them at races across the field even though her broom was far worse than theirs. That's when her spark was born. Her absolute love of flying.

Iris looked at Lamik for a moment, trying to think of what to say. She heard a noise behind them and slumped. "Dangit, people are waking up. I doubt this'll stay a quiet place for long. Would you maybe want to eat breakfast together? Maybe you could continue talking about the stars?" Iris was never really one to let other people talk, she'd rather go off on a rant. But there was just something about Lamik's voice. Or... she just couldn't quite understand...
@Lamik Fillestar Maybe finish in the next post? Sorry to cut it short! >.<
