Though Lucia tugged on Cash's abandoned horseshoe with all her might, it flew out of her grip and landed neatly on the pole of a blonde whom she had never met.
Cursing quietly, she ran back to her own pole and grinned when her second horseshoe attempt worked nicely.
Ok, let's try another! the Hufflepuff thought to herself optimistically, cheered by the prefect's words (though a little disgruntled at being called a 'kid').
Lucia fingered her wand, and opened her mouth to cast Wingardium Leviosa again (indeed, her hand had already begun swishing her wand through the air) but stopped herself. Time to try something new.
Pointing her wand at the horseshoe, she said firmly, "Flipendo!"
Hoping with all her will that the spell would work - she hadn't, after all, had that much practise with it, due to regarding it as slightly unnecessary during the lesson it was taught - Lucia turned from her own pole to examine everyone else's. Several people had two horseshoes already, and it was obvious to the eldest Fox sibling that her hesitation at first had cost her. She might just be able to catch up, but she was unsure of herself, clutching her wand so tight her knuckles seemed to turn a ghostly white.

Lizzie grinned and clapped her hands excitedly together as Cassie's old horseshoe got around her pole. She was doing splendidly! Her Birthday was going exactly how she wanted it to. Everything was going perfect just as she had not planned. The smile on her face could never be wiped off, "Thanks Cash! My brothers caused this hair to happen but it grows pretty quick. I'm sure it will be back to normal in October."

Until she failed on the second spell she tried to cast. That was a complete and utter fail. How could she not continue her streak? Lizzie growled under her breath and watched everyone else. Dealla and Thomas also had two. She did not want to lose at all. Imagine all the things she could do with three galleons! To the small girl that was a lot of money and she would not let it just slip out of her hands to some other person.

She looked over to Cassie and sighed, "Cassie you can do it!" She cheered on while focusing on her own horseshoe and pointing her wand up. Levitate was obviously the thing to go with. It seemed to be working a lot and hopefully it would not fail her any more. She whispered a small, "Wingardium Leviosa." while making the wand movement hoping that it would work. She also prayed that no one actually sabotaged her. That would be outrageous.

It seemed that Serena just wasn't quick enough to get that bonus horseshoe. A different girl with blonde hair was able to wrap it around her pole first. Serena was slightly disappointed but didn't want to dwell on it for too long since this was a timed event. So, Serena turned her attention back to her own pile of horseshoes. After casting the spell, she watched as it wrapped around the pole with a satisfying clank.

“Yes!” Serena exclaimed, turning around and pumping her fist in the air. As she received praise from the older girl, a big smile broke out on her face. “Thanks!” She replied to her fellow Hufflepuff.

Now, Serena just had to catch up with the others. She had a brief thought of trying to move someone else's horseshoe onto her pole, but that would be cheating, and Serena wasn't sure if she would be disqualified if she were caught. So, she decided to go with what was working and cast the levitation charm again. Why fix something if it wasn't broken? “Wingardium Leviosa!” She casted. Hopefully, her horseshoe would wrap itself around the pole again, and she would get another point. If not, maybe she would reconsider her stance on cheating.

@Dealla Prince and @Thomas Baines seemed to be chatting away while they flipped their horseshoes towards their respective poles, and Ami could only marvel at how they were able to multitask like that. Maybe it was because they were actually good at magic... yeah, that was probably it. Honestly, if they had been in her year, it was highly likely that she would've been intimidated by them in some capacity. But as they were mere second years, of course she'd feel like she could lord it over them. However, she still clapped, impressed, as both of them landed their horseshoes. Her jaw dropped further as Dealla proceeded to impale her horseshoe into the ground, like Lizzie had done earlier. "I wasn't kidding about saving the worms, you know," Ami cautioned, although it was pretty clear that she was just joking.

Speaking of success, @Caelan Stewart seemed to be having much better luck this time around, saving him from another painful shoulder pat. "Nice job, kid!" Ami exclaimed, grinning widely. "Now... uh... do that a bunch more times, and you're golden." Right. Solid advice there, Ami. Joining Nick in the Success club was @Lizzie Verdine and @Serena Bowen, who had both landed another horseshoe around their pole. "Nice job, you two," she called over to them, "That's some clean-ass spell work!" ... she shouldn't swear in front of kids, right? Whatever.

@Lucia Fox had also done exceedingly well, and it was obvious to anyone who had learned the spell that she'd just done it perfectly. Everything from her pronunciation of the incantation to her wrist motion was textbook-perfect, and Ami couldn't help but applaud. "That was flippin' gorgeous," she admitted, smiling kindly at her housemate. "Nice job!"

However, Lizzie had been busy cheering on @Cassandra Ironwoods, who seemed to be taking a different approach. Ami watched silently as they aimed their wand towards Thomas' pole, successfully catapulting on of his horseshoes away. But, what with all of Lizzie's cheering, Thomas most certainly would've noticed, and the Hufflepuff fourth year glanced at Baines nervously. She'd heard that the second years could be positively cruel, and she couldn't help but wonder at what type of revenge the Ravenclaw would enact. Maybe he would only tear them apart verbally, or maybe he'd hurl a horseshoe at their head. Who knew? The possibilities were endless!

Nick Stewart:
Succeded in casting (19), spell strength (8), and accuracy (22).

Lizzie Verdine:
Succeeding in casting (22), spell strength (15), and accuracy (22).
Serena Bowen:
Succeeded in casting (13), spell strength (26), and accuracy (26).

Dealla Prince: Succeeded in casting (16), arcane power (nat20), and accuracy (15). Like Lizzie, this means that her horseshoe may NOT be taken away, as she's literally impaled it into the ground.

Cash Ironwoods: Succeeded in flipping Thomas' horseshoe away (casting [20], arcane [24], accuracy [20]). Thomas notices Cash's actions.

Lucia Fox: Succeeded in casting (nat20), arcane power (22), and accuracy (18). Because of the nat20, Lucia has cast her spell so well that she will not have to roll for wisdom next round, getting an automatic success. (I know, uncreative. Sorry.)

Oh - oops. Maybe that had been a little too much power in the last spell, judging from the way her horseshoe was now rammed into the ground around her pole. On the other hand, it wasn't like Dee was above a little (or more than a little) showing off. Don't hide your talents, right?

She threw the older Hufflepuff girl a brilliant smile in return for her comment, almost dripping with self-satisfaction. "I'm just helping them dig over the earth to make their lives easier," she teased back. "No worms were harmed in the winning of this game, I promise."

A quick glance around told her that she was currently in the lead, along with Lizzie. While Thomas had also succeeded in getting another horseshoe around his pole, Cash had decide to switch tactics and sabotage other people instead - Dee was just glad that they hadn't picked her as a target. But while earlier she had also contemplated switching to sabotage at some point, she now quickly realized that it really wouldn't help her at all. She wouldn't be able to steal a horseshoe for herself, just get it off another competitor's pole - there was no way she'd win that way. Gathering more points was the better way to go. Maybe she should thank Cash for that insight, and she certainly wouldn't complain if they decided to keep sabotaging her competition.

It didn't keep her from throwing Thomas a rather provoking grin while she aimed her wand at the next horseshoe. "Falling behind?" A swish, a flick, another charm cast. "Wingardium Leviosa!"

Nick held his breath, he honestly would've just dropped his wand and quit if he hadn't landed a single horseshoe at this point. Luckily, though, the shoe landed nicely on the pole. He yelled with excitement, "Yes!", possibly a bit too loudly, as he shot his fists into the air a couple of times. Nick looked around at the other contestants and saw, to his disappointment, that everyone else had also whipped their shoes around the poles.

Nick wouldn't let that get him down, though, he would run on this 'streak' with power. Feeling more confident, instead of freezing up in slight fear whenever the game's moderator spoke, he confidently said, "Ye know it!" As he looked around, picking up the horseshoe, he saw some conflict brewing between Cash and this one boy. It would be fun to watch, and he may help them out later into the game.

Shaking off the devilish thoughts in his head, Nick focused his brain back towards the competition. For whatever reason, him throwing the horseshoe midair has been helping him increasingly more and more throughout the game. Who knows? He could pierce his shoe into the ground itself at this rate. Swishing and flicking he stated, "Flipendo." while dropping the horseshoe into air.

Admittedly, it didn't take much to set off Thomas' temper. Inherited from his Gryffindor father, the boy was deceptively hot-headed, though he often kept it under wraps. The wizard was quick to anger, albeit slow to show it, and instead resolved to take a deep breath as he kept his cool. Still, all of the rage-managing strategies in the world couldn't prevent the boy's snark, and he cast a rather haphazard remark towards Cash. It may have been in poor taste, at the very least it wasn't particularly sportsmanlike, but ultimately the Ravenclaw had little care in the world for chivalry at the moment as he spat out his insults.

Commentary on Cash's house struck him as the easiest means of attack, so he started there. "Hm, typical Slytherin. You're lucky I'm the bigger person," Thomas stated boldly, despite the fact that in both the literal and the figurative sense he almost certainly was not, "Or I'd be considering fighting back. That, and you don't have any points for me to sabotage either." The smugness in his tone was as thick as molasses, though far more bitter. If it were to be distilled, it'd be toxic and volatile.

After the words left his mouth, Thomas noted the tension in his shoulders; a subconscious reaction that clearly displayed his feelings on the matter. In an attempt to ease up, to both appear apathetic and to prevent his stiffness from affecting his spellwork, he diverted his focus to some of the other conversations at hand. Noticing Dealla and Ami's brief worm-themed banter, the young wizard opted to chime in with his own commentary. "No worms were harmed in the loss of this game," he cheerfully corrected, though he was sure the banter wouldn't be taken too seriously.

While Dealla was focusing hard on her attempts at snagging another one of the horseshoes, Thomas was focused on an entirely different task. "Wingardium Leviosa," he cast, planning on stealing one of the points from the girl, wiggling his wand to wrench one free of her post ideally. Should this maneuver be successful, he'd attempt to carefully place it on his own post. That wasn't against the rules... At least, so he remembered. It wasn't as if Thomas had been paying much attention in the first place.

Well, it seemed as if Serena wouldn’t have to cheat after all (at least not yet anyway) because the horseshoe once again landed right onto the pole!

“Yes! Two in a row!” Serena exclaimed. Was she getting a little too into it? Maybe, but this was the most fun she’d had in a while. And so what if she got a little competitive? At least she hadn’t resorted to sabotaging the other contestants. Speaking of which, she quickly glanced at the others’ poles. It seemed as if Serena was currently tied for second place with a couple of other students. So, she was doing pretty well. The Hufflepuff just had to keep the momentum going and try to get a few more horseshoes onto the pole, and she would be victorious. Or at least tie for first place with someone else. She wouldn’t mind sharing her win with one or two other people. But she shouldn’t get ahead of herself. First, the twelve-year-old had to actually get the most horseshoes onto her pole.

So, Serena aimed her wand at another horseshoe and cast yet another Levitation Charm. Once again, there was no need to fix something that was working. “Wingardium Leviosa!” She said. ‘Don’t fail me now!’ Serena thought to herself.

A grin was plastered upon her face as she saw yet another horseshoe go around her pole. Lizzie was defiantly having a good day. Quickly moving her eyes around, she tried to see what everyone else was doing. It look liked Cash’s attempt to sabotage Thomas had actually worked! That was not a good sign. Who would she go for next? As soon as one person starts to sabotage who knows who could go for her own victory pile.

She needed to continue to concentrate and zone out anyone around her. Lizzie wasn’t sure how many rounds there would be and needed to secure the position in first or second. Third would just be a push. The girl was aiming for the top spots. Not for the prizes. Just to make herself feel good. It would also indicate she is better at spells than she thought she was.

“Wingaridum Levisoa.” She said while moving her wand. It seemed to be the spell to go for. The other one didn’t seem to work out for the other people and there probably would be no change for Lizzie so she had decided to play it safe. “Better safe than sorry.” She mumbled while shaking her head slightly.

It was perfect. Lucia pumped her fist, whispering a happy "Yes!" as the horseshoe flew gracefully into the pole. Her self-esteem only increased as her spellwork was described as "flippin' gorgeous" by the referee (as Lucia had decided to call her, seeing as she'd forgotten her housemate's name).
"Thanks!" she beamed in reply, then turned to see how everyone else was doing. Two girls, both Ravenclaws by the look of it, had three horseshoes in contrast to Lucia's two. One of them was the girl who had magically wrenched Cash's horseshoe out of the Hufflepuff's hands earlier, and this fact was not lost on Lucia as she glared at the poles.
Cash, however, was the lowest scorer so far, with precisely zero horseshoes on her pole. Lucia felt sorry for her - or, at least, she did until Cash knocked the horseshoe off someone else's pole with an easy kind of skill.
Maybe Lucia should try doing that? But then again, really she needed to concentrate on gaining points, not knocking off other peoples.
Lucia concentrated on the horseshoe, and whispered, "Wingardium Leviosa!"
A flick of her wrist completed the spell, leaving the raven haired girl standing with a smile on her face.
