"Oh, yeah, that makes sense. It can all be very hard"
Riley watched Jo "Hey, why aren't you eating? Food is good" She offered a hopeful smile.
She turned the topic back to crushes. "That makes sense though, and I'm sorry that happened with the girl. People can suck sometimes. Like, the actual worst" She laughed a bit. "I was friends with mostly boys when I was in my muggle school, and when I didn't crush on them like everyone else I was confused. I've still crushed on some boys, but mostly girls. Girls are pretty" She smiled a wide grin. "I was scared to be friends with girls when I was younger because I thought I'd think they're pretty and I didn't think that was normal, I didn't like that feeling. My brother told me all about this stuff though, I'm very grateful.
She then realized she was rambling so she closed her mouth, turning a little red ""Sorry, I ramble a lot" She felt bad for possibly annoying the girl with her rambling. She did that a lot, ramble. If she finds something to talk about, she'll talk about it for hours if she can. Rambling is fun.

Jo stared at her book thinking of the best way to reply. Maybe the first things first? Maybe, This was a lot better than sitting alone. "Oh, I am still full from lunch" she turned the topic to friends because she thought it would be the quickest for her to get over because she didn't have a long history of friendships.

"The only people that I was "friends" with- she air quoted again were people either my parents knew or that felt guilty." she admitted it, People felt guilty because they would work with her on projects and ignore her until the next one, I mean work is work, be it slow or fast, work is work. Her Face grew more relaxed as she kept looking onto the pages filled to the edges with text. It was fun to have somebody to talk to while reading, but it was also fun to study alone at times. Alone is sometimes good was the phrase Jo always consulted when she felt alone. Maybe there was a reason... But she shouldn't think of it now.

" Rambling is actually nice at times, " Jo smiled, it wasn't that rare, but she did like it, her face barely shifted from the focused and awake figure she always tried to have, she was always tired but that wasn't the point. "Rambling is sort of... Like writing a diary but through saying it... Like, say you start rambling about a test and talking about the questions, it's kind of like writing it down into a diary. It's also nice to have while you're reading or doing something of the sort that usually is associated with quiet rooms " she flipped the musty page, she didn't care how old and used it was, all that mattered was that it did it's job and Jo did her's which was learning.

" But it's nice to talk to somebody about your problems and ask for advice if something goes sort of wrong Because writing it down in an old book usually doesn't get you anywhere does it?" she giggled a bit, she was referring to tom riddles diary, the one that could reply to your questions, give answers and make you feel less lonely... for a bit.

"More is always better, isn't it? Having more friends means if you dont have one of them you have the others to back you up, sort of like if your favourite shirt has to go in the laundry you wear the others until your favourite is clean again." she smiled, it was almost time for them to head up .. or down to the dormitories, but they still had time. Time is nice.

"Thats dumb. Your parents shouldn't pick your friends for you. And I don't understand why people are friends with people because they feel guilty, that's so stupid." She shook her head. People never really approached her to become friends, she always kinda... adopted them as her friend. She was always outgoing, so she would just go up to someone and soon enough they would be friends.

"I guess rambling can be like that. I just always get nervous I'm annoying the other person with how much I'm talking. It can be nice though, I like to listen to people ramble sometimes, especially when it's something they're passionate about. It's nice to listen to, I guess." She shrugged, smiling. She enjoyed talking to Jo, she let Riley ramble.

"I've never heard friends compared to shirts. That's an interesting way to describe it, but I guess it works." She noticed it was almost time to go back to the dormitories. She didn't want to go, she was enjoying talking to Jo. Well, they'd be able to talk tomorrow, hopefully. She had to start planning her outfit for the ball. She wasn't sure if she wanted to wear a dress, or maybe a nice sweater and some jeans. Well, she'd figure it out.

As Riley finished talking she stopped, considered and thought about it more.
"Yeah it kind of sucked a lot, but at least i had a friend you know..? Atleast I had one" she smiled at Riley, it felt forced and probably looked forced, but she stoped after a moment she hated the girl from her muggle school, she manipulated her and was toxic enough for her to wish to just not even have friends.


She sighed and closed the book which made a THUD! which made Jo jump a little although she was used to it. Jo put her head onto the book and closed her eyes, she needed to focus. It was a bit sad, and she felt it.

"Yeah, it can be nice" she was still sad about her muggle friends, not realizing she felt a patch of cold on her skin, she made it snow... again. She couldn't help but think how much she has spent her muggle school years being and following what the girl said.

"Maybe we should go.. Curfew starts soon and its kind of a walk to the Slytherin common room form here." she said lifting her head and putting away the book into her bag.
It was starting to snowless on her, but it wouldn't be nice walking into the common room soaking wet from the snow.


"I got to really run-" she said to Riley she gave her a quick smile and ran out, she knew it was going to be curfew soon. Its a bit too far, maybe she will bump into Riley soon.

Riley smiled and waved and the other girl. She sat for a minute, thinking about her. Riley had just met her, but she was pretty sure she wanted to be more than friends. Whatever, she could push that away until later. But the butterflies in her stomach wouldn't leave her alone. Maybe at the ball she'd tell Jo. She looked at everyone else at the table, getting up to leave, the ghosts floating around, everyone rushing off to start homework, or to sit and talk to their friends. She would probably go finish the rest of her homework and then go to the sleep. It would be best to take her mind off of all of this, then she'd be able to get rid of the violent butterflies in her stomach. She still had tons of homework to do, but hopefully she'd be able to focus. She watched the other students again, deciding it would probably be best if she just left the great hall and started up to the dormitories.
She got up, starting out of the great hall, rushing off to the Ravenclaw dormitories to make sure she met curfew.
