Katie walked into the Owlery softly. She had sealed her letters for her parents inside their envelopes earlier today. Siobhán would be here shortly to. Siobhán was worrying to the Irish ministry, and she was writing to get parents. Only one of their letters was truthful, and it wasn't Katie's.
Katie had enjoyed her chat with Siobhán earlier today by the Great Lake. Even if Katie could still hardly believe that Siobhán didn't judge her for her parents, she was glad to have a new friend. She'd never really had one before, so it was certainly a welcome relief to chatting with her parents of all people.
She smiled to herself. Katie didn't have a pet yet, as her parents didn't think it necessary, so she'd have to use a school owl. She felt like a charity case. Her parents had always hated it when she felt like a charity case, so she had quickly learned not to tell them after the first few times. She hummed softly as she examined the owls. A small, gray one was perched on the branch closest to her. Maybe him? His light body shouldn't weigh him down whole flying to her parents, and he seemed intelligent enough.

Siobhán sat at a desk trying to think about the best way to compose this very important letter. She new she had to make it sound urgent so that her father would take immediate action. How should I write this? I have to get this done soon. Short and sweet? No. This needs to be at length to describe the situation so that my father knows this needs to be done right this moment. With that, she started to write.

Dear Father,

I hope this letter finds you well as I need you to take action with the contents within this letter immediately. I know you don't like to use your job as a power, but in this situation, it's very important. I have made a friend at school. Her name is Katie Palsorette, suppose you have heard of the Palsorettes? This is where I need you to take action. Katie's parents are the worst kind of people. They hurt and torture their daughter Katie. Using curses and Unforgivables. She wants to be free of them. She's told me that she has tried before, but the British Ministry of Magic is useless. I've hoped that bringing this to your attention that you can somehow help her in a way that's better than her government. As you've mentioned,'No child should have to suffer at the hands of a parent(s)'.

I implore you to help Katie. She doesn't care if she is disowned from her family, has to be assigned new guardians, or has to change her name, so long as she is out of her parents' clutches. Thank you, Father. Please send back correspondence at your earliest convenience if something as occurred of even the littlest of importance! Time is precious!

Your Daughter,
Siobhán

Finishing up the letter, Siobhán took a deep breath. Hopefully this letter will work. She rolled up the letter and tied it with a bit of string. She felt as if a weight was on her shoulders as she walked to the Owlery to meet up with Katie. This letter was Katie's only hope. As she got closer to the Owlery, she took deep breathes. Soon, hopefully, everything would change for Katie, for the better. She opened the door with a deep breath, and walked in side. She saw Katie scrutinizing a bird.

"Hello, Katie," she said quietly, so as not to scare her. She walked over to her and looked at the bird as well.

Hey Siobhán Katie said, her smile brightening as she saw her new friend. I truly love breakfast for dinner. I don't know why everyone always looks at me oddly at the Slytherin table when I have it. It truly was strange. Clearly the other Slytherins didn't know just how good breakfast for dinner was. While one might only eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, add generally out tended to be a smaller meal, one could have a full English breakfast for dinner, and not overeat. Besides, breakfast just traded good in general.
Breakfast for dinner was one of a few things I've always loved no matter what age I am/was. My parents disapproved of me eating breakfast for dinner, because it didn't fit their definition of "proper" for a pure-blood, so I was thrilled when I came to Hogwarts and could eat all the breakfast for dinner I wanted. Katie said, with a slightly mischievous grin. though my parents and I did get into a lot of disagreements over breakfast for dinner before I learned. I must say. I learned not to push the topic rather quickly. Katie added with an underlying bitter tone directed at the thought of her parents.
How quickly do you think your letter will travel? Keeping pretenses up over Yule would be exhausting. Katie said as she touted her own letters to her chosen owl's leg and gave the owl directions to Palsorette manor.

"I only eat breakfast for dinner once in a while, but I understand why you like it. It's fun to mix it up. Also, It depends on what owl I chose to send the letter. I could use my own owl, Anastasia". As soon as Siobhán finished saying the name, a large barn owl floated down and landed on Siobhán shoulder, nibbling her ear a little. Anastasia had all the features of a barn owl, except where her body would be a light amber color, her whole body was white. "Hello, sweet girl," Siobhán rubbed the owl on the base of her beak and the owl chirped. She gave Anastasia the small pieces of bacon that she saved from her dinner.

"Even though Anastasia isn't the fastest flyer, she's still pretty fast. It would also be rude of me to pick a different owl when she's right here in front of me, obviously so very bored." Siobhán had stretched out her arm and Anastasia has shuffled her way down it, used her beak as leverage and grabbed the underside of Siobhán's forearm with her feet to hang upside down. Siobhán swung her arm slowly from side the side to act like a swing for Anastasia. "You silly bird. You're not a monkey." Anastasia chirped again and Siobhán giggled. Siobhán looked at Katie. "This is one of her favorite pass-times when she's not sending letters or out hunting for food. She loves swinging from my arm for some reason. Don't worry about being bitten if she comes near you. She's friendly. Most of the time. The only time when she makes an enemy of someone is when they don't give her treats after delivering a letter to it's destination. My parents learned that the hard way even though I warned them."

Katie giggled at the thought of parents learning something the hard way because they didn't listen to kids. Kids were much smarter than parents gave them credit for and it was their loss. Katie smiled in contemplation.
Katie had heard that there was a fall dance coming up. She didn't know if she wanted to go, but she didn't know if she even had a choice. She would much rather prefer to read her own book in the solace of her room or under a thousand twinkling stars of the night sky if she did indeed have a choice on whether or not to go. Katie briefly wondered if Siobhán would be attending. She looked like she could be a good dancer, but then again, almost all the pure-blood families taught their children how to dance. Siobhán likely felt the same as her about dances.
I heard there was a fall dance coming up. Do you know if we have to go? I'd probably prefer to be away from all the noise and racket. Katie asked. She'd seen some guys asking girls to the dance. Wouldn't the guys rather take their date to a quiet private place away from noise attention and gossip? Katie knew that if anyone could manage to love her, that's what she would do. She was bisexual of course, meaning she liked both girls and guys, but she highly doubted anyone liked her back. And she'd really prefer to not date if it meant going to fancy dances with a bunch of people acting like stereotypical Gryffindors. Not that all Gryffindor were like that though.

Siobhán looked at Anastasia with a serious face. All right, silly girl, it's time to stop playing. I have a very serious job for you." Anastasia let go of Siobhán's arm and settled on the table in the middle of the room. She puffed out her chest and stood at attention, ready to receive her job. "Okay, I need you to take this letter to father at the Ministry as fast as you can. If he doesn't read it right away, do whatever you have to to make sure that he does. It's very important. If he wants to send back an immediate reply, what for him to write it and return with it, okay?" Anastasia screeched her okay and Siobhán tied the letter to the base of the owls leg that she had stuck out. "Fly safe." Siobhán stroked the feathers on Anastasia's head and then the owl took off out one of the many windows. Siobhán let out a heavy sigh of relief. Now they just had to wait.

"If there is a ball, I'd much rather be inclined to be reading somewhere far away from it. Although, if we were forced to go, I'd sneak a book in and read it in one of the corners of the room, away from everybody else. Parties are too loud, hot, and uncomfortable for me. Which is why I'm glad that my parents have no time to host them or go participate in them." Siobhán hated parties. She hated the crowds. Balls and parties seemed like such a waste of money to her. She didn't even want to understand why people liked them so much.

Same! When I was younger my parents forced me to attend lots of pure-blood balls. It was truly the worst. Katie commented. Anyway, I don't think we'll be forced to go. Hogwarts isn't like my parents. Kate said, reaffirming herself more than Siobhán. Truth be told, she was worried about exactly that, but she more so clung into hope that they wouldn't be that way. Besides, they hadn't been that way from what she could tell so far, but then again, she hadn't gotten a detention yet.
I got an O on my herbology homework. Katie commented dryly. I hadn't expected Hogwarts to be super difficult, but it actually makes a good challenge. I doubt I'll live up to my parents expectations though. I have an Acceptable average and they both got straight O's. Katie added. Let's not think of them though. Tomorrow's Sunday. Do you want to study in the library together? Katie asked. I have Potions and Charms homework to do. How about you?
Katie smiled to herself and strokes one of the owls in the Owlery. Owls were soft and sensitive creatures that generally tended to have an intuitive sense about the world. She liked that about owls. It reminded her of herself.

"Well, hopefully you'll only have to live up to the expectations you set for yourself soon," Siobhán said with a smile. This letter will, hopefully, set a lot into motion for Katie. It will be a wild ride for her, Siobhán was sure, and she knew that it would be rougher before it got smoother, but at least she's helping Katie take her first step. The letter to her father will help, probably more than they even know.

"I haven't found the lessons to be too difficult. I find the rather fun, actually. Does learning count as a hobby? If it does then it's my number one hobby. If I'm not gardening or sleeping, I'm usually reading a book of information. I love books with stories, of course, but I prefer gaining knowledge opposed to how perfect a love interest could impossibly be." Siobhán didn't hate the love-dovey romance books. She'd read one from time to time, but she knew it was just fairy tales. The best love to read about was from history books on topics like Soul Binding, Animagus Mating, and Soul Mates. "I've finished all my homework, but I could go to the library as well, just to read even, if that's all right?"

Yeah, of course you can come to the library just for reading. Katie said with a small laugh. That is what it's there for. she added with a slight classic Slytherin smirk.
You know, I kinda hope that nobody thinks to ask me to the dance. I know that in all probability, no-one will, but I have seen guys ask other girls and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have any good looks. It's those darn Palsorette... jeans? I think muggles called inheritance patterns in families jeans. I'm not sure being raised by them after all, but I thought I overheard a m- muggle-born girl talking about inheriting her thin frame from her mother's jeans or something. Skinny jeans was it? I'm honestly not sure. Upon realizing she'd gone of on a tangent, she reworked her thought process to figure out what she had been about to say. Right! Anyway, I hope no-one asks me because I hate dances and I hate people assuming I'm straight off I date a guy and a lesbian if I date a girl. People can be so idiotic at times huh? Doesn't really matter though I suppose. My parents made sure they gave me more than just my Palsorette jeans and I can't say I'm even a little grateful.

Siobhán giggled," I think the word your looking for is 'genes', spelled g-e-n-e-s. It mean that the things that our parents are made of combine in fascinating ways to make us when they copulate. Like how when people say you have your mother's eyes and your father's nose. Things like that. It's all very interesting. My mother mistakenly purchased a book about it and I read it. Muggles are incredible with their science. They learn all these things without magic, about the natural world around us and we carry on, only knowing what magic teaches us instead of the bigger picture. It's a little sad."

She looked at the floor and moved her feet around. "Even if a boy asked me out, I'd have to decline. I don't like the male gender in a romantic sense. They're too loud and boisterous. Highly annoying on a lot of occasions. Even then, as you said staying away from all the chaos is ten times better than any date to a party. A perfect date would be a small dinner in the library, picking out a good book together, then reading it together on a love-seat couch. Nothing would be better than that. It would be the best." Siobhán smiled and started to walk around.
