~Narrator's POV~

After Kara had passed out, the firemen, police, ambulance, and her parents all arrived on scene, but instead of Kara being taken to a normal hospital, since her brother was announced dead, there were no muggles in her household, she was taken to St. Mungo's Hospital of Magical Maladies.

Kara was hooked up to an oxygen mask, an IV dripped in her arm, and she had earned a burn scar on her upper left arm. Ever since she had woken up, she slipped in and out of consciousness for a few days, until today, where she was ale to stay stable.

~Kara's POV~

I had been awake for a few hours now, and I now know that my hair was completely singed, so it was cut off into a pixie bob, not like I'll miss having long hair, it kinda got in the way sometimes. I was just sitting up in my hospital bed, and my mother was squeezing me as hard as humanly possible in a giant bear hug.

"Kara, we were so scared, this shouldn't have happened, we should have been there!" Lilly cried sorrowfully into my shoulder.

My father then placed a hand on her shoulder and then softly said,

"Don't squeeze her, Lilly, we don't want to rack up her lungs again. It's true that this could've had a better outcome, but no charm can heal the past."

Lilly sighed and got off of me, and brushed my cheek with her thumb, to which I leaned into till she pulled away.

"The doctors said that you can have visitors today, so we sent out letters to the people you had been talking about to us, and the owls were sent earlier, so they'll know, we're going to leave so you can have some alone time with them" Matthew said.

I watched as my mother and father went towards the door. I noticed that my mother's dark skin was blotchy, and that my father's pale skin was as well. Lilly said her goodbyes and left, whilst Matthew looked back at me, running a hand through is platinum blonde hair, letting out a shaky breath.

"Get better soon, Kar."

My eyes slightly widened, I hadn't heard that nickname in a while, not ever since I was around age seven.

The door closed, and I looked around, and I kept looking at my reflection in the window. My white hospital gown had a wet spot where my mother was crying, the oxygen mask kept fogging up slightly when I breathed. The burn scar on my left arm only showed partway, as the sleeve of the gown covered some of it.

As I kept staring at myself, tears welled in my eyes, and I released an anguished cry, to which my lungs burned, but I ignored it. I kept crying for a bit, till I composed my. My lungs were stinging from the strain, and I just kept looking out the window till my visitors arrived.

With each step she took, she was getting closer to the hospital ward her friend was residing in. With each step she took, Heather became more and more anxious.

Fumbling absentmindedly with the bouquet she currently held it in her hands, the blonde girl wondered if she should have bought something else, instead of flowers. But what would be appropriate to offer to someone who was caught in such a tragic event like Kara did? While the Ravenclaw had never faced a dilemma like this before, it wasn't hard to understand that the injured girl certainly wasn't in the mood for any fun presents.

The news of the Slytherin's accident both shocked and filled Heather with fury. While she had been already disappointed by her trip to London, thanks to her lovely mother, the moment she received the owl sent by Kara's parents was by far the worst thing that happened those days.

When she first started reading the letter, the tall girl had feared that something much worse happened; but, even though her friend had survived, it was still painful to think that her brother passed away. Heather didn't know Gabriel personally, but from what Kara had said about him, he was a good person, and she knew that the two siblings shared a close relationship. She couldn't even fathom how her friend was still holding up; she had already lost her sister, and now her brother was gone too.

After a long walk through the corridors, the blonde finally came face to face with Kara's salon. Although at first she confidently moved her hand to push the door open, her fingers suddenly hovered over the knob. Behind that door was one of her best friends, and the said friend had been caught in a fire. What should she do in this case? What should she say when she would lock eyes with Kara? 'I'm sorry for your loss'... That would be too plain, the easiest way out... Empty words would only bring more pain, so the Ravenclaw had to be careful.

Heather didn't even realize she'd been holding her breath, sitting in front of the room like a fool until a nurse asked her to move so she could go inside and check on Kara. This also made the girl realize that she should take the chance and enter too- it was now or never. Thus, the Ravenclaw took a deep breath and stepped inside the salon, smiling bitterly as she came face to face with her friend's injured form. Poor Kara! The blonde didn't dare to get closer for a moment, deciding to wait instead next to the door. After a few minutes, when they were finally left alone, Heather found courage and slowly approached her friend. The Slytherin's brown locks that were always framing her face so flawlessly were gone now, and on her left arm, Heather could see a large burn, proof of the hell she went through.

"Oh, sweetheart!" Heather cried as she placed the bouquet on a nearby table, then sat down on the bed, next to her sweet Kara. It was so hard to see her in that state; she wanted to hug her friend so badly, to do the smallest gesture that could give her even the slightest comfort, but Heather knew that the girl was in a weak state, so she had to be careful. In the end, she decided on faintly embracing the brunette, careful as to no-touch her burn mark.

It was sad, that after their Summer Camp spent together, the two friends had to meet again under much worse circumstances. Backing away a bit, the blonde Ravenclaw took Kara's hand into hers and started caressing it gently. "How are you holding up? I'm so, so sorry for what happened to you... From the moment I received the letter felt horrible. I came here as soon as I was allowed to." Heather didn't know what to say anymore, so she let out a small, sorrowful smile, and continued holding her friend's hand.

Sometimes silence spoke louder than words.

As Kara was waiting, she heard the door click open. She decided to turn her head towards the sound, where she saw her blonde Ravenclaw companion, Heather.

The girl was holding a bouquet of sunflowers, peonies, and other pretty flowers. A large black hat adorned her head and she was wearing a leather jacket and a geometric dress. Kara's brown eyes, which were puffy from crying, looked over the girl. She still looked so beautiful, almost as though she didn't age.

How does someone manage to look so beautiful in a crisis? She has thought to herself.

As Kara was scanning over Heather, she noticed Heather doing the same to her, and it landed on her newfound scar, to which Kara scoffed softly.

"Oh, sweetheart!"

Heather had let out a distressed wail, sat the bouquet on a table in the room, and walked over to Kara, sitting on the bed beside her. She had held her hand softly in her own, and then started to talk.

"How are you holding up? I'm so, so sorry for what happened to you... From the moment I received the letter felt horrible. I came here as soon as I was allowed to." She said with a sorrowful tone. They were drawn out as though she had no idea what to say. Heather sounded practically speechless.

Heather had let out a small, slightly depressing smile. Kara looked into her deep blue eyes, and then placed a hand on the girls shoulder.

"You know, you can still touch me, I'm not going to break at the slightest graze of physical attention." She said, her once silky voice now having a slight raspy tone to it, and it was somewhat muffled against the oxygen mask.

"And to answer your question, I've been okay...I guess. I was falling in and out of consciousness beforehand, but I seem to be able to stay awake, but of course, no need to worry." Kara continued, looking at the girl, but her voice was very sad, and unconvincing.

"You know, you can still touch me, I'm not going to break at the slightest graze of physical attention." Kara said, placing a hand on the blonde's shoulder. Ah, there she was, Heather thought. The fighter.

Letting out a small giggle, The Ravenclaw nodded. "Right, right- But still, who knows what secret force lies within me? I might be stronger than I think," she replied with a smile. Maybe telling a joke or two would lighten up the atmosphere? Of course, the tall girl couldn't make her friend forget about what happened to her, but she could try to help. Help her overcome this obstacle in her life, just like she did with so many others.

"And to answer your question, I've been okay...I guess. I was falling in and out of consciousness beforehand, but I seem to be able to stay awake, but of course, no need to worry." Kara replied, the sadness behind the words being obvious, despite her attempt at hiding it. Looking down at her hand that still caressed Kara's palm, Heather bit the inside of her cheek, furrowing her eyebrows. She wanted to be fully there for her friend, but... something had bothered her from the moment she'd received the letter. It might be just her obsession with knowing all the details, or a gut feeling, but the Ravenclaw had to find out.

"Kara, can I ask you something?" Taking a deep breath, Heather hoped she wasn't too inconsiderate. "I mean, it's completely fine if you don't want to talk! But," Swallowing, the girl felt her mouth go dry. Should she ask this? She wasn't sure how Kara reacts to everything, if she can talk about the events without the pang of pain hitting her each time she thinks about that fateful night. Maybe she would be hurt by the blonde's question?

Heather wanted to do what was the best for Kara, she truly did. But, in the end, her curiosity was stronger.

"How.... how it did happen?"
