Cedar is brave and likes to talk even if they're complete strangers and will make friends with them really quickly. He finds that the pricklier a person is, the more he tries to befriend them, since his life is based around attempting new challenges. He is the daredevil of the family, for better or for worse. Sometimes he'll hurt himself, while other times he pulls of fantastical and sometimes even helpful stunts (but that's not too common).

Cedars parents are both magical and own a farm for magical creatures on the outskirts of London. His sister, Miranda Everest, has also performed a trick of magic when a group of muggles tried to hurt him and she made all their shoes magically combust

The first piece of magic Cedar ever did was when he was four and his parents had attempted to put him in a muggle school. Cedar threw a huge temper tantrum upon meeting his future teacher, and caused several nearby items (pencils, rulers, other small wooden things) to be ignited. After that he wasn't accepted into the school, much to his relief, and the Ministry of Magic sent a pair of Obliviators to erase the students' and teacher's memory of the event, and so they have always remembered the incident as a moment when a possible student (Cedar) went on a rampage and tore through the small items he could access on the desk and tables. While his parents seemed uninterested in the fact that their son had performed magic, his older sister Miranda was absolutely ecstatic, and pointed out with surprise that both of their first magic attempts had included fire.
