Wren pulled off her pajamas and slipped into her clothes. It was 9:00 at night, and the rest of the first years were asleep, oblivious to what she was doing. She was supposed to be in bed, but after what happened with Paisley a couple nights before, she needed some time to herself. Everyone was talking about the two Gryffindor girls who had wrecked the hallway, and she was not enjoying it. She was used to be the talk of the school, because after all being a witch with uncontrollable magic at a muggle school earns you a life long reputation. But this was different. This was supposed to be a new start for her, a chance for her to fit in with everyone. I guess I'm just meant to stand out.
She pulled on her jacket, all the while making sure she didn't wake her sleeping companions, and walked towards the door. She flung it open quickly, she as to avoid the terrible creaking noise, and closed it as softly as she could. She listened for a moment to see if anyone had woken up, then set out down the stairs and into the corridor. Double checking that she knew the password, and ignoring the glaring expression of several portraits, she made her way down the staircase, carefully avoiding the trick stair, until she came to the ground floor. It was deserted so late a night, and she was relieved that the door to the grounds was unlocked. Not like I'd be worried anyway. Quietly slipping out the door, Wren let out a sigh as she headed towards the forbidden forest. This was the first time she had been actually alone since she came to school. No one following her, no one talking about her behind her back, nothing.
She walked slowly to the forest. The was no one around after all, and she had the whole night to get there. No need to rush. Wren reached into her pocket her for wand. She had wanted to practice some spells near the forest, and with no Paisley around to mess it up she was certain it would go well. What does this school have against me? I have the worst luck here. She felt a wave of annoyance as she realized that her wand was not in her pocket. Suddenly the sound of footsteps came to her ears. Turning around so she was walking backwards, Wren saw a girl with familiar boring brown hair and dull green eyes running after her.

Paisley didn't know what Dipper was up to, but it couldn't be good. When the young Gryffindor had been trying to find sleep, but it was deemed impossible, she took to looking out the huge window she and her nemesis shared. Dipper hadn't been sitting there that evening, thankfully. It was rare that Paisley got the entire dorm to herself. Well, almost to herself. It was quiet, and everyone was asleep, so that counted.
Paisley was shivering in her striped pink and white pajamas. Her top was long sleeved and slim, and the bottoms were shorts with tiny ruffles at the bottom. They were soft cotton, and Paisley always felt at ease when she wore them. She was holding her legs close to her chest, gazing out the window. She was concealed within a shadow, so that if anyone were to get up, they wouldn't see her.
Paisley heard a rustling in the room, but didn't turn to see who it was. Judging by the location it was Dipper, and Paisley didn't need to know what she was doing. She didn't care, really. She refused to make eye contact with Dipper since their last meeting, when things had gone horribly wrong. It had been a wonder no one had woken up or caught them.
When the door creaked, Paisley turned her head slightly. She had been sitting stone-still in the shadow, so that not even someone with the keenest eye would be able to see her. "Where are you going, Dipper?" Paisley muttered to herself. For a moment it seemed as if Wren had heard her, because she had stopped, but then she continued on. Paisley really was glad she hadn't been seen. The last thing she needed was a run-in with Dipper. I hope she's not sneaking out, that'd get her in trouble. Paisley worried. She didn't know why she cared about this, and she shoved the thought quickly from her mind.
She stood up as quietly as she could and slipped over to Wren's bed. The covers were still undone, and her nightstand held a variety of things. There was only one item there that caught the young werewolf's eye.
"Dipper..Dipper...Dipper. You really shouldn't leave your wand out." said Paisley softly, picking it up in her hand. She wasn't exactly stealing it, she was just picking it up. Besides, she wasn't going to use it. She wasn't confident enough in any spells to do that. She just wanted to know what it was like, holding another witch's wand.
Paisley brought it over to the window with her. It flung open in the nighttime wind, and Paisley looked around, alarmed. She didn't want any of her dormmates waking up right now, she was having too much fun secretly tormenting Dipper.
She waved the wand around, wondering what would happen if Dipper saw her now. It would be hilarious, really, to see what she would do. She couldn't fight her, because Paisley had her wand.
That was when Paisley smelled it. Something was off. The opened window had a distinct scent, and this wasn't it. Someone was on the grounds, and Paisley had a hunch of who it was.
She leapt out of bed and ran out of the room, forgetting to put on a jacket. No matter how comfortable her pajamas were, they were still really thin, and Paisley would regret this decision later.
She made sure to grab her wand, and didn't realize she still held Dipper's in her other hand.
She continued along through the halls until she was finally at the doors to the grounds. You're sneaking out, Brown. Is this really what you want to be doing? You'll be no better than Wren!
Paisley shook her head, clearing her thoughts. She took her first few steps slowly, but soon realized her bare feet did not want to stay that long on the wet grass. She continued forwards quickly, then broke into a run. She pulled up to Wren, smirking. She had been practicing this look in the mirror, and it was special for Dipper.
"Where are you off to, Dip? You forgot something." Paisley waved Dipper's wand tauntingly in her face, and pulled it away before Wren could snatch it. "I'll be needing a bit of information first, before you can have this. Where are you off to?"

"You forgot something." Wren groaned as Paisley waved her wand around in her face. How had she forgotten to grab it? Before she could do anything she pulled the wand away. "I'll be needing a bit of information first, before you can have this. Where are you off to?"
"That doesn't matter, now give it back." she lunged for the wand but missed badly. Of course she has to be on my right side. She thought annoyedly. That was her blind side which made it harder to see. However, she was glad that Paisley didn't know about it yet. She must be really unobservant to not see that my eyes are different colors. Perhaps she hadn't noticed because of all the chaos on their first meeting, but she pushed away the thought as it was not important at the moment. Right now she just had to get her wand back. She stepped forward to grab it but Paisley pulled it away again.
"Come on, Needles. What are you expecting me to do?" she sighed, "Fine, I'll make a deal. I tell you what I'm doing and you go back to the dormitory?" The Gryffindor was a silent for a moment, no doubt thinking about the offer. Wren was beginning to get annoyed with her. It's obvious that she doesn't like me, so why is she so persistent in sticking near me?
"Just leave me alone." said Wren, turning her head to get a better look at her annoying companion. She realized a second to late that she had just put her odd colored eye in plain sight.

Paisley didn't ever mention the odd colored yees I had to keep this hilarious typo that were bestowed upon Dipper's eyes, but she had noticed it before many times. Dipper always seemed to turn away before Paisley could get a good look, and it wasn't Paisley priority to figure out what it was. At this moment, all Paisley need worry about was the fact that the entire staff team could be watching them break the rules, and they were just standing there like idiots.
When she noticed Wren turned directly to her, revealing her eye for the first time, Paisley startled for a moment, and then composed herself. it wasn't her place to go asking about things like that. It would embarrass Dipper and Paisley both. Neither of them wanted that; Paisley was sure of it. They were still human. No, you're not. You're a stupid wolf.
"Fine, I'll make a deal. I tell you what I'm doing and you go back to the dormitory?" Paisley laughed out loud. "Dismissing me won't work, Dippy. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm coming. After all, I'm a fellow Gryffindor. We're teammates, aren't we?"
Paisley was one of those people. The people that weren't afraid to randomly hug or show other physical exuberance, like wrapping their arms around someone else's shoulders. This is exactly what she did to Dipper upon saying the words "aren't we?". She put her arm in a large, cheerful squeeze around Dipper's shoulders, and then let go, putting the smiling facade back on her face. It hurt to act to happy around the girl she disliked most, but curiosity had gotten the best of her.
"So, where are we off to? The forbidden forest? The great lake? How about the dorm, I'm freezing. Well, you're the boss. Lead the way!" Paisley bowed, extending her hand out to let Wren through. Paisley clasped her wand behind her back, shaking it around a little to taunt Wren.

"We're teammates, right?"
I wouldn't exactly consider us that. Wren was now trying really hard to hide her annoyance now. Paisley persistence in being "friends" was getting more obnoxious by the second. All she was doing was taunting her. And it didn't get much better from there. Wren took a step back as the Gryffindor approached her, arms open. She stood awkwardly still as Paisley hugged her yet again. It looked as if someone had used "petrificus totalus" and her companion was upset.
"So, where are we off to?" started Paisley. Wren gave herself a little shake as she was released. "The forbidden forest? The great lake? How about the dorm, I'm freezing. Well, you're the boss. Lead the way!" The Gryffindor bowed down, extending her arm and waving the wand behind her back. Wren resisted the urge to snatch it from her hands and started walking towards the forbidden forest. She had wanted to go there for a while, so she felt this was the best night to do it. Maybe Paisley will get scared and go back. She had wanted to practice magic in there, away from any watching eyes that might get her in trouble, but with the unpredicted complication there had been a change of plans.
"If you're cold, then go back to the dormitory." she instantly knew there was no point in saying this, but it didn't matter. Her mind was working furiously on a plan to get her wand back and Paisley away from her. Deciding it was developed enough, she put her plan into action.
"Alright, come on. We're going to the forbidden forest." she said. She held her hands behind her back, showing that she had no fear. She didn't need a wand to protect herself. At least that's what she thinks.

"Oh, ok!" Paisley's face paled and her voice came out strangely high-pitched. She continued to follow Wren as she walked to the Forest, but she couldn't stand it once she saw they were really getting close. The cold, wet grass was making her entire body yearn for the warm dormitory, and she wondered why she had even come out here in the first place. So that she could go with Wren to do something she didn't want to do, and that also frightened her silly? That didn't make sense! That didn't make any sense at all!
She could just turn around now and go back inside. No, Dipper will mock me for the rest of our lives! You have to go with her. It's just trees. That's it. Just trees. The thought soothed Paisley for awhile, but she tensed up again as she remembered something. Well, it's trees and monsters that could rip you to shreds in about a split second. Paisley didn't know if this was an official fact or not, but it didn't matter. At that moment, all that mattered was that she stopped Wren from going into the forbidden forest.
And so Paisley continued. She continued until they were on the very edge of the trees, where a few small ones were sprouting up on the outskirts, instead of deep within the forest. What if we die in there? What if we get attacked by something? What if a teacher sees us right now and tells us that if we move another muscle, we'll get detention? Gosh, I'd freeze to death! Please Dippy, don't make me go in there! Paisley's palms were clammy and her heart was beating fast. She didn't know who she was anymore! She was the girl who was going
"Stop. Are you sure you want to do this?" asked Paisley, grabbing Wren's elbow and spinning her around. She was surprised at how light Dipper was. "This is life-threateningly dangerous. We could really get hurt. No more tomfoolery." Paisley said seriously.

Wren continued walking towards the dark forest, her Gryffindor companion right behind her. She could tell that Paisley was debating go back, judging by how quiet she was, but she didn't care. She had a plan to get her wand back, and this way would be much more fun than just having her go back to the dormitory. She continued down the gentle slope, all the while making sure that Paisley was following her.
"Stop! Are you sure you want this?" came Paisley's stern voice. She felt herself lurch backwards as the Gryffindor grabbed her elbow and spun her around. Wren was surprised by how strong the girl was, and no matter how hard she pulled she could not loosen herself from her grip.
"This is life-threatening dangerous. We could really get hurt. No more tomfoolery." said Paisley. Her voice was so serious that it caught Wren by surprise.
"Needles, let go! If it..." she trailed off, hoping that Paisley hadn't heard what she'd just done. She can't know that. Not yet, at least. She had done so well in controlling her parseltongue around the girl, but in her shock she had forgotten. Slipping from the Gryffindors grip, she took a step back and looked behind them. They were right on the edge of the forest now. Time to put the plan into action.
"If you want it back you got to catch me." she said abruptly. Lunging for both their wands, she grabbed them and bolted to the nearest. Wands still in her hand, she leaped onto the first branch and swiftly worked her way into the tree. She could see Paisley below her, and Wren decided to put the next part of her plan into action. Aware that the Gryffindor was probably not as good a climber as she was, she felt it was safe enough to only be a couple branches off the ground. Sitting on the branch, she slipped her wand into her pocket and waved Paisley's in the air. It felt strange in her hand, and even though she'd only been holding it for a second she missed her own.
"It's to bad you're not very fast." said Wren, her signature smirk etched onto her face. She felt the wand brush against the bark of the tree as she waved it around, followed by an odd noise. Paper? Turning her gaze from Paisley, she looked over to the part of the tree that the wand had hit. There was a little cavity in the tree, and inside was a light, circular object. Momentarily forgetting that Paisley was at the bottom of the tree, she slipped her hand into small hole and pulled out the object. She instantly recognized it as a scroll.

"Hey!" Paisley lunged for her wand, but Wren was already scrambling up a tree. Gosh, doesn't she know there's hags in there? She's not afraid of anything! despite her annoyance, Paisley was impressed. Dipper was running into danger like it was no big deal, head first.
Paisley was momentarily brought out of "You idiot! Get down from there! You're going to hurt yourself! Then how will I bring you to the hospital wing? Are you even listening to me! Get down!" she screeched, and then peered around, lowering her voice. She hoped no one could hear them from inside. Paisley wasn't loud, but her voice tended to carry.
Paisley ran over to the tree, pulling her wand from Wren's hand as she wrestled with something else. She picked up her wand, ready to cast. "Lumos!" she said, and Dipper's position was illuminated.
"What the heck is that?" she asked when she saw Wren scrambling around with a scroll. She leapt up, trying to grab her enemy's leg. She missed terribly, causing her to slip on the wet root of a tree and hit her head on the ground. It wasn't hard, but it hit the bruises she had created when speaking with Akari. "Ouch!" she didn't see what happened next because of the stars dancing in her eyes, but the next thing she saw was Dipper, lying on the ground, unmoving.
"Dipper! Are you dead!?" for a moment Paisley thought her housemate had died, and it was terrifying. It was only until she saw the soft rising and falling of her chest she was able to go over to her. With her knees dragging through the dirt and her breath coming in shakily, she ran her wand light all over Dipper, making sure nothing was broken. "Are you okay?"

The feel of the hard wood beneath her feet vanished. She was aware of something grab her ankle, then the feel of nothing around or under her, and the sudden hard root against the back of her head. For a moment all she saw was the sky, dark and filled with stars, then everything was gone.
"... Are you dead!?" Paisleys voice sounded next to her as she opened her eyes. The girl was hovering above her, worry filling her eyes. Wren realized that she must have been unconscious, but it couldn't have been for more than a couple seconds. That explains why my head hurts.
"Yes, I'm fine. Get off of me." she said, pushing the girls hair out of her face and sitting up. Rubbing the back of her head, she tried to recall what had happened. She knew that she had been up in the tree, and something had pulled her down. It must have been Paisley.
"Where's my wand?" asked Wren suddenly, remembering that it had been in her pocket when she was in the tree. Oh no, please don't let it be broken.
"Here." said Paisley, holding up her wand, which was still lit from earlier. The dark floor of the forest was suddenly illuminated. The light bounced off the trees, the few trees on the ground, and... Good, my wand. She quickly picked it up and examined it. Nothing seemed to be broken or damaged, so she placed it safely in her pocket. Something cold and smooth brushed against her hand, reminding Wren of the scroll she'd found in the tree. Slipping it out of her pocket, she examined it under the light of Paisley's wand. It was a diagram, with five crystals placed perfectly in a circle. Each one was a different color, with a single word written in each one though the handwriting was so smudged it was impossible to read. In the middle of the circle it said, "Adwa." Must be a different language, she thought while Paisley looked at it. There was more writing at the top, but it was just as unreadable as the writing on the crystals.
For a moment Wren wasn't sure what to do with it. It seemed important, but she wasn't sure anyone would let them keep it if they knew they had it. "Let's keep it a secret." she said, "Let's figure this out together. I know we don't work well together but it's the only way to figure this out. Deal?" Paisley stood still for a moment, then nodded.
"Okay. Now let's go back to the dormitory!" said Paisley, standing up and heading back towards the castle. Placing the scroll back inside her pocket, Wren followed.
