"Hey Scarlett!"
Lucia grinned at her friend. Although the two weren't even in the same house, the Hufflepuff definitely counted Scarlett among her friends, and it was great to see someone she knew.
Scarlett introduced herself to the other girl (prompting several seconds of Lucia wondering whether she should have said her last name, year and house as well), and then hurried after the retreating bob of fizzy black hair.
"I, um... Merlin, alright then," Lucia replied, and followed the Gryffindor, keeping behind her mane of red hair.
The mention of money hit home - but with the wrong person. Lucia winced. She certainly wouldn't want that to be directed at her, and right now could only be pleased that the only Aden child was on her side.
Unsure what, exactly, she was supposed to say in this sort of awkward situation, Lucia reluctantly stepped out of her friend's shadow.
"I mean, if you don't mind us saying hi..." she added, seemingly the only person of the three being polite.
Bending down to look at the cat sat next to the boy's feet, Lucia smiled at it. "Hi..." she murmured, and tentively stretched out a hand to tickle its head.
It seemed to look at her with an air of 'Hello, human. Seeing as I am ruler here, you might as well play at being the peasant.' Lucia grinned at it.
"What's it's name?" the Hufflepuff asked, tilting her head upwards to look at the boy who seemed to be the cat's owner.
It was so... what was the word? Somewhere between cute and regal - Lucia's heart melted. Why, she was almost Willow by this point.

Lana's life had been bleak lately, filled with little to no excitement in comparison to her first year at Hogwarts. She often sat in her dormitory and reminisced over the fulfilling memories she once had; things like meeting Gem and soon after setting her mother's letter on fire with him, the way she stayed up and read books until the sun would come up and then have to drag herself to class, and the rest of the moments she longed to go back and relive.

Over the summer she had become distant, though, leaving her with barely enough will power to even attend class anymore. She wasn't depressed per say, more so just angrier and much more rude. She was aware her personality had become brat like, though she didn't bother to change it. She had come to enjoy others hating her, unsure as to why.
Regardless, she found the flier advertising a pet washing errand down by the great hall mildly interesting. Enough to actually persuade her to go at least.

To be quite honest she wasn't even that fond of pets, let alone washing them. She planned on just going down to the area and taking a glance at everything, perhaps even earning a few points for making it look as if she was participating. Though as she opened the door, there were much more people than she had expected. Lana hadn't really been able to recognize anyone in the classroom except for the Ravenclaw prefect standing in the midst of it all, and even so she couldn't remember his name.

She entered the room slowly, waving to no one in particular. She had the option to be nice and get through with this, or to be an absolute jerk and ruin the fun for everyone. She looked at the students once again and lowered her eyes, realizing it wasn't her place to ruin anyone's day.

Her eyes darted towards a cat, one which looked as if it were a snow leopard. It's fur pattern was elegant, causing Lana to faintly smile as she stepped towards it and their owner. There were other students around him, unsure whether to introduce herself to just him or everyone at once. She hadn't known the boy's name, causing her to lean down and pet the cat instead, looking back up at them.
"He's really cute.. What's their name?" She asked as she returned her gaze to the soft feline, scratching behind its ear gently.

Robert wasn't quite sure what he was doing here. He'd never really had many interactions with animals, his father's allergies always seeming to affect the rest of the Toukmonds just as much as they did him. Robert's father had always immediately cut off ties with anyone who admitted to having a pet, or even if they just had a couple of cat hairs on their shirt. It made sense, of course. Thomas Toukmond was so allergic to most hairy animals that even being in the same room as them was enough to send him to a hospital.

The first-year had always assumed that he didn't like animals, even without have much, really any, interaction with them. All they did was poop, shed, and eat, right? In Robert's eyes, they seemed like a lot of responsibility for so little reward. This entire errand was proof of that. People were willing to give up their Saturday morning to clean some animals. As a reward for their hard work, the animals would then go back to their regularly scheduled lives of pooping, shedding, and eating. What was there to like? However, after seeing the poster for this event and how excited everyone else seemed about it, the Ravenclaw thought he'd give the animals a chance.

After breakfast, he made his way up to the second floor, where he easily found a classroom that was normally empty, but was presently filled with people, pets, and grooming supplies. He stopped, just outside the classroom, steeling himself for what lay inside. Robert was not a rule breaker, and even though interacting with animals wasn't a rule at Hogwarts, it had been for so long that he had to forcibly remind himself that his father wasn't here.

Robert finally mustered the courage to walk through the door, and was immediately bombarded with the overpowering stench of animals. Never having smelled anything similar before, it hit him harder than it would most people. Leaning against the wall for a second, he waited until he'd gotten used to the smell before moving on. He pushed off the wall and looked around the room, searching for a familiar face. He saw Henry Knight and Pericles Dralt, but both of them seemed to be already engaged with other people. Looking around, the first-year searched for someone else with a pet he could interact with.

His gaze fell on a boy holding one of the strangest, most adorable animals Robert had ever seen. It looked like a little ball of happy, pink, fluff. The muggle-born couldn't help but smile just looking at it. Robert could only assume that it was an animal unique to the wizarding world, as he'd never even heard of something similar before. Robert carefully walked over to the boy, making a point of consciously looking out for obstacles on the floor, for once. He successfully managed to avoid a brush, two cats, and a couple humans before finally reaching his target. Smiling at the seated boy, the first-year introduced himself. "Hey, I'm Robert." he started to extend a hand to shake, but immediately retracted it after seeing that the other boy's hands were already busy with his pet. Instead, Robert settled for keeping his hands at his side, unsure of what to do with them. "Erm, he's really cute," the muggle-born said, nodding at the unfamiliar creature in the boy's lap. "What's he called?"

It was Saturday and Carolyn couldn’t imagine spending it in a better way than pampering her new pet. The silver Egyptian Mau was currently walking right by her side as if he was a well-trained dog. It was actually surprisingly easy to teach him. Mordred had seen the young witch do the same with Morgana and he immediately wanted to prove he could do it too. After all, if the dog could it so could he. Thankfully, Carolyn’s Belgian Sheepdog didn’t seem to mind the intrusion. She was smart enough not to bother the new and slightly wilder addition to her family and occasionally, he was fun to play with. Overall, they got along pretty well. This and the fact that Mordred didn’t like parting with his witch helped to teach him not to stray away from her. The young Ravenclaw had a leash on her at all times but she hardly ever used it. Still, she did get him a violet collar with his and her own name just in case the unthinkable happened.

When Carolyn walked into the classroom, there were already several people and pets in it. Most of the pets being cats. This was exactly what she hoped for. Mordred was fairly well groomed already but he never got to interact with other cats. He got used to their dog and got acquainted with the occasional owl visits but no cat playdates so far. Carolyn was really hoping to give him a chance for some well-needed socialisation. She already knew he was very choosy when it came to people but she wasn’t quite sure about other cats. Well, I suppose it's time to find out. Though the girl appeared very calm on the outside, she herself dreaded the socialisation. Thankfully, she already saw some familiar faces in the crowd. The witch knew Henry from several interactions by now and she also met Alan during the summer camp and briefly met Lyra in the Ballroom. Then there was her prefect of course. They never really talked so she wasn’t sure whether he would know her but she did remember seeing him around. He seemed like a nice guy, especially since he obviously liked animals, which was a good indication of one's character in Carolyn's book.

For a moment or two, the girl hesitated. There seemed to be some commotion going on and she wasn’t sure whether she wanted to join in. Mordred was sitting by her side patiently waiting; he noticed Henry and meowed in his direction. “I know, should we say hello?” She questioned her furry friend. Unfortunately, just as she was about to start walking again, something else seemed to grab Mordred’s attention. His ears went completely upright and his tail started twitching. This usually happened when he wanted to play. What is it? Carolyn thought curiously, following her cat’s line of sight. Oh, no! She realised quite quickly, what was going on. There was a fluffy pygmy puff rolling around the table, eventually ending up safely in their owner’s hands. Carolyn knew what those were despite never interacting with one but Mordred had no idea. He was pretty much hidden in the dark corner of the Magical Menagerie when she bought him and so the little thing probably looked like a toy to him. He was already preparing to jump when Carolyn stopped him. “Mordred, NO!” She was usually not someone to bring attention to herself but this time, there was no avoiding it. She just hoped the boys sitting at the table weren’t too surprised. “I’m so sorry. He has never seen one of those before…,” she apologised to the owner and the younger boy that was sitting with him. “Adorable by the way,” she added with smile. Mordred was already sitting by her side looking a bit guilty. It was not his fault however so there was no reason to reprimand him further. Rather, she wanted him to understand why he couldn’t play with the “ball” like he could at home. “Umm…do you think he would be too scared to meet my cat? I would like to introduce him to pygmy puffs. I’m sure he will meet some around Hogwarts so he should understand how to behave around them. I promise I'll make sure he behaves,” she asked the boy hesitantly. She would not approach the table before he allowed her to do so and she would understand if he didn’t. Mordred did listen to her perfectly but her classmate didn’t know that and if his pet was easily scared then it wouldn't be good to force him.

"Chief, I am not forcing you to come with me. However, I can technically only participate if I bring a pet along. So get over it please?" Lizzie asked looking towards the Pygmy Puff on her shoulder. He was her favorite birthday present she had ever been given. It was almost a surprise when her Grandmother decided to get her a pet instead of some old stinky clothes like almost every other year. Chief squeaked and pulled a small angry face before doing doing a small huff and turning away from Lizzie.

She took a sigh and smiled while walking into the classroom. It was already full of people but Lizzie could not see anyone who she had already interacted with also the sole plan was to get in, do the errand and leave. Both the girl and the Pygmy Puff had plans to make. If they wanted to have fun in the dorm and make silly faces at each other, they would have to finish quickly.

Turning towards a table with all the equipment she needed, Lizzie hurried over and rolled her beautiful purple Pygmy Puff onto the table. He wobbled a bit while making a confused face and then squeaked loudly before rolling around on the table even more. Chief always loved to make a scene about everything and had to make everything about him. He was exactly like Lizzie just in the form of a ball of fluff.

"Come on. Hold still!" Lizzie said while grabbing the nail clippers and growling under her breath. She kept darting her hand out as Chief rolled around the table still acting like he was in his own action film as a James Bond character. It was quite impressive to see that he could go on for more than five minutes. "Chief! Stay still!" She raised her voice while furrowing her eyebrows. Her little pet could defiantly be a little pest and sometimes that was not a good idea.

Another sigh left Lizzie's lips as she closed her eyes and rested her arms on the table. She would not be able to do that on her own and defiantly needed help from someone who could hold Chief still long enough to cut hit nails and brush his hair. It was going to be nearly impossible by herself.

"Maybe I should ask someone for help." She said looking around pouting and crossing her arms. No one caught her eye as she scanned every corner. It was either she wait for someone to come to her or she puts up with the mischievous puff's antics. The latter seemed like the better idea as the girl picked up her head and squinted her eyes trying to catch her pet.

She opened her hand and slammed it onto the table shaking the Purple fluff off course and sending him into a spinning fit. She grinned and grabbed Chief before he could get away again. "You can't get away from me now!" She whispered while lifting up his fire and starting to clip off his nails. They had grown quite long and it was not a surprise Lizzie had scratches all over her shoulders. She had even got an explain on how random bruises appeared on her body when she had woken up one night to Chief rolling and jumping on her leg. If Chief was ever left alone no one would know what terrible plans he could create. At times Lizzie hated her pet but she always knew that he would have a special place in her heart.

Nell walked inside the bustling classroom. Words could not express her love for animals. Nell grew up with two cats in her house, who had since passed due to old age. She loved them dearly and it was hard for the young girl to understand that they weren't there anymore. As she grew older, she began to understand but her family had never gotten another pet. Nell was extremely excited to finally be able to go through the same process of cleaning her pet yet again.

This time, however, there were more than cats. There were Pygmy Puffs, Toads or frogs, and many more. Problem was, Nell didn't have a pet to pamper. She had hopes that someone would let her help, and she had hopes that she could have a pet soon. She glanced around the room only to see other students already tending to the pets. She frowned and sighed. She had no one to do this with nor did she even have a pet to clean and all.

The second year made her way to a chair and took a seat, glancing around the room again. It was then she saw another girl enter the room. Nell made her way over, seeing as the girl didn't have a pet either, hoping that they could both look for someone who needed help with their pet.

Henry reach to pick up Sherlock but the cat seem to have a mind of his own as he bounded off the desk and toward the entrance of the classroom where two other girls seem to enter and frighten Sherlock off to another desk on the other side of the room. Henry gave the two the girls a quick smile before jogging after Sherlock who was now hiding underneath the desk. Henry bended down and sat on his knees as he tried to coax the mischievous cat out, " come here, Sherlock. Here kitty, kitty," Henry tapped the group a bit with his fingernails in hope that would help him come out as he continued his calling " come here Sherlock, come on. Come here boy, don't you want a treat, come here please."

As Henry was pleading with the cat to come to him, a few others entered the room which filled the room which Henry wasn't aware of. Finally after a few minutes, Sherlock seemed to have gotten bored as he came out from under the desk just a few inches which was enough got Henry to reach in and grab him. Henry did got up from the group slowly as he scratched Sherlock behind the ears and said " you are truly a mischievous cat, Sherlock," Henry then made the mistake of walking past the entrance of the classroom and back to his spot which now had someone next to him a blonde hair girl whim Henry didn't know and her Pygmy Puff who she was having a hard time trying to clip their nails. Henry thought about giving her a hand but couldn't dwell on it for long as Sherlock squeezed himself from his gripped and jumped onto the table as he begun to talk the girl's Pygmy Puff.

Henry quickly reached for him and scooped him up, this time keeping him in a tighter grip as he spoke to the girl " sorry about that, I don't think he ever seen a Pygmy Puff before," Henry gave the girl a quick smile before leaving to another spot. Henry then saw another girl with a cat this one whom he recognized as Carolyn Hunt someone he met at the quidditch match over the summer. Seeing that she was talking to someone else already, he quickly walked over and spoke to her rather quickly " Hey Carolyn, it's nice to you again and I'm guessing that Mordred, he's definitely adorable," Henry then held the cat in his arms up a bit as he spoke " this is Sherlock, my friend's cat that I watch occasionally. If you want I could watch Mordred sometime for you to and I won't even charge," Henry laughed a bit at that last part as he looked over at the boy who she was talking to who also had a Pygmy Puff and quicky muttered " hello, your pygmy puff is cute by the way," before turning to the ravenclaw first year known as Robert Toukmond and saying rather quick to him " hello, nice to see you as well."

Henry then left the group while giving each a smile and again looking for a spot which he found rather at the end of the table as he placed Sherlock down but kept one hand on him at all times as he reach over to get a treat for him. Henry smiled at the cat as he gave him the treat which he ate in a heartbeat before starting to purr, " love me again now don't you," Henry laughed a bit before pulling a pair of nail clippers toward them and leaning forward a bit as he held Sherlock with his right arm and his right hand held Sherlock's front right paw. Henry then started to easily and carefully clip Sherlock's right front paw before moving toward his left front paw in which when he finished he smile at the cat " that wasn't that bad right," Henry then started on his back paws not really paying attention on who was there.

Lea did not have a pet, but the poster caught her attention. The girl had wanted a pet, although her parents had never been eager to get her one. She didn't understand why- the eleven year old was willing to take care of a pet. She didn't know how, but that was the nice thing about books and the internet. Or, while she was here, just books. Another thing to get used to here. Brown eyes would close as the girl sighed, walking into the second floor classroom.

It was a miracle she hadn't gotten lost.

Lea would quickly glance into the room, easily walking in when she noticed the different animals here. This was certainly where the errand was taking place- exactly where she wanted to be. Brown eyes would glance around to notice a number of cats, a few puffballs- they had some other name, she was sure- and an owl. The puffballs were certainly odd creatures, how one could even take care of them was a mystery to the young girl. Were they just a moving piece of fur? It didn't seem all that unlikely.

The owl was more interesting to the Hufflepuff. For one, she was often spending time writing letters to be sent off by owls. So she knew they were extraordinary creatures, but never had she taken care of them. Thinking back on it, perhaps the girl should've offered them some sort of treat. Were they allowed to have food like what she was served in the Great Hall? Her attention would turn towards the owl that she could see, trying to find the owner. Lea would catch a glimpse of the person, hesitantly following them over to the treat bag. Once again the girl found her throat stuck, feeling as her arms hung limply down by her sides. They would move up to play with her braids, messier than normal since she hadn't bothered to put any ribbons in.

"Um, that's your owl, right?" The girl would turn a bit to point in the direction of the owl, before glancing back up at the person. Her attention would focus more on the blond hair than actually looking up at the blue eyes. If she received some sort of confirmation that the owl was indeed the student's, then the first year would hesitantly continue on.

"They-they're very pretty. How do you-uh- care... for an owl?" There were more questions that the girl wanted to ask, but she didn't have the confidence to ramble on for any length of time. Instead she just twirled her braid around her left hand some more, a small hopeful smile on her face.

Miranda's family had never been the kind to have pets, at least, not really. Did the animals they cared for count as pets? Not in her mind, anyways. To Miranda, they were nothing but interesting specimens - look, but don't touch. Definitely don't touch. Not that she really listened to that rule anyways, but it kind of took away the feeling that they were pets, if anything else. Many years ago, her parents had brought home a crup for their children that took on the role of a family dog (which it had really looked like - Miranda's parents tended to be sticklers for the rules, and that included the law that said they had to have their tails cut off to be used as pets). But that had been so long ago that the memory was fuzzy, and the crup had been sent to a new home two or three years later because it was biting the Winged Horses.

Therefor, even though Miranda hadn't had a true pet for a long while, she'd always wanted one...just as long as it didn't end up being a cat. She really hated felines. But any of the other options for pets at Hogwarts sounded good, or at the very least tolerable (after all, she wasn't really sure what she could do with a toad). Lizards, rats, Pygmy puffs, tarantulas and owls - they all sounded interesting, and offered a small amount of companionship, which while not necessarily needed, would be nice nonetheless.

That was what had really decided her when it came to whether she wanted to attend the pet errand. On the one hand, it would offer a chance to interact with some of the pets others had, and help her decide which one she wanted when the time came to choose, and second, it would also give her money to go towards buying said animal. Everything worked out!

Although, when she finally did arrive, she very nearly turned back. There were so many cats. At least five of them, and most seemed to be glaring at her. Well, the last part could be false, but it sure felt that way.

Miranda glanced around the room, then entered quickly and placed herself next to the wall, as far away from the felines as she could. She could spot a few people she knew with the animals, but the majority were unknown to her. Maybe, if she'd been a bit braver, she would have put up with the cats long enough to introduce herself and have a conversation, but...well, she wasn't that brave just yet.

Movement on the edge of her field of vision made Miranda look up, and she spotted a girl with long brown hair and strange blue-green eyes making her way towards her. She studied the other girl warily, searching for a cat anywhere on her person, then relaxed slightly when she came up empty. Whoever it was was a stranger, but that didn't faze Miranda in the least.

"Hey there," she said with an easy smile, although her eyes continued to search the room every little while at odd intervals. "Um. I'm Miranda. And you're...?" She figured it would be better to start with introductions, because otherwise she might forget, and then wind up calling the other girl "the girl" until they met again and she could correct the mistake.

When Nell finally got to the girl, who soon introduced herself as Miranda, Nell suddenly felt awkward. Why was she approaching someone she didn't know? Very unlike her. Nevertheless, Nell was here now, so she might as well introduce herself. "I'm, uh, Nell," she said in a small voice. It was then Nell began to explain herself. "Sorry for bothering you, but I saw you had no pet either and was wondering if you'd like to look for a pet to help groom with me?" Nell said quickly. She really hoped she spoke slowly enough so that Miranda could make out what she said.

Nell really hoped this unnecessary interaction would turn out good since Nell was not good with forgetting embarrassing things. And someone rejecting a request of friendship (in a way) would be oh so embarrassing for Nell. As she waited for Miranda's approval, Nell took note that she looked to be in the same year as Nell. Well at least they had something common. She didn't really want to assume Miranda's house since, it could be awkward if she guessed wrong, and then that would make things worse... From there, Nell spiraled into a train of thoughts. she finally snapped out of it when Miranda spoke.
