Paisley couldn't believe Wren's luck. Still, with this girl it seemed as if she could never let her guard down. She decided she would help Wren out, but not without taunting her first. After all, she had done a pretty good job mocking Wren before, perhaps she could do it again!
"I-" Paisley stopped short. Wren really seemed to be in pain, and no matter how much Paisley disliked this girl, she couldn't let her suffer. "Let me help you." she said softly, and pulled Wren out. It was a long moment before Paisley had the nerve to say anything again. She had been thinking deeply about their predicament, and a few problems still popped into her head.
Now that I think about it, I think we're going the opposite direction we came from when the prefect was leading us... Paisley shook herself slightly, washing the thought away. If they just kept wandering, they would eventually find their common room, right?
"We should probably keep on going. I don't think want to hang out in one spot for too long, otherwise teachers or staff or students will probably find us." said Paisley. She continued on through the hall, her footsteps seeming to bounce off of the walls and back into her ears.
The corridor she was in was certainly not one she recognized. It was dark, and even though torches lined the walls, they gave off barely any light. The paintings here were silent, and not even a suit of armor, which would've surely helped them this time, was to be seen.
"Ok, we'll get back to the common room, settle in, and then I can forget all of this happened." said Paisley, her voice echoing ominously. It sounded strangely high-pitched. Then she stopped. If someone had been walking behind her, surely they would've bumped into her hair. The young Gryffindor turned around, panic filling her. An awful realization had come into her mind.
"Wren! We don't know the password!" the hall was so dimly lit Paisley was sure she wouldn't have seen Wren if she was only a few footsteps away. A spider crawled somewhere next to Paisley, and she flicked it off the wall.
Come on, Little Dipper! Answer me! Paisley repeated in her head over and over. There was a small light at the end of the hallway, but it was tiny; so tiny that perhaps Paisley was just imagining it. Could she really hear Wren's soft breath, or was she just imagining that too?

Wren felt a sigh of relief as Paisley helped her out. That stair plays nasty. Why do they have those. She didn't spend long thinking about this. The faster she gets it out of her mind, the better.

"We should probably keep on going. I don't think we want to hang out in one spot for too long, otherwise teachers or staff or students will probably find us." said Paisley, jumping the last stairs and heading off away from the staircase. Getting to her feet, Wren followed her. The corridor was extremely dark, with only a few torches. They barely gave off any light, and she could barely see two feet in front of her. There were barely any paintings or objects, making it feel even more deserted. Ahead, Paisley was barely more than a shadow. She was muttering something to herself, but Wren didn't bother figuring it out. There was another corridor to the left, and down it was a professor. Wren held her breath as Paisley walked out into the hall, in view of the professor. Neither seemed to be aware of what was going on around them. She breathed a sigh as the professor walked away and Paisley continued into the dark corridor, unseen. Wren was about to follow when something caught her eye. Down the corridor on the left was a large painting a lady. She wasn't asleep like the other paintings, and instead seemed to be aware of the two Gryffindors. Wren was sure that this was the common room.

"Needles! Needles, come here! I found it." she said, trying to catch her attention but Paisley was no where to be seen. Deciding she shouldn't leave the girl, she ran down the hall. It was pitch black, with only one torch at the very end of the hallway.

"Wren! We don't know the password!" said a voice just in front of her.

"Needles!" started Wren, not realizing that she was so close to her companion, "Come on, I found the common room. We'll figure out how to get in once we get there, now follow me!" Starting back down the hallway, Wren moved quickly from the dark corridor to the light one with the painting. Paisley's footsteps sounded behind her. Reaching the portrait, she instantly knew that they weren't going to get in without a password. Plan B. Slipping her wand from her pocket, Wren lodged the tip of it between the painting and the wall. Even though she hadn't yet learned it, if she could somehow set off a spark then someone in the common room might see it and let them in. Remembering the incantation from her brother, Wren started say it out loud. I wonder if this will work...
"What're you doing?" asked Paisley, warning in her voice. She was trying to keep Wren away from the portrait hole. "Wren, stop it, you're-" it was too late. The spell had been cast, and Paisley was flung backwards.

The force of the spell was enough to have the light on the ceiling fall down and shatter. Paisley got thrown back at the same instance, and almost fall down the stairs. The Gryffindor had lost sight of everything, she wasn't sure where she was. All she knew was that a staircase was behind her and above her was chaos. Please let Wren be alright, I don't want her dead! Paisley pleaded. She hated Little Dipper, yes, but she didn't want her dead!
Paisley had watched as the paintings around the Fat Lady fell off one by one. She covered her head, and rolled to the side as one almost hit her. Her hair was flung all aorund and she would've have seen someone if they were right in front of her, shouting her name.Oh good gosh, how has a teacher not found us yet? she wondered, praying someone wouldn't hear the noise, although it was probably likely the whole school could hear it.
She fell over and tumbled down the staircase, which began to move. "No!" she yelled. She grabbed onto the railing that was still attached to the common room and pleaded with all her heart that Little Dipper was somewhere. "Dipper! A little bit of help?" she called, and then turned. Wren was no where to be seen.

"Come on Little Dipper! Help me!" Paisley started to lose her grasp on the railing. the staircase was moving too strongly. You're going to be lost again, but this time you'll be alone. Paisley groped desperately at the railing until she felt as if her arms were going to come off, but it didn't work. She thought about giving up, but a cold hard determination built up inside of her. "Little Dipper!" she yelled one last time, and let the staircase go.

"Wait Paisley, don't...!" She didn't have time to finish her sentence. Paisley grabbed her arm as the spell was being cast. The force of the spell knocked her backwards, and she instantly knew this was bad. Wren felt herself being flung to the right, and she quickly pulled in her arms and legs so as not to hurt herself. She stopped herself from closing her eyes so she could see if there was anything to grab onto, to stop herself from rolling any farther. She gasped as she caught a glimpse of the railing above, and then stairs were gone from beneath her. Instinctively, from years of climbing trees, she blindly reached out her hand and grabbed the railing. She could feel her heart thumping in her chest as her fall came to a sudden halt. The sound of shattering glass sounded above her, and Wren shielded herself with her free hand as bits of broken glass rained down. The stairs went suddenly dark and the halls became eerily quiet. What just happened...

Taking a quick look around, Wren tried to make sense of all the chaos. She remembered casting the spell and having Paisley pull her arm away. She remembered the weird explosion, but everything after that was a blur. All she knew was that had been flown backwards, was rolling down the stairs, and now was hanging off the staircase not falling off because somehow she had managed to grab a hold of the edge. She was suddenly very thankful of her fast reflexes and all her years of climbing. Listening carefully, Wren tried to pick up a sound that might mean a professor was coming, but no one came. They seriously must all be deaf.

She was now struggling to keep her grip on the stairs. After all the edge was not much to hold onto. She barely had time to lift her other hand to try and grab onto to the stairs when they started moving. Wren felt her heart give a lurch as she swung to the left a little, in the direction the stairs were moving. She was dimly aware of Paisley saying something, but she was to focus on hanging on to bother listening. The stairs continued moving, and she was barely hanging on now. Please don't slip off, please don't slip off. Wren tried to try and grab on with her other hand, but was stopped once again. She almost let out a scream as the stairs came to an abrupt halt, almost causing her to go flying. This is nothing like tree climbing! Trees don't move, they shouldn't move! Trees should take over the job of these stairs. Much less dangerous and way easier! Grunting slightly, Wren swung her other hand upwards and grabbed onto the railing.

Pulling herself up was a struggle, as all the surfaces on the stairs were either hard and pointy or smooth and slippery. Twice she slipped, and by the time she had pulled herself over the railing her hands were throbbing. She couldn't believe her rotten luck. First the whole thing with Needles, then getting stuck in a weird stair, and now this. I'll be surprised if I have hands the next morning. She barely took a second to breath before getting off of the stairs and onto a platform. Taking a breath, she looked around for the portrait into the common room. It didn't take long to locate it. All the pictures around it looked freaked out and unsure of what had happened. One of them seemed to be scolding Wren, and others were running frantically between paintings. The light that was hanging from the ceiling was now on the ground, broken into a million pieces that coated the staircase she had just been on. She had no idea how she got away from the fountain of glass with only a few cuts, which she was barely aware of since her adrenaline was still going. Spotting another staircase down to the common room entrance. Wren bolted down it quickly, not wanting to risk the stairs moving on her again. Oh great, now what? We don't know the password.

"Needles?" called Wren, suddenly remembering her Gryffindor companion.

Paisley was isolated on a different staircase. "Wren, I'm up here! What am I supposed to do? called Paisley, and suddenly she was reminded of the two guys from Greek mythology. What were their names? They were small, tiny thieves that ran around messing things up. She came to the painful realization that they were disturbing the whole school. They were as good as those dudes, who she couldn't remember the names of.
That was when she saw it. It was a small, flicker of an idea. She knew how to get down off of this staircase. All it would take was a Leap of Faith, and just a tiny bit of insanity.
Alright, Paisley. You can do this. This is to get back to the common room. "I'm coming down Little Dip!" she whooped, and slid down the railing. She was well aware she was going to fall off of the staircase-if she did it wrong. If she did it right, she would get onto the staircase Dipper was on, causing her to get back to the common room with no harm down. (Other than the scratches on her face from the broken glass, but those she could barely feel at all) Paisley was glad she had her robe to protect her arms and legs from the glass.

Paisley did slide down correctly, thankfully, and she landed next to Dipper, almost tripping onto her in the process. She was out of breath and happy, and perhaps she was also a little delirious from how tired she was. She reached over and hugged Dipper, a rare sign of affection, especially when it came to Wren. "We're alive," she said breathlessly. She couldn't help but feel relieved. Suddenly realizing what she had done, she composed herself and glared at the girl in front of her. "Let's go," she said promptly, and pushed in front of Wren. She wasn't about to start liking Wren. Not yet, at least. Her gaze was stone cold as they continued up the staircase.

Wren stumbled backwards as her companion practically jumped on her. Paisley pulled her into the most suffocating hug she had felt since her brother moved out of the house. Wren didn't know what to say. There had been a prominent hatred between them over since they'd met, and they got annoyed at each other for having to hang out for 5 minutes. They just caused months of detention worth of trouble, and now she was hugging her. There must be some chemical in the air that causing everyone to go crazy or be really unobservant. The hug seemed to last for an eternity. With Paisley holding on like her life depended on it and Wren standing as rigid as a board, awkwardly giving her a pat on the back.

"Let's go." said Paisley, releasing her suddenly as though she just realized what she was doing. She pushed her way past Wren and running up the last few stairs.

"Your call, Needles." she replied, following her onto the platform in front of the portrait. Great, what now? Wren began pacing back and worth, thinking about possible ways to get in. Well I'm not casting a spell again. We know that didn't work. She cast Paisley a small glare, but she didn't know if she actually saw it. Maybe we could ask the lady in the portrait to let us in? She has to know we're students, since after all we have our robes on. Although that probably won't work... Maybe she knew Merrick? He was the only Windgazer to get in Gryffindor. Well, except for me. Darn it, I forgot about that... All her earlier annoyance about being in Gryffindor flooded back to her. And being stuck outside the common room way after hours, hands bleeding from a broken light, didn't help at all. She was just about to say something to Paisley when the portrait swung open. Wren froze mid-step, fearing it was a prefect or head of house. Cautiously looking up, as if not moving would suddenly make her invisible, she saw it was just a first year boy. His eyes flitted from one thing to another, finally resting on the broken light. Every part of his expression gave away his confusion and what liked like a hint of fear, possibly even excitement.

"Listen, long story. We're Gryffindors, just forgot the password." said Wren quickly, hoping the boy got the hint. She didn't want to relive the entire awful evening. Although if they got in trouble, she knew they would have to.

Pushing her way into the common room, Wren took a look around before heading up to the dormitory. Several chairs were placed around the room. A large, stone fireplace was against one wall and there were a few windows there are well. A staircase led to the dormitories, with girls on the left and boys on the right. Not bothering to look back to see if Paisley had come in, Wren ran up the stairs until she came to the first years room. There were many beds lined against the walls. All the fabric was a red color, and she found herself missing her favorite color, green. She quickly ran over to her bed, she could tell it was hers since her truck was right next to it, careful not to wake anyone. Her bed was right next to a window, which had a perfect view of the grounds. Pulling on her pajamas, Wren went and sat down on the on the windowsill, which had a built in seat. The moon was shining down on the lake, and she could almost feel the cold night air. She found herself wishing that she was on the first floor so she could jump out the window like she always did at her house.

Wren leaped into bed at the sound of footsteps. She pulled the curtains around her bed down just in before the door opened. She instantly knew that it was Paisley, and quickly pretended to be asleep even though the Gryffindor couldn't see through the curtains. Great. She's in the bed on the other side of the window, next to me. Could this night get any worse? Indeed, it could. She began wondering how she was going to tell her parents that she didn't get in Slytherin. I'll just figure this out in the morning. Pushing the thought away, she curled up in her blanket. The events from that evening flowing in and out of her head, woven into a strange dream that she knew would be on her mind all next morning.

Paisley was surprised Wren didn't say anything to her, but she didn't expect it. As she pushed ahead through the crowded common room, Paisley took note of her surroundings. The stitching on the furniture was wonderful, she'd have to figure out what kind it was the next morning. Ugh, the next morning. I wonder if anyone will talk to me.
Thought Paisley, walking tiredly up the stairs. She barely noticed as she collapsed on her bed. She was aware she was still in her school robes, but she honestly didn't care. She was worn out. It had been a long day, yelling and climbing over staircases and whatnot.
Paisley ran over last night's events in her head, and laughed softly into her pillow. She hated to admit it, and she would never tell anyone, but it had been strangely fun adventuring through the halls. Although she had been terribly frightened, there had been something there she had never experienced. She had gotten joy out of being scared. It was surreal and different.
"Night, Dipper." Paisley muttered quietly. It was so soft that she was sure only she could hear it, but she meant it. Perhaps she and Dipper could be friends. Maybe they didn't have to be enemies.

But as Paisley remembered who Wren was, she shook her head. Sorry, Dipper. We can't be friends yet. Maybe next time.

Little did Paisley know, next time would be much, much worse.
