First Meeting
September 5 Morning after Breakfast
It was finally the first weekend at Hogwarts. The first few days of classes did not go well for Amelia. Any attempts at using magic only resulted in sparks coming from her wand, which unfortunately in her charms class resulted in her parchment catching on fire. All this brought back painful memories of the fire she unintentionally started at home, so after breakfast, Amelia took a walk along the grounds to clear her head.
The weather was sunny and beautiful, and Amelia was glad she got to spend today outside, rather than in a stuffy classroom, unproductively trying to use magic. She was wearing a green T-Shirt, Jeans, and Converse. She had so far had only a little luck making friends, and she was feeling a bit lonely, being in a giant castle, away from her family. Amelia thought to herself that maybe today she would have better luck making friends. It was early in the year, and there was still plenty of time.
Amelia walked around the grounds for about a half hour when someone caught her eye. She was a petite girl, with pale skin and curly brown hair, that looked to be the same age as Amelia. She was examining an interesting looking plant. Amelia thought that a girl that likes plants would probably be nice, and crouched down beside her. “Hi there, what are you doing?”

First Meeting
So the first week was over. Molly’s nerves were still all over the place but she felt like she was starting to settle in and make Hogwarts her home. Nonetheless she was pleased that there were no classes today. Some of her first lessons had gone surprisingly well, others not so great. Potions sprang to mind. Molly was also learning that reading about magic was did not necessarily prepare you for performing it.Interacting with: @Amelia McCarthy
She had woken up relatively early and Molly wasn’t too sure how she wanted to spend her Saturday. First things first, she was starving! Pulling on some tattered black jeans and a plain black hoodie, Molly stuffed her long dark curly hair into a messy bun on top of her head. Diving into her trunk she pulled out a small A5 notebook and stuffed it into the pocket of the hoodie and made her way out of the Hufflepuff common room and down to the great hall.
Whilst she ate her breakfast – toast with butter and raspberry jam she considered what she wanted to do with her Saturday. It felt strange having this free time but not being at home. Normally she would spend the weekend either in her bedroom, with her parents out and about going to movies or in front of the television watching movies but at Hogwarts it was like a whole different world. Crunching on her toast she looked up at the sky in the great hall, it looked like it was going to be a lovely day with a bright blue sky. In this moment Molly realised just how much time she had spent inside the castle walls over the past week and she had a desire to go outside and walk around the grounds, maybe do a little bit of exploring as long as she didn’t break any school rules.
Molly finished up her breakfast and then made her way out into the grounds. There weren’t many people around, she imagined most of them were still up in the common rooms. Weekends were made for lay ins after all.
As she walked enjoying the sun on her skin, she couldn’t help but smile feeling the fresh air. Molly was always so happy when she was outside, it felt like the world was endless and you never knew what you were going to discover. With this in mind she tore her eyes away from the horizon and looking at the large school grounds down to the ground at her feet. She started to notice plants that looked like nothing she had ever seen before. Was that because she was further north than Cambridge or was it because these were magical plants? This intrigued her and she stopped and bent down to take a closer look.
She began to examine the curious leaves of a small green plant. The leaves were round and nothing like she’d seen before. Molly didn’t know it but she was examining a plant called dittany. Just as her hand reached inside her pocket to pull out the small notebook there was a voice that made her jump “Hi there, what are you doing?”. Her hand fumbled with the book and it went skidding across the grass just as Molly lost her footing and landed flat on her stomach.
Mud had managed to land on her forehead and she involuntarily let out an ‘oof’ as her the impact of the landing forced the air out of her lungs. Pushing herself up she looked over to her side and saw a red headed girl about her age. ”I…I was… I was just looking” Molly stuttered feeling really embarrassed and like she had been caught doing something she wasn’t supposed to. ”I really like plants” she said lamely feeling completely and utterly humiliated. Great first impression Molly, you look like a total looser. She pushed herself up into a sitting position and looked at the other girl ”What are you doing?” Molly asked trying to distract from her clumsiness.

First Meeting
Amelia tried and failed to suppress a small chuckle at the site of the girl falling on her face. She knew it was rude to laugh, but something about the situation was so funny, she could not stop herself from chuckling. She finally composed herself, and she went down and sat next to the girl and the strange plant.
“I like plants, too.” Amelia said with a wide grin. “All this magic stuff is going over my head a bit, but at least herbology seems to be just special plants.” Amelia took a look at the strange plant the girl was examining. “I don’t think I’ve seen a plant that looks like that before. Do you know what it is?”
As Amelia looked back at the girl, she saw that she still had mud on her forehead. Amelia froze for a moment, not sure what to do. Finally she decided she couldn’t just let her walk around with mud on her face. “Oh u-um,” Amelia said nervously with a stutter. “You have some mud on your forehead, do you want me to get it for you?” As she said this she started to get closer and was holding the bottom of her T-Shirt to wipe it off, if she let her.

First Meeting
Molly heard the other girl laugh at her, she couldn't blame her, after all it must have been a truly funny sight to see an eleven year old loose there balance like and land face first in the mud. Trying to hide her embarrassment Molly smiled slightly as the redhead lowered herself down to sit next to her. "Yeah all the magic is quite intense so I thought I'd get out an explore the grounds a little." Molly said in reply to Amelia's comments. "Plants have always been a bit of a fascination for me, something I picked up from my mother." Molly admitted as she ran her fingers along the stem of the plant that both girls were looking at.Interacting with @Amelia McCarthy
"I've only ever seen muggle plants." She admitted as Amelia asked if she knew what the plant was "So I have no idea what this is, I don't think it's dangerous though." she said trying to reassure herself and Amelia too that they weren't about to get poisoned or sprout two heads or something equally unforeseen.
When Molly took her eyes of the plant and back up to the other girls face she noticed that she seemed to be frozen in place. Had Molly said something wrong? Or was this some kind of effect from the plant. Molly was about to ask if the girl was ok when she started speaking again. Of course there was still some mud on her face. Molly's face flushed as she pulled her jumper over her hand. As she was about to start scrubbing furiously at her face to remove the remnants of earth Amelia was offering assistance. Feeling it was better for the person who could actually see the mud on her face to wipe off Molly nodded "That would be great thank you.".
Once Amelia had finished wiping the mud from her skin Molly thanked her again. "I'm Molly by the way, sorry I'm not the best at making first impressions. What bought you out to the grounds this morning? I figured most people were still in the common rooms." she said pushing herself off the ground, her jeans were slightly damp from the ground that she had been sat on. She held out a hand to help her company off the ground as well.

Amelia carefully used her T-shirt to wipe the mud of of Molly’s face. Of course this made her T-Shirt quite dirty, but Amelia did not worry about that right now. Amelia was used to getting dirty, after all. Finally Amelia could see Molly’s pale complexion and chubby cheeks. “There, I think I got it all,” Amelia said with a grin.
Molly got up, and Amelia took her hand to follow her up. Molly was a bit taller than Amelia, so Amelia had to look up to talk to her. “I’m Amelia.”She said confidently. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m just enjoying being outside in the nice weather. I hate being cooped up indoors. Classes were bad enough, I’m not going to spend more time inside.”
Amelia’s tone became quieter and
nervous. “Also, I don’t have many friends, so I was hoping I’d find someone doing something interesting. Like looking at cool plants,” she said as she looked at the Dittany. “ I’ve never seen magical plants either, so they all look interesting to me. Part of me wants to eat a leaf and see what happens, but that’s probably bad.”
“I hope I’m not bothering you?” Amelia said, with even more nervousness in her voice. Molly may have thought she didn’t make a good introduction, but Amelia still felt guilty that she surprised her so much she fell in the mud. It was so hard to make friends at Hogwarts that Amelia tried to make the best impression that she could.

First Meeting
As Molly helped Amelia back onto her feet she couldn't help but notice the patch of dirt that had been left on the other girls t-shirt from where she had cleaned Molly's face. "Thank you for wiping the dirt of my face" she said gesturing to the other girls t-shirt "Some people, actually probably most people would just let me walk around looking like I'd been in a mud fight..... I'm sorry about your t-shirt"Interacting with @Amelia McCarthy
"It's nice to meet you Amelia" Molly said as the slytherin girl introduced herself. She understood Amelia's desire to escape the castle and experience the outside. During the week Molly had found it quite difficult to tell what time of day it was. Although the sunlight obviously made it's way into the castle there were times when everything felt quite suffocating just because of the intensity of classes. Molly was hoping that would calm down with time as she settled into her new schedule and life.
"I know what you mean, I like getting some air as well. When I'm at home I spend as much time outside as possible, sitting outside reading or going for walks with my parents..." she paused for a moment thinking about her mum and dad and what they would be doing together right this moment. She didn't want to appear childish in front of Amelia so she pushed her longing for her parents aside for the time being. "Have you not been enjoying classes?" Molly blurted out at Amelia's comments about class, then she felt rude and as though it wasn't any of her business. "Sorry" she apologised "I shouldn't pry."
"I don't have many friends either." Molly admitted, she'd made a few acquaintances in her first week and although the first years were in the same boat, it definitely felt intimidating. Molly let out a small giggle "Not many people consider looking at plants as interesting, in fact I've been called weird for my fascination of plants. In fact in my old school I was very unpopular because of it, but it's nice to meet someone who shares the same unique interest. " Molly looked a little worried when Amelia expressed curiosity about eating one of the leaves and shook her head. "You shouldn't eat it, we don't know what it is and it could be poisonous or cause you to grow and extra head or something"
"You're not bothering me at all. Did you want to see what else we can find?" Molly asked looking around as she had become aware that they had been stood in the same place for a while.
