She like the girl she was walking with was very excited. The girl's face was about as bright as she had seen it today. This was great, I mean she was actually making a friend! How cool was that? It was amazing how you can just bum-

"So.. What's your name? Mines Riley. Riley Arcite... And where do you wanna sit at dinner?" The girl asked Jo

This put Jo off her train of thought and made her realize that they already made their way to the great hall.

"Josette Rutledge- Jo for short, I uh... Usually, sit .." she said as she pointed reluctantly at the Slytherin table, she had nothing to be reluctant about but she just didn't know how the girl would react finding out that she was a Slytherin.

"Where do you sit Riley?" Jo asked curiously secretly hoping that she would point at the Slytherin table too. She had not sat and talked at the table with anybody yet, other than that one time at sorting ceremony.

It wasn't odd for jo's face to turn pink in a moments notice, but she yet her school mates didn't know this, she suddenly Saw head of Slytherin and remembered her speech about the secret blossom ball and turned instantly pink, she remembered the end of it and then her mind went black and she felt like she woke up just recently, wasn't that odd? She missed her friend Charles, and Adohiro, she hasn't talked to them in ages, But now she Can talk to Riley?

"Where do you sit Riley?" Jo had asked her. She examined the Slytherin table, looking at all of the students before she pointed to the Ravenclaw table. She had forgotten that Jo was a Slytherin, but she didn't really mind. She didn't really understand all of the house rivalries. Why couldn't they just all get along? It's different on the quidditch field, but why do we have to fight? She just wanted to make as many friends as she could, it doesn't matter what house they're from. Weren't they all supposed to be friends anyway? She had read about the history, and of how sometimes the houses needed to team together to be able to solve problems, but why should that be a rare thing? They should be friends all the time!

"I normally sit over at the Ravenclaw table. But I don't have anyone to sit with, You're literally the first friend I've made here.." She blushed a little bit. It was kinda embarrassing that she couldn't make friends a lot.

Riley looked over at Jo and noticed how pink she was. "You're very pink. If you don't mind me asking, why are you so pink?" She smiled a little bit, hoping to seem less nosy.

The fact that her new-made friend Riley was in another house didn't matter.

"It's alright"Jo replied smiling at her. Jo's face was starting to turn its normal pasty pale colour.

"Didn't you go to the ball? At the end of April, spring break?" she asked Riley a bit nervously, she surely was a first-year, I mean the amount of homework and how she looked all pointed to her being a first-year just like Jo. "I went, was waiting for my friend Charles- then it all went black and I "woke up" in my dorm room, don't remember anything during the 3 or so month I was 'gone'" she said her tone sadder than The girl ever heard her speak. Her friend Adohiro left the school during that time, and Charles thought that she was mad at him for arriving late... She didn't get to go home to her parents. It was a bit sad and she was still getting over it.

Jo abruptly pointed to an empty spot that she usually took at the Slytherin on the very end of the table in the somewhat well-lit corner.

"Want to sit there?" she said she was trying her hardest to forget the whole ball, she left her friends, and she was ashamed, I mean who wouldn't be?

As if she had read her mind Jo replied to Riley's thinking face. "I don't get the rivalry either, to be honest. But it could have to do something with the founding of the school..." she said crossing her arms getting a bit more comfortable.

"No, I didn't go. I didn't even know there was one, but I heard there's one coming up, and I'm super excited. But that's so weird, the blacking out thing." She nodded when Jo asked if she wanted to sit at the corner of the Slytherin table. When she heard Jo's comment on the houses, her eyes widened in surprise. "Woah! Can you read my mind? And yeah, I guess it has to do with the founding of it. It's still dumb though."She shrugged, thinking about the upcoming ball. What if she and Jo went together? That would be fun, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to go just as friends. Well. Whatever, she'd ask eventually. She hoped Jo didn't already have someone to go with though.

She sat down at the table, looking around at all the Slytherins sitting there. She felt a little nervous, because of the rumors that all Slytherins are rude, but she remembered Jo and how nice she is, so Riley figured that rumor couldn't be true.

"So there is a ball coming up soon, right? Like an autumn ball? Do you have anyone to go with? I don't... I was thinking maybe," She hesitated, nervous "You would wanna go with me to the ball?" She spit it out before she could take it back, her face flushed red.

As soon as the girl's words left her mouth Jo flushed red too, the warm air of the Great hall felt freezing against her face and her hands which started to shake a bit, normal for her but a bit of concern for people that weren't used to it. She looked at Riley, her face bright red. Jo has heard of the ball- she heard rumours and thought that it may end up like the secret blossom... I mean she lost her place on the Slytherin quidditch waitlist because of it.

With her face red and starting to cool down and her shaking a bit she nodded her head a yes. She just didn't want it to end up as the secret blossom did.

"If we go together. Please meet me at the courtyard so that we don't arrive early or late.. that ended badly last time I had somebody go to the ball with me with them being fashionable late.." her voice was trembling out of control... Why? I mean she couldn't refuse an offer from a friend, she did enjoy the girl's company a lot. This can't go wrong. The worst that could happen? She blacked out again. She after a few moments of silence went back to what she would call "Post panic phases".
She was still shaken up, but a bit calmer.

"Yeah sorry about that... I kinda had to guess. I mean- we think in a similar way so I assumed- Im sorry" she said stuttering and smiling at the girl.
She just hoped- almost prayed silently it wouldn't end like last time.

The plates before them were filling up with food and the chatter was a bit not as loud- people were heading up to bed after all. " So.. Did you know Professor Dumbledore met Grindlewald because Grindelwald's aunt lived next door and He was visiting after getting expelled from Durmstrang? I won't what he did.." She smiled at Riley. Maybe this was a start or something new.

Riley was still very flustered, but happy. "Don't worry, I'll meet you at the courtyard. I'd rather be on time anyways. I don't really understand the fashionably late thing. Oh, I'm so excited! This is amazing!" She was grinning widely, very excited. "Oh, it's fine, Yeah we do think in a similar way." She wanted to hug Jo she was so excited. And trust me, she wasn't a very touchy-huggy person, but she wanted to wrap Jo up and give her a huge bear hug. This was the first time she had ever been to a ball or anything like that.

Riley watched as people left, but she was digging into her food, hungry. "Yeah, I did hear about that. I think it's weird that Dumbledore would be friends with someone who got expelled from a school. I mean, Grindelwald is like, a murderer, right? And Dumbledore is supposed to be like the good guy, but he accepted you know who into the school and was friends with Grindelwald. I don't think he was all that great of a person." She shrugged. She knew she might get hate because she thinks Dumbledore is a bad person but that was her opinion.

Jo turned a bit red after being thrown into a hug so suddenly. She had started to shake a bit before she had the consciousness to hug Riley back. It was odd, I mean the last time a "friend" hugged her was in 2nd grade. She felt butterflies in her stomach- something that was unusual but felt all the same to Jo. She let go and said,

"Yeah, but I mean he was really young and may have had different standards of what is too bad of a reputation- And before you-know-who, Grindelwald was referred to as the darkest wizard of all time- its very odd. But I'm sure Grindelwald and Dumbledore have changed their ways to the better before dying." she said as she started to stuff her mouth full of potatoes. To Jo, this felt like they were discussing politics and then she stopped. Her face turned red. She came to the realization she thought she would never have. She liked Riley, and this friendship might last much much much longer than her old ones. It was a bit depressing but it was nice. It was nice having a friend Jo thought- no KNEW would last.

She looked at Riley, and before she had time to think or chew on it she said- "You know that Dumbledore almost went down the same path as Grindelwald?" she turned and looked back at her almost full plate. Stuipid of me to say it isn't it? Jo thought to herself. Ruined her view of Dumbledore... she kept on thinking. Maybe this wouldn't?

Riley shrugged "Yeah, but like didn't Dumbledore kill Grindelwald? I don't know, they were best friends and sure Grindelwald went evil and stuff but still. I can't imagine killing my best friend even if they were evil. I don't know. I don't like Dumbledore very much. But, wasn't he gay or something? Maybe he and Grindelwald were more than friends if ya know what I'm saying." She grinned and laughed.
"Speaking of gay. Do you know any gay people? My brothers bi. I think I am too. I used to have this huge crush on this girl at my old school. I don't know though." She smiled hopefully at Jo.

That stuff was always confusing for Riley. She had liked girls before, but also boys. She didn't know what it was until a year ago when her brother came out. She knew that had to be what she was too. She was proud of it, but she knew that could be bad. She hoped that Jo wasn't against that or anything.

"My brothers nice. He used to give me books and stuff. I love to read. I also like music, and signing. What about you, what do you like to do?"

Jo thought about the question for a moment. And replied "As long as they're happy and healthy and don't turn they preference into a disability - I mean if you go around saying nobody wants to employ you because of your preference in who you like be it same-sex or bi and then you leech off of people.. then I'm supporting you 24/7" she smiled, she had to think this through. I mean She did support them...

"I-i don't know actually... I just spend most of my time in libraries... or sleeping or looking for somebody- seems that I dont really have a hobby either then research and reading do I?" she smiled at Riley, her throat was starting to feel sore from how much she had talked that day. She somewhat massaged it, and looked down at her full plate, she didn't really eat, she always felt guilty and that it was at times bad for her, she felt full from her lunch so she just pushed it away and made room for her books.


She thought about what Riley said about her crushes..."I in my muggle school barely had time for crushes.. and didn't even have the opportunity to have one, all the boys in the class were what my "friends"- she air quoted "were off-limits and even the one time I did like a girl she then turned against me which was in no way fun..." she looked down at her book and started to flip through it, to jo this was an interesting turn to go down in this conversation but she didn't mind, it's good to have something new and intresting in her life.
