ASENOVOGRAD

Sergei was born in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria to a pureblood couple named Dimo and Natalia Yornikovych. He grew up within a strict household with his younger brother Gavrail until they could both attend Durmstrang Institute. The two siblings were rarely found apart, both of them were at each other's side through their childhood years.

Sergei acted accordingly as a big brother figure, one that Gavrail sometimes didn't always listen to. Both had headstrong personalities and they clashed with their differing opinions, but never physically. Their father made sure that they watched one another's backs, he didn't want any disgrace to befall their house if one was to falter. Both of them needed uphold themselves to their name.

SEVEN YEARS
His younger brother entered Durmstrang a year after Sergei, so the two were a year apart throughout their whole schooling. Durmstrang Institute did not have houses like the other schools despite what people might think. Instead, they were all told that they'd have to work together in order to succeed together, no one was to be left behind. It was a pack mentality and anyone who didn't comply or didn't perform up to the standard found punishment harsher than being told off. It was easy to be ostracized due to many of the students that valued a Darwinist approach, the strong would rise and the weak would be left behind.

Sergei never found himself in such a position, he wasn't the best but he was nevertheless an outstanding student. The only things he felt short with was with discipline, he was never a follower of rules and that was what made him a great student. It irked his higher ups at the school. Many suffered because of his insubordination and he got his brunt of their opinions through blood and toil. Even his family sent him letters with less than nice words, many were threats. Yet with all of this, Sergei only found himself more inclined to fight the tide.

One thing piqued his interest the most and that was becoming an Animagi, who were called Tierwerdens where he was. His curiosity had gotten the best of him and he had taken a book from Professor Vogel's desk without his permission, a book detailing the process of becoming an animagus. It wasn't long till the instructor noticed and took some time to look for his culprit, eventually finding him on the edges of The Great Forest that surrounded Durmstrang. Mandrake leaf in mouth and hunched over the book, Sergei was found by Vogel in a matter of a few hours. Aside from punishment, the Professor offered to teach the boy himself, he was the transfiguration professsor after all.
