It had been five days since Allie had arrived at Hogwarts for the first time, but she already knew the castle like the back of her hand. Exploring everywhere she was allowed to go was one of the very first things she had decided to do upon arriving, and so that's exactly what she did. At first, it had seemed like a pretty daunting task - the castle was by far the biggest place Allie had ever been in. But she had managed. . . and in the first three days, no less! But she still wasn't positive about what all the rules here were and such, which bothered her. The first year was very cautious about following the rules, so she needed someone to explain everything to her. And she meant absolutely everything.
So here she was, wandering the castle in search of someone who might be willing to help her. The day outside was quite dreary, with slight drizzles of rain every now and then. Only a few students were risking the outdoors today, but Allie wasn't one of them. Right now, she was determined to learn more about this castle that was to be her home for the rest of the school year.
Glancing around the castle, the Ravenclaw took note of where she was and the rooms around her. To her left was the Study Room, and to her right was a large window that gave a full view of the grounds a few floors below her. Seeing all the students that were here, Allie decided to stop and find someone to ask all her questions to in this corridor, instead of going any farther.
The young girl surveyed the other students around her and began to walk over to a group of girls, probably a few years older than her. "Excuse me," she began, but then another student caught her eye. It was a girl with dark brown hair, and she was standing a good distance away from Allie. The thing that had caught the Ravenclaw's eye, however, was not the figure herself, but the shiny badge that was clipped onto her robes. A Prefect, Allie thought to herself. Perfect! Moving away from the girls who she had originally started to ask her questions to, she walked over to the other girl.
"Hello," she said with a smile.

*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*Today was the 5th of September. It made no difference to her, the days were more or less the same. It happened to be a Saturday, the first one since they had arrived back at Hogwarts, and she had nothing planned. Why would she? There wasn't homework yet and she was attempting to avoid people, mainly her friends. However, if they talked to her, she doubted she would lash out. She still loved them very much, even though she was desperately trying not to care so much about them. Friendship just caused pain, right? Loving made you weak and vulnerable, left you hurting when they inevitably walked away. She couldn't be vulnerable. She was a third year now, and that meant she was stronger, surely.
Footsteps echoed around her, both her own and the ones of the people around her in the corridor. She paid no mind to them, the only thing she cared about was not bumping into them. She kept a steady pace as she made her way forwards. Some people seemed to be staying away from her. Whether this was the prefect badge she wore, potential rumours, or simply the cold and intimidating look she usually had nowadays, it was effective at keeping people away.
She eventually paused off to the side, staying out of anyone's way as she gazed out of the nearby window. it was then that some girl interrupted her peace. She stared blankly as the other student smiled and greeted her. That was the downside to a prefect badge, sometimes she forgot that she was meant to help everyone if they needed it. Her cold blue gaze and expressionless face were unwavering as she waited expectantly for the girl to get on with whatever this was. If she was another person just looking to chat, Ruby wasn't interested. Perhaps she should be rethinking her judge of character and who she approached, if that was the case. “Yes?” she asked, with only a hint of irritation in her tone.*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*

The Prefect in front of her just looked at Allie, her face expressionless for a few moments. Her gaze was icy, and suddenly the first year felt like backing away and finding someone else to talk to. But, to her surprise, she didn't walk away. Instead, she waited for a reply from the other girl. When she received it, even though it was one that didn't seem particularly inviting, she began to talk.
"You're a Prefect," she started, stating the obvious. "I mean, obviously, since that's why I came over to talk to you. . . never mind." The first year hesitated a little before continuing. "I'm a first year," she said, trying again. "And, being new here, I have a lot of questions. And since you're a Prefect, I was hoping you could answer them?" The last part of her sentence turned into a question. Allie looked up at the dark haired girl in front of her expectantly, her finger twirling a strand of her hair around, and around, and around.
After a couple beats of silence, she shrugged and opened her mouth to keep talking anyway. Prefects were supposed to help other students after all, so she thought the Slytherin wouldn't mind. "I'm Allie," she introduced herself. It would be nice to know this Prefect's name, it would be a little odd asking her all the questions she had in mind without even finding out that one thing.
