First Look
To Marcus' relief, the boats seemed relatively uneventful as they passed through the misty area of the lake. At one point, though, he picked up on the sound of someone vomiting off the side of their boat and into the lake. Disgusting. He immediately stopped breathing, knowing that the smell would do nothing for his own nausea. He looked instinctively to Nora. He had grown accustomed to the smell of her soap and cleanliness over the summer, finding it almost comforting now. Although they had become friends over the last month-and-a-half, it would be weird to ask her to come closer with no context.

Marcus settled for holding his breath for a few seconds as the boats continued on through the fog. He tested the air once it felt like they had gotten far enough away, and thankfully, he only smelled the lake water and Nora's marshmallow pumpkin perfume - something new for autumn, he imagined. As she explained a bit about the Sorting Ceremony, Marcus felt a grin tugging at his lips.

"A singing hat? Sounds like something Browne thought up," he said, slight humor in his voice. Over the summer, the caretaker had also learned a few things about the Head of Hufflepuff, like his affinity for song and dance.

It was nice once they finally exited the fog because it meant their journey was about halfway done. The boats now found themselves gliding across the very center of the Great Lake, with a spectacular view of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Even the grumpy caretaker was impressed by the sight, since he had never seen the castle from this angle. It towered over them on the mountainside, appearing very impressive with the lights and the towers and the size of it all.

If he were a good host and in a better mood, Marcus might have made an announcement to the students about how this was where they would spend the next seven years of their studies. How this castle was rich with history and would be like a second home to them. But he said none of this, opting instead to point to the cliff face below the castle. "We're headed for an underground harbor," he said to the students. He didn't want them to start freaking out as the boats continued on their path into what looked like a mountain side with ivy on it. The underground tunnel was well hidden.

It was at this moment that the occupants of boat 5 (Abigail, Orianna, Edna, Callista) would feel their boat rock significantly, although none of them would fall out because they were all seated. If they looked over the side of their boat (or if anyone else noticed), they would see a wave had passed beneath them before dissipating under the water's surface. A freak wave? A creature of some sort? Nevertheless, the boats continued gliding across the lake as the students got their first good look at the castle.

Remi remained quiet for a little bit, as the fog finally cleared up as he saw where he'll be learning at.

It looked beautiful, too beautiful. To the point where he was actually speechless, a phenomenon that rarely happens. His eyes were glued hard as his eyes flickered as he saw the lights from the castle where appeared all over the castle.

Speaking about the Castle, the building appeared to be built out from this massive mountain. He had no idea what magic, or house-elves or...

He simply didn't have a clue, but he was still stunned nevertheless! He finally piped up, when hearing his boat mates talk about classes,
"I'm going to be good at all of them. Promise Mon Papa et ma Maman (French Translation: My dad and mom) I'll get good grades. I know I'll do better than one of my sisters, she's getting home-schooled since it's too late for her to come to Hogwarts and finish her education here."
He said, ending it with a relieved smile.
"Charms, Potions, Herbology, Defense Against the Dark Arts - Sucks we can't start learning real Dark Arts until the later years, even then, they'll leave a lot of the juicy stuff out of ours books. Most likely a lot of people ruined learning about Dark Arts as they turned into Dark Wizards once they have gotten older."
Then he remembered something,
"The Durmstrang Institute, think it's more east of Europe though my European Geography is -"
He blew a wet raspberry, not at anyone, but at himself.
"Anyway, they're being taught like the real stuff. That's why my parents didn't place me in their hands, most likely."
He nodded his head a couple of times before realizing, finally stopping his rant.

'Wait, do they think I'm like, not capable like my sisters? They get taught back-home and I'm the only one who's being taught at Hogwarts.'
He thought to himself, he looked uncomfortable at the thought of it. Why Hogwarts, with all that happened here and the education, is offered compared to the other wizarding schools that the education they offered was more tangible and real.
"Uh..."
He muttered unsurely,
"Hey Logan, Starlee, and Jess. You guys thinking of trying to get onto the Quidditch teams this year?"
Remi said, curious about what they had to say.
"Papa said I'm perfect Seeker material. Small and speedy."
He nodded his head proudly.

After the little conversation about classes that interest each of them most, the kids in Boat 3 fell silent for a while. Robert ended the subject by saying that he looked forward to learning Charms most of all, but after that, he did not say anything more; so the four students went silent.

Ahead of them, in the distance, a castle was gradually coming into view; and lucky for Elisabeth, she spotted this and thus she did not have to stay in an awkward silent.

Instead, she took a careful look at the ancient-looking building. Light could be seen through its windows, but it did not seem that the light came from light bulbs or the like, as Elisabeth knew in the Muggle world. It looked like the light of candles, similar to the ones some Muggles used when their electricity went off.

"Did you guys see that!" the Latinx-Asian girl exclaimed, turning to the other three students sharing the boat with her. "Is that really our school? It's lovely!"

She faced Robert, who was sitting closest to her, and asked him politely (although, at the same time, excitedly), "Robert, please give me a hand for a while? I want to get a better look at the castle." And without really waiting for his answer or reaction, she carefully, slowly, attempted to stand.

OC note: Sorry for the long wait! And just want to clarify... Elisabeth asks Robert to help holding her so she won't fall when she stands to take a better look at Hogwarts.

Today was Lindsey's first day at Hogwarts. She had learned all about the school and sorting process from her older sister. Her sister was a sixth year this year and was a Gryffindor. Lindsey was worried about what house she would get sorted into. As she was looking for a boat, she saw that the only open one was Boat #7. Lindsey climbed into the boat and hoped for the best.

Her sister had told her that there was a giant squid that lived in the lake. Lindsey was scared that she was going to fall into the lake and have no one there to help her out. As time went on, a couple more people entered the same boat Lindsey was in. Lindsey didn't know very many people at Hogwarts yet, except for her sister's friends. She wasn't surprised to see the other people on her boat to be talking to each other. Lindsey noticed that it was probably because they were in the same compartment on the train together. Lindsey had sat with some of her sister's friends, but not in the same compartment as her sister on the train ride to Hogwarts. She didn't want to bother the other kids in their conversation, so she decided to keep to herself until they talked to her first.

Barret stumbled off the train, having no clue of what to expect. She gripped the sleeves of her new robes tensely. Her caramel brown eyes eyed every inch they could when Barret stopped to observe her new surroundings. She narrowed her eyes at the boats...This school was certainly....Peculiar....She still
wasn't sure how to feel about it.

She could still remember the day when her entire reality was shattered by the letter, the same letter that called for her to go here. It turns out magic wasn't just something that existed in fairy tales and movies. It was a real tangible thing that she apparently could do..It sort of reassured her that there was others like her. Others also were trying to figure all this stuff out and had their reality recently shattered. Her eyes surveyed the crowd as she wondered to herself how many there were...

However she was still extremely unsure about leaving her family...She'd be separated from them for months...She had never been separated for so long...Perhaps she'd have a better time figuring this magic stuff out if she had them by her side..Unfortunately she couldn't have that, hopefully the school had good cell phone service. If so she'd definitely call as soon as they got in.

Her thoughts were interrupted by being loudly instructed to go into a boat. The other students rush towards the boats.... She scrambled to one that was relatively empty...She steps in...Looking at the other girl...
"Hi there...."

Sunny got off the Hogwarts Express and stopped for a moment to absorb her new environment.
She was amazed at the crowd of diverse students getting off the Express and walking off to various directions. She was feeling a mixture of emotions as she stood and continued to observe her surroundings. She was excited about what she would learn and the memories she would have at Hogwarts. However, she was still nervous about the uncertainty and unknown challenges that lie ahead.

Sunny heard a man’s voice in the distance instructing the first years to come toward him and to leave their luggage behind. She did as she was asked and decided to walk through the crowd of students to hear his instructions. She listened intently as the man introduced himself and gave the students guidance on what to do next. Sunny soon found out that the man talking was Mr. Iwasaki, and he was Hogwarts’s caretaker. The woman standing next to him was Professor Jensen, and she was the Head of the Slytherin House. Mr. Iwasaki explained that the students would cross the Great Lake in the nearby boats, and there were to be four per boat.

After Mr. Iwasaki finished talking, the students started to make their way towards the small boats that stool still on the lake. The boats were getting filled quickly, and Sunny decided it was best to go toward the last few boats to avoid the multitude of students getting on the first few boats.

As she walked toward the boats in the back, she noticed that there were two students already seated in one of them. “Hi,” Sunny uttered softly as she got onto the boat.

When the boat was silent for a moment, he listened to the whispers of the other students, and felt the wind make him shiver. The fog was nearly gone, and they were heading for... Rohan got distracted.

He saw the castle aswell now. It was huge. It was beautiful. He nodded when Elisabeth asked if that would really be their school. It was indeed very lovely. "We're headed for an underground harbor," he heard the grumpy (or so Rohan thought he was) man tell all of the students. Luckily, what he thought earlier wasn't true, they weren't going to crash into the rocks.

Something under one of the boats caught his attention. A vague shadow underneath the surface of the lake. Rohan shuddered. He didn't like creatures that weren't human-like. When Elisabeth tried to stand up, he said (nearly shouting): "Stay seated! You don't want to fall in there... You'll get a closer look soon enough!" A tiny spark of panic sounded in his voice. He didn't like that Elisabeth was taking such risks. She should be careful.

The lights inside the castle looked really warm and welcoming, and Rohan felt the sleepiness take him over again. 'Stay awake', he told himself, 'you'll be sleeping soon enough.'

It was with great luck that Hjørdis did not have the same heightened sense of smell that her colleague did. She would have had to fight back her own vomit at the smell or thought of that. The smell of clean was very important to her, evidenced by the smell of her house or office. Had she noticed his struggles, she would have sprayed something in the air to help.

Hjørdis returned his smile with a small one of her own at his words. Whilst she had not really considered it before, it was... very true. For her, the sorting hat was just a random old hat that spoke a lot. It was mildly gross looking - just given the age of it and the thought of how many heads it had been gone (think of the lice that some of these children would have had!). But now that she had heard it, she could never forget it. It was perfect. Caradoc Browne, the head of Hufflepuff, was certainly a talker. The first years would not know it but it would not be long until they did. He was perhaps the only professor that she expected to slide through the corridor and into the doors of the Great Hall, burst into song and start dancing on the tables. Mostly because... he had done that exact scene in front of her eyes.

Hearing him sing was not uncommon by now, "Oh lord, please don't give him any ideas," She replied back, hoping that Caradoc never considered trying to enchant any objects to sing. If he succeeded in making it happen, it would be incredibly annoying, "Now that you mention it though... The hat might have been his inspiration. He did attend Hogwarts, after all," She added. After seven years of hearing the Sorting Hat sing something every year, maybe he felt inspired to do the same.

The fog cleared up - the view of the castle starting to appear in the horizon. It was perhaps one of the most beautiful views she had experienced in her time at Hogwarts. The silhouette of the castle and the mountains, the moon peeking out from behind the clouds, the gentle glow of the candles that lit up the path and the beautiful lake that glistened under the moonlight and the candlelight. It was not the school she graduated from but she did enjoy the reflection of the castle in the lake. It was always beautiful to see.

Admittedly, she was not entirely sure how happy she was being back here. Or rather, bringing more students here. Danger always seemed to lurk within the castle. But for now... In this very moment, they were safe and they were probably in awe. If all went well, this year would be far safer than the last. As the boats exited the fog, her voice spoke out, "Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," Her voice was louder than usual, so it could be heard across the boats, "Your home for the next seven years..." Although they had holidays to go back to their actual home, this school was where they would spend most of the year. This was their new home.

This was where they made their friends. This was where they learned how to control their magic. This was where they learned to stand up, work together as a team and fight whatever horrible thing that came their way. Hogwarts would teach them a lot of lessons. Whether that was the professors, their fellow students or the castle itself... was to be seen. But they would learn a lot, change and grow within these grounds because of every single encounter they were about to face. Every thing that happened now will change them. From which house they got sorted into to if they survived. She could only hope that they did.

Lindsey wasn't shocked when two other first years entered the boat she was in. All of the other boats were full, so they had nowhere else to sit. "Hi." Lindsey said to the two other first years on the boat. "My name is Lindsey. What are your names?" Lindsey asked. She figured that it would be good to make friends the first day, so that she wouldn't have to go through first year alone. She watched as the other boats in front of them began to row towards the castle. Lindsey was shocked to see that the castle was bigger than she thought. She was a bit scared to fall into the lake, but hopefully the fear would go away once they get to the castle. Lindsey wanted to be able to have friends in all four house at Hogwarts. She had heard that many bad witches and wizards had come from Slytherin, but frankly she didn't really know any bad wizards. Her sister had a couple of friends from Slytherin and she was a Gryffindor. Lindsey didn't want to know if she wanted to be in the same house as her sister. Hopefully, she made some new friends so that she wouldn't have to rely on her.

Eva was a bit surprised by Lea's answer. She always thought that most students would have an idea of what house they might be in, but she didn't push the question. If Lea didn't want to talk about houses that was ok, maybe she was just a bit nervous. Eva was a little nervous herself. What if she wasn't put into Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw like she hoped? The thought just occurred to her. Eva's parents had told her a little bit about the sorting ceremony before she left for Hogwarts. How the hat looked into your mind and sorted you into the house best for you, even if it was a house you didn't consider. What if the hat saw something she didn't and sorted her into Gryffindor or Slytherin?

Eva's thoughts of the sorting hat and Hogwarts houses were stopped abruptly as the boats slid out of the fog and they got a view of the castle for the first time. It was magnificent. It towered high up and Eva had to crane her neck up a bit to see the highest tower. Eva saw candles lighting the inside of the castle through the windows and the moonlight, peaking through the clouds, shining on the castle, made it look even more amazing. "Wow" Eva breathed out, unable to hold back her amazement.

Eva then noticed that they castle was on a cliff. How were they going to reach it? How were they going to go around the cliff? Just then the caretaker called out that they were going in an underground harbour. That relived Eva a bit.

Then out of the corner of her eye Eva saw the boat next to them rock, but when she turned her head to look she had missed the wave and watched the boat rock slowly then continue gliding smoothly on the lake. What had that been? Had a student tried to stand up, or had there been something under there boat? "Did anyone else see that..." She said to the others on boat six nodding toward boat five.

The boats continued smoothly through the lake and Eva heard the Slytherin Head of House, Professor Jensen call out; "Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Your home for the next seven years..."
