Nobody seemed to mind Ivar much, and no one gave him the frightened looks he sadly had grown accustomed to. That made Ivar quite happy, which made him grin even wider, his pearly white teeth glinting in the light of the corridor they were traversing down. He had yet to understand why people watched him with such animosity at times, true, his religion might be strange to most, and the salve around his eyes and on his ears, and his tattoos might be off putting to others… hmm, now that he thought about it that might be why. Well, he wasn’t about to change his beliefs to be looked upon with kinder eyes, he had lived like this since he was a child and now was no time to stop. Arriving at a place where he was treated without scorned eyes from the get-go was however nice. Ever after losing his job at the Norwegian Ministry he had been a wanderer without purpose, but now he might finally have found a place where he was accepted as is…

Ivar chuckled lightly to himself, he would have to put in as much work as he could to be acclimated with the other professors, give back the kindness he was receiving. Hmm, he should probably make sure to smile more, smile to the world and the world smiles back to you after all.

Thinking this Ivar started looking around the hallway they were to move down. He had always been a perceptive person so he hoped he could use that to his advantage and pick up on something. He looked for entrances, suspicious surfaces, or anything that would be out of place. Hopefully he would spot something that would be helpful to the rest of the group. Ivar loved to be helpful, that was a pillar of any good friendship after all, to help each other. He was already looking forward to being done with this dreadful task, so they could all return safely and could get to know one another better. He was a Hufflepuff after all, and valued friendships greatly. He would have to do his best to make sure nobody came in harm's way.

"by Merlin the hag is right behind you! Whatever you see, it is a LIE! I have seen the true face of horror!"

Ivar’s eyes shot up as he heard the old man in front of the group shout frantically. Where! Where was the hag!? Ivar moved his eyes frantically as he searched for their opponent. Wait! The old man looked at him?! No! Behind him, it had to be behind him! Ivar turned around instantaneously, and he pulled his axe nimbly from the iron ring that was holding it to his leather belt. “I WILL NOT LET YOU PASS-” "Eat wand wench!" Ivar wasn’t able to finish his own war cry before he felt a great weight tackle him from behind. Being taken by surprise Ivar wasn't able to withstand the weight of the man attacking him and he was pushed to the ground unceremoniously, axe in hand.

Boniface was fashionably late, as he was most times. Whether or not he should have stayed out of this one, whatever crazy adventure that his work surely wasn't paying him nearly enough for, he couldn't tell. It was too late, now, though, as he was in the dungeons, cautiously following the sound of the voices of his colleagues. It was dark, as far as Boniface could tell anyway, and night vision wasn't particularly something normal people came equipped with.

When Boniface took this job, while he was a Hogwarts alumni himself, he didn't take into consideration that he would be in constant danger. It was true that he had experienced the lasting effects of the second war, that he had managed to survive that, if even just barely, but he had been naive enough (or perhaps only reclusive enough) to have never realized that some things simply do not change. While it was true, he had been living the majority of his life thus far with the knowledge that he was a wizard, some things did surprise him. In the muggle world, his world, he didn't often find himself in grave danger. There was not a looming threat of being dead tomorrow.

Just in case, Boniface kept a few herbs tucked away in some glass bottles around his waist. There was little he could do with that, the exception of healing, but he at least felt better carrying his area of expertise on him. Unsure if he should interact or not, he stayed to the side, waiting not only to see how this would play out, but if anyone would notice him. Whatever was happening, it only felt like partially his business, but also something that was deeply rooted in the professor dynamics, which admittedly was not a part of the job application. Nonetheless, he owed something to this school and to his colleagues, so better late than never, he supposed.

Perhaps it was make believe, but Maya did not feel a sense of welcome or gratitude of being with her colleagues. The only person to pay attention to her was Jenson with a polite nod, their status still on the rocks although they solved history.

Maya, however, could care less. She wasn't here to make friends. She was here to ensure her students were safe. It was a priority. Realistically, Maya yearned for friendship, but it was not the time. Perhaps it was best that she was not close to her colleagues. Her focus was go astray if something were to happen to them if as friends, versus focusing on the fight.

Since her arrival, a few other professors have entered. Boniface, River, Béatrice, Kateri, Zahid, Marcus, Elaine, Ivar and... Lear. Maya felt a sense of guilt. Since his disappearance, she had not gone looking for him. She steadied herself with the students rather than looking for the man that she, herself, had feelings for. She studied his face. He did not look like himself from a year ago. He aged. Maya knew her choice of being with the students forced her ship to sail in ever thinking there would be something between them. She made her choice, and quite frankly, although guilty, she was glad that she was there for the students. It was, perhaps, a big change for her as she never liked to really delve into her students' lives. But this past year, she did. And it was rewarding.

Perhaps she was staring for too long. Maya looked away from Lear and looked down the eerie hallway that they were all to enter. This was it. The beginning of their adventure. No one knew what the outcome would be. Maya, about to take a step forward, stopped in her tracks.

"by Merlin the hag is right behind you!"

Maya turned her head quickly to see Lear eyeing Ivar. In a split second, the readiness of her colleagues became nonexistent.

"Eat wand wench!"

He had gone after Ivar. Maya's heart jumped. Could Ivar be what Lear claimed him to be? He was hideous looking. Weren't hags hideous? Hags... They could be anything or anyone, really. Ivar didn't really look like prince charming in comparison to the other male professors. Perhaps Lear could be right, but even in the beginning, Lear did not look as himself. Just as much change physically, there could have been a lot of change mentally.

"I think he just looks that way...," Maya said to herself, but it was loud enough for @Aleksander Ostrowski to hear as she was standing next to him. Maya wanted to interfere to stop the battle that Lear had started, but she felt that her strength wouldn't take into effect anyways. Perhaps another could help separate them.

It seemed more Professors were eager to join the growing funeral procession that was gathering in the dungeons. Most of which Aleks had experienced limited interaction with. Professor Galim, with whom he had shared a drink in the Hog's Head, stood out as someone who was currently not in a joking mood to say the least. Solomon Lear, whom Aleks had barely even seen nevermind spoken to. He had been apparently recovered shortly after the Potions Master had joined the staff. He certainly didn't look to be in fighting form, but if he wanted to throw himself into death the Pole wouldn't stop him.

Professor Karr was next, an enigmatic woman whose first real meeting with Ostrowski had been bursting into his classroom near sobbing, he still wasn't quite sure what to think of her, at the very least, she seemed capable-ish. Professor al-Benghazi ibn Masoud, Aleks couldn't really remember ever speaking to him before.

Next was the caretaker, Iwasaki. The two of them had spent the Summer camp lingering around the castle, occasionally running into one another. They were both men of few words, at least when it came to speaking to one another. The two wolves tended to avoid one another, but today they were going to have to stand at each other's backs. "I think we are the hunting hounds on this expedition Iwasaki, hope you like going first." Aleks joked to his cursed companion.

The next to enter was a Woman that Aleks had been surprised but not disturbed to see when he had joined the staff of Hogwarts. His former Dark Arts Professor had barely aged a day since he'd last seen her, and he'd hoped she wouldn't recognize him from his days as a less than attentive student, but he guessed the scars were a bit of a giveaway, or maybe her memory was just incredibly sharp. "Feels just like a lesson, Professor Pendrast." He chuckled, finally drawing his wand, as if he expected to be told off if he didn't get prepared soon. It was interesting to make not of the tone with which he addressed the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher, he seemed to give her the title of Professor out of respect, rather than the typical disassociation he usually gave to his peers.

Following that were the Professor's Eide and Lydursdattir. Both of which were similar in that Aleks had not really shared much more than a nod with either of them, which suited him perfectly fine. Professor MacTavish followed suit, they had shared brief conversations and discussions when Aleks had gone to pick up ingredients and the like, but nothing more than that.

It seemed that was all the mental processing required, he'd managed to attach faces to names which was at least commendable, now they could all focus on-...

Apparently the Headmaster attacking one of the Professors. Ostrowski heard the voice of Professor @Maya Galim quietly speaking to herself just next to him. He softly smirked and returned his gaze to the fight breaking out. "We are certainly off to a flying start." He mumbled back to her before stepping towards the pair, trying to pry the decrepit old lump off of his peer. "Chodź, dziadku..." (Come on, Grandad) "If we can't at least keep the element of surprise could we please keep our dignity?" He spoke calmly and without much care, he wasn't going to put himself in any danger if the task proved too difficult for an initial pull.

Once the situation was resolved or not he would look around at his fellow Professors, silently wishing he'd brewed some potions in preparation for this.

No time to be concerned now. He turned his blue-eyed gaze down the dark dungeon tunnel as the bright lumos orbs shot past his head. He tried to still his shaking hand as he pondered grabbing another cigarette, resisting the urge he took a tentative step forward. He took a deep sniff of the stale air, trying to catch the scent of anything that shouldn't be down here.

Rosalind had not expected her position as the professor of Divination to be work that took a toll on her body, but she had not accounted for the design of Hogwarts. Her knees ached as she finally descended the stairs to the dungeon, having made her way down from her isolated perch in the higher floors of the castle. Although she was fashionably late, she made up for it with her obvious fervor. Although the woman was usually quite twitchy, today she was unusually so, marching through the corridors like a woman on a mission with her wand clutched in her hand.

This school wasn't safe. It was not clear if it ever had been. The halls were quite literally haunted by ghosts, every student event was terrorized by outside forces, and none of them could divine a prophecy worth a damn. It was no wonder. If they could see what was coming, they would make far better decisions. One didn't need mystical foresight to know that wandering around in the dark hours and holding events outside of the purview of professors were a recipe for disaster - but what was youth without the feeling of invincibility as you recklessly charged into the next adventure?

Rosalind's reckless charging carried on long after she lost her youth. Her heavy boots thumped on the dungeon floor, heralding her arrival for the other professors. Hopefully they would know the difference between the face of a hag and the sour-faced professor by now, but if not, good. A cot in the hospital wing would be a good place clear her mind, even if just for a minute. As for now, she could hear her heart beating in her head like a bass drum, matching the pace of her march. It would not be too difficult of a task to catch up to the more hesitant professors in the front.

"I see everything is in order," she said, speaking up to announce her presence as she came upon the scene of Lear and Ivar's glorious combat. Reading the room, she determined that the frail old man nor the gremlin-ish man were a direct threat. It was reassuring to arrive to such a mess. It made her feel significantly more composed. "Are we gonna start placing bets?"

With a snarky comment out of the way, she would don a more serious expression, looking to the Slytherin head of house - someone who knew how to keep things organized and effective.

What the hell had happened to the old man while he was away? He looked...gaunt in a sense. Almost as if his old age was catching up to him rapidly. He truly had hoped that wasn't the case. He respected the old Headmaster too much for him to be going down the proverbial rabbit hole only to not be seen again. But it seemed like that was exactly what was happening to the old man. Artemis watched as Lear tackled their newest colleague, Ivar, to the ground screaming that he was a Hag. The little fight between the two wizards distracted Artemis from seeing the glare aimed his way by Hjørdis, but he could feel a slight chill run through his body from the icy look, even if he didn't know where the chill was coming from. He clearly heard his old friend mention something about a "finding another lady to kiss tonight" and it didn't sound like he meant one of the single ladies that frequented the Three Broomsticks. Artemis shrugged off the comment with a smirk and stared down the dark dungeon hallway.

More professors started showing up, even the old women, Kibitzer and Lydursdattir, came to join the fray. He hadn't seen Professor Lydursdattir since he had started teaching the year prior and glimpsed her once or twice at the summer camp, but he never had a full on conversation with her before. She rarely left her tower to socialize with the rest of the younger staff. Still, old as she may be, she definitely didn't look it and Artemis was sure not going to tempt fate and test her magic knowledge. That would be plain stupid to do so.

None of the other professors acknowledged him and it was times as these that he wished Cypress was joining them on this journey. At least she'd be a companion to talk to. But he also wondered if it wasn't for the best that she wasn't joining them...hopefully she wasn't joining them. She was a skilled wand wielder, that's for sure, as the Blossom Ball in April proved that much. But Artemis still saw her as a kid sister and didn't want her in harm's way if he could prevent it. Mentally, his fingers were crossed as he prayed to whatever magical deity that would listen that Cypress would stay in her quarters or wherever she was at until they were finished down in the dungeons.

Artemis looked back at the fight and sighed as he saw the two men tussling around the dirty floor. He felt horrible that he wasn't able to find Lear sooner. There were barely any clues though and it wasn't as if any students knew of the man's whereabouts to inform their teachers about the location of their Headmaster. Now it seeemed as if the man was off his rocker, randomly attacking people, calling them Hags, and saying people were liars. If it was one thing Artemis never did, it was lie. He may tease and pick on his colleagues as he embraced his inner child from time to time, but he was always honest. And he knew when to be serious.

This was one of those times as he took out his wand. It was a bit dark down the hallway so why not illuminate it a bit more for other to see once they managed to get the old man off the new COMC professor. And poor Ivar. Sure the guy wasn't good looking and wore a weird smile, but Artemis was sure he was a good person. Probably needed someone to talk to though. He didn't see anyone on the staff team go to venture and willingly speak to him. Maybe Artemis would change all of that after this was over.

He probably should have moved to help Lear off the ground, but Artemis had other ideas than to stop a boys brawl. He did enough of that in his classroom. He shouldn't have to do that with his boss and coworker. So he left the two men to the other professors to deal with. Moving further down the corridor, but not so far that the others couldn't see him and he couldn't see them, Artemis said, "Lumos Maxima" flicking his wand back and tossing the bright light down the darkend hall. Hopefully the squabbling would be over before the light actually flickered out. But if not, they could always cast the charm again.

Turning around, he made eye contact with Pendrast and Karr, sending both a nod in greeting as he waited to see what the next move would be.

Whelp. It seemed they were off to a good start, then. Arguing about kisses? Why? He could not quite see a connection to this endeavour so he ignored that conversation in favour of looking around and checking their surroundings.

Their headmaster looked a fright. He had expected Professor Lear to look for the worse given whatever he had endured since his disappearance almost a year ago, but it was still a surprise just how much the man had changed since the last time he had seen him – not that Zahid had seen the man particularly often, considering he had joined the faculty only months before.

One more reason to keep a close eye on their surroundings but just as he was turning away, life suddenly seemed to return to the man as he had apparently spotted the hag and yelled out to warn everyone. Following the man with his eyes, Zahid readied his wand to help defend them, only to freeze in confusion as he watched the Headmaster attempt to pummel Professor Eide (if he recalled the other professor’s name correctly. It wasn’t like they’d properly met yet.) “What the-”

Seeing as Professor Ostrowski immediately tried to intervene, Zahid merely got ready to cast an Immobulus if it proved necessary only to lower his wand in surprise at Professor Kibitzer’s statement. Everything seemed very much not in order to him. “Bets?? – Is this really the time?”

Professors seemed to dwindle from the stairs in flocks... Names and faces these people were to him, people he cared for were taken from him already a while ago. They carried the title of Professor and he hoped they excelled in whatever classes they teached because this endeavor would prove to be a difficult one or at least that was his thought on the matter. Gargott was however glad to see the Headmaster joining the group of adventurers. The old man looked far better than when the part-goblin had first laid eyes on him in his cabin.

"Any last words before we do this?"

"Instead of playing with the lights." Shooting a glance at River and Artemis. "We'd better march down the tunnel where you two encountered troubled. From there we - " Gargott got cut short as he heard the Headmaster call out a hag that had infiltrated their group. Knuckles whitened as the grip on his warmhammer tightened. Turning towards the group he saw Lear on top of one of the Professors. "Maybe the Nurse released him too soon... " After all no one knew what horrors the man had had to endure while being locked up in that closet. "I'm not sure if it was a grand idea to ask the Headmaster with us." He remarked to Caradoc. "Or someone should keep an eye on him."

As the Potions Professor tried to break both men up, Gargott suddenly noticed a woman that was near the back. She hadn't said a word and thus he hadn't noticed her earlier. The little piece of gold he had between his fingers disappeared in his pocket as Gargott made his way towards the peculiar woman. As he stood next to her he said. "So uh, what brings you to the lower parts of the castle? You come here often?"

Béatrice had not yet taken the last and final stairs, relieved to finally meet her colleagues when suddenly a skirmish was let loose. She had to look twice to recognise the man she had met when she first had entered Hogwarts. It had been a while and time certainly had taken a toll on the Headmaster, or was it whatever he had experienced during his absence?
She watched as the grown man jumped in surprise and attacked one of the others, who did nothing but stand around. Meanwhile, some of the others lifted their wands. She was relieved that they proofed to have quick thinking and tried to stop their headmaster from hurting someone. Thing were taken care of, she thought and focused on the last step, when her eyes were hit by a bright ray of light.
"What?" When she lifted her head, she saw that her colleagues did cast, but merely some additional light to the torches that were hanging on the walls anyway. Only one was stepping between Headmaster Lear and the other.
She tightened her grip around her walking stick gritting her teeth and stepped down. She glared at the headmaster whos eyes were furious. A split second she wondered if he was possessed by an evil being, but given the calmness of her colleagues, she assumed that this was not the first time the headmaster suddenly started an attack.
With wide steps, she walked past the others towards the headmaster and his unfortunate prey. Glowering at him, she took a swing with her walking stick, aiming for Lears head. "Enough now, boy. Are you out of your mind?" If he wouldn't behave, she damn sure would take him into the nearest room by his ears.

More bodies joined the party, the sight loosened the knot wedging itself in the Astronomy professor's chest. At least with more of them there would be a better chance for them to settle this issue and keep the students safe. Listening to the conversation between her colleagues and giving a nod of welcome to the last newcomers.

"Evening." She replied to the History professor as he joined. Marcus slid his way over to the other side of the hall. Elaine not too far behind and a face Kateri was not familiar with but she found intriguing as he entered with a giggle. A shame this would be her first recreational meeting with most of the other Hogwarts staff. Kateri stood off to the side of the group and observed. She hadn't been in such a dire situation before as this but knew what it was to defend her home alongside friends, family even. Eyeing each of her fellow staff members, she wondered how they would all fair. Letting out a small breath, her eyes flicked towards a sudden movement.

The Headmaster, bless his heart, had seemed to have a lapse in judgment as he flung himself at Ivar. Kateri tenses and was about to move forward to help when a loud thwack split the air. The woman's eyes flicked from one figure to another before stepping towards to feeble man, her hands up to show she meant no harm in case his thoughts had been so twisted be targeted her next.

"You're safe. You're with us, the hags aren't among us." Yet.. Her voice soft as she knelt down beside the man, now realizing how haphazardly his armor seemed to fit his frame. She looked at Lear and held out a hand should he need help to his feet. She offered a small smile, her expression softening. Maybe it was a bad idea for him to come... she didn't dare look at any of the others for fear it would make the man think she was another secret hag, scheming or sending a signal to the others.
