Match #3 Two Lions Walk Into A Gobstones Match..

Scott's hyperverbal nature was somehow simultaneously endearing and nerve-wracking. She was going to need to demand that he stop being so likable. It was just unfair for everyone at school. She was going to have to ask him to try to grow a goatee or start mansplaining things to random people or start making that annoying sound people made when they sucked their teeth, anything really to make it easier to dislike him or simply have the ability to avoid him.

Both of them managed to fail yet again and Ana was seriously considering headbutting a wall repeatedly. What did she ever do to make the universe hate her this much? Why could she not just get this over with? She chewed the inside of her bottom lip for a moment as she considered her strategy or really lack thereof. Inhaling and exhaling quickly, she decided on a change of throw, since what she had done had worked exactly once. Maybe this new throw would work a bit better and get her out of this situation. Maybe she would be able to run away and pretend life hadn't happened and hang out with her cat. That sounded amazing right then. Inhaling again, she tossed her stone.

𝓐madea listened as Scott talked. It was almost quite funny; she was the moderator of this game but somehow he was the one doing most of the talking. Amadea didn't mind this, though. Overall, talking was not one of Amadea's favorite things to do and if someone else wanted to fill the silence then she would gladly let them.

He began talking about movies; for a half-blood he was surprisingly uncultured for having a Muggle parent. Amadea shook her head and sighed. "Oh Scott," she said. "The Rescuers is about mice," she said. "You need to watch more movies. And to answer your question, no it doesn't have a gobstones scene." Any Muggle movie, for that matter, wouldn't have a gobstones scene. After all, gobstones was a wizarding game and Muggles didn't know about the wizarding world. As the talking ceased, Scott prepared for the next round. Unfortunately, maybe he was still distracted by thinking about movies or perhaps he was still thinking about dancing, but whatever the case was, his gobstone throw was too weak and landed towards the center of the ring but not near one of Ana's.

"Better luck next time!" Amadea said to him before turning to focus on Ana's throw. The girl had remained silent throughout the whole exchange and it was almost impossible to read her thoughts. Amadea hoped that she wasn't having a horrible time but then again, it was hard to tell. She tossed her stone and Amadea watched as it rolled toward the ring, and smacked against one of Scott's, knocking it out. "Good shot Ana!" Amadea said. "You're now up by two points, and you're also going first for this next round." If Ana kept this up, she had a good shot of winning the entire time.

Ana had no idea what mice or muggle movie Scott and Amadea were talking about. Still, if they were focused on that, it meant less time for her to awkwardly talk to Scott, so she didn't mind a bit. This game felt like it had been going on for months, and quite frankly, the idea of pelting her remaining gobstones at Scott and Amadea and running away was sounding more and more appealing. Scott's stone missed slightly, and she felt a little bad for him.

Her stone hit and she smiled slightly when Amadea said that she was up two points. She selected her next target and rolled her stone between her fingers as she tried to hone her focus. Inhaling for a moment, she went over the exact movements that had lead to a successful throw last round before exhaling. She bit her lip as she contemplated her next move. She had made a score earlier with a different throw, so maybe she should try that again? Or should she stick with the throw she had just done so well? Picturing the success from the last round, she decided to stick with exactly what she had done, tossing her stone daintily and carefully.

"Aye, you're killing it! Really can't see why you're not celebrating a bit more, Anastasia, you're practically driving me in the dirt. Unless you're trying to be a good sportswoman, of course... There's no need for that, though, let me tell you at least that! If it's one thing I'm used to then it's a bit of gloating. I don't think she'd punish you for it!"

Scott laughed and nodded towards Amadea, trying for the life of him to get Anastasia to say something. She was doing well! It was ironic, Scott had to admit, how this was probably the first time he'd met her personally without her tripping over her own feet. He'd thought this'd meant she was somehow feeling better, or more confident, but she wasn't giving anything away.

He was slowly starting to prefer her endearing clumsiness over this weird silence, now. Because, if for nothing else, it would at least be easier to win.

"It's only just, after all. If you're not careful I'll have to compensate by being a sore loser, and that's no fun for anybody. But I understand: it's one of our house honours, after all, isn't? Humility? No."

Scott turned to Amadea.

"No, that's yours.... Oh what am I doing!"

Scott spun around, and propelled another rock through the air.

Ana envied turtles. Not just a little. Deeply, to the depths of her soul, she envied turtles. At that moment, she would have given anything to be able to retreat into a shell. Being a mole also sounded particularly attractive, as burrowing into the ground was also a tempting idea. She would also accept a house being dropped on her. Really anything to instantly be able to escape this entire interaction.

Amadea was lovely and trying her best, but Scott just had to keep being handsome and talking. Why was his voice so nice to listen to? It was really deeply unfair. Her pale cheeks were bright pink and she was pretty sure that at this point, her entire face was just going to permanently be that shade. She laughed awkwardly at Scott's words.

She arched an eyebrow slightly when he talked about lions being even remotely humble. There were many stereotypes associated with their house, ranging from positive ones involving chivalry and bravery to significantly less positive ones involving recklessness. Humility wasn't even in the top twenty adjectives that most would think of when they thought of a Gryffindor. It occurred to her that Scott was joking and she blushed more.

After Scott threw his stone, she rolled hers between her fingers before deciding to stick with the throw that had treated her fairly well so far.
