Matrix seemed a little lost for words when Allie told him about her father, which she could understand. Whenever someone else was feeling upset, it was hard to think of the right thing to say. Especially when you hadn't ever experienced whatever was making them upset yourself. She knew what it felt like. . .
Allie listened attentively to what Matrix's favorite part about magic was. When he told her about what he had thought of spells before coming to Hogwarts, she grinned. "Yes, I could see that. It kind of is, but I agree with you. . . there are spells that can accomplish many things muggles could never dream of doing." she paused, trying to think of one on the spot, but couldn't come up with anything. "I can't exactly think of one right now though. . ." she laughed.
"How are your classes so far?" He asked her, and Allie nodded and answered.
"At the moment, my best class grade wise is Charms. I have all Os there." she said, hoping it didn't sound too much like bragging, which wasn't what she was trying to do. "And I really like the professor there too. But I like all the classes, and all of them are going pretty well." she added, raising an eyebrow at the Hufflepuff boy in front of her. "You?"
Allie was starting to see little things that Matrix had in common with her, and it was fun. She had never talked to many people her age before coming to Hogwarts, so it was pretty new to her, and yet she felt comfortable with it all. Especially with a few certain people, mostly the ones she had a lot in common with.

Allie would tell him that her best class was charms. He liked that class, as a lot of the spells he had learned there was helpful. “Yes, the Professor did seem nice” he would say agreeing with a nod. Allie would then ask him what his best class was. He did not have a best class, but not a worst one either. “Hmm, that is a hard one” Matrix would reply. “I guess I am just ok in all the classes. Not anything great though.” He would sigh, he kept telling himself to work harder, but always lost the motivation when he got a chance. “I want to get better, but I procrastinate way to much. I guess I need to work on that” Matrix would add that to his never ending list of stuff he needed to work on.
Matrix would turn towards the first years and they seemed to be ready to leave. He would wave at them, to say goodbye, but they seemed to not see him. Matrix would then look around the library. He could not see anyone but could hear footsteps. He would then turn back to Allie, with his usual smile. He must have not noticed before but Allie seemed suddenly more pretty than normal. Her brown eyes seemed to glisten if the light. He would blink, ignoring the sudden thought. “That was weird” He would think.

Matrix agreed with her about the Professor, but then had to think for a little before answering the next question, about his best class. When he did though, he did it with a small sigh, telling her that he didn't really have a best class, that he was just okay in all of them. Giving him a reassuring smile, Allie nodded. "That's alright," she told him. I mean, that's actually really good - you're doing okay in all your classes, right?" she paused as she noticed the other first years leave the library. Matrix gave them a small wave, noticing them too, but they didn't see him and left without a word in their direction.
Allie hid a grin behind her hand. Matrix was just so friendly to everyone it seemed, that was one of the things she liked about him. Looking back at the Hufflepuff boy in front of her, she noticed that his usual smile had slipped off his face for a few moments. Instead, he was looking at her strangely. . . Allie blushed slightly, and hesitated, wondering if she had done something wrong. "What is it?" she asked him, curious about what he had been thinking, and also hoping that her cheeks weren't pink anymore. "Did I. . . do something?" she said.

Allie would ask him if he was doing well in all of his classes and Matrix would nod. “Yes, more or less. I guess that is a good thing? Atleast I don’t need to worry about failing a class, or having to high expectations” He would say with a shrug. Allie did have a point, but he wanted to be above average in everything, so he would still need to work hard.
Matrix would notice that Allie noticed him looking at her so he would quickly dart his eyes to somewhere else. She would then ask him if she did something. “Oh um, no. You did not do anything” Matrix would notice a poster behind her. Matrix would sigh in relief. “I was just reading the poster!” He would say pointing behind her a little flustered. He would blush slightly, trying his best to hide it. He hoped that she would take this answer and believe it, but she was pretty smart so he doubted it. He would try to think of something to change the subject.
“So uh, do you have any hobbies?” He would ask her. It was the first thing that came to him mind. He hoped that she would not notice him trying to change the topic. He would shift a little uncomfortably in his seat and not make eye contact.

Matrix verified that he was doing well in his classes, and Allie smiled. She hadn't actually needed an answer, but she was grateful for it anyway. "Yes, that's true," she said, agreeing with his answer. "It is a little hard trying to get an O on every single piece of homework they give you." she admitted.
Matrix seemed a little nervous when she asked why he had been looking at her like that, which made Allie even more curious, to be honest. His eyes strayed to the floor, the wall behind her, everywhere but her eyes. When his eyes paused just above her head, Allie turned around quickly and noticed the poster hanging there, even before he pointed it out. Turning back to him, she saw the relief that was evident in his eyes and realized it had been an excuse. . . but seeing how uncomfortable he was, and how he kept blushing, she let it go. For now, at least.
The Hufflepuff quickly changed the subject, asking about Allie's hobbies. This was a question she could go on and on about - she had a lot of things she liked to do - but she decided to spare him and only tell him some of the more important ones. "Well, I do really love to read," she said, gesturing to the room around them, one of her favorite places to be. "If you didn't know, I keep at least four or five books in my bag at all times." Allie grinned, her eyes sparkling again.
"I also really like to write, and do schoolwork. Which isn't something a lot of people like, I know." she added quickly. "I want to be a Charms Professor when I am old enough." she couldn't remember if she had told the boy this before, but it didn't matter anyway, since she had just figured out the Charms part a bit ago. "It's funny, I think I've told everyone I've met that - maybe you should be prepared to hear it multiple times, since you're one of my closest friends here." She blushed slightly then, but really did hope that Matrix felt the same way. It would be awkward if he didn't, and also it was true for her at least.
"How about you?" This time it was Allie who decided to change the subject.

She would tell him that she liked to read, write and do schoolwork. She would then tell him that she wanted to be a Charms professor when she grew up. Matrix would nod at this. “I think you would do great at it. As you said, getting all O’s in a class is hard, so you must be really good at it!” He would say motivationally. So far it seemed like Allie did not seem to notice him changing the subject.
Allie would then tell Matrix that he was one of her best friends here in Hogwarts. “Your one of my best friends here too!” He would say with a smile. He felt comfortable talking to her and he had met her more than once, rather than other people he had met.
She would then ask him what his hobbies where. “Reading, Violin, and Hiking” He would answer promptly. They both shared the interest of reading but this was only his second time in the Library. He really needed to start coming here more often. It had great books and so far every time he came here he had met a good friend. He knew the point of the library was not to socialize, but meeting people in places of your interests can lead to them perhaps having those similar interests with you.

Allie's smile grew even wider when Matrix told her she would make a great Charms professor one day. "Thank you," she said. But she could tell that he was still a little worried that she was going to bring the subject back around to whatever he had actually been looking at earlier. It was a skill she had, reading people. It wasn't too hard to put herself in other's shoes, which made it very easy to figure out what they were feeling and thinking. Although when Matrix had been looking at her oddly, she couldn't figure it out. . .
In response to her saying that he was one of her closest friends at Hogwarts, Matrix told Allie she was one of his too. It made Allie feel good, knowing that she had at least one person she could trust. And especially since that person was Matrix, who was really friendly and fun to talk to. . . she turned back to the boy in front of her and listened as he listed some of his hobbies. "Oh, you play the violin?" she asked. "I forgot - I also play piano. But I really like the sound of a violin. . . is it hard to play?" Allie thought she remembered hearing someone tell her that violin was quite hard to learn and play well, but wanted to verify with Matrix.
Allie glanced at the time on a clock on the wall behind Matrix. It was almost lunch time, but Allie didn't say anything yet, planning to tell Matrix a little later. She wanted to keep talking with him, she really enjoyed it, and was afraid that if she mentioned the time they would both have to go.

Allie would tell him that she plays the piano and liked the sound of the violin. She would ask him if it was hard. “I guess so.....I mean, with enough time and effort you can learn it pretty easily. Since you already have learned basic music theory it should be easier.” He would say finally making eye contact. “If you ever want to learn, you know who to ask! I’m not an expert or anything, but you could learn the basics.” He would offer. “Or maybe we could do a duet with your piano!” He would say getting slightly exited, he hoped that they may be able to play with each other one day.
He would notice Allie looking behind him, she would then turn back towards him. Curiously, Matrix would also turn and see a clock on the wall behind him. It was already lunch time, but Matrix did not feel like going just yet. He would turn back to Allie not mentioning the time. She probably knew and did not want to keep her from eating, though he hoped that she would stay. He would not say anything for an awkward few seconds, seeing if Allie wanted to leave. He did not want to start a new conversation if she did want to go eat. He would sit comfortably in his chair and not reach for the book Allie had given him before, trying to signal that he was going to stay.

Matrix responded to her question about violins easily and Allie nodded. It made sense, she supposed. He finally made eye contact with her and she gave him a smile when he gave her an offer. "Thanks," she said. "Maybe, that would be fun," she added, when he mentioned doing a duet. "Do you have a favorite piece to play?" Allie noticed Matrix's excitement and smiled even wider.
Matrix followed her gaze to the clock behind him and she sighed, hoping he wouldn't take it as a sign she was leaving, which she wasn't. Luckily, he didn't say anything either, and took out the book she had given him at the beginning of their conversation. She took that as a sign that he wasn't leaving and laughed a little. "Are you going to read?" she asked. "If so, I don't want to bother you too much - I may start reading myself though." Motioning to the large bag of books in her bag and then to the shelves upon shelves of them around her, Allie waited for an answer.
She was getting a little hungry, after thinking about lunch, but she didn't bring it up. Maybe they could go to lunch together later?

Allie would ask him what his favorite piece to play was. Matrix would think for a moment before responding. “I am learning Czardas by Monti, right now. I enjoy playing it.” Matrix would say. He knew this was not what Allie was asking but there where so many great and fun pieces to play. “It’s hard to choose an all time favorite piece, it’s like choosing a favorite book, or color.“ He would say quoting her before with a small laugh.
Matrix would take his book out and Allie was going to read. She would then say that she did not want to bother him. “Oh, no” He would say putting the book down. “Your not bothering me!” He would say quickly. Allie would then motion to the plethora of books around her and say that she may start to read. “Oh, in that case, I don’t want to disturb you” He would be a little sad, he enjoyed talking to her. “I mean, if you don’t want to read, perhaps we can go and eat if your hungry?” He would offer. After he had said that he suddenly felt hungry. He hoped that Allie would join him, but respected her wishes if she wanted to stay and read.
