Chance Meeting at the Lake
@Lydia Cooper
Rook didn't sleep last night, not for long anyway. The dream had come again, him in a forest with tree's made of Darkness. The feeling of dread as a wolf chased him through the woods. No matter how fast he ran it kept getting closer and closer. in the end, it always caught him. Then, as it's fangs closed around his neck he woke up in a cold sweat. The Full moon was coming.
When the sun was finally up he threw on the first tanktop he could find, pulled on a pair of ripped up jeans, slipped into his boots and on his way out of the room he grabbed his leather jacket and slipped it on as he moved out of the Dorm. He rubbed his face a few times before sticking his hands into his pockets, hiding his nails that he sharped these days. His skin was more pale than usual, with heavy dark rings under his eyes and he was on edge. Like he always got on the days leading up to the full moon. He had more than his usual anger and energy he needed to burn. While he almost wished someone would look at him wrong this morning another detention would not be good right now. Outside to the lake it is, so he can be alone.
Once he got to the Lake he walked over towards a Lone tree, the same one he sat under alot over the last two years. The smell of the lake usually calmed him, but today it was just another irritant as the smell stuck inside of his nose. His shoulder length dark hair was messy due to lack of caring this morning and he ran his hand through his hair to push it back and out of his eyes as he paced back and forth before finally coming to stop and resting his hand on the bark of the tree. His steel blue eyes slowly moved over to the tree as he rubbed his hand down it.
Suddenly he pulled back and threw a punch at the tree. Then another, and another. He could feel the bark cut his knuckles but he really didnt care. The pain mixed with the exertion of energy with the punches felt therapeutic. he was oblivious to world around him, focused for the moment, on his own self destructive act.

Chance Meeting at the Lake

Time: morning
Day: September 8, 2020
Location: Great Lake
Lydia would have never admitted this out loud, but she was really missing London. Even though she didn't want to spend the summer with her Grandmother, that changed pretty quickly as the woman gave her the opportunity to learn more about herself and about what she could do. Even though finding out that her mother had lied yet again to her, Lydia was actually kind of relieved to finally know the truth about her family, since a lot of things finally made sense.
That morning, with the classes finally starting, Lydia had gotten up pretty early so that she would have been able to get out of her common room right at 7AM, once the curfew was lifted since she didn't have in mind to get a detention any time soon. She was wearing her school robes, her long red hair still a little messy, as she was walking down the stairs and out, onto the courtyard and then on the grounds. The crispy morning air felt amazing on her skin, the wind was blowing gently, and almost no sounds could be heard. One might even doubt that inside the castle, hundreds of students were getting ready to face their day.
Her eyes were fixed over the Great Lake as she walked; she really wanted to sit there for a while before having to go to breakfast, since that was what she had done almost every day during the summer: she would have gotten up, changed into some sporty clothes and walked through the Hampstead Heath until she reached the ponds, where she would have spent some time just enjoying the peace and the view.
So at first she didn't notice the boy that had decided to take down a tree by punching it.
Lydia raised an eyebrow, confused by the sight of another student out of bed that early and by the way he didn't seem to care about his hands at all. For a second she wondered if maybe she should just ignore him, after all she didn't go there to talk with someone, but to stay a little by herself; but the closer she got, the more tempted to talk with the boy she got. Once she was close enough, she immediately noticed how he wasn't wearing his school uniform; his hair were long, and slightly messy in her opinion, and together with his whole punching the tree, he definitely looked like someone that was better to leave alone, especially when they seemed to have that much energy to let out.
Of course, Lydia did not care about that, not even for a second.
Instead, she cleared her voice and crossed her arms across her chest. "That tree must have done something really bad for you to treat him like that," she said as she motioned towards the boy with her head. "Are you alright?" she added then, her eyes trailing over to the boy's hands.

Rook stopped punching the tree and he rested his forehead against it, taking a few breaths as she looked down at the blood on the bark and felt the throbbing from his Raw knuckles. Hold on a moment...someone had spoke to him hadn't they? While the coppery smell of blood was heavy in the air being so close to him, a sweeter scent snuck it's way in. Vanilla and...sea salt? something like that. Clearly nothing from the lake.
With a heavy scowl he turned to face the girl who had just spoken to him, his messy hair finding it's way back in face as it seemingly almost always did eventually. He ran his right hand through his hair and pushed it back to get out of his face as he rested his Gaze on the girl. It was clear there was alot of Rage and anger in his eyes, and something more...predatory. The way his shirt hung she could most likely see a savage bite mark where his neck and shoulder meet but if she could interpret it was a different matter, as well as the deep scar on his face running from under his left eye to his jaw line.
Rook took a single step forward and tilted his head to the side some as he squinted at her. "I don't Know what back water fishing village you stumbled out of, but unless you want to take the tree's place. BACK OFF" He Barked out the last two words, baring his teeth some in a snarl as he closed his hands into tight fists

The more she looked at the bloodied hands of the boy, the more tempted Lydia was to walk closer to him and check if he was alright. "I should have some tissues here, you can wrap them around the wounds and then go to the Hospital Wing. Those might get infected, and it wouldn't be nice if that would happen," she said as she reached for a package of tissues in the inside pocket of her robe, but stopped in her movements when she noticed the way the guy was looking at her.
The first thing she noticed were his bright, blue eyes, that were burning with either rage, or anger; something in the way he looked at her made Lydia's heart beat slightly faster, as a cold chill ran down her spine. Was that fear? Why was she scared of a fellow student, all of a sudden? Then, she took in the rest of his face and body; dressed like the typical bad boy, this guy had long hair that fell over his face, where a deep scar had its place on his left cheek. But that wasn't the only scar he apparently had; another one, on his left side of the neck and towards his shoulder, was clearly visible; it looked as if someone had brutally bitten him there, and Lydia found herself both curious and concerned.
What was it with Hogwarts' students and scars? First Ruka, whose arms were covered in them, and now this boy.
Lydia decided to let the whole thing of the tissues go, and instead resisted the urge to take a step back when the boy took one towards her. His words made her raise her eyebrows, surprised by how almost feral the boy sounded; she also had to admit that she really didn't like the way he "talked" about Brighton and- The red headed girl stopped her train of thoughts, her expression changing from surprised to confused. "How do you even know that?" she asked before shaking her head. "You know what? It doesn't matter. I was just trying to help you, there's no need to be this rude," As she spoke, she adjusted a strand of hair behind her ear, her eyes fixed onto the boy's one.

The smell of fear was unmistakable, and it was a smell he was still not used to. It made his adrenaline spike and the hairs on the back of his neck stand tall as something primal deep inside of him almost urged him on to strike. After all, what beast doesn't pounce on it's prey when it cowers before them. He closed his eyes and rubbed his face before letting out a grunt of frustration and turning his back the girl and looking at the Lake.
Maybe if he shocked his system and disoriented his senses he could get his head clear, his mind was running a mile a minute and he felt like if he didnt just smash something Or SomeONE soon then he was going to explode. "Listen!" he barked "If you know what's good for you Huffle snuff you'll turn around and not look back. I eat runt's like you for breakfast. Aint noone told you about the Lion Rook? as many of you as I smacked around..."
He snarls to himself and he moves towards the waters edge "Fuck sake!" he yells at himself before he drops to his knees and braces himself with his hands before he dunks his head in the Lake, The cold water a shock and every smell that was around muted as the lake water filled his nose. He held his head under water for almost a minute before he pulled it back out and took a few breaths. he could feel his heart pounding less hard than it was and he shook his head. "Get yer shit together dumbass..." he mutters to himself

Apparently, wanting to relax a little bit by the lake that morning seemed to be a difficult task; the boy in front of her appeared more frustrated than ever, and decided to turn his back on her, only to then decide to answer her. Lydia couldn't help the massive eye roll she did when he distorted the name of her house -it looked like a lot of people in Hogwarts liked to do that- and she listened to his words.
A Gryffindor, of course he was one; judging by the fact she had never seen him, and that he looked too old to be a first year, the red headed girl figured he was most likely an older student. And, judging by his words, a bully, as well?
"Look, I have no idea of who you are," she sighed, shaking her head. "But I'm sure th-" once again, the red headed girl's train of thoughts got interrupted when she noticed Rook -was that even his name?- walk away towards the water, only to proceed in putting his head under the surface. Confusion was written all over her face as she observed the boy; the more time she spent in that school, the more weird people she met everyday.
Lydia then decided that it didn't matter; she tried to help him out, he refused, so now she would go back to her original plan, to chill by the water until it was time for her to go to breakfast. Feeling still slightly annoyed with the Gryffindor, she walked as well towards the water, before sitting down, a couple of meters away from the boy, on the pebbles so that her shoes would be only a bunch of inches away from the lake's surface. She let her eyes wander around, before looking again at the boy; people usually really liked her, and because of her being a part-veela they were mostly gentle and kind to her. But this boy, he had been the complete opposite.
A spark of curiosity lit up Lydia's eyes as she thought that, even if this Lion was particularly rude, at least he didn't seem to be too influenced by her charm; she couldn't hide the fact that part of her was also slightly annoyed because of that, but it wasn't like she could make everyone like her.

Kyle gets back to his feet, water dripping from his head and getting his shirt and jacket wet. He ran both of his hands through his hair to push it all back and slick it back in the process. perhaps now it would stay out of his face for awhile. Despite the smell of lake that lingered in his nose he could tell that girl was still around, so he looked to his right once before looking to his left and seeing her. He tightened his hands into tight fists as he glared at her. "Aint you got the good sense to know when you should leave someone alone. The hell you lingering around here for?"
He wasn't used to people standing up to him in such a passive manner. Getting in his face, or talking smack, or even hitting or shoving him when he antagonized them. That made sense. but just...acting like he wasn't there. That was almost insulting, Like she thought he was beneath her or something. What happened to fear that he smelled earlier?
Kyle stuffed his hands into his jacket pockets and shook his head. "If I wanted a picnic or somethin, Id have handed out flyers. Go find another place to sit while it's still your choice to move. Get me?"

As the boy looked at Lydia, the girl could see the tension run through his body, his hands curled up into tight fists; it looked like he was in such a bad mood that not even the cold water of the lake managed to calm him down. She shrugged and moved her eyes over to the water’s surface, observing the waves that kept getting close to her feet, but not enough to properly touch them.
“I’m here because I wanted to enjoy some peace by the lake, before getting stuck into the usual routine,” she answered him, without even looking in his direction. “The grounds are big enough for the both of us to coexist, aren’t they?”
It was then that she looked at the Gryffindor boy again, properly taking in the way he looked; he would have been a pretty boy, if it wasn’t for his extremely rude attitude, or at least Lydia thought so.
“You don’t have to sit with me, if you want you’re free to go wherever you please. It is true that here it’s quite nice, so... I don’t mind if you decide to stay, but one thing is sure: I’m not going anywhere for now,” it was in situation like these, where she should have probably listened more to her common sense, that Lydia’s stubborn side usually came to the surface. She could have easily moved -after all, as she had just said, there was enough space for everyone- but she couldn’t stand that someone with an attitude like the Gryffindor’s boy might “win”.

Squared his shoulders and he was filled with a great anger from the sheer disrespect of how she was so blatantly dismissing him and acting like he was nothing. Barely worth her notice. But as he tensed up and was about to stomp over towards her and kick her in the side of her head with his boot, calmer heads prevailed as he took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She wanted to enjoy the lake? She really did. Well, far be it for him to keep her from that. infact. He was going to help her.
He shook his head and stuffed his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket. "you know what...fine. You win. Lake is yours. im out of here" he grumbled, seemingly defeated. He began to walk off as if he was going to simply leave the lake, defeated by her strength of will and unwavering infront of his brutish nature. Surely victory was hers!
But as he cross behind her he stopped. Moving quickly he came up behind her and looped his arms under her and pulled tight in an almost full nelson like hold. He held tightly, making sure she couldn't Squirm free. "You like the Lake so much? Get a closer Look!"
He then shifted his body, and twisted her to take away any footing she had and then he dropped his arms and wrapped them tightly around her waist and using everything he had he threw her into the lake.
He laughed and slapped his hands together to brush them off. "Make sure to kick your legs alot! The Giant squid likes that!" he laughed, but there was no humor behind it. It was just as mean as the expression in his eyes

Lydia looked up at the boy when he spoke, a sigh leaving her lips. She didn't mean that he had to leave, he could have simply stayed there, without having to do all of this drama for nothing. She slightly rolled her eyes before turning back towards the water; the surface was relatively calm, even though it was a little windy outside, the sun was now shining high in the sky, and it felt nice over her skin. It would have been quite chilly if it would have been cloudy.
"Alright, I guess," she said shrugging, before turning her attention completely on the lake. She didn't bother to check if the Gryffindor actually left, he did say he wanted to go and he looked like the kind of person that did whatever he wanted anyway. Because of this, she didn't notice him walking closer to her and only when he felt someone touching her arms and being pulled up from the ground, she turned her head as she tried to see who it was.
"Wha- let me go! What are you doing!?" Lydia basically screamed, her legs moving frantically as she tried to free herself. The boy's hold was strong, no matter how much she tried to set herself free; there was a moment in which she thought she had managed to do that, but it only appeared that the Gryffindor boy only wanted to readjust his hold, because Lydia found herself trapped again.
When he spoke again, Lydia widened her eyes realising what he was planning to do. "Oh no, don't you dare-" she couldn't finish her sentence that she found herself being thrown inside of the lake. The water was freezing already, even though it was only the beginning of September and technically summer was not over yet, and the impact with it knocked out all of the air inside of her lungs. She opened her eyes underwater, but it was difficult to see anything aside from the light coming from above her; she swam in that direction, her movement slightly restricted by her school uniform that had become quite heavy from being wet -good thing that she knew how to swim, otherwise she could have seriously drowned.
Reemerging from the lake, Lydia started swimming to both stay afloat and reach the shore; her eyes were fixed over the boy, an angry expression written all over her features. How dare he do something like that? Who did he think he was? Once she reached the land again, she moved the hair away from her face before she started marching towards the boy. If she would have stopped for a second to think, she would have realised that it was probably not a good idea.
"What exactly is wrong with you!" she said as she stopped a meter away from him, her breathing heavy both from the swimming and the anger. "Not only you have the manners of someone that was raised by- by wolves!" she started, as she tried to find the right way to express just how rude he was being. "But you're also completely out of your mind! The lake is dangerous, you can't just throw people in it!"
