When Rohan heard that Akari's father spoke Japanese, he was impressed. He had seen some of that language's characters, and it seemed really hard and confusing. Luckily, he dropped Greek (which also has some sort of different alphabet), because he just disliked other characters in languages. Hebrew was the same. Also these weird characters. Robert seemed to find it a hard language too, so Rohan was relieved. He accidentally showed this in his expression a bit.

When Robert moved the subject to school subjects, he got excited. Flying was a subject. Even though, Rohan was a bit nervous since he had seen the young flyer fall off her broom, he was excited.
"I'm really excited for flying. I hope to join the Quidditch school team one day. Transfiguration seems cool too. Do you think it would be allowed to use transfiguration spells during a duel? Or is that too dangerous...?"

He thought about his uncle, telling him that one of his teachers used a transfiguration spell on a student once, to teach him a lesson. He stayed in the shape of a toad for the rest of the class. That teacher was gone, though, a year after that. He loved his uncle's stories, even though they were a little frightening sometimes. He liked that.

Interacting with @Lea Hirsch @Taffy Miller and @Walter Medrano

Eva looked up from her thoughts as the others introduced themselves. Her eyes were finally adjusting to the dark light and she could make the faces of the others in the boat. The girl who had introduced herself as Lea had dark hair and eyes, and the one boy on the boat, Walter, also had darker hair that was a little hard to make out in the dark. Looking at the last girl on the boat, Eva made out the glasses on her face and that she also had brown hair and eyes. Eva realised, her light hair and bright eyes probably stood out a lot more than the other three.

"My name is Eva." She said and then turned to Walter. "It's ok, I'm excited too. I'm from Wexford Ireland." She continued to the whole group. "What house are you hoping to be sorted into? I'm hoping Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, but mum and dad say anything is possible.." She slowed down realising she too was babbling. "Sorry sometimes I can just talk on and on and on, especially when I am excited."

Eva heard the caretaker yell out, and she felt the boat jerk a bit as it started forward. The boat had started moving. As the boats moved into a misty area Eva felt herself shiver. She couldn't see the other boats very well, only really making out the spots of light were the lanterns were, and it was a bit harder to see the other three students on the boat. It's just a bit of fog. She thought to herself.

Starlee looked a little taken aback as Remi responded back to her. She wasn't expecting that pushback from him, but she couldn't help but show a grin as she realized Jess was laughing at her remarks. Well, the boy certainly deserved it!

Starlee then nodded vigourously as she agreed with Jess's statement. "You're not unwanted! The kids on the other boat are probably just tired or something... I'll probably be in Ravenclaw, I think... maybe we'll all be in the same house!" To this, Starlee got excited. All four of them in the boat to be Ravenclaws?! How awesome would it be to already have friends in the same house? Her heart warmed some at the thought. She was ready to make some long-lasting friends. "I hope we can all be in the same house! That would be so cool!" she said, with a little squeak of joy in the word 'cool.'

She then drew her attention to the other boy as Remi called him out. Clearly he didn't have the foresight yet to realize the boy just wanted to be left alone. Jess had asked as well, and she wondered to herself if she was the only one who could get a read on people. As good as she was at reading people, however, she was terrible at not showing her expressions and feelings, and her jaw dropped a little as Remi commented on the boy's size. Well, all she could hope for was that Logan wouldn't take the remark personally. We certainly don't need a fight to break out and another opportunity to arise for the boat to topple over.

The mist was thick all around her, and she continued to try to not show any concern. Jess seemed to be trying to calm her down, but it wasn't working. She decided to ask more questions to try to get her mind off of the giant squid. "Sooo... what classes are you all excited about? I think for me, its potions or herbology. I plan to be a healer..." She would have said this fairly confidently, but her concern about the squid caused her to waver. She ended up scooting closer to Logan in an attempt to get further away from the edge of the boat, and bumped into him accidentally. She let out a small squeak of "Sorry..." and moved back away from him.

As the conversation changed to school subjects, Akari knew right away what she was most excited for. Although she was looking forward to many of the classes such as Charms, Potions, Transfiguration and etc, from what her brother and father told her the class she wanted to partake in the most was Defence Against the Dark Arts.
After Rohan had spoken about how was eager to start flying and Transfiguration she started up.
"Oh 100% I am most excited for Defence Against the Dark Arts!
She exclaimed without the slightest bit of hesitation.
Akari had found the subject fascinating on so many levels. Learning about curses, dark creatures and what's out there made her stay on the edge of her seat, but to her it was somehow thrilling at the same time.
And what was only a bonus to her interest in the class was that it had been her father's favourite subject when he attended Hogwarts.

Then she turned to Robert and furrowed her brow slightly. She just realized that if he had't known what quidditch was, would he know the subjects they were discussing? Perhaps the school had informed him about the classes prior to his arrival? She had no clue how it worked when you are coming from a non-wizarding family.
"Robert, do you know what subjects we take in school?"
She asked him curiously.

In boat number 5.

Gazing into the watery depths beneath the boat to which the four girls happened to be currently sharing with each other as they were about to experience their very first encounter with the ancient magical school that was Hogwarts, Orianna let her ponytail blow in the breeze trying to look out across the large lake into the far distance for any sign of where they may have been heading at that moment in time or what they may have been able to expect completely clueless about the first-year tradition on the night they first arrived at the school.

Lost deep in thought as she gazes beneath trying to catch any sign of life beneath the watery surface even just a glimpse of the giant squid that they had been warned about before entering the boats to the reason they needed to remain seated at all times across the lake, Orianna would suddenly be brought back to the reality that this experience was actually happening when the first dark-haired girl who had come onto boat 5 spoke up as she introduced herself to the girls as Abigail Ravenmoon and expressed how she was excited to share this experience with them all as well as asking if any of them had a clue of what house they would be sorted into.

House? What did that mean? Being from the muggle world and only learning about the school just two months or so previously when a strange letter of invitation to attend the school would arrive through the post addressed to Orianna herself it had been a bit to much to get her head around these past few months as not only would she learn something about herself that made her feel less than ordinary but she would also start to learn the truth surrounding her adoption and birth parents. Yes, Orianna had always known from a young age how she had come to be a Lightfoot but before the letter had arrived and her whole life had been turned upside down never once in her short eleven years had the girl wondered about who she was or where she had came from.

Looking across at the girl Orianna smiled shyly as she began to answer the girls first question her northern accent shimmering through as she spoke. "House? Sorry, this world is completely new to me and I have tried to get my head around it but I don't think I have heard of something called a house just yet but then again I haven't really had that much time to research or items to help with that I guess" she chuckles a little embarrassed as she is truthful about just how clueless she actually was about Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry as well as the life of the wizarding world in general.

Hearing the girls one at a time name houses off Orianna couldn't help but feel a little out of her own depths as her nerves and self-doubt started creeping into the forefront of her mind worry that she may not belong at the school or that it was going to be taken away at any moment echoing through her mind before she found herself getting distracted once more when Abigail would go on to ask the three of them about their upbringing. "Well there isn't really much to know when it comes to me, just your typical farm gal who spent most of her days in school and the evenings on the farm before doing homework so nothing too extreme or extravagant, how about yourself?" She turned to reply to Abigail asking her about herself.

Thankfully, one of the girls, who Callista suspected had brown hair (but it was hard to tell in the dark), accepted her kindly. Cautiously, Callista stepped into the boat, which was rocking gently. Callista quickly sat down and looked up, refusing to look over the boat into the deep water. Soon quietness settled over their small boat. Callista could see a lot of stars, as well as the moon. It was a clear night, without many clouds. She could dimly hear chatter from the other boats, but she didn’t mind that it was quiet on their boat, at least for now. She glanced down to look at the other people in the boat, then quickly looked away again once she saw the water. She had always been afraid of deep water, especially the ocean and lakes. It was even worse in the nighttime, when the water was not only deep but also dark and murky.

Then the only girl Callista hadn’t met yet introduced herself as Abigail Ravenmoon. She also mentioned that she was from Scotland. So that meant the girl that had welcomed her was named Orianna, the one with a heavy Scottish accent was named Edna, and the last girl was named Abigail.

“... Do you have any idea of which house you want to be sorted into?” the girl continued.

Immediately Callista’s thoughts flew to the four houses in Hogwarts. Ravenclaw for the wise and curious, Hufflepuff for the kind and loyal, Gryffindor for the brave and strong, and Slytherin for the cunning and ambitious. Secretly, she hoped to be in Ravenclaw. She thought that it would fit her well enough.

“House? Sorry, this world is completely new to me and I have tried to get my head around it, but I don't think I have heard of something called a house just yet, but then again I haven't really had that much time to research or items to help with that, I guess,” the first girl, Orianna, replied. The girl spoke quickly, but Callista could follow it well enough to deduct that this girl must be Muggle born like her, or at least wasn’t aware of the magic world until recently. However, she was surprised that Orianna hadn’t read as many books as she could like Callista had done. Orianna chuckled a little, and Callista glanced down to the girls. She couldn’t avoid it forever, could she?

“Um,” Callista started. “I think I could be in Ravenclaw, but I don’t really know...” She fidgeted with her robes and looked up at the stars again.

Abigail then asked about their upbringing, and Orianna replied, “Well there isn't really much to know when it comes to me, just your typical farm gal who spent most of her days in school and the evenings on the farm before doing homework so nothing too extreme or extravagant, how about yourself?”.

Orianna had used the word “typical” and the phrase, “there isn’t really much to know”, but she had said that she lived on a farm, which Callista thought was interesting. She didn’t know anyone who lived on a farm. Then again, she didn’t really know many people anyway. Actually, now that she thought about it, Callista thought that there had been a boy in one of her classes that grew up on a farm. She wondered what it was like to interact with animals every day.

“Um, well, I’m Muggle born,” Callista said cautiously. She suspected that Abigail had asked that question to find out what their blood status was, as well as perhaps some background information. “Um, I was born in Japan, but I moved to England when I was thr— when I was young.” she was about to say “when I was three”, but decided against it for some reason she didn’t really know. She didn’t know these people very well, and didn’t really want to give that much information all at once, so she didn’t mention anything else about herself to the others. She waited quietly for Abigail and the other girls’ replies.

Robert listened as his boatmates shared the class they were looking forward to the most. Elisabeth said she was looking forward to learning spells used in everyday life, like cleaning, but didn't know what class that would be. After hearing Rohan's enthusiasm for Quidditch, Robert was not surprised to learn he was looking forward to flying class. Finally, Akari said that she was looking forward to Defense against the Dark Arts. She then turned to Robert and asked, "Do you know what subjects we take in school?" He assumed this was because of his earlier confession about Quidditch, but he was thankful that Akari hadn't outright said that.

Robert reddened a bit in embarrassment. "Well, I, erm, already read through all my textbooks, and kind of gathered from them what classes I'd be taking. Potions, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, History, Magical Creatures, and Magical Theory? I didn't realize there were Flying or Transfiguration classes until you said something though, since we didn't get textbooks for them," Robert said, nodding to Rohan for the last part. He thought about asking what Transfiguration was, but remembered Rohan's reaction when he'd admitted to not knowing what Quidditch was, and thought differently. The same goes for his other new question about how wizard duels work. He made mental notes to look both of them up once he got to the castle. "I think the class I'm looking forward to most is Charms, like Elisabeth. Same reason, also. It just seems like the most useful class for everyday life."

Things were certainly getting more interesting in this boat. Everyone was becoming friends and decided to just go with the flow and try making a few friends. The girls in the boat seemed to like the idea of everyone in this boat staying ending up in the same house which I had to admit would be pretty cool.
The mist was thickening and the whole giant squid thing seemed to worry more people. Starlee asked us which subject we were most excited about. She wanted to be a healer cuz she liked potions and herbology.
"Yeah. It think I'm gonna go for Defense against the Dark Arts or Charms"
It felt really nice talking to someone that wasn't a really bad influence on me or even just crazy. I felt really good about myself and the thought of being friends with these guys that I almost cracked a smile... Almost. Starlee suddenly moved away from the edge of the boat and bumped into me. "Sorry" the girl said as she moved away from me. I didn't want to threaten or make anyone feel uncomfortable in here. So I smiled and said..
"Don't worry. It's not like I'll hurt anyone here cuz I'm taller"

Walter was the name of the next person to talk. Or Walt, she supposed. Lea was rather thankful that her name couldn't be shortened any further- it seemed odd having to deal with more names than necessary. Three names seemed like enough- first, middle, last. Maybe even two if someone wanted to get rid of the middle name. London, he had said, which was east and a little south of where she lived. But both of them were rather far from Scotland, which made the girl feel a little... happier. It was nice that she wasn't the only one missing home already.

Lea had already said her name, so she kept quiet. Ireland was also far from Scotland- it seemed as though everyone came from the area, but not in the area near the castle. The girl noted this down, nodding along slightly as the girl- Eva- continued to speak. Although the small motion would stop once the light-haired girl began talking about houses. The dark-haired girl wasn't all that keen on talking about Hogwarts- even if it was one of the main events of the day. After all, the boats were supposed to get them to the castle for the sorting ceremony.

She'd allow for a moment of silence before deciding it was perhaps her turn to talk. Just the thought of it managed to fill her throat with dense air, feeling as though her breaths were smaller, shorter. A hand twirled around one of her braids, fingers intertwining themselves in the messy hair. She glanced at her feet for a few moments, curling in on herself. This- felt terribly unusual to the eleven year old, mentally kicking herself for the reaction of simply having to speak to these other eleven year olds. They were nice and the same age as her, for crying out loud!

"I- I'm not... sure." The truth was that she didn't want to think about houses- it felt as though she would be giving into magic. And magic was something the young girl had decided didn't exist and never would. "The view looks nice," she added somewhat pathetically. At least the first year hadn't stumbled on those words.

Hjørdis silently counted her blessings as no one actually came to talk to her. It was rather pleasant to see the students start to mingle on their own - it made things a lot easier for the professors, at the very least. Though, she could not help but sigh as she overheard some of the nearby conversations. Slipping her hand into his, she stepped into the boat carefully - just as she had instructed the students not too many moments earlier. Her silvery eyes caught his, giving him a polite nod of her head out of gratitude.

She seated herself opposite him, watching him adjust their lantern. It had been almost two years to date since she had first entered the castle as the head of Slytherin. Spending almost that entire time - bar the last two months and a few odd days over the years - within the darkest area of the castle itself: the dungeons. The dark corridors of the dungeons had become familiar to her. Of course, the corridors themselves were lined with candles to avoid it getting too dark. However, compared to some places - such as the badger's den - the snake house was far darker. She had gotten used to it. In fact, she was pretty certain that the overbearingly bright light of the Hufflepuff common room was capable of burning holes in her retinas.

Her gaze fell on her companion's face, taking in his expression. The head of Slytherin almost reached out, opening her mouth to say something when a rather loud call caught her attention. Silence was very underappreciated, it would seem. She turned to spot a small boy standing up on a rocking boat. He had to be kidding right? After their warnings of being careful. They had clearly fallen on deaf ears. Marcus beat her to the punch, his tone of voice definitely summarising how she felt - despite her blank expression.

Of course, she knew more about the giant squid than the others did but she went along with it, fully understanding his choice of words. Scanning the grounds once the boy seemed to be stable, she noticed everyone had found themselves a boat, turning back to Marcus and nodding an affirmative just to clarify that they should be ready to go from what she could see too.

It was not long before the mist engulfed them, making it nearly impossible to see any of the other boats. If they fell in now, well... there was no saving them. It would be alright to just... leave them, right? Probably not but she could hope. Besides, there was no way she was diving into the water and ruining her clothing, hair or make up. Nope, it was not happening. Well, hopefully, they would be not be hearing any more screaming children trying to rock the boat through the mist.

A smile crossed her lips as she glanced back at the source of the question she heard, addressed to her. She could not even begin to imagine how awful he felt and there was very little she could do but silently comfort him with her presence - if that was even remotely comforting to anyone - and smile, which admittedly was rather rare in the presence of the castle they were making their way to. "Depends on how many students we have and how slow they are," She admitted in response to his words. Sometimes, a student seemed to take forever to step forward and sit down on the stool! "The process itself is rather quick though as most of us just want to feast. I believe Lear's speech is on the shorter side this time and the hat will, no doubt, sing."

She sighed softly as she observed him, silently wishing there was something she could do to help. Well maybe there was, but she was not entirely sure that he would agree with it.
