Tap, tap, tap. The sound of the Slytherin's footsteps was consistent as she made her way through the hallway for a patrol. This month, she had been particularly frustrated. It went in cycles, months of relative peace followed by months where she was on edge or constantly angry, able to be set off by the slightest thing. Today was most definitely one of those volatile days, and while she didn't want to have to deal with any troublemakers, she figured it was better to keep moving rather than hole herself up in her dormitory or find an empty region of the grounds. She didn't want to risk coming across a friend in one of her regular spots, either, as she was afraid to blow up on them. They couldn't see her like this, no, they couldn't see the rage that she barely managed to conceal.

Tap, tap, tap. She felt like she was going crazy. Her attempts to keep her emotions under lock and key were failing spectacularly, and she couldn't keep this up for much longer. She was at risk of snapping at any person she came across, whether they did anything to provoke her or not. Her footfalls got a little faster as she wove through the clumps of students that stood idly chatting in the corridors. She was running out of places to run, places to hide, and she could feel the negativity threaten to suffocate her.

Tap, tap, tap. This was madness. The now-familiar feeling of rage was present and she couldn't get rid of it, couldn't find a way to escape it and calm down. She slowed slightly, returning to her previous pace—a brisk walk instead of nearly jogging. She couldn't risk being the one to initiate a collision. No, she was more careful than that and didn't want to be at risk of yelling at whatever poor soul got in her way. She would be mindful of herself and her space, and she was still considering this a patrol, so she had to make sure no one was breaking the rules. Did that include herself?

Tap, tap, tap. Her anger was slowing, getting less intense, transforming into a dull churning in the pit of her stomach rather than being a glass box full of water that she was trapped in, unable to stay afloat because there was no escape and the only option was to drown. Perhaps now that it had quieted a little, it would vanish altogether, but that was a wish that would not come true. She continued onwards. It seemed that the corridor would never end, much like her anger. If she could just finish up here and go somewhere away from people, maybe she could make it through the day without lashing out at anyone. A sigh escaped her lips and she kept her gaze up, facing forwards, trying to get a glimpse at what lay ahead.

A few weeks had passed since her quarrel with Ivy. But May was still feeling dreadful.

The thought of losing her only childhood best friend's love made a huge blow inside her tiny mind and sould, something that had changed her drastically. She wasn't her lively self for one, she snapped at anyone anywhere she went and felt extremely depressed the whole time. Otherwise than that, everything was fine- almost everything.

The other problem was her mother. Strong Eloise Moonstar, the head of the Moonstar household had fallen into a big non-magical blow, the blow that you call sickness. Most of the time, when she fell ill, Mrs. Moonstar felt better the next day and came back to her normal disciplined, strict self...but she never felt gravely sick, or injured whatever the circumstances.

But those times had finished.

Mrs. Moonstar had begun to caugh all the time, couldn't breath for a long time and one day- she went to the hospital, Muggle that was, to check out what the hell was going on with her. And then-
She had pneumonia. She had never thought she was fragile from the lungs, but then-

The doctors had told her that she should rest and stop worrying about anything, but...she still worried. She mumbled in her sleep, came into a trance, and she was always saying: May, May, May...
Something was wrong, terribly wrong. Now, the whole family was blaming her for all of this, when this girl needed support. Now, she felt empty, even if her mother was not close to her, even if Mrs. Moonstar was the less fun person in the world.

But then she had lost her friend. That made it twice difficult to process, and thrice difficult to talk about. But she shared it all off, trying not to think about it, but it came, it came in her dreams, in her thoughts....it did not help.

So this girl needed something to clear up her mind- like the Abandoned toilets. Yes, that place was perfect for troubled minds, especially ones like May. So she decided to run, so that nobody she knew would be able to catch up with the athlete, and of course, bring her secret diary with her. She runned, and as she crossed off somebody she knew well, she looked back and barely another swift movement when she just....yes, she had just bumped into someone. Her flamingo bag slammed to the floor and her diary, thought May did not notice, opened into a unexpected page. She rubbed her head with the back of her pale hand.

"What the- hey, watch were you're going....Omigoshimsosorry." May finished nervously as she looked at the prefect bage she had clutched to her chest. She was beggining to stand up, but fell back again, feeling extremely clumsy. Sweat was going down through her neck as she looked at the prefect she had just encountered- apparently very mad. And that was not good.

Ruby kept walking, holding her steady pace. The people around her in the corridors seemed to be giving her a wide berth, which she didn't notice but would have been grateful for. They were sensible to avoid her—practically anyone could notice the ever-present anger that rolled off of her, eyes burning with a frenzied passion. If she wasn't scary enough as a prefect and as a pureblood who carried herself with an intimidating air of grace and perfection, she was scary because of this volatile anger.

And then there was an impact. If her anger had been dull and ebbing away before, it had now rushed back, a wave of it consuming her. Fingers curled into fists at her sides, tightly balled up as she looked down with disgust at the girl who had bumped into her and fallen, her lips parting into a sneer. “Watch where I'm going?” she repeated dangerously softly, the rage threatening to explode. She inhaled deeply in an attempt to rid herself of some of it, but she just ended up laughing quietly. No, she was too far gone. “You bumped into me and have the nerve to insinuate that it was my fault?” Her lips were pursed tightly as she shook her head disapprovingly.

“Better be careful, or I'll have to teach you a lesson,” she said with a hum of warning. The look in her eyes was unhinged—any further push and she would completely snap. It was then that she noticed the diary on the floor and bent down to sweep it up in one swift motion. “Well, what do we have here?” Her gaze moved from the diary back to the girl, taunting the younger student with the object she knew would have some significance to her.

May didn't want the prefect to be mad at her, for this one had all the right to give her detention. It seemed like she hadn't listened to her last remark, only responding to the " Watch where you're going" one. May gulped, and tried to make the older girl see sense. She had been slightly distracted, that was all. Nothing to worry about. " H-hey, I'm sorry ok! I got distracted, and looked around and didn't see where I was going. And-and then..and then I bumped into you. I didn't do it on purpose tho. I'm really sorry."

But clearly the girl wasn't eager to listen. She gave her a warning, and when May was about to pick up her things, the older girl had seen what May hadn't. Her diary. May watched, horrified, as the Sytherin prefect kneeled down to retrieve the remarkably used book, and took it in her hands.

This was May's most prized possession, her best friend in these horrible times. But anybody that would dare to take it from her, would pay. And the Slytherin had crossed an invisible line that would make the Hufflepuff snap, certainly very dangerously. It was odd for May to attack a prefect, yet, now, she couldn't control herself.

" DONT! " May roared, her eyes flashing and her face read. " T-that's private! Please, don't touch it."

This time, May's voice was softer, recalling that she was talking with a prefect, thought unfriendly was in possession of the rules, and would be able to give May immediate detention.
