it's not noise if you tap your foot

Afternoon
Sunny, Chilly
Pianos, guitars, violins, oh my!
Well, it wasn't that surprising. She was overreacting. With the school she was residing in having a ginormous library and plenty of jaw-dropping rumors, this would be the place you'd find a plethora of instruments. She honestly hasn't spent an extended amount of time in the rehearsal room. It was easy to overlook, considering there were moving staircases, an abandoned bathroom with a ghost in it, talking paintings, and plenty more. But it was nice. Quiet. A little creepy, but if she had company she probably wouldn't even notice how strange it looked.
At least the place lived up to its reputation. Every step she took echoed throughout the room. Good acoustics! That was at least something somewhat exciting about the place. Marla approached a trumpet sitting in the corner, mentally laughing evilly to herself. She had no musical talent whatsoever but god, did she know how to annoy people. And this trumpet may be the key to doing so. There were no people in there, but maybe she'd scare a few away who heard her from the doors.
Pressing down on one of the keys, Marla put her lips around the holey-thingy and blew as hard as possible. It made a blaring noise that immediately had her dropping the poor instrument as she clutched onto her ears for dear life. "I'm not joining the marching band anytime soon," she murmured to herself with a wince, plopping onto the floor. At the frequency that the horrid sound she had just emitted into the world played, Marla was convinced her brain vibrated. It was a shame. She'd always wanted to be good at something music-related. Trumpet... Not really. More of the piano or guitar vibe. Maybe an electric guitar! The electric guitar would be cool. But she couldn't read music. Not without having a stroke, she couldn't. At least she was able to write. Some aspects of the arts came naturally to her. If not, Marla might've gotten her emotions out by banging her head on a wall until it started to bleed.
Spotting a piano in the far right side of the room, Marla raced towards it and plopped herself on the bench. She hung upside down from it and sighed. For the first time in a while, she was bored. It was quite peaceful actually. Her life had been so hectic lately, leaving her no time to feel even a little dull. Her thoughts were racing at a mile a minute at every second of every day and she could barely get any sleep. It was driving her insane. Maybe it was the blood rushing to her head, but Marla's mind felt empty. Even for a normal teenager, that was a feat. For the Gryffindor, this was huge. She smiled to herself. Everything was right for the first time in a long, long time. Which was strange. Because nothing changed from three minutes ago besides a trumpet on the floor. It was still creepy as hell.
It was still beautiful though. There was a giant chandelier in the middle of the room that she was looking up at, balancing her head with the help of her hands. There was a crackling fireplace that made everything that much more homey, and since Marla ran cold (despite being very fond of incendio), it tied the whole place together. But as mentioned before numerous times, she would not be surprised if this place was haunted.
But a little ghost never hurt nobody.
"your loss, baby !!"

it's not noise if you tap your foot
~ * ~Ruby was passing through the corridors on the fourth floor. She didn't really know where she was headed, there was no destination. Maybe she would stop by the library, or maybe she would just wander aimlessly. She hummed to herself as she walked, in a decent mood for once. Her anger kept returning spontaneously, generally around more for a few days or even a month before it dissipated for a while longer. Of course, it could be set off by people getting on her nerves, but she wasn't too likely to be as easily irritated at the moment, her temperament calm.
She fell into step with the tune she was humming, each tap of her shoes in time with the beat. She was passing by a door when she heard… something coming from it, interrupting her humming. She came to a halt to better hear whatever it was, but just ended up wincing. What was that? It sounded like a dying cow or some distorted foghorn. Frowning, she pushed the door open, peering in cautiously. She was about to voice her questions on the odd sound when she spotted a familiar shock of red hair. She grinned and closed the door behind her, looking into the brown eyes of her best friend. She seemed to be dangling from a bench, and Ruby tilted her head sideways in a futile attempt to make Marla's face look like it was the right way up.
“Well, fancy seeing you here,” she commented idly, her eyes lit up with joy at the sight of the girl she felt she had known her whole life. She sat down on the floor, crossing her legs and gazing at her friend. Brown eyes versus ice blue ones, bright red locks compared with neat, dark curls, the two looked so different. They could never be related, not directly, but they were almost like sisters, sharing an unmistakable sense of kinship. “So you were the one murdering the cow.” Her teasing was light, and her expression would quite clearly display her true fondness.
She glanced around the room, taking in the sight of familiar and unfamiliar instruments alike. She really hadn't been here much, if at all, but she was glad to explore it with the Gryffindor she had grown so close to. A sudden realisation struck her as she remembered the date. “We've known each other for exactly a year now, Marla,” she began, shocked. “This is cause for celebration! What do you say, d'ya reckon we could try a couple of these out and make sure the whole world is aware of our presence?” A smirk appeared on her face at this as she stretched a hand out, offering it as support to help the other girl up.~ * ~

it's not noise if you tap your foot
[quote]Marla flinched as if her life depended on it as soon as she heard the creaking of large doors echoing throughout the room. Of course, she loved bothering people, but she didn't want to be confronted by those she seamlessly annoyed, that was so much work! She accidentally did a very...Botched somersault off of the piano bench, furrowing her eyebrows from the sudden ache on her head. It wasn't that bad, thankfully. And quicker than it happened, she completely forgot about the incident that just happened as soon as she spotted a familiar voice.
"Well, fancy seeing you here."
The girl's golden eyes lit up as she noticed who'd joined her in the rehearsal room. Her best friend and comrade, Ruby Cazares. "Innit?" She responded, sharply inhaling through her teeth after her wipeout off the piano bench. It'd been a while since Marla had seen Ruby. She was kind of avoiding her since Marla had a lot of things happen after winter break that she didn't feel like explaining to anyone, really. It was too much work, and took so much out of her to think about. And she didn't want to have to lie to her best friend so she just didn't talk to her for a bit. But it seemed that fate had other ideas. Not that she was complaining, of course. Only meeting last year, the two girls had formed a bond almost immediately after they struck up a conversation, and have been inseparable since. Even now, all her troubles seem to be so insignificant in Ruby's presence.
At the mention of the 'dying cow' also known as Marla's lack of musical skill, she'd scoffed sarcastically and let out a small giggle at the comment. Marla rubbed her scalp where she banged it and shrugged, looking up. "I'm no virtuoso, but I'm no serial cow killer either, meanie." She lightly kicked the Slytherin's leg with her foot, sticking the tip of her tongue out playfully. Glancing up at the girl, she returned the endearing gaze that was given, a bit flattered by the fact that her blue eyes seemed so icy that they could turn someone's blood cold, but somehow Ruby made them warm, in a way. Like a hot tub. No, that's not very poetic. It felt more similar to the dancing blue flames under the mounds of yellow and orange on a crackling campfire. And it was nice. Before Ruby, she didn't know what it was like to feel vulnerable and safe with someone at the same time. And so what Ruby said next made her share a surprised glance with the girl, who also had the same epiphany as soon as the Slytherin faltered a bit.
"Already, huh?! I feel like it's been a week or something. Happy birthday, friendship!" She grinned, swaying herself side to side for a mini-celebration. After that, Ruby made an amazing suggestion to basically drive everyone that walked by the rehearsal room to the point of insanity, and Marla's smile grew only wider. Taking her friend's hand in a non-verbal agreement to torture her classmates, she lifted herself up and picked up the previously discarded trumpet. Well, I can't say it was too hard for me to do before, lets see if you're any good, now," She snickered, poking fun at Ruby before blowing extremely hard into the trumpet again, covering her ears with her shoulders as best as she could. Even with her ears covered, it still sounded as if a room full of farm animals had gotten the death penalty. "Uhh... Maybe I should try something a bit different..." She half-joked, doing the walk of shame back to the piano, to spare everyone and their ears as well.
Touching the keys delicately to compose herself, she began playing Mary Had a Little Lamb and messed it up almost immediately. Rolling her eyes, she took a deep breath, and then looked at her friend. "Oh, who cares. Let's make some noise!" And indeed, she did. Not that it was very good, of course, but banging her fingers violently on the keys was as good as it was going to get. Any instrument Marla Quinlan played would most likely destroy your ears. Pick your poison.
