The only good thing about today was how tasty the buttered rolls were. Life was suffering and agony and buttered rolls were Edna's only friends. Okay, so she may have been being a bit dramatic. However, in her defense, the Sorting Hat had led her to believe she'd be going to Gryffindor instead. Edna was simply grumbling and throwing a tantrum, like a child who had candy in front of her suddenly taken away.

When the older girl started speaking to her, Edna leaned up. Her dark muddy hazel eyes scanned the other for a moment. Was she okay? Well, she wasn't dying. So, yes, she was okay, right? Edna's cheeks grew a bit red for a moment. She had just been huffing and puffing about being sorted into this house and now one of the older students was checking up on her.

Edna would redirect her gaze, looking off to the side awkwardly. ”Er- Hiya ah'm fine, ah jus' er... didn' 'xpect ta get sorted inta dis house, ya know?” she grumbled, leaning to rest her elbow on the table and her chin in her propped up hand. Her free hand went for more bread rolls. Edna chewed for a moment before swallowing and taking the older girl's hand.

”Ah'm Edna Watts, ah jus' got 'ere!”

Lucia took a moment to decipher what was going on behind the thick Scottish accent the girl possessed before replying.
"Don't worry, I know what you're feeling." Lucia sighed, remembering the stupid idiot she'd been during her own first term. "I was the same last year, but" - she shrugged, spearing a carrot with her fork - "Hufflepuff's an awesome house really, we should get more credit."
She put down her fork and adjusted her headband before picking it back up again - though they were useful for keeping her hair out her face, headbands did tend to scratch behind the ears.
"Should've brought a scrunchie instead," the girl muttered to herself.
Kind and loyal - the two qualities everyone valued but no-one seemed to notice.
Without the students of House Huffle, Lucia was sure, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry would fall. Hufflepuffs were responsible for at least half of the joy and friendship that hugged the school tightly, even if they weren't often credited for it. Lucia wished she had known that a year ago - and she wished that she could put that into words to say to Edna. It might make her feel better, at least.

Her stomach was filled with dread as she approached the Hufflepuff table-her face pulled into an expression of confusion and what could be titled as fear. The day was going horribly so far, not only did Saoirse get placed in Hufflepuff- she also was stuck with her elder sister Roisin. In fact the whole day so far had been hectic and frankly annoying.

First she crashed into the wrong wall at the train station after her father said it was Station 10 instead of 9 3/4, so now Saoirse was stuck with a purple welt on her cheek. Then her coat was caught and torn after she was shoved into one of the train compartment doors. In short, Saoirse was not having a good day. Rubbing a hand over the tender lump that covered the majority of her left cheek.

This whole experience so far felt like a nightmare and more than anything, Saoirse just wanted to wake up back in her overly large bed and that she didn't have to go to school until next year. A quiet groan left her throat as she sat down across the table from a girl-grabbing an apple with much disinterest. Taking small bites from the crisp fruit she looked around, her dark eyes meeting her sister's equally dark ones.

Roisin's eyes pierced Saoirse's soul as the older girl glanced at the fellow Hufflepuff in front of her sister. Nodding in that direction not so subtly, Saoirse finally caught onto what her sister wanted her to do, groaning to herself she turned towards Orianna. Clearing her throat she grinned and tried to be approachable as she spoke, "Uh-hello, I'm Saoirse..." Her grin turned awkward as she spoke, the grasp on her apple tightening as she tried to strike up a conversation.

The day so far for the young brunette female known as Orianna Lightfoot had been filled to the brim with a wide range of emotions and experiences that she had not anticipated for the day ahead as she traversed from her old life as a young girl living within the muggle world to leaving everything that she had ever known behind her to head to the ancient castle that played home to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to begin her first year of study at the famous magical school.

For only months prior did both her parents and Orianna herself learn the truth that she was in fact born of magical descent, but with her old life now behind her, the now first-year Hufflepuff sat alone for the moment at the large decorated table enjoying the feast spread out ahead of her listening to the rowdy chatter around her.

Gazing around the table ahead of her, Orianna spotted a large silver shaded plate and a tall crested goblet ahead of her to use at her leisure to enjoy the start of the school year feast that was only just beginning after the sorting ceremony began to draw to a close for another year, one after another the first years being sorted into their respected house by the old hat and joining the table decorated in the corresponding house colours as their first full evening at the school began but so far all that the young brunette could say was that the day had been nothing like she could have ever expected.

Placing a variety of food items upon her plate after taking a sip from her filled goblet of golden shaded liquid savouring the taste for the first time, slowly Orianna would start to enjoy the food as she relaxed into the bench beneath her keeping herself quiet and out of the conversations around her with not being one to really make conversation with her previous of experience when it came to meeting new children of all ages. Taking time to herself to process in her mind everything that had been happening that day from the train journey on the Hogwarts Express to the first viewing of the ancient castle that was Hogwarts from the small boats that the first years had entered across the lake on soon enough Orianna would hear a quiet voice nearby.

Not really paying to much attention to catch on to the exchange between the girl sat beside her and an older student as Ori was deep in thought reflecting over the day, her attention would suddenly turn to the young brunette sat beside her as she took the time to introduce herself as Saoirse as she grasped upon an apple from the feast. Smiling warmly, her hazel coloured eyes glancing over in the young girls direction Orianna finished off the mouthful of food that she had been enjoying before extending her small pale hand out across to the young girl in greeting.

"Hey Saoirse, It's nice to meet you. I'm Orianna" she replied in a soft melodic tone as she introduced herself to the fellow Hufflepuff first-year after all she may as well try and take the time to meet new people whenever she is able to as being away from her parents for the very first time in her life and no known family ties or friends at the ancient school at present the least Orianna could do was try and attempt to make the start of her school year a little bit more bearable and easy on herself.

Her features were pulled into a small expression is distaste as she tried to think of something to say back to Orianna. Searching her mind in a slightly panicked frenzy, she blurted out quickly, "Nice name, uh where are you from?" Saoirse's eyes widened as she realized what she said and cringed visibly-her anxiety had gotten the best of her. Great. Huffing under her breath, she took a bite of her apple-trying to make the conversation normal again.

Saoirse loved Hogwarts-her mother had described it as the Wizarding World's version of Wonderland. And every holiday her sisters would send her pictures of the grounds and around the school-Hogwarts was Saoirse and she was somehow part of it now. The Duende family had always known that it's youngest daughter was special but she was always over looked by her elder sisters-so her talent and genius was almost always forgotten. But now, she'd be able to become her own person. The old Saoirse Duende was gone and sitting at the Hufflepuff table-she'd become someone better.

Taking a sip of from her goblet-she looked down at the reflective golden drink she shrugged slightly, somewhat nervous to drink it.But, it wouldn't be poisoned...would it? Yes, Hogwarts wouldn't poison their own students...but would stop a Slytherin from trying to poison some first year Hufflepuff? Saoirse's eyes dimmed for a second as she realized what she had just thought-she was becoming biased like the others houses towards Slytherin House. Oh god, she shouldn't have done that. It was wrong and Hufflepuffs weren't supposed to be judgemental.

Becoming a proper Hufflepuff would be hard. Taking in Orianna's appearance-she eyes flickered over the girl's hazel eyes and smiled a bit, her voice somewhat hushed as she spoke, "I'm from Bangor but I lived in Greece up until a June." Saoirse laughed a bit remembering her time in Greece but the sounds slowly died down after a while.

Eating a little bit by bit as the conversation between herself and the other first-year named Saoirse sat beside her ensued, Orianna couldn't help but pick up on the girl's awkwardness which made her feel less alone in the world knowing that she herself had been feeling a little out of sorts throughout the day countless emotions taking over her thoughts and mind both positive and negative as she had made her arrival at the ancient school just hours before and the long journey she had taken alone to get there leaving behind the life that she had always known as well as her parents even if it was only temporary.

Smiling across at the anxiety-ridden girl sat beside her as she asked where Ori was from, Orianna gave her a reassuring smile to let her know that she was doing just fine with the conversation in her own opinion before she began to reply. "I'm from a small county on the north-western coast of England just below Scotland, you've probably never heard of it but its called Cumbria. It's basically in the middle of nowhere with a two-hour drive to the nearest city" she smiled informing the girl of where she happened to be from to the best of her ability knowing not many had heard of the area.

"Where about's are you from?" She asked with a smile curiously as she ate her meal curious of the girl's heritage as Saoirse replied that she was from Bangor from June after she had moved from Greece. "Oh, you're Greek? Apó poú eísai stin Elláda eísai?" Orianna beamed with excitement as she had often visited Greece as a child before she turned to ask the girl where about's in Greece she was from in the native greek language a huge smile upon her face as she looked across at Saoirse knowing she could see herself becoming good friends with the girl sat beside her over time.

Hearing how the girl had lived in Greece for an unknown amount of time right now, Orianna couldn't help but be extremely excited knowing that she had spent countless summers in Greece alongside her parents visiting her grandparents in Athens after they had decided to retire there around 5 years ago meaning that since she was able to talk as a young girl she had spent months at a time in Greece with her family learning about the Greek culture and happened to get herself basic knowledge to hold a conversation in greek due to the amount of time she had spent there but she was definitely not fluent in the language just yet even though she hoped to be one day.

The girl looked up, and Rish smiled. She loved making friends more than anything, so she was practically brimming with excitement. She looked like a nice girl anyways.
And apparently the remark she had made had caught her attention. Rish’s mind wandered to what they might do in the future, as friends.
Rish then snapped out of her thoughts, shaking her head. At least talk to her first, Her inner voice scolded.
She then looked at the girl. She looked like a shy person, and honestly she couldn’t blame her. But the thing that confused her is why the girl looked surprised, as if wondering why Rish would sit beside her.
Well, it’s not her fault that Rish made the most friends who were introverts. At least, that was the aura she was getting from the girl.
The girl’s eyes were still wide, and it looked like she was having an inner debate. She didn’t say anything, so Rish spoke.
“Hi, my name is Rishita. But most people call me Rish.” She said with a smile. Apparently that put the girl more at ease, and her expression softened. “So, how do you feel about getting into Hufflepuff?”

Duna walked into the great hall and marveled at the sight of the floating candles all over again. After taking with her muggle parents all summer she had almost forgotten what magic looked like. How had she gotten used to this last year?

Speaking of last year... Duna had been very timid. Not making many friends and only focusing on trying to get through the year without falling off a moving staircase or ending up in the hospital wing.

But this year, Duna decided, would be different! She had gotten a growth spurt over the summer and with that came new confidence, despite the fact that she was now only 4’10.

Duna took a confident step towards the Hufflepuff table... which quickly turned into a shy walk as she saw all the kids that crowded the hall. She had been so mesmerized by all the lights and colors she hadn’t even noticed the excited chatter of reuniting friends and new first years.

Duna took a deep breath, calming her nerves, and walked over to the Hufflepuff table. She sat down and set her books on the table, one being her sketch pad, and the other was all about magic plants. Duna had always loved flowers and was excited to learn all about magic ones.

She waved hello.

Much Love,
Duna

The girl seemed to not have heard Callista's reply, which made sense. It was what she had suspected at first anyway... that no one would be able to hear her over the chatter of everyone else in the hall. However, the girl also seemed to be thinking about something, so maybe that was another reason why she hadn't seemed to have heard Callista. As she was thinking, the girl looked a bit confused, for some reason. Maybe she assumed that Callista would talk to her?

"Hi, my name is Rishita. But most people call me Rish," the girl introduced.

Rish, Callista repeated in her mind. At least now she knew what her name was. Since the girl had introduced herself already, it was only polite that Callista should do the same. Her father and mother
had taught her to be very polite, so Callista introduced herself as well.

Clearing her throat and speaking a little louder this time, Callista said, "Um, hi, I'm Callista. Callista Lovis." Thankfully this time it was loud enough to be heard, although Callista didn't know that.

The girl - Rish - proceeded to ask Callista how she felt about being sorted into Hufflepuff. Thinking, Callista remembered the Sorting Hat's words. "I think that... Hufflepuff is a good house for me. I feel like... eventually it will feel like home, even if... it wasn't what I expected," Callista said slowly. She was always less shy when she was thinking. She loved having thoughtful and meaningful conversations. "Um, what about you?" she added.

Out of the corner of her eye, Callista noticed a girl near her with short, dark brown hair waving. Callista turned, surprised. The girl hadn't mentioned her, and she seemed to be waving in a general direction, not to specificially one person.

"Um... hi? A-are you waving to me?" Callista said cautiously. After her first encounter, perhaps she gained some more confidence, but her voice was now getting close to her normal level of noise, which was a bit softer than average. A normal person would be able to hear her voice okay if they were paying attention.

“Um, hi. I’m Callista. Callista Lovis.” The girl said a little louder. Rish smiled, thinking that was a nice name.
When Rish asked her about Hufflepuff, she was half expecting Callista to say that she hated Hufflepuff because it was the ‘potato house’ or something, because she’d heard a lot of remarks already.
Thankfully, Callista was not the same. She seemed to ponder the answer for a while before answering.
"I think that... Hufflepuff is a good house for me. I feel like... eventually it will feel like home, even if... it wasn't what I expected," Callista said. Rish smiled, happy and grateful that she accepted the house. “Um, what about you?”
Rish looked up, thinking for a moment before speaking.
“Well, I don’t really know. I expected to be in Ravenclaw, really. And the hat did have a hard time choosing...” She started with, and immediately mentally facepalmed. Really?! she thought, “But Hufflepuff is great. I admire loyalty a lot, it was exactly what I needed when I came to Hogwarts.”
Rish smiled, and mentally sighed in relief. Great save.
Suddenly, Callista looked to the side. Rish looked, too, and realized that there was another girl there, waving in a general direction. Rish furrowed her eyes in confusion, and Callista just looked surprised.
“Um... hi?” Callista said, just loud enough for the brown-haired girl to hear, “A-are you waving to me?”
Rish just decided to say nothing, and wait for the girl to answer.
