Marissa giggled at James' compliment, and that made James blush. Oddly enough, it made Marissa blush too. James liked her giggle. For lack of a better term, it was... cute? For a few moments, Marissa didn't look as shy, and James smiled.
But then, it was almost as if she snapped back into shy mode. James felt disappointed. He had liked those few moments when she was just laughing.
Then, Marissa seemed to be conflicted with how to answer James’ question on whether or not she talked. She stared for a moment, but then sighed at herself and shook her head. James continued to gaze at her quizzically, wondering what she was trying to say.
Marissa pointed at her throat and shook her head again, helping James understand what she was saying. The answer that she gave was simply “No.”
James felt sorry for her. Well, he felt sorry for this whole situation, if that made any sense.
Marissa placed her book back into her back and then turned back to look at James. She gave him an apologetic smile that made James feel a little better. Just a little bit.
“Oh.” James breathed out. He didn’t know what else he could say or if there was anything else he could say.
He fiddled with his fingers for a moment or two more, still making the silence uncomfortable.

Marissa did not like the silence. Congratulations, you just made this whole thing awkward. She shook her head, as if she was trying to shake the thoughts out of her head. She sighed and took a deep breath. You said hello to Anatole, you can definitely talk to this boy.
Mentally preparing herself, Marissa finally tried to speak. “F-Fri-Friend?”. She took a deep breath again, talking for her was very hard. It look a lot of energy and courage for her to talk to someone.
She wanted to be friends with James, but talking was the only reason why she was not making friends so easily. She had to keep trying, it would be not an easy ride. Mari smiled again nervously, apparently smiling makes people like you more. “S-sorry. I-I”. She paused, frowning. Come on, you can do this Marissa. “I-I am s-sel-lectively mute.”. She took a deep breath again. She had not spoken so many words at one time in such a long time. Mari started to tear up this time, she was getting super scared that she messed up, also as she was extremely nervous. What if he laughed at her like Anatole did? She played with the buttons on her coat, trying not to crack under pressure.

James had started to look down at the ground in the silence that surrounded the two of them. What was he supposed to do now? What had he done wrong to make this so awkward?
Suddenly, a voice he had not heard before broke through the dense silence.
"F-Fri-Friend?"
James looked up from his feet. Marissa was the only one there, and she was standing there, right in front of him, looking at him. James gazed back at her, probably for too long, because then Marissa added some more words.
“S-sorry. I-I" she continued, "I-I am s-sel-lectively mute.”
James finally came to and found his won voice.
"No, it's okay!" he said reassuringly (of course, James could only hope that he sounded reassuring). "Yeah." he continued, "Friend." he repeated back to her.
His hands flinched for a moment towards her. But he stopped them in time. He wanted to give her a friendly hug, or at least a handshake after seeing her so... sad? No, just shy? Whatever...
"Yes. I would like to be your friend." James finished.
He smiled back at Marissa, hoping to form a solid trust between them. He had a feeling their current position was very fragile, and he didn't want to scare her or anything by moving to quick or something like that. James didn't have any experience with selectively mute people.
"Sorry, I don't have much experience with people who are selectively mute." James admitted, trying to make conversation, "Expect Maxian, of course. Maxian, he's uh... he's a... friend." James tried to fix his slip-up.
Dang it, James! She'd think you're crazy if you started talking about Maxian! Or Flare... or Lachoneus... or Aria, Eve, Jack, Vyxen, 14, Elysia, Aise, Jackson, April, or just any of them! Stop! Stop thinking!
All of this James mentally yelled at himself.

Something
Ava walked out of the castle. She needed fresh air. She felt like she was held hostage in the castle when she actually was not. The girl loved being outside and having to be in the Hogwarts castle was great and all, however, it involved a lot of classes. And classes involved.. staying inside. Sure, when it was actually winter she could take it, but when it was the middle of March and it was pretty worm, the girl just could not stand it.
The girl walked out with her camera in her left hand, sketchbook, and pencil in the right one, ready to get inspired. Being outside always have Ava energy. Like she could have been inside, dying out of sleep deprivation, then go outside and run a marathon. Ok, maybe that was a little bit of an exaggeration, but it did. Somehow.
The girl took a deep breath and look around. While scanning the area, she saw two people she did not recognize, which surprised her, because if she did not talk to someone personally, she would see them somewhere. In the hallways, in classes - anywhere, to be honest. And these two - nowhere.
Ava saw that they also were not facing her. Looking towards them, she was astonished by the view that they would see if they only backed away a couple feet. An idea suddenly came to her mind.
She looked at her left hand, at her camera. She smirked and walked up behind them. Far enough to capture the absolutely gorgeous view, but also... Close enough for them to hear the click, and that was what she did not calculate.
Click!
The girl's eyes widened immediately. 'Well, that was not supposed to happen!' she started freaking out, but it was too late. She was sure that these two heard her. 'Well, here we go. Socializing!' Ava thought and smiled.
"Hey! Ava SIlver, Slytherin at your service. This is truly an astonishing view!" the girl ran up to them to get a little closer and waited for an answer.

Marissa flinched at the sound of click. She was not a fan of having taken pictures of. Instantly, Mari hid behind the tree nearby as she did not want anymore pictures taken.
She looked worryingly over to James, as if to ask for help. She just made a new friend and hoped to become closer but then it was ruined by a stranger who took a picture of them. She climbed up onto the passive tree and sat down on a strong branch. She took a deep breath and look at the view. Wow, this view is pretty amazing. I wish Claryssa was here to see it.
Mari looked down to find that Ava approached James, hearing her speak something. She sighed, talking to too many people at once was not on her list for today. She already did her challenge and spoke a sentence, no more pushing for her. Mari took out her book again and started to read, muttering stuff under her breath at times as well as checking on James and Ava to see how they were doing.
Marissa felt a tang of jealousy. Was this girl planning to take away her brand new friend? She did not want to lose James as a friend, he seemed like a nice and caring person. She sighed, shaking the jealous thought out of her head and looked down at her book

Everything was going so nice! James had the feeling that Marissa never talked to anyone, and she had talked to him! James' heart felt like it might burst with joy. Marissa was so sweet, James thought.
James smiled at her, yet again, not knowing what else to say, but this time, he didn't feel like he needed to say anything. He had made a friend. And he was now a friend to Marissa.
Click
James blinked in confusion, and looked away from Marissa. There, standing only a few feet away, was another girl. One with a camera. One who had just taken a picture of James and Marissa. James' face immediately became flushed and red.
"Hey! Ava Silver, Slytherin at your service. This is truly an astonishing view!" she said, coming closer to the two of them.
James went to look back at Marissa, but she was gone in a flash. Marissa took her place behind the tree, hiding from the newcomer, before climbing up to a high but decently sturdy branch. James sighed in disappointment. He took one more glance up at Marissa before turning to greet the new person. The way she had introduced herself seemed friendly enough, James thought.
James nodded politely as Ava drew nearer.
"James Lachoneus, Hufflepuff." he said in a formal voice that was so unlike him. He looked behind him to see what Ava had mentioned as an astonishing view. That was when James knew that she was right and finally noticed the beautiful scenery around him.
"Yeah, it is a nice view." he agreed.
He supposed that there might have been something, or someone, that distracted him from the other beautiful thing to his left.
James growled at himself internally for thinking such things, but then stopped himself.
Ugh, James! Stop being like Flare! He thought.
James smiled at her, yet again, not knowing what else to say, but this time, he didn't feel like he needed to say anything. He had made a friend. And he was now a friend to Marissa.

Ava looked up, towards the girl on the tree. "Do I really look that ugly?" she turned to the James guy with fake concern on her face. "Like, do I scare you off?" the girl looked at the boy and then at the girl again. She was now reading something...
The girl quickly ran up behind the tree that the girl was on and has shown the boy to not tell anything. She climbed up behind the girl on a branch a bit higher than she was, making sure that she did not see her. James' friend could not see her for this to work.
She took out her camera again, making sure the girl could not hear her as well. She took a couple pictures and made sure one of them fell on the book the girl was reading. She quickly moved for her to not see her again and started sketching something in it. After the picture was finished, she moved onto the lower branch the girl was sitting on.
"Hey!" Ava looked at her and pointed at the picture she just took. "Do you like it?" it has shown a shot of the girl from above, reading the book. The leaves of the tree they were both sitting on gave it a nice touch, adding some more color to it.
After she got her attention, Ava has shown her the sketchbook. The drawing she just did was the drawing of the same picture Ava just pointed at. "Nooow, do you like this?" she smiled and waited for her answer.
"Oops, maybe I should introduce myself. Ava Silver, Slytherin at your service."

Marissa heard some ruffling on tree, it might have been an animal for all she could know. She looked down from her book and saw James standing on his own. Where did that girl go? Was I just imagining her? Am I going crazy? She looked at the James with a confused expression, as if to ask ‘Where did she go?’
Marissa squealed instantly as the picture of herself landed on her book. Where did that picture come from? Who is stalking me? Oh gods, why do people have to be so confusing? She continued to panic, looking at the picture. The picture itself was nice but she did not like that fact that it was taken without consent from herself. Mari saw the angle in which the picture was taken, so she instantly looked up towards there. No was sitting there. She panicked slightly, whoever it was, they were fast and scary.
Suddenly hearing Ava from a branch below, this time Marissa screamed. She peered down at the sketchbook, seeing her drawing. Wanting to get a closer look, Mari tried to climb down to where Ava was. Accidentally slipping on a branch, Marissa suddenly fell from the tree. She crash landed half onto James with a thud, groaning. She landed right by his feet.

Why not be like Flare? She's part of-
No! Stop it, 14! You too, Lachoneus! I know why I can't be like Flare! Or like any of them! Because... because... because UGH!
James was arguing with himself in his mind, and because of that, he had totally and almost completely zoned out.
If anybody else sees them, then... well, I don't know what would happen, but it would be bad!
Hey! Stop trying to hide us!
C'mon, I don't like it either, but-
But what!?
Flare, please calm down! Wait, no! ACK! Stop it!
James shook his head, and shut down his brain, blocking out his thoughts.
It was then that James realized that Ava was no longer in front of him. He turned around, looking for her, wondering where she had gone. He spun in a circle multiple times, but did not find any trace of Ava. Puzzling, he looked back up at Marissa. But she was giving him a confused look in return. It seemed like a questioning look. Had she not seen her? Well, James knew Marissa had seen Ava originally, because that's why she went up into the tree. But had Ava... disappeared or something!?
James' question was suddenly answered as Ava came back into view. She was in the tree with Marissa! But Marissa didn't see her!
Before James could do anything, Marissa was falling from the tree. Reflexively, James went to catch her, but eh wasn't quick enough. Marissa half landed on James, knocking them both down, Marissa landing at (or more accurately, on) his feet/legs.
James got the wind knocked out of him easily, and he lay there for a moment, gasping for breath.
Then, clutching the grass with his hands, he hoisted himself up and reached out to help Marissa up. One, to help her and, two, because she was hurting his legs.
James helped her to a sitting position, and then got his legs out from under him. They were both sitting next to each other now, probably bruised in a few places.
"Are you okay?" James asked, breathing somewhat heavily.

Marissa hated heights. That is why she panicked whilst she was falling from the tree, not really wanted to die that way. As soon as Marissa nearly hit the ground, she saw James try to catch her.
Thud.
Both Marissa and James crashed into each other, which hurt more than it look. Mari instantly groaned, she felt like she was just run over a truck. As James helped her up into a sitting position, Mari nodded in a thanks but instantly winced. She probably had bruises all along her lower back and arms. She looked down to her hands to see bruises already forming as well as small cuts. She sniffled slightly, a few tears running down her cheeks.
Finally realising she was not the only one hurt, she looked over to James with a worried expression. She did not mean to hurt him, but felt extremely guilty as she was the one that fell and hit him. She quickly analysed him to see if he had any serious cuts or bruises, she had a guilty but worried expression painted across her face. Suddenly Mari felt dizzy, everything around Marissa started to spin. She clutched her head instantly and curled into a small ball, this was not what she had planned for today.
