"You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil"

—The Sorting Hat

The Great Hall is a large room with four long tables where students of each House sit during the day and at mealtimes. A majestic enchanted ceiling that mirrors the outside weather is watching over people in the room.

When you just pass the door from the Entrance Hall, Hufflepuff's table is a bit far. This table is the fourth one, after Gryffindor and Ravenclaw on the left and Slytherin on the right. Hufflepuff students are sharing meals and good talks at this table, and you will always be  warmly
welcomed there.

Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff. She had been sorted into Hufflepuff. Her mind whirling with what this would mean for the rest of her years at Hogwarts, Jess walked over to her house's table and sat down, glancing around at the other students seated around her. They seemed relatively nice, she supposed. After all, this was the house of the loyal and kind kids, so at least Jess would (hopefully) be able to make some friends here. She had always figured she'd get into Ravenclaw, as all her Muggle friends knew her as the "smart kid" and she had spent almost all the time since she had found out she was a witch trying to read up on spells and the history of witchcraft. Nevertheless, Jess was excited to finally be here, in the school she had visited in her dreams nearly every night since she had gotten her acceptance letter. After all, it wasn't every kid that got to find out that they, unlike their parents, had magical abilities, and were going to be sent off to a school full of others like them to learn how to control this magic for the next seven years.

Lost in her thoughts, Jess barely noticed the kids sitting around her, electing rather to simply sit and stare down at her hands, which were folded in her lap. Eventually, though, her marvel at being sorted into Hufflepuff house faded, and she started to look around shyly. Everyone seemed to be talking to each other already, and Jess wasn't too sure how to enter their conversations and introduce herself without seeming rude. She couldn't spot anyone she knew around her, either, which was unfortunate. Hoping that somebody would start talking to her, Jess sat up straighter and looked around.

Callista sat down at the edge of the table, keeping her eyes down. She focused on the food, taking a little bit. Her mother’s words ran through her head. Don’t take more than you can eat, she remembered her mother saying in Japanese. Callista had nodded and said, ”Hai!”, which meant “yes” in Japanese, one of the few words/phrases she could actually say in Japanese. She focused on her plate, waiting for the other students to be finished sorting. Deep down, she knew the Sorting Hat was right. She did want to make friends, and if that made her “friendly”... well, so be it. She was a little surprised by how accurate the hat had been. It had listed practically all of her characteristics, as if it was rummaging through a glass box, seeing her true colors. Shy, quiet, nervous, but also kind, loyal, and maybe friendly. Callista shuffled her feet, which were still wearing her sneakers from the platform. She gazed into her goblets, which was filled with choices - water, juice, some kind of foamy golden drink... She took a sip of everything. The water tasted like... well, water. The juice seemed fruity. It tasted good. The foamy one... it was sweet, and sparkly, like sparkling soda. She finally looked up and around. She looked over at the Slytherin table, searching for one boy in particular. Then her gaze shifted to the Ravenclaw table... she didn’t look behind her at the Gryffindor table. She sighed quietly. She bet even if someone talked to her, they wouldn’t be able to hear her soft voice over the noise of the loud room.
In the back of her mind, she heard the boy remark something to the Slytherins, probably defending the girl next to him. She wondered if they knew each other. Another girl next to her started chatting with them. She ignored them and instead took out her book, Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer. She had started to read it on the train, and was soon lost in the evil doings of Artemis, the loyal choices of his bodyguard Butler, and the brave and witty remarks of Holly.

Rish sat down, unsure of what to think about her Sorting. Her mother had been a Ravenclaw, and she was almost certain she would be too, with her love of books and everything to do with learning. But while thinking about it, she realized that she also loved making new friends, and loved to be around people in general, being an extremely extroverted person.
She remembered when she used to be unsure of Hufflepuff, and she very nearly snorted. Thank goodness she wasn’t fixated on going into Ravenclaw anymore, because the very atmosphere of the Hufflepuff table riled her up. People were talking, smiling, making new friends. In that moment she wondered why everyone despised Hufflepuff. They were the loyal kids, the friendly kids, which are the very people she loved being around. And she was finally at Hogwarts, after all, which was her dream ever since she heard about magic, so she was all in for whatever house.
She tried to ignore one Slytherin boy jeering, pointing a finger at our table
She shrugged it off, and looked beside her. She was at the very edge, on the far right side, so there was only one person beside her. There was a girl, reading a book, and seemingly didn’t notice that Rish had sat beside her at all.
She looked at the cover, and smiled. She hadn’t read the book before, but just seeing someone with her same love of books at Hufflepuff made her smile.
“Hey,” Rish said to the girl before she realized she might be disturbing her. Maybe she would take about the book, to grab her attention. “Is that Artemis Fowl?”

There were several things spinning around the mind of Lucia Fox as she sat through the Sorting Ceremony.

The first was that she was hungry. She had eaten a little on the train, of course, but still - that had been several hours ago and her stomach was complaining bitterly.

The second was that Professor Solomon Lear, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was back. He was back. But, in Lucia's mind, the most disturbing thing was that he hadn't offered any explanation as to where he had been for the past - how long had it been? At least a few months. Had he been kidnapped? Had he run away? Had he contracted some deathly illness and only just recovered? Lucia didn't know, and that was what made it all the worse.

The third was that her little sister Briar was standing in the line of First Years, trying not to look nervous. Actually, she was doing a pretty good job of it, but when you've lived with a person as long as they'd been alive you can usually tell when they're lying - even if they're only lying with the expression on their face. When the Hat announced Briar's placement in Ravenclaw, both sisters breathed out a breath neither knew they had been holding. Briar grinned and offered a wave to her sister as she skipped off to the Ravenclaw house table, and Lucia waved her hand in return, mouthing, "Congrats!"

The fourth was that it had been a whole year to this day since Lucia herself had been Sorted. Lucia smiled and inwardly rolled her eyes as she remembered how confused she had been about being Sorted into Hufflepuff, how scared - but now she knew that, really, Huffles were some of the nicest people she had ever met. Second-year Lucia would wear her yellow crest with pride - and the colour seemed to be growing on her, as proved by the striped black and yellow headband nestled in her hair.

The fifth and final was how long the Ceremony was taking. Merlin, how long did it take to Sort a few hundred students into Houses? Apparently, several hours, and Lucia had to fight not to pull a book from deep inside her robes and read it under the table rather than watching. She stifled a yawn.

And, finally, the Ceremony was over and food appeared on the tables, food of all types. Lucia helped herself to a Sunday lunch style meal with beef, carrots and Yorkshire puddings, poured gravy on her plate and started to eat, watching the new students as they talked between themselves and tried to get answers to their questions.
She let out a happy sigh - Hogwarts, she knew, would always be not just her school, but a second home.

@Rish Sen
I'm sorry about the late reply, I noticed that you didn't mention me (like I did above), so I hadn't realized that you had interacted with Callista. Again, I'm very sorry!

Callista looked up as a girl's voice said cheerily, "Hey, is that Artemis Fowl?" Callista blinked. Does she know the series? she wondered. The girl had dark skin and black hair, and wore pink glasses that were in an almost half moon shape. She was smiling at her, and seemed unconcerned with the clatter of everyone else.

Callista realized that the girl was probably waiting for a reply, and said softly, "Yes... um, do you know it?" Callista fingered her bookmark, one made of dark blue silk with a cute cat face at the top. This girl seemed to be very positive, quite the opposite of Callista. It made her uncomfortable to be the center of this girl’s attention. Why me? she thought, a little confused. There were practically a million other people the girl could have spoken to, so why her? Then again, there was a little part of her that was glad someone had reached out to her. One, she wouldn’t have had the courage to reach out first, and two, she probably would have sat through the entire dinner silent and alone if this young lady hadn’t spoken to her. Callista kept on fingering her bookmark anxiously. Should I... introduce myself? she wondered. But she didn't quite have the courage to do that.

A familiar feeling filled Phoenix as she made her way to the Hufflepuff table. It was the similar feeling she felt last year when she first started Hogwarts, hope and anxiety. Her fellow Hufflepuff classmates chattering away at the table, seeing many faces she knew. Phoenix had the advantage to sit where ever she pleased as the first years have not arrived yet. Once she found a seat, the anxiety had calmed down a bit. As she waited, she mentally reviewed the map of Hogwarts and which routes she would take to get to her classes. At last, the Sorting Ceremony started.
During the Sorting Ceremony, Phoenix at first payed attention to the new students that sorted into Hufflepuff. Some first-year students looked beyond excited to join our house, and others seemed liked their world had crumbled into pieces. Phoenix did not look much older than them, but she felt grown. She knew soon the students will adjust to Hogwarts and love their house with all their hearts, just like she did. As the ceremony slowly came to an end so did Phoenix's ability to quiet her stomach. Her stomach begged for food.
The smell of the food made its way to the hungry students, Phoenix was beyond excited to eat. Grabbing her utensils in a hurry, she ate. After a couple of bites, she placed her utensils down on the plate to drink water, and reminded herself to eat with manners. Now eating with table manners, she eavesdropped on the other students' conversation. A bad habit of hers. In her mind, she yelled at herself for eavesdropping. She decided to stop and go back to her thoughts. She wondered how her second year at Hogwarts will be.

With peace and love.

September 1st, 2020.
The day so far had been a wide rush of mixed emotions as the first-year Hufflepuff began her journey into the world of wizardry. From having to leave her muggle parents behind for the very first time heading out alone the train journey alone seemed to have taken days due to her rush of excitement and eagerness to start her new adventure as a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, then all of the first-year students upon their arrival to the area had been ushered away from the other school years and sifted into a series of boats that soon after would descend the lake across where they would all experience the sight of the ancient magical school for the very first time.

It was safe to say that the day so far had felt like she was living some kind of dream that she would awaken from back in her hotel room in London at any moment, surely this was too good to be true and it was only the very start of the year, classes and school life hadn't even truly begun yet. But after undertaking the daunting task of the sorting ceremony to which the young brunette would be sorted into the house of Hufflepuff, now it was time to truly relax and enjoy the rest of the evening... the first evening without any parents watching her every move, the first evening here at Hogwarts.

Jumping down from the seat where she had been sorted the young girl makes her way across to the large Hufflepuff table to join the rest of her housemates nervously sitting down in silence on the table of gold decoration as she watched the rest of the first years go through the sorting ceremony after her clapping after each sorting with a tender smile upon her rosen lips. Then it all started the feast... and boy did Orianna not realise just how hungry that she actually was after her long day of travel as the food presented itself ahead of her and the fellow students, their goblets filling with a colourful fruit tasting juice.

Tucking in almost instantly the young Hufflepuff first year enjoyed a wide array of delicacies and food as she remained silent unsure how to strike up a conversation with those sat around her but surely she would make a friend sooner rather than later right? At least that is what she truly wished for in that moment of time to kill the awkward silence inside her brain as she tried to adjust to her new life the tiredness from the journey setting in as a gentle yawn escaped through her lips.

Why was she so unlucky?!

Well, could it be called unlucky? As Edna marched from the sorting hat to the end of the Hufflepuff table, the girl felt her stomach sinking. Her gaze drifted downward as she crossed her arms. Edna was clearly very unhappy. She hadn't wanted to be a stupid badger! She wanted to be a cool griffin! Like her father! The girl sat down, huffing as she grit her teeth and threw a tiny mini tantrum in her own mind.

As the sorting ceremony continued, Edna thought all sorts of terrible things. She thought about how she'd love to grab that dumb hat and stomp on it! The girl thought about how her father had told her she was a shoe-in for Gryffindor, and that she'd make the house proud. That she'd make him proud. How was she supposed to do that in Hufflepuff?!

Edna grunted as she just slammed her head into the table before her. She hated this. Edna wanted to be with the cool kids who got to go on brave adventures! That's what Gryffindor was, right!? She continued muttering to herself quietly. However, even her completely shattered hopes and dreams of Gryffindor-dom didn't stop the girl was reaching out to shovel bread rolls into her mouth. Food made everything better.

Interacting with @Edna Watts
The first-year opposite Lucia wasn't in a good mood - that much she could tell from the way she slammed her head into the table so the second-year could only see her mop of red hair, and ate her bread rolls as if they had done something bad to her.
Seeing as Hufflepuff was, after all, the house of kind people, and this kid seriously needed help, Lucia thought she'd demonstrate some Huffleness and step in.
"Hey," she said awkwardly, then asked (not without a nervous tone lacing her voice), "Are you ok?"
Lucia could only guess what was up with the girl, and her immediate first idea was that she thought she had been placed in the wrong house, as Lucia had thought. The way Lucia herself had reacted had been different, of course - just looking around and not talking, extremely confused - but Lucia couldn't think of any other reason for this first-year's distress. Unless homesickness had a part to play? But it was only the Feast, surely she couldn't be homesick yet!
Then, Lucia realised she hadn't introduced herself. She held out a hand to the girl, then realised that the hand in question - her right - was still holding the knife in it. She blushed and quickly put the knife down on her plate before holding the hand out again.
"I'm Lucia, Lucia Fox. I'm a second year."
