Jax had left his very first flying class in a hurry, eager to get away from the weird teacher. Dude was a little much, in all honesty. Reminded him of his adoptive father, which Jax did NOT want to deal with anytime soon.

Our little emo boy had snuck upstairs, bag slung over his left shoulder, head bowed low to avoid the glares of older students, and eye contact from teachers on their break. After the panic attack just five minutes before, he was in no mood to be pulled over and questioned.

His hands were still shaking and the pounding of blood in his head and wrists and neck hadn't gone away. The young boy had been just about to sneak into the Ravenclaw dorms, planning to force himself into a nap, when the DADA teacher had made an appearance at the end of the hall. A brief moment of blind panic later, he'd stumbled backwards into the dilapidated door which led to the abandoned toilets. Well s***.

Heels click-clacking against the stone floor, and then she was gone. Jax slid against the nearest wall, relief making him lightheaded. Okay. So he wouldn't be yelled at. Great. Putting his head between his knees, the small boy closed his eyes, covering his ears. God. There were too many things going on at once. Too many voices outside, overlapping each other, footsteps on the polished stone floors and teachers shouting. Too many people living and breathing in the same building. It made it hard to focus, hard to stay calm. He could feel and hear everything, every little scritch and scratch, and it all pooled in his head and behind his eyes, in his temples and down his throat. He hated Hogwarts with a burning passion. Today was one of those days he'd give anything to be back home.

Home with his adoptive family, to hear their laughter through the halls and feel Jester's arms around him. Hear Kennedy humming musicals to him. She'd loved Hamilton. Used to talk everyone's ears off before her looser husband got in the picture. Jax could practically hear her voice in his ear. 'Life doesn't discriminate', she'd used to sing while brushing her golden hair every morning, yanking on the brush so hard it was a wonder she hadn't ripped all her hair out. '...between the sinners and the saints, it takes and it takes...'

Using the wall to pull himself up, focusing on the memory of Kenndey's voice, icy blue eyes half closed, Jax stumbled towards the mirror, fingers groping his back pocket for the stick of eyeliner Jessie had sent him. His twin sister had thought he'd be insulted. Jax grinned. Little did she know he loved makeup. Came hand in hand with being gay, he supposed.

"But we keep living anyway," he murmured, uncapping the eyeliner and carefully pulling his eyelid down. "We rise and we fall and we make our mistakes," pressing ever so gently, he left a dark mark on his skin. "And if there's a reason I'm still alive when so many have died..." Another dark mark on his other lid. Not quite even, but it was his first time. "...Then I'm willing to wait for it!" BAH it still wasn't good. Okay, he'd make the other one a bit thicker. "Love doesn't discriminate,"

He didn't get to finish either the eyeliner nor the song. Because someone walked in on him. He flinched, pencil leaving a thin dark mark leading into his hairline before it slipped between his pale fingers and rolled to the feet of the newcomer.

Jess was walking down the hall, her mind a jumble of thoughts. For one, she was replaying her exit out of the Hufflepuff common room that morning in her mind like a loop, over and over and over again until she was sick of the image. Well, she had never really been fond of the memory, since her tripping over her robes and falling face flat onto the ground outside of the common room wasn't exactly something she wanted to treasure in her mind for all the years to come. Also occupying some mind space was her Charms assignment, which Jess was both excited for and dreading. On one hand, it would be letting her practice magic, which was a concept she was still getting used to. On the other, it was homework. Since her sorting into Hufflepuff instead of Ravenclaw, the house that she had expected to get into, Jess had become less intensely intertwined with her assignments, more interested in making friends and trying to fit in with the other students in the castle than perfectly completing her assignments. Then again, Jess still wanted to get high grades, since that would mean she could earn house points and be liked by other Hufflepuffs. Thoughts of bread and potatoes and pudding were also floating around Jess's mind, tightening her stomach as she longed for food. She could always sneak into the kitchens, Jess thought, but she quickly discarded this idea as she had absolutely no clue where the kitchens actually were, and had to admit that there was no way she was actually going to do something that would get her into trouble.

Caught up in her own (many) thoughts, Jess hardly noticed who was in front of her before it was too late. Looking up, she spotted the girl, the older Slytherin who had threatened Jess in the library earlier. Shit, Jess thought, and hastily slid into the room right next to her, unaware of what it actually was. She closed the door quickly and leaned back against it, closing her eyes and breathing deeply as she prayed that the girl hadn't seen her. It was only after several seconds that Jess opened her eyes and saw with some surprise that she wasn't alone in the- she looked around- the abandoned bathroom, it seemed. There was a boy standing there staring at her, a boy devoid of the usual Hogwarts robes and with a thick smear of eyeliner smudged across his face. He was staring down at her feet, where a quick glance down showed a pencil laying there, unmoving.

"Oh crap," Jess thought, then realized she had said it aloud and blushed. "Sorry about that." She bent to pick up the eyeliner, hoping that the redness would disappear from her cheeks before she straightened back up. She stepped closer to the boy, offering him the eyeliner, and wondered why she didn't feel as nervous as usual around him. It was probably because she was still caught up in her narrow escape of the other girl, Jess figured. She simply didn't have enough room in her brain to be worrying about tripping that morning, her Charms homework, her empty stomach, the girl, and this new boy all at once.

Over the years, the abandoned bathrooms had become something of a quiet retreat to Illowy. Granted, it didn't always hold the best memories, especially from her first year, but at least it was quiet and usually empty of life. The girl had been retreated there for a while, set up in her usual tuck away behind one of the pillared stalls, quietly doodling in the margins of her parchment as she studied. However it was clear she wasn't the only one seeking some level of refuge as the door burst open. She peaked around slightly to see a Ravenclaw boy. No one from her class, but she couldn't argue that he seemed upset. Part of her wondered if she ought to do anything about it, try to help or comfort him about whatever problem he seemed to be facing... but he seemed to find some comfort in himself.

He picked himself up and Illowy resumed her original position, assuming he was going to leave until she heard him softly singing to himself. Not that she had any idea what the song was about or where it was from, given Illowy had very minimal interaction with the Muggle world aside from the few things she'd picked up over the years, but that wasn't saying much. All the same, she could appreciate the lyrics. Yet even that moment of ease seemed shattered as yet another first year bumbled into the bathroom. The girl sighed through her nose, starting to think a peaceful, quiet afternoon hiding was falling out of the question at this point. Perhaps in another time she would've just packed up her things and left without a word. That was a time of better innocence and less discomfort at the idea of eyes on her. Especially from first years who just... couldn't understand.

No, for now, she'd try to wait them out and maybe they'd skip on their merry way so she could escape unnoticed.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

It was usually impossible for Jax to blush, given his skin was as pale as porcelain and didn't permit it. Yet, crimson colored his cheeks as he nabbed the eyeliner pencil from the girl's finger. "It's okay," he said, the line of eyeliner which was extending into his hairline seemingly burning him. It was just his luck his sister hadn't sent any makeup remover. "You startled me 'sall." This was a good time to remind the reader what our Jackson looked like. Thin and white as sheet, with awkwardly long limbs for an 11 year old. He'd thrown on a Linkin Park hoodie and his ripped up pair of jeans. Stuffed in the back pocket of the jeans was a small notebook, just thin enough to look natural.

Giving a sort of miffled smile, Jax slipped into the nearest stall, planning on grabbing some toilet paper and using it wipe the makeup away. When wo and behold, his eyes feel on yet another girl. "Dear fuckin god," he let slip, taking a hasty step backwards. "Did I walk into the chick's washroom? If so I'm so fuckin sorry." How had he gone from singing to himself in an abandoned bathroom to like...dealing with two chicks? How did that happen? Grabbing some toilet paper he walked over to the sink and started wiping away the messed up makeup away, hands shaking a bit. "I'll be out of your hair in a second, sorry, sorry. I thought no one used this washroom anymore, I swear." Great. He'd be even more of a laughin stalk than usual, how fuckin fantastic. First Alyx had beat the crap out of him, left all sorts of bruises which had not gone away. Now he'd walked in on the chicks.

As much as he hated the No Boys In The Girls Dorm thing, maybe they should have cast the same spell on bathrooms. It was pretty stupid now that he thought about it. He was bi, leaning towards guys, so technically if anything were to happen, it would happen in the boys' dormitory, not the other way around. Although the chances of anything happening were slim to none in the first place, considering literally everyone hated him.

The makeup wasn't going anywhere. Fuck. Pulling the eyeliner pencil from his pocket, Jax let out a small groan upon noticing the label. Water proof. Who the hell needed waterproof makeup? "Well fuck," he grumbled, shoving it back in his pocket. They hadn't even learned that cleaning spell yet. He was dead, he was so dead. There was absolutely no way he could walk out of the bathroom like that. "I'm gonna kill her..." Jessie Lockwood could go suck a sock. He'd never hated his twin sister as much as he did right then.

Illowy pricked up a bit when she realized footsteps were starting towards her hiding place, and the girl closed her eyes, mentally cursing herself and the situation. Icy pale eyes glanced up, unamused as the lad stumbled upon her. Unfazed, the girl said nothing as she stood and lifted the strap of her bag onto her shoulder and emerged from the stall as the boy stumbled away, fussing to himself now about the situation.

"It use to be a girls' bathroom. This bathroom hasn't been in operation in decades." she explained flatly. Illowy had been told on more then once she wasn't always the friendliest person when first glanced at. The girl was small in frame and stature, with pale skin that was only intensified by her dark hair. It had often been said as well that her pale blue eyes had a ghostly way of appearing to see straight through a person as opposed to at them. What also didn't do her any favors was the marbled black scars that crawled over her shoulder, up her neck and branched across her cheek, looking as though her very veins had been dyed with ink.

As the boy desperately tried to wipe the makeup from his face, it gave the third year snake a moment to look him over. She hadn't a hope to know who the band was on his hoodie, but that hardly concerned her compared the more worrisome markings on the boy's pale skin. Her eyes flickered to the girl for only a moment before approaching the lad, pulling her wand from her pocket, "Would you like some assistance before you rub your eyes clear off your face?" she questioned, trying to best to keep her tone in a more gentle manner; something not very well practiced to the teen.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

@Illowy Magnard sorry for taking so long, I didn't see your post.
@Jess Malters you still alive gurl?

Taking a shaky breath, Jax closed his eyes putting one arm against that wall over his head, and put his weight on it, taking a moment to try and get his racing heart under control. The beginnings of a panic attack had made themselves known, choking him up, fogging his head with frantic, repetitive thoughts. Swallowing hard, he tried to focus on the memory of Kennedy's voice. Gotta tell you life without you has been hard HARD? Has been bad BAD? has been rough Kinky... The musical that particular blurb had come from, Dear Even Hanson, had been her obsession for a month, but for whatever reason, that was the only line Jax had managed to memorize.

You're okay...

The girl who'd previously been hidden was talking to him. Her voice was muffled, drowned out by the roaring of thoughts which was threatening to overwhelm him. You're okay...Even the fact he was having a panic attack in front of someone else was worsening the situation. Deep breath in. Out. In. Out. Three minutes passed before he could answer. An awkwardly long time for the girls, merely enough to breathe for him. But he needed to get this under control. Needed to figure out how to hide them better at least.

"Okay, I'm good." he mumbled, passing a hand over his face, kind of smudging the eyeliner but also managing to compose himself. On the outside, nothing had happened to him, save his breath had grown ragged during the attack, and he hadn't answered whatever the chick had been saying. Now, he was able to look at her, make eye contact. "That would be really helpful," he said with the ghost of a tired smile. "Sorry about..." he motioned towards himself. "Can't help that shit sometimes. Anyway, I'm good now." Sort off.

He couldn't hide the shiver which ran him over as the girl's eyes met his own. Damn she seemed to see right through him. What the hell had happened to her? Why the scars? Back in one of his foster homes, Jax had met a chick. Scared all over, handprints and the such visible all over her. But she'd been horrifically abused by the foster parents. Jax hoped this wasn't the case in this chick's case. "Are you okay?" he asked. Straightforward. Icy blue eyes meeting her gaze. She was cold as fuck, but she'd offered to help him. And even if she didn't say anything, he would have loved to draw her. The scars sneaking up her neck were beautiful in their own way. Gave her a certain...unreal air. Made her seem like she'd walked out from between the pages of a book.

Jess sighed in relief as the boy assured her it was okay and that she had just startled him, the back of her mind wondering why he was so pale. Didn't he go out into the sun? Like... ever? She looked into the mirror as the boy walked away, trying to discern if her blush had left yet or not, but her head snaped back up to the boy as he exclaimed loudly from inside of a stall.

"Dear fuckin god. Did I walk into the chick's washroom? If so I'm so fuckin sorry."

Okay, Jess thought to herself. I guess he really likes to curse, huh? Jess herself was prone to the occasional "crap" or "shit," but she tended not to go around throwing out the more serious curse words as if they were candy falling from a piñata. And why does he think this is a girl's bathroom? Is there someone else in here?

Jess snapped out of her thoughts as the boy tried, without result, to wash the eyeliner off of his face and then announced that he was going to kill someone. Oh shit, Jess thought frantically. Does he mean me? He hadn't seemed too mad at her for making him mess up his eyeliner, but who knew? Maybe seeing that it couldn't just wash off had angered the boy more and made him take back his former willingness to forgive Jess. She took a slow step backwards, ready to turn and run out of the room if the boy decided he was in fact going to try and kill her. Jess, unlike most of her generation, actually didn't want to die.

Jess looked up as another girl stepped out of a stall, carrying a bag on her shoulder and starting to explain to the boy that this bathroom had been abandoned for decades now. As Jess took in the sight of the other girl, she couldn't help but gasp. The girl was deathly pale, with skin so light it rivaled the boy's, and her pale eyes made her appear as if she had already passed on from this life and had returned as a spirit. But this wasn't what had startled Jess- no, the causes of Jess's gasp were the marbled marking spreading over the girl's skin, appearing extremely black against the whiteness behind them. As she realized what she had done, Jess clasped a hand to her mouth, ashamed at herself for reacting in the way she had. The markings weren't even scary, really, just shocking and even beautiful in their own right.

Cheeks flushed, Jess's embarrassment faded quickly and was replaced with worry as the boy leaned against the wall and began to breathe deeply. Or perhaps not breathe might be a better description, as the boy suddenly seemed as if he couldn't get enough air into his lungs. A panic attack, Jess realized. The boy was having a panic attack. Frantically, Jess thought to all the Instagram posts she had seen circulated around that summer about how to help someone in the middle of a panic attack, but, to her horror, the girl realized that she could remember none of them. Shit.

"Um, hey, are you okay?" she asked, though the boy clearly wasn't. "Just try to, um, take deep breaths. Everything's going to be okay..." Jess trailed off, fully aware that her words probably weren't helping in the least, as telling someone who couldn't breathe to draw air into their lungs wasn't exactly helpful. It was like telling a deaf person to hear, Jess figured, or a blind one to see.

Jess sighed in relief as slowly, the boy's breathing returned to normal, and he said he was alright. Turning back to the other girl in the room as the boy accepted her offer, Jess's face turned apologetic and she bit her lip. "Um, sorry about gasping earlier..." she said quietly to the girl. "I don't know what that was."

Illowy had made the active decision not to acknowledge the other girl's stare on her, much less the gasp she'd made; after all, it wasn't terribly difficult to deduce what had shocked her. It was something Illowy had been forced to get use to. In her previous years, she'd been mostly able to come and go without anyone taking much notice of her. But ever since the attack on Slytherin house the year previous, being among those students who still bore the curse on their skin, keeping under the radar was a lost luxury.

Her brow furrowed a bit as the younger lad leaned into the wall for support as he seemed to struggle to regain his breath. Once you were seasoned in seeing such attacks induced by the horrors of so many events at Hogwarts, as Illowy was, you learned a thing or two on how to deal with those situations. In her experience, it was easier to mostly keep guard and try to let them calm themselves down; no quick movements, no complicated sentences. Which was what she did as she leaned her back against the wall, keeping her expression calm and neutral. After all, panicking yourself never helped anything, "Yer're safe, lad. Everything is okay." she assured, watching him carefully in case he worsened as the other girl chimed in as well, trying her best to help.

As the boy eased, his breathing regulating once more before he assured he was alright and apologized, "You don't need to be sorry. It happens to the best of us." she spoke, offering the slightest hint of a Mona Lisa smile. Though that faint expression fell when the boy's own pale eyes flickered over her features before daring to meet her gaze as he asked if she was okay. Cold hues then flicked to the girl as she apologized as well and the snake swallowed hard, "I'll be fine." she spoke, her voice a bit more defensive then she'd meant as her eyes flit from the boy, then to the girl, "Its fine." had the pair been anything other then first years, she might've come off worse; but there was no point in faulting them for what they didn't know.

Her gaze fell away as she pushed herself off the wall, reaching into her bag for her wand while simultaneously trying to recompose herself, "Now, do you want help cleaning your face or not? Because I'm not aware of any trend, wizard or muggle, that involves squiggling your eyeliner like that."

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Can you guys @ me please XD. I never see these things until it's too late. Sorry for the waiting time. Again. God, I'm awful at these things. ALSO my @ thing stopped working for whatever reason. @Illowy Magnard, @Jess Malters

A small surge of annoyance made itself known at both the girl's words. Of course it was going to be okay, damn it. Sure, he was thousands of kilometres away from home, having to forcefully assimilate in an alien culture while having turned the entire first year against him by wearing one of his Pride shirts. Sure, he hadn't gotten a letter from home for weeks, and the only thing which had kept him sane, namely his phone, had stopped working as soon as he'd walked on school grounds. But of course it was going to be okay. Because it couldn't not be. He had to believe the panic attacks, the social anxiety, it was all because a hormonal imbalance in his brain or some shit. There had to be a cure, an answer. If there wasn't, it meant he was insane, and that wasn't something he was willing to deal with just yet.

But then the scarred girl retreated within herself. Jax instantly felt bad. Talk about a terrible first impression, eh? Most people preferred to talk about the stuff rather than pretend it didn't exist, but he supposed it wasn't everyone. Giving the scared girl a faint smile, he nodded. "Yeah, I can admit today isn't my day. Please help me, I'm an idiot," he grinned, trying to dispel the awkwardness and heavy silence which had taken over the small bathroom. He was used to his siblings filling every beat of silence possible, so when it got too quiet, it felt strange. The air around them felt dead without his sister's humming, or his ado father obnoxiously practicing his guitar. When he'd first walked into the bar his ado father owned, he'd been horrified by the overwhelming noise and thrumming of life. Hogwarts had a different kind of noise. And it didn't feel right. But this silence didn't feel right either.

"Let's start again," he said, breaking the silence. "Hi I'm Jax, and I'm a Ravenclaw, even though I'm fairly certain the hat is going senile. Otherwise it wouldn't have put me in the Smart house. And..." he turned towards the girl, eyeing up her outfit and stance. "I'm guuuuuesing you're a Griffindor...although...you do look as if you're afraid I'll pull a knife at you any second. So Hufflepuf? I think? Not sure. Honestly, the sorting system makes no sense to me. AND you," he turned towards Scar Girl. "You're edgy. But you also look smart. Hm. Either Ravenclaw or Slytherin? I dunno. Honestly just guessing by this point."
Eyeliner Mishaps Private Finished
Even as she relaxed slightly at the girl's assurance that she was okay and that the young Hufflepuff's reaction had been fine, Jess noticed the hard swallow the girl took before replying and the way her voice hardened into a defensive tone as she spoke. Feeling a fresh wave of guilt wash over her for the way she had gasped, Jess cursed at herself silently and looked at the girl apologetically again. If she really thought about it, Jess reckoned that the marks were magical in origin, as she thought the girl probably would've used magic to get rid of them if they hadn't been. So really, the question was whether she had been born with the markings or if she had acquired them at some other point in her life. Based on the way she had reacted, though, Jess guessed they were probably at least a relatively new addition to the girl's skin. Maybe she had even gotten them at Hogwarts, like how Katrina had gotten the scars she had shown Jess during some kind of party or something at the school. Realizing that she was staring at the marbled marking all over the girl's skin, Jess snapped her eyes away and looked back at the boy with the eyeliner mark going up into his hairline. Whatever the cause of the marks was, it wasn't any of Jess's business, anyways.

Out of the corner of her eye, Jess saw the girl stand up straighter and offer to help the boy clean the eyeliner off of his face. Her words still seemed a bit hostile to the Hufflepuff, but then again, Jess figured that after both she and the boy had commented on the girl's marks, she was well within her right to be pissed at them. The boy accepted the girl's offer with a grin and a joke, bringing Jess out of her thoughts again. He continued talking, suggesting that the three of them re-start their entire introduction, and Jess couldn't help but agree that that would probably be a good idea. This definitely wasn't going the way she had thought it would, though she had ducked into the room expecting it to be empty so she supposed there wasn't really a way this could have gone where she would have been ready to react to it properly. She grinned at the boy's claim about the Sorting Hat and his classification of her fear and what house that meant she was likely in. "Yeah, I'm a Hufflepuff..." she said with a small laugh. "And a fresh start would be greatly appreciated."
