Hogwarts Summer Camp Chess Combat, Game 1

Theodore had given up on the blackhaired Hogwarts girl for now. Instead he decided to change his position. Do something they would not expect. Or at least he hoped so. The girl's spell was still affecting him and he slowly started to really feel unwell. This game had to end soon, before he collapsed...

Finally, he hit something again! It looked like Jack's luck was starting to turn around! Sadly that thought crossed his mind right before a particular spell decided to make him flip out, quite literally. However, Jack managed to avoid another spell that had been aimed at him, thanks to the flippendo. You win some you lose some. He wasn't feelin' too hot, though. It could be worse, but he should probably avoid getting hit again...

Aha! "Take that Hogdork!" He looked at the rest of his team, that he had quickly grown fond of. But he'd never admit it. "Uh, no offense to y'all." He was happy to finally be off extinguishing duty for this round, but spotted Mars having not a great time. "Mars, we got you. Don't worry." His eyes narrowed as they returned to focus on the opponents in front of him.

If his defenders were going down, he wasn't going to let them die, er, pass out in vain.

INTERACTING WITH: n/a | MENTIONING: Jack and Dealla
Opportunity for revenge (could it really be called revenge if you had cast the first stone and they had just gotten even?) came sooner than she had expected. Although her sights had been set upon the brunette in the corner with whom her team had been having some trouble finishing off, a glance back to her original opponent left her with the impression that she could perhaps take him off guard. That perhaps he wouldn't be expecting an attack from her direction given that she had stepped away from him.

"Flipendo!" she had commanded firmly, flicking her wand in his direction to move swiftly through the necessary movement.

It worked like a charm. Whether or not he had seen it coming, it had connected, although not quite enough to send him back to fall into the line of fire of her ally on the hind lines like she might have hoped. Even still, she could see that the boy looked slightly shaken. In fact, as she peered around the board in an attempt to decipher her next move, it seemed as though the expressions of just about every player — allied and opponent, alike — were growing more grim and focused by the second. Herself included as a jet of light shot towards her from the target she had longed to try her hand at. With a squeak of surprise, she nimbly ducked and dodged, expression stern as she rose once more to her full, unimposing height.

It was coming down to the final rounds of the game, and soon the winners would be determined. By the state of everyone, it appeared as though her team had the possibility of having the slight upper hand in the moment, but she knew that the outcome of any duel could change at the flip of a knut. Until now, she hadn't felt any particular pressure. That was quickly changing. Her palms were growing slick with nervous sweat. Hastily, she wiped them against her skirts before taking up her wand again.

What a duel! The Black Team was slinging spells all around and the two who managed to get their spells off actually managed to hit their targets! It was a tag-team one had never seen in a group so young! If only some of their team members actually decided to cast their spell. Maybe there was a bit of fear in Mr. Thorn's bones as he couldn't even raise his arm to get a spell off to save himself. It was even worse when his legs stayed frozen as well. Smack straight in his wand arm with Everett's Incendio! Maybe the fire would give him a jumpstart and get his brain working again to make a move next time.

Poor Mars. The tag-team effort of Theodore and Thomas was a success and they managed to take out the dueler's health. Mars' dodging skills came in handy here but it wasn't enough to fully dodge Thomas' Incendio as it connected with the dueler's chest as they made to dodge the incoming fireball. As they fell, Mars was surrounded by their team before they were levitated off to the side to the medical area to tend to their wounds. Thankfully there was a handful of burn salve set asside to help heal any burns these students had from the dueling.

Another member of Team White would take a bit of damage as Jack Warren didn't anticipate Damion's determined Dancing Feet Spell to shoot out his wand before he could effectively even think to dodge. The lad was currently doing a Russian folk dance, squatting and kicking his legs and arms out as he bounced around his team. It would be a miracle if he could manage a spell in the next round with his body moving in the way it was. Greta's Flipendo, unfortunately, didn't manage to leave her wand, leaving the piece of wood sputtering as if it has tasted something awful. Her opponent for the round, however, managed to get her spell off succesfully, but Greta's speed at dodging was much better than Dealla's wand waving. Even Santario's own Incendio came out wonderfully, but Thomas managed to dodge the fireball aimed at his hair.

What...you couldn't take the same dish you were serving out, Mr. Baines? It was only a matter of time before the two teams came to a standstill. There were only a couple of rounds left before the duel was officially over. And maybe that was for the best seeing as Mr. Duncain seemed to be dragging himself to stand up and cast each round. That congestive feeling must be something horrible for the poor lad.

A rage was starting to fuel up as their team looked a little worse for wear compared to the other one. This wasn't how this was supposed to go, this team was obviously capable and powerful with the spells they were able to shoot off. It just seemed like the other team was better at dodging then they were at casting. He heard someone drop and looked to see Mars being hauled off to be taken care of. Nah, this wouldn't do. He held his wand up in the air as if giving a wizard salute for someone who died. Even though, Mars was definitely alive and would solidly be fine. "For Mars!" He sent off an incendio full of pure spite at Adonis and managed to hit and set him aflame.

This was the final stretch.

Ay yai yai... Rather than feeling any sort of remorse, as Thomas' spell connected with Mars he felt ecstatic. He had won! Despite the odds against him, in the little two-on-one tiff he'd gotten himself into, the Ravenclaw boy emerged with a victory under his belt. That was three consecutive spells he'd managed to successfully cast and hit. In spite of the faux pas of maiming his classmate with a fire spell, Tommy couldn't help but smile. It'd be fine, magic injuries could be healed anyways! An objectionable opinion to have, perhaps, but the young wizard was a buddying pyromaniac after all of the success Incendio had managed to bring him thus far.

His momentary celebration served him well. As Thomas stepped back to survey his surroundings a bit, he accidentally managed to narrowly avoid a spell from San. The cheeky grin on his face was only fueled by his luck, and he cast a rather disparaging glance towards the Slytherin. "What're you gonna do now that you don't have backup? Cast at me again, I know you want to," he sneered. Thomas was almost certainly getting a little too cocky for his own good, not that the boy would ever admit to such a transgression. As far as he was concerned, the fact that he'd managed to dodge such an absurd quantity of spells was cause for celebration. Perhaps it was the near-death experience in the forest months prior that kept him on his toes. If nothing else, it prevented him from holding a lasting fear of fire; exposure therapy seemed to have been effective for the Ravenclaw. :love2:

Thomas watched as yet another one of his teammates was set on fire. Awkward. He was happy he couldn't relate to their struggles. After casting one last goading glare at Santario, he prepared himself for his next move.

Santario had wanted to give Thomas a taste of his own medicine, but while she had cast precisely, he had just been faster. That was the name of the game sometimes. When Santario saw Princess raise his wand and salute Mars as they fell, Santario followed suit, rising her cherrywood wand high into the air. “For Mars!” Team solidarity and morale was important even to the bitter end. At least none of the people team white allowed its members to burn, team white took care of each other, which would create no doubt a bond between them even after the game was over.

Thomas spoke at her again, attempting to bait her. “Have you forgotten that I am the sole reason for you taking damage? It's the same with your teammate over there who will hit the deck by the end of the game. Be careful what you wish for sweety because you just might get it.” She sneered at him as she flourished her wand in her hand, ready for the next round.

Everything seemed to slow down a little when Mars collapsed, hit by yet another flash of fire. Dealla had been in the middle of casting herself, aiming again for the elusive Queen of Team Black, but her eyes widened in horror as she watched Mars go down.
Mars had been the only known variable for her in this match, she knew first hand that the wix's ambition and, although Dee was loathe to admit it, probably also talent quite matched her own. Mars and Dee shared a kind of fire that, together, could either lead to fireworks or catastrophe, and their presence had been something she'd built on, something that felt like a fail-save of sorts.

It took a second for Dee to remember that she was still in the middle of the match herself, to pull herself back to the present and refocus on her own situation. She jerked her head around, trying to gather what the situation was - would she still have time to dodge?
Her spell had gone off but missed, and it was really only luck that she hadn't already followed Mars into the realm of dreams, because apparently, the spell her blonde adversary had aimed at her had failed, fizzled out before it had even left her wand. Dee would have made an easy target otherwise. But no, she had made it through another round, off no worse than she'd been for the past three. Her luck still held out.

Next to her, Everett raised his wand in salute as Mars was being transported off the field, and Dealla joined the movement without a second thought. "For Mars!" she called. It was a strange solidarity that their team had, considering most of them had only met at the beginning of the match, and most of the time together had been spent exchanging insults and dodging spells. But she felt sure she could count on them - they had never left her on fire, after all, not even for one round. On the other team, Damion was still burning, and now so was Adonis. Would they again decide that shooting spells at Dee's team was more important than helping out their companions?
All of it just made her more determined to win. Although almost swaying on her feet at this point, she wasn't done yet, and the match wasn't over, either. They'd win this, for Mars, or go out in flames.

It's- kinda funny, really. The way that light arcs to their chest, warbling slightly, and they can see it, clear as day, as it hits. They watch motionless as the light spreads out, collapsing, and the warmth of it rushes through their bones. A deadly blanket.

Absentmindedly, Mars feels themselves stumble back, but their motions are slow and groggy, like falling through water. They feel underwater right now. All muffled voices and bright lights.

They're falling. They know they are but it's odd, like a movie reel played too slow. Still, Mars can feel how their body sinks, limbs going weak and heavy, vision going spotty on the edges.

This is, ironic, maybe. Twisted lips pull themselves into a half-grin. At least, I'm not dead. Mars turns to the side and a few more flashes pulse in their darkening vision.

At least- I'm not alone.

They feel tired. Cutting themselves off is an emotional drain; the memories start to trickle back in as Mars releases themselves. It was fun. They can't deny it was everything they expected it to be. They just can't help their rage at themselves.

The impact of a few other spells rings in their ears. Oh. OH. For a second, they fight, splashing to the surface for just one more breath. Mars feels the heat pulse in their chest. The game's still going. They haven't lost yet.

They want to win.

Breathlessly, mouth open to a whisper, the wix manages one last direction.

"You better not f*cking give up now."

Who knows if it's heard? But still, when the world goes black and their body goes limp, there's still a half-smile etched across their face. Win.
Fainted.
