Yet another bout of flames sailed over her shoulder as the second year dodged. So far Bridget was completely untouched, and though she attributed this mostly to bad luck on the Gryffindor's part, who she was sure was usually an adept caster, it was definitely a good thing. Granted, when Prefects came along it wouldn't look so great on her part, but she'd gotten herself into this anticipating detention.

The other brunette's dancing had ceased. Well then, she was going to need to send another spell to take its place. How about Spongify? It certainly wasn't a pleasant experience, which was pretty much she was going for. Besides, she'd rather not accidentally set any more tables on fire. The one was still burning, the licking flames slowly eating away at the wood. Hopefully it would die out soon--she didn't need to add 'burning the school down' to her list of offenses.

"Spongify!" Of course, this too had to miss, fading into nothing before it hit the opposite wall. A shame, she would've liked to see that one succeed. Frowning in concentration, the Slytherin tightened her grip on the strip of laurel wood. Readjusting her stance and shifting her weight on the balls of her feet, hopefully to help her reaction time so she could continue to dodge Anastasia's spells, she readied for her next cast. No more misses.

Anastsia was beyond over this. They were both failing, and embarrassingly so on her part. After a moment, she steeled her resolve. She was going to finish this. She wasn't someone who backed down from a fight just because it was going badly. She was going to win this or get sent to the hospital trying. Given her current state, she hoped that whoever stumbled upon them would be lenient, but she wasn't about to get detention for losing a fight.

Her Incendio had been the closest to hitting and was her most reliable spell, so she decided to give it one more go before switching things up. It shot past her target again and Ana wanted to curse. This was a mess and she was actually going to get detention for losing a fight. That was the lamest possible way she could think of to get in trouble, aside from possibly sneaking out late to go to the library. No, this was definitely more lame than that. How was she not hitting her? She got people all the time when she didn't mean to. She was a good flipendo away from passing out and she had yet to successfully land a single spell. She was going to seriously need to reconsider her practicing since it was failing her so badly now. Maybe join the dueling Club when that started back up. She had copious spare time, between her constant flying practice, gobstones club, ballet club, and studying. Well, no, actually, she didn't have any spare time, but she would have to make some to figure out a way to not be humiliated like this again.

"Know anything other than Incendio?" Seriously, that was, what, three times in a row now? Sure, the Gryffindor was known for her habit of setting people on fire, but that didn't mean she couldn't use a different spell. Maybe if she'd landed one of them Bridget wouldn't have questioned it, but seeing as she'd dodged everything to come her way so far, the taunt was fair game.

At this point, she was pretty much getting some practice in for her spells, going through every remotely bothersome one she could come up with. While she could try Spongify again, she wasn't going to let Anastasia question her repetition of spells, so it was best to mix it up. "Steleus!"

And, finally, it hit. It was an excellent cast, really. She could feel the power behind it, and while it was true that Anastasia very nearly avoided it, she didn't. From very early on the Sneezing Hex had been one of her favorite spells, and while it was definitely not the most powerful, that didn't mean it was useless. Especially considering the fact it had ended her streak of missing, sneezes would have to do. This wasn't just spell practice anyways; she was here to show Anastasia what happened to people who messed with her friends.

Ana's sneezes began to come one after another, breaking her focus. That simply wouldn't do. Generally, Ana wasn't a fan of using nonaggressive spells in a duel, but it was clear that this was going to cause problems, so she might need to break her rule for once. Her irritation at the other girl was growing, and it was clear this duel wasn't going at all like Ana would have liked.

"It's called strategy, I'm sure you've never heard of it. Oh, do you think I ought to do like you and just pick random spells?" Ana snapped at the girl's commentary about her favoring the flame making spell. What was wrong with having a favorite spell? She continued to sneeze and she decided that getting ready of the sneezing was going to have to take priority over attacking again. "Finite Incantatem!"

It seemed as though her streak of bad luck was broken as the spell shot from her wand perfectly and the sneezing instantly ceased. That was much better and now she could focus on finishing this mess. She had far more important things to deal with than some moron who thought she was an avenging angel when in reality all she was was a fool who was being lied to by someone she considered a friend.

Bridget rolled her eyes. "Random spells? Well, for supposedly having no strategy behind them, they seem to be quite effective." And she had proof, too; Anastasia paused to stop her sneezing, which meant it had bothered her. As for strategy, while she couldn't say she'd anticipated Anastasia taking the time to cast the General Counter-Spell, it most definitely worked to her advantage. From the moment she'd decided to using the Sneezing Hex, she'd at least figured it would hurt both Anastasia's ability to cast and possibly dodge due to being distracted, which seemed a pretty solid plan to her.

It wasn't as if she cared for the Gryffindor's opinion, especially since they were both just trying to make the other mad. That wasn't to say it wasn't working, although she'd been mad from the start. Anger had been what had driven her to start this fight, after all.

"Incendio!" There--she did have a plan, and part of it revolved around setting Anastasia on fire as payback for all the people, Katrina included, she'd ignited. And it worked, a bout of flames, although not particularly strong, hitting Anastasia. The other girl didn't catch on fire, but it still had to have hurt. Speaking of hurt, the Gryffindor wasn't looking too good. How much longer would she last? Her intention had never been to literally knock her unconscious, but if this kept up, that just might happen.

Her intense expression eased slightly. "Look. We can end this now. Just leave Katrina alone, and we can go our separate ways. We might even be able to avoid detention; you'd just need to make up some story to the nurse, unless you like leaving burn wounds untreated. Or you could brew a Burn-Healing Paste. My point is, would you prefer walking away from a fight or losing so badly you wake up in the Hospital wing?" She most definitely didn't trust Anastasia, but given the fact she could easily raise her wand again to cast rather quickly, she lowered it to emphasize that she meant what she said. The Slytherin had the feeling she was going to regret this since the other girl had proven she was prone to fighting--she'd cast the first spell before Bridget had even made her intentions of starting an illegal duel known--but perhaps there was a shred of logic in there somewhere.

Ana would have found the irony of the situation humorous if it wasn't so annoying. The girl who was so careless with the other people she set on fire was repeatedly harmed by Incendio. She would have laughed until she cried if this was happening to anyone else. Unfortunately, it was happening to her, and was thus, not that funny. She wasn't someone who lost, ever, and to be losing due to the betrayal of her most used spell was enraging.

She ignored the other girl's words about her spell choices, trying to focus on her own spells. The girl's next words were the first to actually make her angry. "Are you shitting me? She's the one who keeps causing problems for me!" Ana exclaimed, her outrage evident from her face and her wand dropping to her side for a moment in complete surprise. She knew there was probably not a chance of her being able to get to the hospital with burns and claim that they were from anything other than an illegal duel. No, Bridget didn't know it, but Ana had won either way. If she was knocked out and Bridget left her, then either a prefect or a professor or someone would find her and take her to the hospital, in which case she could say Bridget had randomly attacked her. If Bridget brought her to the hospital, then that made even less work for Ana. "She interrupted my studying, told me she wished I was dead, and then ran off. I didn't do a thing to her! And then days later, she just ambushed me in the hallway, as I told you at the start of all this. I don't care what she told you, she was lying, she's the one who's been perpetuating all this.

Her resolve steeling, she selected what was likely going to be her final spell and shouted the incatation while flicking her wand. Maybe she would lose this battle, but she would win the war.

Bridget hadn't expected Anastasia to stand down, and as such her guard was still very much up, enabling her to dodge the blue light streaking towards her easily. Her wand was quickly raised, eyes narrowed once more. She was going to have to end this the hard way, then.

But Anastasia's words did what her spells couldn't--they caught her off guard. Wait--Katrina had started this? She'd attacked Anastasia? But why? At least she hadn't lied to her, but she hadn't shared the truth either. And now here she was, fighting someone that was maybe not quite so terrible, although still not justifiably good, probably earning herself a detention. She almost dropped her wand right then and there--what had been meant as a way to help a friend had turned out to just be a pointless fight and Bridget did not do pointless fighting.

Anastasia was not going to back down, and probably for good reason. If Bridget had to drag her to the Hospital Wing, she'd get in trouble--she could lie, of course, but Anastasia would tell the real story, or at least one that incriminated her, once she woke up. Leaving her unconscious in this room wasn't an option, either, and not something she would do. Avenging a friend was one thing, even if she wasn't quite sure she'd been right in getting back at the Gryffindor for Katrina, but that was just wrong.

What could she even do, then? She was done fighting. Anastasia wouldn't just let her leave, wouldn't stop the fight. She was resigned to getting detention, but not perpetuating this battle, and she definitely wouldn't let Anastasia beat her into unconsciousness because she refused to finish this. But maybe there was one other option: to just walk away.

Spells would be thrown at her the second she turned her back to the other girl, so she'd have to do better than just walking out the door. "Expelliarmus!" Things could not have gone worse, because the spell backfired. When she needed it not to. When it wouldn't have even hurt the Gryffindor, just facilitated her exit. The Slytherin swore. There was no way she was leaving without her wand. Crossing her arms, she located the strip of laurel wood. She just had to get to it... In the meantime, perhaps Anastasia would see she wasn't trying to hurt her, that she was serious about leaving, and not send any spells her way. It was a stretch, but who knew, perhaps she'd get lucky, not that her current luck was any good. For now, though, all she could do was dodge and wait for her chance to grab her wand and go.

Ana was shocked she was still standing and decided to make the most of it. She was at peace with the fact that she was going to pass out from this fight, but she wasn't going to go quietly. She had won this, and based on Bridget's expression, they both knew it.

Bridget's next spell confirmed Ana's thoughts. Her attempt to disarm Ana failed miserably. The spell backfired, which gave Ana a chance to think for a moment before choosing her next spell. She would probably get detention for this as well, although hopefully a lesser punishment, seeing as she hadn't started this and was clearly the worse off of the two. Sure, she had broken a rule as well, but she was sure she could make the case for a lesser sentence. Even if she did get detention, she was okay with that. She was winning this long term, and she was long overdue for detention anyway. Considering all the nonsense she had pulled, it was rather surprising that she hadn't gotten far more. So far, her only detention was from a fight she had started with her cousin in her first week of school. In retrospect, that was a precursor of much to come.

She settled on a spell. Anything defensive was pointless at this stage in the fight, so she would just have to cause as much damage as she could on her way out. "Incendio Duo!" she shouted. The same spell that had started the duel so badly decided to cooperate and lept spectacularly from her wand, igniting the other girl.

Bridget was not prepared for the Incendio hurtling her way. She'd expected it, of course, but the Slytherin was almost in a dazed state, both from Anastasia's revelation that Katrina had started all this, which could be false but had thrown her off-guard all the same, and the shock of her spell backfiring. The pain was delayed and for a long moment she was just watching the powerful flames lick at her robes where they'd landed on her torso. But then it came, reminding her just how much she hated being on fire. Bridget winced, but along with a slight grimace, that was all the physical indication she gave that she felt the pain.

She needed to leave. But first, her wand. Since disarming Anastasia was clearly impossible at the moment, she'd have to find another way to buy herself some amount of time, however limited. Well, she certainly wasn't going to do anything like punch the Gryffindor or throw something at her, not that she had anything to throw, so words would have to do. Her eyes locked onto Anastasia's, most of the intensity she'd walked in with faded. "Rat me out if you're going to. Just know I have more than enough to take you down with me."

And then she dove for her wand, snatching it up and nimbly slipping out the door and down the hall. She really would've preferred to not have to run, since it gave more of the impression that she'd lost the fight despite her spell-casts being far more consistent, but she didn't need another one of those Fire-Making Spells hitting her. Plus, she doubted Anastasia was brainless enough to bring the fight into the hall. Once she was far enough away, she put out the flames still eating away at her robes; people seeing her on fire would certainly draw a lot of unwanted attention. The fire had done some damaged, burning all the way through her robes in some places and leaving the skin underneath burnt. She'd have to figure out a way to get that taken care of without mentioning that she'd been in an illegal duel and preferably without visiting the Hospital Wing, as she really didn't want the nurse reporting her. A detention would just add insult to injury, and if there was a chance of her spotless record staying that way, she would take it. For now she cast the Mending Charm on her singed robes, hiding any evidence of the damage, and pretended she wasn't in any pain.

Bridget couldn't decide what was worse as she put distance between her and the Study Room: the fact Katrina might have attacked someone and not told her or that she'd quite possibly fought Anastasia for no reason. She supposed the pain was bad, too, but that was temporary, and in comparison to the spider curse, practically nothing. The other things she was going to have to live with.

The other girl's sudden loss of interest in this fight irritated Ana. She was the one who had started this, who had hunted Ana down to pay for an imagined slight, and now she was trying to feel all morally superior by ending it? That was what Ana hated about so many of the people at this school. She did questionable things to others, to be sure, but she never pretended that she was some kind of saint while she did them and she certainly didn't lie to her friends because she was too much of a coward to confront someone she felt had wronged her. She had her flaws, even she would admit that, but at least she knew she was flawed and didn't frolic the school like some kind of martyr.

"Unlike your friend and as it would appear, you, I actually deal with my problems," Ana retorted when the girl threatened to take Ana down with her. Ana would be fine with that, but she could think of many, more interesting ways to destroy her that didn't involve staining her perfect reputation with the teachers. While she would go as far as she needed to get what she wanted, in this case, that was justice for this girl's assault, she wasn't the sort to make needless sacrifices.

The other girl dove for her wand and then exited promptly, which further annoyed Ana. What sort of coward was willing to leave like that? Ana was more than happy to take the victory since, in her mind, this was a victory, but if something was important enough to start a fight over, then surely it was important enough to finish the said fight? "You and your redheaded friend are a pair of cowards. It's pathetic," Ana called at the retreating figure. The moment the girl was out of sight, Ana felt the exhaustion take over her and she sagged in the nearest chair for a moment.

Gathering her things, she briskly exited the room, as she didn't particularly want to be caught in what was obviously a scene of people breaking the rules. She decided she was going to go to the Hospital Wing since she had burnt herself often enough that it wouldn't be terribly suspicious to show up with more burns and a singed robe. Anyway, if the other girl did somehow try to turn this around on Ana, it would make it seem far less likely that Ana had participated in the said fight, since why would she have gone to the hospital wing right after?
