First Year Entrance 2020-2021

Rohan shook Akari's hand. "Pleasure to meet you." He looked at Remi once more. What a stupid kid, Rohan thought to himself. Maybe he wasn't stupid, but at least some of his actions were. Very.

The other three students seemed to not mind him in the boat, so he made himself comfy. He did understand Elisabeth, and was quite keen on a quiet ride as well. He was tired, looking forward to bed, but first they had the sorting and meal to go. The sorting.. He was very nervous about that. Still.

He decided to answer Elisabeth's question and forget about the embarrassing action from Remi. "I live in Glasgow, Schotland, near the local Quidditch stadium. It's quite fun there. I went to a training of the juniors once. One of them fell quite painfully..."

He remembered that well. He had been excited, because he wanted to join a team too, but after seeing that one girl fall off her broom, he wasn't so sure anymore. He did feel like he could become an all right keeper one day. But that was just a wild day dream.

He turned around to look at the train, which still had some steam coming out of one of the chimneys, and had a slight feeling of homesickness. He didn't want to think about his mother now. A great adventure lies ahead of him.

Jess nodded at Starlee's words in quiet agreement. She, too, didn't see the point of becoming a teacher if you didn't like kids, but she had had some rather cruel teachers over the years and doubted that they liked students very much either. She smiled back at Starlee as the girl introduced herself, and sat up a little straighter as the girl mentioned her parents' past. "I'm originally from America, too!" she said eagerly, then realized that the girl was still talking and quieted down, not wanting to interrupt her. When Starlee was finished talking, Jess quirked an eyebrow at her curiously. "What's Ilvermourny? And yeah, Hogwarts held a two week long summer camp a while ago... it was pretty fun. We got to watch Hufflepuff verse Durmstrang in a Quidditch match at the end of it."

When Remi started speaking, Jess looked at him in fascination. So these things- Dhampirs- were vampires? So then... that must mean that all the stuff the boy had mentioned earlier was real, right? Like the vampires and werewolves and all... unless he was lying. Jess peered closely at Remi, but could find no trace of malice or a desire to lie behind his beaming smile. Choosing to believe him, at least for now, Jess sat back in her seat.

She grabbed onto the sides of the boat tightly as Remi stood up and the boat shook violently, staring at him wide-eyed as he waved enthusiastically at someone in another boat. Jess was scared that if he kept this up for much longer, the boat would tip over and they would all be hurled into the icy waters below. Yeah, Jess thought to herself. No thanks.

"Remi!" she said frantically, too worried about falling out of the boat to think about whether or not it was rude to command him like this. "Sit down! Please! You're going to make the boat tip over..." Then, looking over to where the boy was waving, Jess spotted someone she knew. Why couldn't I have seen her before? We could have shared a boat... Cursing her luck as she raised a hand in greeting, careful not to move around too much on the unsteady boat, Jess called out, "Akari! Hey, over here! Hi!"

"Interesting name you have, by the way." Elisabeth told her after they shook hands. Akari smiled and shortly after responded with “Thank you, it was my grandmother’s name”. She liked that the girl had taken an interest to her name since she was quite proud to be named after her grandmother. And after shaking Rohan’s hand she had said”Pleasure to meet you too” and of course she was still smiling.

Akari turned to look at the boy that all three of her boat mates were staring at and saw him waving and shouting from the first boat then rose an eyebrow at him. On one hand she hoped for his sake that he didn’t fall but on the other it would be quite entertaining. Akari knew that it was wrong of her to just wait for him to fall off but she couldn’t help it, it would be very funny.

Akari’s eyes widened slightly as Rohan told them he lived near a quidditch stadium and couldn’t contain her excitement, she had always found quidditch fascinating but never got the chance to see a game live. “Oh my goodness! You are so lucky! So that means you’ve been to a game before?!” She exclaimed, then her cheeks started to gain a bit of colour and she became slightly embarrassed at how enthusiastic her reaction was.

After her little excitement outburst she answered Elisabeth’s question
“Indeed I am from around here, I live in London with my family, although I actually wasn’t born there.” but quickly her attention was averted when she heard a familiar voice calling her name. "Akari! Hey, over here! Hi!"
She turned to the direction that she heard the voice and saw Jess waving at her. She grinned and waved back ”Hey Jess!”

Starlee was happy to find someone else with an American background. Granted, she had still never been there due to the, well, too put it mildly, the complicated relationship with her father's family, but still. However, before she could tell the other girl about Ilvermorny, Remi tried to stand up and wave to another girl in one of the nearby boats. The boat started violently tilting back and forth, as Remi's weight placement had caused chaos for the balance of the boat. Starlee gripped on tight to the sides and watched as Jess tried to convince the boy to sit down. Starlee, soon-to-be even more furious if the boat dumped them all into the lake, took a more direct approach.

"REMI! Sit down now before you tip this whole thing over! Don't make me push you out!! Don't you think I won't do it!" she partially shouted at him, hoping it would knock some sort of sense into him. She really didn't want to resort to that, but hopefully, he would listen to her. She continued to hold on for dear life as she watched Jess greet another friend. Geez, was she the only one that hadn't met anyone on the Hogwarts Express? Hopefully, she could make some friends on this boat then at least. Jess seemed very sweet, Rani was loud and a bit impulsive... and the other boy was simply quiet, he still hadn't even introduced himself. Due to the distraction of Remi shaking the boat, Starlee had forgotten Jess's question, as she was too wrapped up in trying to get Remi to sit down as well as contemplating her nervousness in meeting new people.

"You guys are all from around here?" Elisabeth asked. She seemed to appreciate what he'd said about the boy in the other boat, but Robert was afraid that he'd gone a bit too far by saying that he'd probably fall out. He was normally much nicer, but something about that boy rubbed him the wrong way.

Robert shook himself out of his thoughts in time to hear Rohan speak. Apparently, he lived in Glasgow near a Quidditch stadium, whatever that is. Akari seemed to know what he was talking about at least, as she seemed very excited by it. She then went on to say that she lived in London, like Robert, but had been born somewhere else.

"I also live in London!" Robert said to Akari. "I've lived there my entire life." Robert was curious about where she'd grown up, but he was more curious about this new word he'd just learned. In addition, she had just turned to say hello to "Jess," a girl who was in the same boat as that loud boy from before, and Robert didn't feel like interrupting. So instead, he turned to Rohan and asked, "What's Quidditch?" It probably wasn't a Scottish thing, as Akari knew what it was and she lived in England. Therefore, it was probably something magical. "I'm a muggle-born, so most of this is new to me."

I stared at the horizon and the night sky lost in thought... thoughts that would make me homesick. I remember the lake in the park that looks so clear my friends and I called it the Crystal Lake. I sat back and decided to just enjoy the boat ride maybe even take a nap. All was well, until it felt a slight shaking. In the boat, the other guy in the boat and stood up and started waving over to some girl in the other boat, who I assume was named Elisabeth from Remi's loudness and unsublety. Then a steady shaking turned into a violent rocking

Dude, quit it, you're gonna throw us all overboard!

That might have given me out as not so calm and quiet but if this guy kept going we'd all be in the lake. I might have yelled out him which made me feel a little bad. It was the kid's nature he was my total flip side so I didn't know what to expect. I also noticed another girls in the boat was also yelling at the guy.
I finally realized every one has another layer of behaviour that required specific levels of emotions to activate. I calmed down as Remi sat down again. I finally hopped back on my train of thought and planned to ride it till I crashed. I probably should be worried about the impression of me I'd given the other kids but I didn't care. I started feeling weird because my attitude and natural behavior had changed ever since I hopped on the Hogwarts Express.

As soon as the train had pulled into the station she quickly changed into her robes. The train was once more abuzz with activity as students of all years and houses disembarked from the Hogwarts express. By now night had fallen giving way to a blanket of stars across the dark sky with the moon casting a pale glow upon everything below. It all seemed so magical and mysterious and Aoife wouldn't lie and say that the excitement that she felt at finally making it here was finally fading. If anything it was as if someone had given it an electric jolt into overdrive. She weaved between various students to look out at the across the great lake trying to catch even the tiniest glimpse of Hogwarts castle. Though all she could see was the dark calm waters of the lake.

This did little to dampen the young Scottish girl's spirits however as she heard someone call out their voice booming above the excited hum of activity overtaking the platform. She turned away from the body of water to look over at the man who'd spoken. The man introduced himself as the caretaker of Hogwarts castle and introduced the woman standing beside him as the head of Slytherin. She smiled at the introduction and even offered a small wave of greeting to both adults even though she was sure they were more than likely occupied reining in a small army of children to notice her. At the mention of getting their first look at Hogwarts castle, she gasped it was all she needed to hear to have Aoife bounding down towards the shore where the boats awaited bounding down the steps three at a time in her haste. She could hear Mr.Iwasaki urging her fellow First Years to find a boat for themselves.

It wasn't long before the boats quickly began to fill up. And it seemed Aoife was a bit slower than she would have liked to make up her mind on which one she wanted to ride in as the options seemed to grow slimmer every passing moment. Finally she moved over to one of the few remaining ones the only other occupant being a single girl who seemed just as excited as she was if the smile upon her face was any sort of indication. As she climbed into the boat and took a seat she gave the girl a smile. "Good evenin'!" She said offering a small wave in greeting. Her experience with Violet and Sapph upon the train had served to make her a bit less sheepish about meeting new people. So far it seemed everyone was of the alright sort around here.

"So are ye' as excited as I am?" She asked casting her eyes out across the lake still anxious to get underway and see the castle for herself.

Darlene was walking off the platform with the other students, hanging back a bit so as not to draw attention to herself. She was feeling uncharacteristically shy at the moment. Her long red hair was blowing in the night air, making her push it irritably from her face every few minutes. Her new robes she had changed into were rather warm and she felt sweat break out along her neckline. Nervous was an understatement. Darlene had arrived at Hogwarts.

The sky was inky black with pinpricks of starlight peeking through hither and tither. Observing the other students and teachers from afar she felt her spirits lift a bit. Mr Iwasaki introduced himself and Professor Jensen after corralling the first years toward him. He instructed them they would be traveling across the lake to Hogwarts together and they were off to the docks.

Following close behind the group she was one of the last to board a boat, before she did so she looked apprehensively towards the water, its blackness terrifying in the night as it reflected everything above it. Realizing quickly she held up the line she followed a pretty dark skinned girl into the fourth boat, trying not to rock it as she stepped in. She sat in front, just beside the young girl and was awkwardly silent for a few seconds before turning and holding out her hand. Best get over the shyness now. She was about to be sorted in front of the whole school soon. " Darlene, Darlene Smith. Nice to meet you." Darlene smiled hopefully, the young girl had a huge grin on her own face so she should be friendly enough.

Getting onto the boat, Ellen waited for it to steady before sitting down and settling herself. She didn’t want to make any sudden movements while only having just got on the boat and cause herself to plunge in the water on her first day in the school. After sitting, she watched as the other boats filled up and drifted off towards the school, the students talking quietly amongst each other.

And excitement rose in her. It would soon be their turn to ride off into the lake, heading towards the massive dark castle that was Hogwarts, mostly obscured by the night.

Hearing footsteps behind her, Ellen turned and watched as a red-haired girl climbed onto the boat with her. Ellen’s smile broadened when the new girl spoke with a pleasant Irish accent, and Ellen waved back at her. “Good evening,” she returned, “I am quite excited. A bit nervous too, but.” She shrugged.

Ellen felt the boat rock again and saw another student climb on, watching her walk her way towards the front next to her. The boat was finally filling up, meaning they would be off soon, and she felt somewhat conflicted about that. Excited. Nervous, scared, frightened. It was all a mess that was causing butterflies to flutter in her stomach.

“Ellen Thomas,” she returned to Darlene, then turning to the one who’d boarded earlier, asked, “and what’s your name?”
