The first day, of the rest of my life.
Darlene was grasping her mothers hand tightly as they walked quickly through Kings cross. Da was leading the way, pushing the luggage cart, confident in his stride despite his bad knee, and waving to all passerby. Darlene could tell mum was anxious as she was, being a muggle she had never been to Platform 9 3/4, and was worried somehow it wouldn't work out. The two red haired girls hurried to catch up with Darrell, Margaret whispering to him . "Soo yeh say it's a brick wall do ya? An she's ment to go through it? " Darrell smiled at his wife knowingly. " I know it's different Maggie but don' worry. Have faith will yeh?"
Darlene was silent, and scared. But she trusted her father and as they neared the brick wall between platform 9 and 10 she only jumped a little as Da walked right through.
Margaret looked down at her daughter and smiled. "Alright popkin lets give it a go eh?"
Nodding and gritting her teeth they ran together and they were through. The new platform was much more crowded and loud. Owls, cats and frogs made their various noises, bangs and crackles of the older students firing off Joke shop pranks and toys reverberated all around them.
Darlene gulped and looked at her parents. "It's time love." Said Da gently. They walked with her to a less crowded car and gave her teary and heartfelt hugs. "You will be wonderful love." Said Mama holding her teary face between her hands and kissing her forehead. "Now go on." Darlene hopped up into the train, took her chest from her father, and waited as the train whistle blew, then as they began to move slowly. "I love you ! Please write! I'll miss you" and they were gone from her sight. Pulling her tunk along behind her, and wiping her eyes, Darlene located an empty compartment and stowed her things before plopping in the seat with a sigh. She pressed her freckled nose against the window as the scenery flew by.
