Classes started on Monday, there was absolutely no reason for Robert to already be studying. However, the little Ravenclaw wanted to make sure his first week of classes would go as smoothly as possible, which is why he was now attempting to master an entire year's worth of curriculum for eight different classes in a single afternoon. He'd already read through the textbooks he'd bought in Diagon Alley and was now looking for extra materials to read.

Arms piled high with books, Robert tried to navigate through the gigantic library without bumping into anything as best as he could. This was much harder than it sounds, as the pile of books went high enough to almost entirely cover up the first-year's face. It was probably quite a strange sight, to see the ginger hair and hazel pair of eyes peaking out over the stack. However, given that it was the Saturday before classes started for the year, Robert was sure there would be nobody else to see it.

Alas, he was wrong in this hypothesis. There was at least one other student odd enough to be in the library, as Robert was about to learn in a quite embarrassing manner. He was trying to make his way out of the stacks and back to the tables in the center of the library when he ran into another boy. Well, he didn't run, it was a library after all, but there most definitely was a collision, and a spectacular one at that. Books flying everywhere, pages flapping around, children falling over, it had everything you could want from such an accident. "I am so, so, sorry," Robert said, flush with embarrassment as he tried to save the books. Never mind the small bump forming on the back of his head, Robert was quite worried about being thrown out of the library for making a ruckus and causing a mess. He quickly looked up at the other boy. "Are you alright?" he asked, and then immediately went back to cleaning up the mess he'd created.

Henry knew class hasn't started yet but he always did enjoy the library and after the summer holiday he really needed something to take his mind off all of his problems. As he was scanning each book in the aisles for something to take his mind off of his life, he noticed that he couldn't which was odd for him since books were normally one thing that usually helped Henry take his mind off of his life and his anxiety. As the second year took one more look around, he decided to turn in for the night as curfew wasn't for a few hours he still didn't want to be caught and serve detention in his first week back.

As Henry turned out of the aisle and started to make his way toward the exit of the library, he felt someone bump into him but lucky for him and because of his height he remained standing. Henry quickly scanned around and saw a small ginger boy with hazel eyes on the ground, apologizing to him. Henry smiled at the boy and bend down as he helped him pick up his books which rival the stacks he would usually carry when he was in the mood to read. As Henry helped the smaller boy pick up his book he spoke " that's alright, mate. No harm done but are you alright there mate?" Henry stood up when he had around half if the kid's books in his own hands as he spoke " what if I help you bring these to your table, I'm Henry by the way."

The other boy bent down and began to help Robert collect his books. "That's alright, mate. No harm done but are you alright there mate?" Together, they were able to get all the books, splitting them pretty evenly between the two. "What if I help you bring these to your table. I'm Henry by the way."

The younger boy stood up as well. "Thanks for your help, I'm Robert." The Ravenclaw almost started to stretch out a hand to shake, and then remembered the still impressive pile of books in his arms. Still red with embarrassment from the fall, Robert started leading the older boy to one of the tables as an excuse to hide his face. It was much easier to navigate the library when he was actually able to see over the stack of books in his arms, but the downside was that he couldn't use them to cover up his flushed face.

Robert carefully dumped the books he'd been holding onto one of the tables. "This table's good," he said to Henry. "Thanks again for your help." Robert realized that Henry hadn't been carrying anything when they'd (literally) bumped into each other. "Where are your books?" he asked, moving over to one of the chairs, but not actually sitting in it yet. He wasn't quite sure what the social norm for a situation like this was. Do they talk for a bit and then go their separate ways? Do they study or talk with each other for a while? Do they pretend nothing happened and never see the other again? Robert thought the best option would just be to follow Henry's lead.

Henry followed the boy who introduced himself as Robert to his table and neatly placed his books on the table. After he listened as Robert thanks him for the help and Henry was about to reply when Robert asked where Henry's books were, a questions that now even Henry knew. Usually he would have twice as many booked as Robert and would spend hours in the library but that night, he didn't have any and couldn't seem to find any which both was unusual to anyone that knew the second year. As Henry had had a lot on his mind that night and couldn't distract himself with books which has been odd to Henry, but he did have a lot on the family from over the summer and the part of his life that he was hiding from everyone at Hogwarts.

Henry noticed that he probably has been staring for too long and he also noticed that Robert has appeared to still be standing and looked more nervous then Henry was during his first year. Actually Henry was pretty sure he was more nervous since he had and still has horrible anxiety, Henry smiled to the young boy as he spoke " no problem, anytime," He then paused for a minute before speaking again " I have a few books back in my common room but I have a lot on my mind tonight so I couldn't find any books to read." As those words came off his tongue, it sounded like it was someone else speaking or Henry wasn't really himself as he sat down at the seat across from where Robert would sit, Henry guessed as he spoke "I'm a second year by the way," Henry gave him another encouraging smile before
continuing " and I'm guessing that your a first year since you seem sort of nervous. Relax, everyone feels that way, I was much more nervous than you during my first year so you aren't that bad." Henry smiled at Robert trying to ease his nervous as he continued " so I'm guessing your a book reader, like me? Looking forward to any certain classes or lessons?"

Robert saw that Henry had sat down at the table, and he immediately followed suit. I guess study and talk is the social norm for the aftermath of a collision in the library, Robert thought to himself. Good to know. He was actually pretty happy to learn this as Henry seemed like a nice guy and Robert wanted to get to know him better. Also, his head hurt from the fall, and it would probably be better if there was someone else with him, just in case.

The older boy explained that he had a lot on his mind and hadn't been able to find any books to distract himself. Robert found this quite sad, as normally his go-to option for getting his mind off of something was to read a good book. Henry later said that he was a bookworm as well, making Robert quite curious about what was pressing so much on his mind that even a good book couldn't help. However, he was much to shy to openly ask, at least right away. "If you need any good book recommendations, let me know. I am definitely a bookworm. What type of books do you like to read?"

In answer to Henry's question about what class he was looking forward to, Robert gestured to the table, heaving under the weight of all the books he'd collected. They covered topics spread out over all the classes he was taking, showing his enthusiasm for learning just about anything. "Well, obviously I'm excited for all of them. I'm a muggle-born, so all of this is super new to me." Robert thought for a bit on which class he was looking forward to the most. "If I had to choose a single class, I'd probably go with Charms. It just seems like the most useful because you can use the charms you learn there in everyday life. For example, how often do most people need to know how to protect themselves against Dark Magic while going about their day-to-day life?" Of course, Robert still hadn't actually gone to any of the classes, so his opinion wasn't really based on much of anything. "What's your favorite class?" he asked the second-year.

Henry smiled a bit when Robert asked what type of books he likes, which made Henry think for a bit before answering " any books really, but if I had to chose then maybe; adventure, and fantasy. Anything where I can escape from this world or learn from, what about you? What type of books do you like?" Henry then heard the boy explain that he was muggle born and that charms would be the class the he was looking for the most, to that Henry chuckled a bit as he spoke " funny thing is Charms is my favorite class to, but next year when I can take it. It will be Care of magical creatures," Henry paused as he looked at the boy's books and picked up on with the title; gilderoy Lockhart travels with hags or something like that, Henry smiled a bit as he spoke " If you want, I could give you some recommendations for books that you'll actually learn from. Since books like this don't really have that much facts in them,"Henry placed the book down before saying again " I'm a pureblood so while I don't know everything, I do know a bit about the magical world. If you have any questions you can just ask me if you like instead of cramming all of these the day before and risk getting caught after curfew?"

As Henry waited for the boy replied he did spoke again " and I can even ask you some questions about the muggle world, if you like? Just so you don't feel awkward or anything." Henry through a normal person who ask stuffs about houses and families but Henry was anything but normal and he couldn't care less about those things, and any family was the last thing the second year wanted to think about at the time.

Robert was happy to learn that Henry had very similar interests in books as him. "Anything where I can escape from this world or learn from," as he had put it. This made Robert even more curious about what was on the older boy's mind, if that was possible. What could he be thinking about that was able to make a fellow bookworm unable to find a book good enough to escape from this world amongst these thousands of shelves?

"I'm totally the same way! Fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, I love anything that can transport me to a more exciting world than this one." Of course, now that he knew about magic, it might be hard to find a book that can top this new reality. He was reminded of a quote he'd heard somewhere, "I'm not crazy about reality, but it's still the only place to get a decent meal." Or learn how to manipulate the world around you with magic, he silently added.

Henry then answered his other question about which class was his favorite. Apparently, their taste in books wasn't the only thing they had in common, as his favorite class was also Charms, at least until he was able to take Care for Magical Creatures next year. "If you want, I could give you some recommendations for books that you'll actually learn from," he added, picking up one of the books Robert had found.

Robert was quite embarrassed. As the son of two scientists, he knew how important it was to learn from trustworthy sources, and normally never would have even picked up that book by Gilderoy Lockhart. However, his ignorance of the magical world had meant that he had no idea what was trustworthy and what wasn't. "That'd be great, if you could help me find some more trustworthy sources. I've already read through all the textbooks I got from Flourish and Blotts, so it'd be really helpful if you know some other books that I can study."

Henry added that Robert could just ask him about the magical world since he was a pure-blood, "instead of cramming all of these the day before and risk getting caught after curfew." At that, Robert looked out the window and was quite startled to see how dark it had become. He'd come to the library a bit after lunch, and hadn't realized how much time had passed.

"Oh, shoot, what time is it?" Robert asked, frantically looking around for a clock. He'd normally be wearing a watch, but since electricity didn't work in Hogwarts, neither did the watch. He actually had still worn it for the first couple days he'd spent at the castle before finally accepting the fact that it was worthless, at least while he was in the castle. The second-year's offer to trade questions about the magical and muggle world was really thoughtful, but the young Ravenclaw was unable to believe that Henry could be so calm when they were so close to breaking curfew. "I should get back to my dorm." However, Henry's lack of panic made Robert pause. "Right?" he added uncertainly.

Henry couldn't help but laugh a bit when the first year started to freak out when Henry mention curfew so he rolled up his sleeve to show the boy a old and rusted watch on his wrist that said the time was 1:30, while Henry spoke " It's only 1:30 so we have plenty of time. I only mention curfew through because reading everything on the wizarding world in one night would surly keep you here past curfew but discussing about it, won't since it will be more like two friends chatting then reading all of the wizarding world history," Henry then rolled his sleeve down and looked at the boy to see if he was judging his watch before he added " the watch was my brother's and before him it belong to my father, which explains the rusts. It stops sometimes but it still works and it's not a heirloom or anything." Henry decided to stop and not tell him about how his family was poor and everything so instead he placed the books in two nest piles and moves them to the sides of Robert and him, so they were out of the way.

Henry then looked at Robert as he smiled and spoke again " so what do you want to learn about the wizarding world? What questions do you have?" Henry then thought the boy might be nervous so he then added " or if you want, I can give you the book recommendations but I have to learn you some of the books that I read about the classes are a bit advanced. But after talking to you I can see that you will probably be one of the few who would enjoy them like me." Henry waited for the boy to answer but before he did, Henry spoke again " or we can get to know each other a bit better, if you want?" The last thing Henry would have wanted was to talk about families but he also wanted to help Robert so he had to suck it up and get through it.

Robert breathed a sigh of relief when Henry showed him that it was actually only 1:30 in the afternoon, meaning there was still plenty of time before curfew. Henry’s watch seemed pretty old, but since it didn't need electricity, it was able to work at Hogwarts. Henry explained that he was actually its third owner, as his father and brother had both used it before him. Henry said that it wasn't a family heirloom, making Robert a bit confused as to why he still used it instead of getting a new one. Maybe it was a reminder of a dead family member? That could explain what was on Henry's mind, but Robert didn't want to say something in case he was wrong.

Henry then offered a couple different ways for the conversation to go. Robert could ask Henry questions about the wizarding world, Henry could give Robert some book recommendations, or they could get to know each other better. Robert hated it when people added that last option. It meant that he had to choose between making a friend and learning something, both of which he desperately wanted to do. Suddenly, he realized a way to solve this problem and potentially learn more about that watch.

"How about this," he said slyly. "I have two questions, both of which I want to know the answer to. You can answer one or both, depending on what you want. My first question is about magic. Why don't electricity and magic work together?" This was actually something he'd been wondering about ever since reading Hogwarts, A History and learning you can't use electricity in the castle. It really didn't make much sense to the young scientist. Electricity is just a bunch of electrons jumping across atoms, how can magic disrupt that?

"My second question is more personal. If your watch isn't a family heirloom, and it doesn't work great, why do you still use it?" Robert felt a bit better about asking this question in this manner. If Henry didn't want to answer it, he didn't need to, but it still showed him that Robert was curious about it. "Again, you can answer either question, or both if you want to." Robert really didn't want to push Henry to tell him something he didn't want to share.

Henry the boy's two question and didn't know which to answer first, the last thing he wanted to do was speak of his family but he wasn't really and anyways his family money would have came up on way or another so it's better just to admit it now and plus the second year never minded being poor before but Henry thought he should answer his first question, first since Robert seemed like that kind who loved to learn, sort of like Henry actually which made him even more serious on becoming the boy's friend.

Henry smiled at the boy as he thought of the answer and then answered it as best as he could, as he spoke " I don't know the whole theory but from what I read and heard; electricity doesn't work at Hogwarts because there's such a high level of magic that muggle electronics tend to go haywire here. That's the most anyone knows, I think because people don't tend to care about that factor to much," Henry then smiled as he continued to add " and those like me, who come from wizard families don't seem it mind since we already do use muggle electronics or, uh technology in our homes. Because out parents and families didn't grow up around it, we don't either not that many of us mind really."

Henry smiled at the boy then thought of his second question as he spoke " I still use my watch because my family doesn't really have much money, were considered poor in the wizarding world so they can't always afford much," Henry smiled then not wanting Robert to take pity on him quickly added " most of my stuff are handy me downs, but I don't mind." Henry then thought maybe he should change the subject as he added " so what about you, what does your family do. By the way you ask questions, it sounds like you are a muggle scientist which might be better now with magic by your side," Henry laughed a but before adding " do you have any other questions? You don't have to be worried about them, just ask away mate."
