Rose smiled at his British slang. She understood British slang, she had lived her for her entire life, but it still made no sense to her. If you think about it, no slang makes sense, really.
"Oh, good," she said, not even trying to hide her relief. It was written all over her face. She was glad she was not being an annoying jerk, or at least that's what he said, but she did notice the small, tiny, itty bitty hesitation before that.
"Oh, yeah, that's so cool," Rose said, truly meaning it. She could tell how hard he was trying to not say anything weird or intruding.
"No, it's not personal or anything, and you're not a nutter. My mom is from America, and since I was three, she's been raising me and my siblings. We go to America really frequently and all of my mom's family lives there. My dad lived here, and he was a muggle. HIs family kinda hated us, thought we were weird and bad influences, so on and so on, so we've always spent holidays in America. My siblings and I almost went to Ilvermorny, but my mom decided Hogwarts in the end. I guess I just picked up my mom's accent and it comes naturally to me," sh explained. In a perfect British accent, she added, "But I can have a perfect British accent if I want to."
She smiled, she hadn't done that in a while. Her accent did come up often in conversations, it was different. "You have a strong, strong British accent, so one would assume you're from here, but what about you? Have you ever lived anywhere else than the UK?

Rose smiled at his compliment on her accent. Though it was often brought up, it was barely complimented. "Thank you," she replied, her gratitude shining in her expression.
Rose felt a pang of pity as he said he had never had family to visit on the holidays. Rose guessed that she was really lucky to have family that she could go to on the holidays, or family that loved her at all. Some people didn't get that.
"Maybe you could come with me to America sometime," Rose suggested
Apparently his dad had a job at the ministry, one that made them move to Liverpool. "Oh, that's cool, what's his position at the Ministry? Anything interesting?"
Rose had always wanted to be an Auror, if she couldn't get a kind of job with animals or magical creatures, Aurors were just so cool. Plus, even the name was cool.
Auror.

"No, I don't mind that's fine," Rose replied when he asked about if he could put his bag down. Curiosity sparking, Rose wondered, "What's in there?" Rose started to lean on the railing from where she was standing, her eyes tracing the seeker. She knew Henry had no interest in Quidditch, otherwise she would have asked him about it, about which position he would want, about brooms and Quidditch teams.
"No, I haven't, though I wish," Rose almost started to daydream at the thought. "I've always wanted to go all around the world, visit the seven wonders of the world, all that jazz..." 'But I doubt I would ever have enough money to do something like that...'
She added that last part in her mind. She had realistic expectations about how expensive all that would be, if she really wanted to travel like that.
"What about you? Have you been anywhere else than the UK or do you even like travelling?"

"Oh, that's really cool," Rose answered genuinely. She didn't like the title much... Beasts. Dangerous Creatures, that was a better name.
But beasts.... that held something that suggested they were evil, and evil was based on perspective. Some "beasts" might just be protecting themselves, or their habitats, or their families.
Anyway, Henry continued to say that his brother was studying to be an Auror. "I've always thought Aurors were cool," Rose shared. "If I couldn't do something with animals, with creatures, I would love to be an Auror, they're so cool... What about you? Slytherins are ambitious, what do you want to do when you get older?"
After she said that, she realized she could make him feel left out if he wasn't super ambitious.
"And if you don't know, that's cool too."
Rose was then asked what her mom did. "My mom works at St. Mungo's, she's a healer." 'Which makes her never be around...' Rose couldn't help herself, adding that last part in her mind. She almost added it out loud, but Henry didn't need to know that. Though she wouldn't admit it, Rose was very bitter at her mom not being around at all. She even worked summers, when Rose was home. Rose knew it was because she could barely keep herself and five kids afloat, but still.
She noticed Henry was not talking about his mom. Curious, she asked, "Just curious, you don't have to say if you don't want to- Is your mom- um, I mean your mum, is she around? What does she do?
Henry admitted his family was too poor to go anywhere. "Mine too... well, we wouldn't be because my mom's family is really rich but she's too proud to accept charity like that."
Rose smiled at the thought. Her mom. She loved her mom, even though she was a little bitter about her.

"Oh, I would hate to sit at a desk doing work all day," Rose scrunched up her nose just thinking about it. "I would get horrible cramps... and I hate paperwork." she felt really bad for all the muggles who had to do school digitally because of the pandemic, sitting at a computer all day.
"Oh, I'm sorry about your... your mum," Rose replied as he said it. "I'm sorry I asked... As for my dad... my father died when I was three. I don't have many memories of him since I was so little," 'Just feelings... and this big gaping hole where I feel like he should be...' Rose had always had this feeling, ever sine he died, that something was missing, that something was crooked. And it was crooked, barely getting to know her dad. She felt jelous of everyone who did get to know their father. Rose would probably be more devastated if she had known him a little longer, she knew her older sister was, since she was five when he died. Rose exhaled deeply, trying to expel all the thoughts she knew someone her age shouldn't have to go through... Yet here she was, and here Henry was. Rose offered with a smile. "It was probably different for you, but if you ever want to talk about it, I'll be here for you."
Her eyebrows raised when he mentioned he was trying out for keeper.
"Oh, thank you, good luck with that too... If I was ever on the pitch playing, I would be there as a seeker, so unless you play dirty, we wouldn't be clashing on the pitch much," Rose shared.

Henry offered to Rose if she wanted to talk about it he was there.
"Thank you," she murmured.
Rose knew she could be wrong, but she guessed it was more out of politeness, since she had offered first.
Henry was silent for a moment, which gave Rose a little time to think. She remembered that before her dad died her mom had been around a lot more, she had been happy. Her older sister said that she used to sing them lullabies and used to play with them. Rose only remembered how much it changed. By the time she was eight, her and Faith had tag teamed, completely replacing their mom, who was rarely ever around.
Henry seemed sad when he talked about his twin. Really sad. If Rose had let her curiosity control her, she would be asking why his twin couldn't play. But Rose didn't want to invade his privacy and wanted to lighten the mood of their conversation, so she changed the subject. "You have a twin? That's really cool... Are you two identical twins?" Rose had kinda always wanted a twin, someone she could do abseloutely EVERYTHING with. Well, almost abseloutely everything. Not, like, date the same guy.
A smile came on her lips as she thought about it- another redhead in the family.
"Do you have any other siblings?"
