Everett was tired of having done the least amount of damage because he had been on consistent extinguishing duty of their dear Rook who seemed to consistently be set aflame. He slid to his right out of the protection of Jack and right next to Dealla. “Hello Ms. Dealla, mind keeping the flames to yourself while I’m here? That would be lovely.
He would never admit it, but he was having quite a fun time with the Hogdorks.

You know, in all hindsight, Mars probably would have found this quite funny. After all, there was not much stranger than suddenly breaking out into dance in the middle of a battle. But hindsight is 20/20.

Pain. That was the first thing that shot through their head as the Bishop's spell cracked into their lifted leg, light crackling into flames not long after. Mars would have screamed if their own Tarantallegra hadn't whisked them away in a flurry of limbs and lost breaths.

But they could feel the spell's power weakening. As their adrenaline cooled and they finally swiveled to a stop, the rage of the flames became all too apparent. It was kind of—funny, to think that a school would let their students set each other on fire.

The pain had brought everything to a screeching halt. Internally, their brain replayed the taunts, the moment their spell had left the wrong end, and it left a squirming mass in the middle of their stomach, one that they didn't think they could deal with for much longer.

So they shut the world out. Blocked the pain, blocked the feelings, blocked anything that wasn't a battle plan from their mind. It was too easy, to slip things into the blank places of their head, to forget the things that they didn't need to remember.

Mars brought their flaming leg down, planting it squarely on the floor of the chessboard. With a blank expression, they raised their wand—and if they failed again, so be it.

Adonis managed to successfully move one square in front of him with Greta now standing before him. That was only after he watched her get hit by Jack’s spell, an obvious look of distaste presented itself on his face. At least someone else on his team managed to cast a spell and successfully hit their intended target. If only he could just aim for Dealla one more time.

One had to wonder if anyone was flinching in the spectator's stand because this round was a bit more brutal than others. Not only did Mars suffer from their leg-burning, but they were also hit by another Incendio thrown by Thomas Baines. It was a wonder the duelist wasn't knocked out yet, but they were holding on like their teammate was. Now the question was whether or not they would try to go out like a champ and take a chance at another attack or would they play dodge-spell for the next few rounds?

Snotty-wotty Theodore managed to move to another position and avoid having a spell thrown at him. Though his sniffling was starting to stick to his face and dry up in the grossest fashion. His teammates on the other hand, managed to tag-team on Jack Warren, but only the Queen managed to land her attack successfully. Maybe Team Black could take a page out of that notebook and learn better teamwork. This round seemed to be the start of that behavior as Jack and Everett's tag team attack managed to land twice and Jack also managed to return fire back to Damion and set him aflame. The boy was jumping around, kicking his foot about as he tried to put out the flame that was set there. That particular flame seemed to have a mind of its own as it grew larger the harder the boy kicked his foot around. Maybe it would get put out by the next round.

Maybe not.

The rest of the group seemed to fair well, with only two misses coming from Team White's side. It was anyone's game and no one was out...

Yet.

There was nothing but a hollow buzz in their ears when the spell hit them hard in the chest. Their own wand was knocked out of place, incantation lost to the wind as Mars doubled over, coughing slightly.

They could feel the swell of heat try to build, but it smothered soon enough, no flames erupting from the contact spot of the red beam. Similarly, the flames on their leg had died down, leaving nothing but burnt skin and a char-stained pant leg in their wake.

It hurt, there was no denying that. Fire was a cruel dancer, punishing and judgemental. But Mars' senses had shut down. There was nothing but the flickering image of the Bishop in their tunnel vision. Their ears rang, loud and overwhelming, drowning out any sounds of the battlefield around them.

For once, Mars didn't check up on the progress of their team. For once, they didn't turn to quip back, didn't move to shout congratulations at Jack, didn't grit their teeth and stare the Black Team boy down. There was no pain or chaos in a place where they'd closed themselves off, slotted the memories away.

Instead, they moved blank eyes to the sight of the Bishop's face. In a loose grip, their wand stilled. The world went quiet. Hmm. The person inside their body smiled something humorless.

No spells flew at her this time, and that was a surprise as she took a step forward to stand next to Mars. She took the opportunity to observe them as much as she could in this situation, and from what she could note, it was grim. They were singed and looked like they probably couldn’t take another hit, but there was something else about them that bothered her. San noticed any and all humor was gone, while Santario took it seriously there was still humor for her in the game. “I’ll try to get you through this Mars.” A soft-spoken attempt to boost their morale.

It seemed that every single one of the last few rounds had gone worse for her team than for the others, and that was one of the things that kept Dealla focused and determined through the pain of the burns. It wasn't a wide margin, really, or at least she didn't think it was. There were only three rounds left. They could still win this, they just needed the next few rounds to go slightly better for them than for the other team - and quite a bit better than the last ones had, so Dealla had to focus.

She had expected to be out of the game at this point, but in the past two rounds, the other team seemed to have decided she wasn't worth the effort of firing on her anymore, which scratched her pride more than a little. Maybe they weren't wrong, though - she'd tried to cast on the other team's Queen in the last round, decided that she might as well do some damage if she had to go, but even though no one was attacking her, she hadn't managed to hit. Maybe it was the increasing pain that tore at her concentration, or just general weariness, or maybe the Durmstrang girl was just that nimble, but her spell had whizzed past the other girl without doing any damage. It had been a close call, to be fair, but a miss was a miss, anyway.

Dee took a deep breath and clenched her left hand into a fist, fingernails digging into the palm of her hand. Funnily enough, the pain from that helped distract from the pain of the burns, and so did the presence of Everett next to her. Although she'd never admit it, it was nice not feeling as alone in her corner anymore.

Somehow, Thomas had managed to find luck yet again. It seemed as if the hands of fate had decided to postpone his defeat if only for a while, allowing him to experience glory for a moment. It would be cruel when things eventually came crashing down, but for now, the Ravenclaw boy was pleased beyond measure. He didn't notice the change in Mars' demeanor or the reaction his fellow wizards had to the game's proceedings. Currently, his vision was tunneled, and with his success, he was determined to make his next move.

Nothing but victory was on his radar.

Later on, he'd likely reflect that he'd never been so competitive before in his life. Thomas was far from an athlete back home, and he didn't really take games at break seriously as a result. Now, however, in the heat of the moment, Tommy found himself getting worked up. He tried to distance himself from such strong emotions about the game, it was how he usually kept himself from feeling disappointed when his inadequacies inevitably caught up with him, but right now it felt impossible. His mind would simply not allow himself to sit so idly. Adrenaline coursing through his veins, giving the much-needed boost to stave away the effects of getting hit with two consecutive Flipendos, and right now Thomas would be hard-pressed to back down.

Damion was on fire and was tiring his best to get the fire off himself. He was trying to doze it off. The fire seemed to have a brain of it own and it wasn't getting dozed off. he was getting a little worried but he was trying his best to get the fire extinguished. He looked around others hoping that someone would help him get the fire extinguished.
