An Unfortunate Detour PV: May M. Finished

"Still! It sounds pretty mean." Callie defended and was about to further ramble about the ghost in question but May's mentions of Wolverine quickly distracted her. She was a girl of simple pleasures and her sheer love for superheroes and comic books out ranked her own thoughts surrounding the naming of ghosts. Despite spending a lot of her free time outdoors Callie remained an avid reader and over time had amassed quite the comic book collection. By now she almost had an entire bookcase dedicated entirely to comic books at home and the walls were decorated with various posters portraying her favourites. Even one of the plasters covering her finger from an old accident had the ever familiar symbol of Captain America's shield emblazoned on it. "You've gotta read them! They sound so..cool! Even if it'll be a little bit different than usual..but different is good! Most of the time, anyway."

"Plants? Ooh, I love plants! Although I'm kind of obliged to since I live on a farm." Callie giggled when May apologised for going off topic as it was something she herself did quite regularly. "Don't apologise! I go off topic all the time! Once I was talking about a charms assignment then ended up talking about a movie I saw waaaay back!" Callie gave May a reassuring smile and folded her hands in her lap to avoid fidgeting. "Oh, our dorms are named after stars! I'm in Polaris right now, it's one of the fancy names for the North Star! Wait...THERE'S SWEET BOWLS EVERYWHERE? I'm rioting right now, I hardly ever manage to get sugar!" Callie lamented the possibility of free confectionery before May brought her firmly back to reality with talk of Wolverine. "Who cares if people make fun of you! They're just jealous they don't have the luxury of reading brilliant comic books!" She exclaimed with a grin whilst thinking about her own small pile of comic books which laid on her bedside for all to see. Callie never had been one to dwell too much on her insecurities or conceal anything she was passionate about. "Ooh! I love Charms class! I think I'm going to start reading ahead..I've got so much catching up to do, you know?"

“I love new things! And different ones, of course! It's really cool, because it makes you learn things that others didn't know about. Not that I want to show off.” May added defensively. “But I always love teaching others new things or telling them how I learned...these things.” May had always loved to teach other people the things she knew and others didn't, but not to show off (even tho she did need to show off her talents sometimes). This girl was humble and hard working and always loved to learn new things from others, and thank God she had her sister. Vanessa Moonstar always showed her new things about the wizarding world or simple Muggle things she didn't know.

“You live on a farm? Wow! I always wanted to live in one, thought I've only visited my grandmother's once. Do you have a lot of cute animals?” May lived in Storrington, Sussex, which was a small town that had another very small town called Baton's, where May lived. She loved her home, thought she always thought that she should visit more places for her cultural development. Her mother and father weren't very keen to voyage to long places, so the only place May ever visited was the United States, where her sister lived, London where she went rarely, and Hogwarts.

“I've always loved stars, thought isn't my best subject. I excel at Charms thought-” May stopped and blinked when Callie said she couldn't eat a lot of sweets. “You can't eat a lot of sweets? Why? Sweets are the best things in the world! I can't wait to go to Honeydukes in my third year. Then I would be able to eat all the sweets I want- well, you know, all the sweets I like and can buy...”

They came back into the Wolverine talk. May gave Callie another lopsided smile. She was glad Callie liked superheroes like she did. That way, she wouldn't have to hide her comic books under her head anymore.

“Yeah! I'm really good at Charms class! I think it's because the classroom smells like ginger cookies. Or it's because spell's make your class easier! Or maybe both! I dunno...I already know a few spell's that aren't in the first year syllabus. Umm, the Finite Incantatem spell or things like that you know. I finished practicing all the first years spell's, now, I only need to finish the second year ones and I'll go directly to third!" she smiled and her pale cheeks turned rosier and warmer as she talked to her. It could be her imagination, but was Callie's presence...calming?

"That's a very Ravenclaw thing to say." Callie teased before burst into giggles as the sentiment was one she was especially familiar with. Callie leaned more into the pursuit of knowledge as opposed to teaching but she wasn't entirely opposed to helping out others when she needed to. After all what was the point of learning so much if you didn't share your efforts? Besides Callie resided in a house with a lot of people who held a similar ideology to May, so it was certainly something she understood and respected.

"Oh yeah, I've lived in a farm my whole life! My parents own and operate the place, so I've not ever known anything different." Callie explained with the faintest hint of a smile across her face. While Callie was a talkative and outgoing person at the best of times there was something about May that banished away her fears of rambling on. Perhaps it was the fact May was so willing to help out or the simple friendly nature she held underneath the shy exterior. Callie wasn't entirely sure. "Cute? That depends on your definition of cute! It's much bigger than most of the other farms in the area since it covers such a wide variety of stuff...most farms only really focus on a couple of things, you know? But the place has been in my family for years! So it's gotten pretty large and we've ended up with pigs, chickens, cows, sheep..that sort of thing! We still do a lot of planting though! It's brussel sprout season when I go home next!" Callie stuck out her tongue to demonstrate her own dislike of the humble vegetable. "Yuck! Strawberry season is so much better!"

"Oh it's not that I can't eat a lot of sweets...it's just that I'm not meant to eat a lot of sweets. Bad for your teeth, you know? Plus I have a tendency to eat far too many...so it's probably best I don't eat a whole bunch...even if chocolate is like the best thing ever!" Callie was practically drooling over the mere thought of chocolate. "Celery sticks are great but nothing beats a chocolate frog! Except maybe some tablet...my mum makes the best tablet ever! I can't wait to get some.." It wasn't until May brought up the topic of Charms class that Callie stopped her own pondering of confectionery. "You already finished? But it's only October! Man, you must be reading so far ahead!" Callie exclaimed in shock as she had barely come to terms with the wizarding world yet, let alone learned all the first year charms. "Gah, I have so much work to do!"

May blinked a few times before understanding what Callie had said and burst into giggles too. She was quite nerdy- and loved to learn new things, but the problem was that she had taken the sorting hat's word too seriously. When she got sorted into Hufflepuff, May thought that to fit in she needed to have all the Hufflepuff virtues. But then, she understood that she had a bit of every house's personality, and that she needed not be ashamed of that. She had met kind Slytherins and scared Gryffindors when she entered Hogwarts, and she was very surprised to see that. But yes, she had understood, that she wasn't perfect. Even if she tried.

"Oooh. I'll need to go and visit you someday. Maybe in the summer! Well, if I don't have other plans. It sounds really fun! Well, the Brussels sprout isn't exacly great, but strawberry sounds delicious..." May gulped the urge to go to the great hall and eat something up, when she remembered that lunch still wasn't ready. May wasn't exacly a very hungry person, but she would never refuse good food.

The conversation quickly turned to sweets, and May couldn't stop herself from rummaging into her bag and taking out two chocolate frogs from it. She gave one to Callie, and took one herself. "I'm sorry-I couldn't help it!" she giggled and took a bite out of it, relief sweeping thought her body.

"Well, almost finished." May said, taking another bite out of the chocolate frog and looking into her card- "Hmmm, it says something of the weird sisters....mgh, the Weird Sisters? What's that?" May blinked and looked at Callie to see if she knew anything of that. She didn't know everything of the Wizarding world, after all.

"Summer time on the farm is the best time of year, you should totally come visit!" Callie beamed, not making any effort to conceal her own love for the farm she called home. At her core Callie was a deeply curious and adventurous soul, the farmland the surrounding forests simply provided the perfect environment for the girl to thrive. "Strawberry season is the greatest! It's a little annoying though when all the visitors come to pick strawberries..but you know, big deal! Plus swinging around in the haybarn? Unmatched! Unless you have hay fever..that might make you sneeze a little."

Callie couldn't help but let out an audible gasp when May pulled out a chocolate frog from her pocket. Considering how sugar orientated the young girl was it should come as no surprise that she almost immediately ate the chocolate frog. "Oh, thank you! You kind soul..." Callie giggled and sifted the card out from the pack. The card within often came as an afterthought for the Ravenclaw girl, so instead of inspecting its contents she simply slipped it into her pocket. It wasn't until May asked some questions about the Weird Sisters that Callie found her curiosity piqued once more. "Isn't that the band? I remember someone in the common room talking about them the other day!" Callie moved herself closer to May in order to get a better look at the card in question. "Oh yeah, I remember now! The name is super weird because all of them are male! There's totally weirder things out there though..like quidditch! I still don't get quidditch, even if Elias talks about it a lot."

By the way Callie explained it, the farm where the Ravenclaw lived seemed very fun, extra to May because she could eat all the strawberries she wanted, not bothering to go and buy some in the supermarket or go and ask for a box of the, to the neighbors. May giggled along wit's Callie, and completely understood how annoying it could be if there was a large group of people in a single house, for May enjoyed her hours of solitude completely. She had experienced these large parties a lot, and didn't seem to enjoy them.

May smiled softly as Callie ate without a single moment of hesitation the chocolate frog she offered. "Dont worry. You're the kind soul. After all, you're keeping me company in these odd times." she winked jokingly at Callie, and devoured her chocolate immediately.

The weird sisters, it seemed, were a band of male singers and instrument players that seemed quite popular in the wizarding world. May blinked in confusion as the Ravenclaw told her they were all males, for the name 'Weird Sisters' clearly specified they were females. It took her a few moments to understand that it was just a name, and that the band probably weren't brothers or sisters as they called themselves. "Oh well. I really must get going Callie. It was really nice to meet you, and hopefully we will be able to see each other again soon. I'll send you an owl now and then to make sure you don't forget me." she gave Callie a warm friendly hug and was ready to take her leave.

Callie wiped the remains of the chocolate frog from her mouth and gave May a pleasant grin. "Don't mention it! Hey, you're the one who helped me out remember?" Callie held up her hand to showcase the injury May had helped patch up despite hardly knowing her in the beginning. "So if anything I owe you another MAAAJOR thank you for helping me fix the products of my own clumsiness." She let out a bright laugh and pushed herself up off the floor, brushing some dust off herself in the process. For a bathroom the room was rather dirty although that much was to be expected considering the whole...abandoned thing. In truth Callie thought the state of neglect the place was in was a tragedy in itself even if it was apparently haunting by a moaning ghost. Nothing deserved to be completely abandoned despite it's history. Much like people, places could change for the better! Besides having even more bathrooms across Hogwarts would always be something Callie supported wholeheartedly as sometimes the castle was much too big.

As soon as May mentioned moving on with her day Callie instinctively checked her watch, only to be shocked by what she found. Was that the time already? Man, where had the day gone? Callie had places to be! Books to read! Why on earth had she spent so much time in a rickety old bathroom? May's voice quickly reminded Callie of her reasoning and suddenly she wasn't as horrified by the amount of time she had lost track of. May was a pleasant person to waste some time with and Callie was always willing to make a new friend no matter the venue or circumstance. "Hopefully? You mean certainly! I could never forget the face or name of my saviour! I'll see you later May! I'll try not to cut open my hand on glass again!" Callie laughed and returned the friendly hug May bestowed upon her before bounding out the room, resuming her hunt for the library.
