Charmer & Fearless
Evanore watched as the flash of the spell left her thin wand. Another successful cast, but she couldn’t help but curse to herself as the jinx shot straight past the boy and hit nothing of importance. Aiming was not an easy task while sneezing and constantly having to wipe your nose.
Actually, considering how many had targeted him at once, it was quite sad to see only one had their aim on point, and of course it was their queen. The small girl was a tough cookie, there was no doubt about it. Their opponent was knocked to the ground and satisfaction rushed through Evanore at the sight, though quickly washed away by a slight feeling if guilt, even though it hadn’t even been Evanore who hit him.

His teammate went flying backward and hit the ground with a painful sounding thunk. How he was still conscious after this was a mystery to Alexei. They could still win this though, he knew it. Sure, they were down a member and at least one other person looking like he was on his last legs, but Alexei was never one to back down from a challenge.

Long story short, I survived

Just about everything had gone amazingly well for Karilyna, most spells having landed exactly where and how she'd intended them to. The same couldn't be said about her teammates, but she chose to ignore the fact. They'd reduced the opposing team's numbers already, and at least she was living up to her deserved role of queen. Even if nobody else could land their spells, Karilyna apparently could, and that would have to be enough.

"Flipendo." A smirk played across her face as she went for the Knockback Jinx again ─ in fact, it seemed she was quickly finding a trademark spell (well, for this duel, at least). With one white team player down, she simply swiveled to find the next, brown eyes scanning the opposition's ranks like an eagle for prey. She withdrew her wand, watching as light was once again sent from its tip to her target ─ this time, a blonde boy rather than the redhead.

Another hit. The boy went flying backwards and hit the unforgiving board hard, making Karilyna herself wince slightly as she looked on. While she was quite thoroughly enjoying the match, since shooting spells hither and yon to her heart's desire without the looming threat of detention was amazing, she wasn't the type that reveled in another's pain. Perhaps the Thunderbird was mischievous to a fault, and those who had annoyed her would likely describe her as mean, but it wasn't like watching others suffer made her happy. People who were like that were, well, monsters, quite frankly.

But then again, this was a duel. Focus.

"Let's go, team black!" she exclaimed, a more cheerful tone easing itself back into her voice. Even with some spotty casts from each player, she was confident they could win this. Even the road to victory had its bumps, after all.

Moving to her new spot was a success! She was doing a bit better than her teammates but she was still upset that they lost Katrina. Or was it Katarina? Well...Kat. They lost Kat and it was a blow to the team. But they could make things work. Now if only her next move could work...that would be a blessing.

Chess Combat, Game TWO

An avalanche. Could even be worse if Erik's spell, which was probably too difficult for him to try out, would leave his wand and Neculai wouldn't throw his spell in a completely different direction (maybe that was one of the rare moments when the target is so close that you can't hit it). Nevertheless, the joint effort of Karilyna and Evanore resulted in two Flipendos finding its way towards Milosh, a second after he got up from his feet. The power of Black Queen's spell was again so hard that it put Milosh back on his back to not stand up again. The unconscious body of the boy was levitated from the battlefield with the help of a professor.

While Johannes was effectively confused by the recent fall of his teammate, Bridget conjured a blindfold around his head once again, this time it was so tight that it may be hurt a little. Thanks to the power of her conjuration, caused by the preceding annoyance from failed spells. Alexei managed to stay up (he should start looking for some gods to thank for that), but his spells kept failing under stress or whatever that was. But his teammate's, Raine's, weren't. A confident Tickling Charm was sent to Evanore, who probably needed a little laugh. Maybe a less painful one, though.

The time on the clock was coming closer to the end and only 9 minutes left until the end of the duel. With two players down, Team White could still win, if the other Queen goes down.

Frustration started to get the better of Neculai. "Oh come on! Right in front of me and I still miss?!" It wasn't even as if his target tried to dodge it... At the end of his rope the Dhampir thought on how to proceed. The only way he could. By keeping a clear head and try again. It was just as when he attended classes. This was the first time he was dueling. Same as in class when it was the first time he learned new spells. Sometimes it went great and other times... You get frustrated and need to try multiple times. "Don't give up just yet, Neculai." He muttered to himself. It ain't over until its over. Closing his eyes for a brief second and taking a deep breath. The scarlet eyes once more focused on a new target and the wand was elevated towards it.

Erik was starting to fume. What is wrong with my wand? Did something break inside? Out of frustration he knocked with the palm of his hand on the pommel of his wand and just shake it up and down in the air. Like that would magically solve everything, that according to Erik, was wrong with it. I know Olivander said I had to go through some strife with this wand before it really connected, but this is just ridiculous!, he silently mumbled to his wand. As he looked around there was only one move left for him. Please, wand. Do your thing! With that he made the familiar wand movement and said the incantation. Hopefully now his wand would do what he asked it to do.

Fool! You can't even aim properly! What are you even still doing on the field?

Johannes bit back a snarl at the taunt, morengo eyes venomous as they stared up at the accuser. The sting of humiliation, the burn of self-disappointment, he was a liability at the moment if anything. God, he swore he was plenty good with aim- his grandfather said he was getting better every practice, and that wasn't even with a wand half the time- but it was as if his wand completely rejected his attempt today. The spells he cast worked, that much was certain, but the moment they emerged from their holding, they swung out of control. How disappointing- he was putting up a bad face for himself, his family, hell, Durmstrang itself.

Another person down. Alexei was open from the front. Distracted by the taunt and the very dire situation that Team White had been put in, he didn't notice a wand pointed his way and- darkness, again. Damn it! A growl of frustration left him as he took a hand up to rip the blindfold off. This time he didn't even care about how much his curls flattened against his face like a spongey barrier between one eye and the cloth, how they would inevitably be a pain to work with later. He was getting sick of this.

Finally. Her spell worked and hit her target flawlessly, a blindfold wrapping around his face. In fact, the spell cast felt so powerful it almost made up for the past couple of failures, but not quite. All that frustration must've count for something, though, so she held onto it--perhaps she cast better when she was mad.

The two Ilvermorny girls on her team absolutely destroyed the rook standing in front of White's Queen. He didn't get back up. Bridget felt sorry for him, sure, but not at all guilty. For one, he wasn't her friend like Katrina was, and she'd had no part in his defeat. This was dueling, and the whole point was pretty much to nail your opponent with spells until they dropped.

Three versus five. Things were definitely looking up for her team, especially since one of Team White's players was blindfolded from her last spell and their Queen was vulnerable. They needed to make the most of this opportunity.

Another successful flipendo was cast in the direction of her opponent, and with that and the help from Karilyna, he fell to the ground. She changed slightly and hoped he wouldn’t have any hard feelings by the end of the game, perhaps she’d need to check in on him after if she got the chance. Before she'd taken her eyes of the boy who was being helped off the board, she felt and impact crash into her body, followed by pain, followed by, the inability to hold back laughter. Her face twisted into a pained grimace before quickly stretching to a smile as she laughed and clasped her arm over her tummy. The girl had a high pain tolerance, but If there was one thing she hated, it was being tickled. Trying her best to gather her thoughts in between strained sniffles and laughter, she attempted to decide her next move.
