Let's Play It Together
Nick tried to relax a bit, he was just playing with a girl in the same year as him. She seemed like a super nice and friendly girl, it wasn't like she was bossy or trying to kick him out of the rehearsal room. He knew that all this anxiety was just coming from his head, so shouldn't he just relax and enjoy this possibly nice moment with Lindsey?
So he tried to rest his arm on the nearest object, which happened to be the piano. As soon as he put enough pressure on the piano, he accidentally slammed an ugly chord that bounced throughout the room. Immediately, he removed his arm from the piano and started blushing from embarrassment.
Nick simply nodded at Lindsey and picked up the stack of paper, taking out his different sheets of music. He didn't know this girl's voice range so he would try to pick out something with easy vocals for almost anyone. He also tended to not have vocal music by itself so it should be a song he could play without sheet music. Shuffling through, he saw a nice simple song that she might or might not know."It’s a lot more easier for the singer to sing without practicing, so maybe you could name the song——just give me the lyrics.”
"Uh... here how about 'House of Gold by Twenty One Pilots'? It's an easy song to follow along with and I already know how to play it." Nick said, handing the sheet music to Lindsey, "The lyrics are above each grand staff accordingly and the melody you sing is whatever the topmost note of the treble clef is." He assumed that Lindsey already knew this but it's better to be safe than sorry.
"I can choose a different if you want but I-I guess you can decide after I play." Nick said quietly, turning to the piano. Placing his hands on the piano, he took a deep breath. 'It's ok, you've had recitals before, just do what you normally do.' Nick thought as he tried to push himself to play. He played the first chord, then the second, then the third, then he just played like he normally did. It wasn't hard, he was actually enjoying it.“Um, and, maybe you could play the tune before we start cooperate?”

“Uh... here how about 'House of Gold by Twenty One Pilots'? It's an easy song to follow along with and I already know how to play it.”
The girl smirked. Seemed a great offer. She did know this song.
Singing was not difficult for her, since the girl had been learning it since she was five. Although she hadn’t been practicing for a while, Lindsey still had the full confidence to sing. Especially when someone played the piano. As a result, she was really glad to have Nick——she believed they would do a great job together. She trusted him a lot.
“I can choose a different if you want but I-I guess you can decide after I play.”
“Alright then.” the young badger grinned.
She smirked slightly when listening Nick playing it. Indeed, he was a good player. Listening him playing was really an experience. She believed that all the students and professors and staffs should attend Nick’s concert someday. They shall all listen to his amazing singing and playing like she did sometime earlier, and possibly they would…be amazed maybe? And the girl could not help humming the lyrics softly.
Her voice was low, but still audible. Lindsey was leaning against the wall, and her right foot patted the floor with the rhythm.
She believed Nick enjoyed his playing. Yeah, who didn’t if you were a music lover? When the chords were over, she smiled to the Slytherin boy.
“I’m prepared, Mr. Pianist. How about you?”

As Nick was playing the song, he glanced over to Lindsey briefly to see if she was enjoying his performance. He saw her pleasantly tapping along to the song and humming a bit, which was a relief for him. She clearly knew and enjoyed the song, which reassured Nick that she was going to enjoy singing the song.
Ending the song, he happily prolonged the last chord like he always did. Sure, he may have an audience that was waiting on him to finish the song, but it was an old habit that wasn't going to die anytime soon.
Finally, taking his hands off the keys, he looked over to Lindsey, who seemed to enjoy his performance. He was proud of it, he supposed it was nice having an audience for once. He wasn't the kind of person to seek out attention, in fact, he tried to avoid it at times, but it was nice to get certain recognition sometimes, as long as he wasn't singing.
"Well, I'm assuming you liked the song, so I guess we can play that!" Nick said taking the sheet music off the stand, "I'm sure you know this, but the lyrics are on top of each grand staff, and the melody is the top note of the treble clef at any given point." He knew that she probably knew that, but different sheet music reads differently, so he just wanted to make sure she knew.Nick smiled cheekily, turning back to the piano and preparing to play the song once again. "Just cue me in, and I'll start playing!" Nick said, resting his hands in their rightful positions. When Lindsey showed a sign for Nick to start, he would play the song he just played for her. Though, this time he would nod when she would start singing.“I’m prepared, Mr. Pianist. How about you?”

Her imagination ran wild. Like she used to do. The good playing and the morning air was busy running around her, through her vein, and deeply to her very cells. Nick was indeed good at playing. And now, she was pretty curious about this boy.
She knew that a good player was trained through hundreds of thousands of hours. Her mother had forced, well told her to practice piano and singing hard when she was young. She had sighed a little at that time, because she wasn’t really used to it——why she was practicing those dull instruments, while other normal muggle children were playing outdoors? Firstly she childishly believed it was because she’s a witch, while they were not, and a witch needed to be good at music and sports. But she soon found herself wrong. Every children, whether their parents had expectations for them or not, had a chance to study and learn extra skills. Maybe when she was playing with Edmund, or busy writing letters for Enjolras, Combeferre and Perseus, other children were busy learning. You could never underestimate everyone around you. Everyone.
A small smile slowly came on her lips. Nick must have been practicing hard when he’s young…and now. Yeah, this boy got up early today, just for a chance of playing and practicing. Who told her that Nick did not come last Sunday? Or the Sunday before last Sunday? Nobody, right? He might be here every weekend, early in the morning, avoiding everyone and showing his skills only to himself.
“Yes definitely! This is a really great song.” she smirked, hoping that she could possibly get access to more muggle albums this summer. She had already decided to beg her father to take her to the High Streets in London. And there, she would definitely buy some albums by this “Twenty One Pilots”.
“So, maybe we could start?” her eyes sparkled. This was the first time that she had co-performed a song with somebody else, and Lindsey was really excited. So was Nick, she believed.

'House of Gold' was probably one of the few 21st-century songs that Nick knew. His mother only played songs from her childhood, and he didn't really feel like searching out other artists. He had heard some kids playing Twenty One Pilots, and he enjoyed it. So he's frequently listened to their music since then.
It was nice to see a student with such a happy demeanor for once this year. Sure, it was a little late in the year to encounter someone who was actually happy to see him as a stranger, but it was a start. Lindsey was definitely sorted into the right house; she was a Hufflepuff in every single way. She was happy with a sparkling attitude and was kind and patient with Nick despite him being very awkward.Placing his hands on the piano, he smiled. "Of course, I'll just nod you in!" Nick said as a last remark to her before he started playing. It was sometimes curious how much the wizards participated with muggle culture. They may not be graced with magic like wizards are, but they do have quite a bit of talent in the artistic areas.“So, maybe we could start?”
Nick started playing the same chords he had before, the notes that he had played before. He paid closer attention to Lindsey this time, nodding her in when she was supposed to start singing. It was different, playing with a partner, he had to not only make sure that he was playing well but that they were in sync. Since he was playing the piano, he was the one that had to keep time and stay on beat.
