How in the world had this come about?

Miranda had just finished an especially interesting class on Freezing Charms, and had decided to spend her following free period studying them. Now, that wasn't all that unusual for the studious and everlastingly curious Ravenclaw, but she must've gotten sidetracked sometime on her way down to the main floor, because this was most definitely not where she'd been headed.

The whole place was dilapidated, with cracked mirrors, scuffed walls and grimy windows. It gave her the creeps, because every other room in Hogwarts was in quite good repair thanks to the small army of house elves that patrolled the halls underneath the student's noses. This room, though...no, this room was quite a mess. In fact, it wasn't even a normal room - it was a bathroom.

As one of the book characters in a favored novel of hers had once said; curioser and curioser.

Still, however eerie the place was, it was still intriguing and new. That was something Miranda often encountered, seeing as Hogwarts had no end to oddities contained within its halls, but never seemed to grow old. She doubted one could ever grow bored exploring the multitude of hallways, secret passages, and room upon rooms upon rooms. Really, there was no end to it all.

Unfortunately, her sense of excitement was quickly tossed aside as the sound of someone moving across the floor out of sight reached her ears. And in her spooky surroundings, the first thing her mind jumped to was monsters...

Cherri had just finished Potions and decided to make her way upstairs to the main floor to study, only now she was lost. The corridor she found herself in was creepy and deserted. The stone pavement was all cracked, cobwebs ran down the ceiling, and the hairs on Cherri neck stood up. Cherri was now panicking and struggling to maintain her etiquette lady like demeanor with every passing second.

Ravenclaws were both intelligent and wise, which was amusing given her wisdom still managed to get her lost. Cherri had studied the entire layout of Hogwarts and memorised the route to all of her classes, but that did her little good now.

Cherri stopped and started to think, she needed to retrace her steps, so she took a mental note of her current surroundings in particular the stone Pilar that stood to her left. As she walked back the way she came nothing looked familiar. She been walking around for at least an hour when she came across the same pilar. Just great! She'd gone around in an entire circle, was she trapped. Cherri pushed back her tears and concluded her next best option was to try and open some doors. She must have at least open ten doors but all were locked, and Cherri did not know of any door unlocking spells. Perhaps this next door would unlock Cherri sighed as she tried to turned the handle, the latch click open to her relief, only what she saw inside was freaky. Mirrors all distorted and cracked, the whole place was covered in dust and filth, and it was eery quiet, with the only noise being her footsteps on the icy stone pavement, if the corridor was unfit for a lady, this place certainly was.

Was this place a bathroom! Thought Cherri apon seeing a toilet completely covered in mold, and the odour was absolutely foul. Cherri felt sick to her stomach and struggled not to hurl.

What was that! Cherri thought she heard something, she not alone in here, and she doubted there be another student here. She pulled out her wand, not that it would do much good, she was a first year! But she felt a lot safer with her wand out as she slowly backed away towards the bathroom door. Cherri felt her elbow hit something from behind, she turned around to see a mirror falling to the floor, smashing on impact, it's glass pieces spreading everywhere. The sounds echoed through the entire bathroom giving Cherri location away. She quickly hid behind a half standing toilet cube wall.

Miranda had been slowly sidling along the tiles, her wand held tightly in her hand when a resounding crash made her jump in surprise. She might have also quite possibly let out a yelp at the noise, her eyes opening as wide as they could go for the briefest moment.

However, before her panic could increase, Miranda caught a bit of the strangers scent, which wasn't familiar, but definitely human (Just a note, but Miranda's a werewolf, so she has a better nose than most).

"Hello?" she called out, walking around a bend in the wall, only to see the broken remains of a mirror. That must've been what caused the noise, but who had broken the mirror in the first place. She glanced around warily, then smelled the air. While she still found many scents confusing, she could tell that whoever had caused the devastation was still nearby, even if Miranda had no idea exactly where. "It's just me, Miranda."

A moment after she said that, Miranda remembered something she'd read in Hogwarts; A History. Apparently, some of the bathrooms were haunted by a ghost. So. Maybe not the best time to think of that. Luckily for her, though, she could tell for sure that whoever was near, they were human.

Cherri remained completely still in her hidding place, she could hear the advance of footsteps, she only hoped whatever was out there didn't find her.

A voice spoke. "Hello"

It sounded like a girl, but Cherri kept herself hidden, she was not convinced another student would find there way here of all places, it had to be a trick.

"It's just me Miranda." Said the voice again.

Cherri took a gamble and slowly took a peak from her hiding place. A girl stood near the broken mirror, her wand held outright, she looked as frightened as Cherri was.

Cherri stood up slowly from her hidding place feeling relieved. "I thought I was the only one lost. I think we both startled each other, I do apologise." Said Cherri politely attempting to recovering her etiquette composure quickly brushing off layers of dust and remove a cobweb from her hair. The dust now lay in the air thick.

"I suppose we should try and find our way out of here, I've been going around in a circle out there, this was the only door so far that actually opened, ironic don't you think being lost and in Ravenclaw." Said Cherri trying to a add some humor to their predicament.

A scraping against the ground and a loud rustling noise made her hop backwards, the wand jerking up again. Even humans could be terrifying in the right circumstances, and it was better to be cautious. Especially with all of the problems around campus of late, and the rumors of hags in the forest.

Fortunately, her fears were abated slightly when a young girl rose from behind cover. She looked to be in first year, with light brown hair and hazel eyes that looked slightly abashed. She apologized for startling Miranda, in response to which Miranda smiled uneasily. "It's okay, we all make mistakes. I actually thought you were a ghost for a moment."

After a moment, she continued speaking. "Ironic? I suppose I never really thought of it that way. I mean, I get lost plenty, mostly because I forget to pay attention to where I'm going. But hey, what's life without a little adventure?" Miranda smiled again, although this time it was a bit more natural. She'd always been comfortable talking to other people, even if they were a complete stranger that had just succeeded in making her jump several times. Life could be odd sometimes, she had no doubt about that.

Cherri was glad her appology was accepted. "Me a ghost?" Said Cherri giggling.
"This an adventure?" Said Cherri appalled at the idea, "This place is unfit for a lady, I prefer real adventures to this like camping, not lost in a bathroom!" Said Cherri acting a little snobbish as she walked towards the exit.

She didn't mean to act like an upper-class snob, it was not the way she was raised. It's just high society life was easy in some ways, but there were also certain expectations and pressure. Besides she'd never found herself in such a predicament before and wasn't sure how to act. At home she solved her own problems, but help was always nearby and she doubted Miranda company would be much use.

Cherri reached for the door knob, only the door knob would not budge, she now tried drastically rattling the door in utter desperation, that failing she began shouting and screaming for help, forgetting this is not behavior fitting of a young lady.

Finally she gave up when her voice started to hurt, clearly nobody was out there, she must of looked like a right idiot to Miranda.
"So--rr-y" Cherri half muttered, she felt embrassed by her actions, she tried to hide it, another unlady like manor.

Miranda blinked in surprise at the other girl's reply, then watched as she headed over to a door. Well, she hadn't really expected that response. In her eyes, any new experiences were adventures. Even if they were held in a wrecked bathroom in some dismal corner of the school.

She shook herself out of her thoughts at the sound of a door rattling, and glanced over to see her new companion struggling with the exit. From what Miranda could make out, it seemed like the knob refused to turn. After a moment of this, she started forward to help out, but stopped abruptly when the other girl started yelling for help. Miranda winced at the noise, taking a step backwards for the two she'd taken forward. The sudden noise had taken her by surprise, even more than the girl's original words. Huh.

After an even longer pause, the girl turned away from the door and murmured an embarrassed apology.

"It's quite alright," Miranda replied with an only semi-convincing smile. "We all have our days. I understand your panic." She took a careful step forward once again. "Do you mind if I try? I might...well, I might know a spell that could fix it."

Miranda seemed to accept Cherri appology although somewhat unconvincing, but Cherri felt calmer when Miranda said she knew a spell that could help, so she said "Of course. I'm out of ideas and I don't know any spells. The door must have locked itself behind me and unless there is another exit, this really is our only option. I'm really sorry for locking us in and for what I said earlier, I don't mean to act like a total pomous upper-class brat. I mean well, I really do, it's just the expectations of being lady like and sometimes without really meaning to, I sound like an utter snob. Said Cherri wondering if explaining herself was a good idea, but Miranda deserved an explanation and besides, if the door didn't unlock they'd be stuck together.

Cherri stood well clear of the door in preparation, she certainly didn't want to get hit. Though she was skeptical this would work, but there was only one way to know for sure. Cherri attempted to remove more dust from her robes, with little success.

"What do you want to do after this ordeal? I know what I'd like to do, take a bath, I look appalling, hardly a lady, though I'd rather the rest of Ravenclaw didn't see me like this, or Hogwarts for that matter, but that's not likely. Said Cherri attempting to lighten the mood, though she really didn't want to be seen covered in dust.

"I understand...somewhat," Miranda replied, adding the final bit because she didn't want to sound untruthful. In her life, being a lady had never been one of her concerns. She did what she wanted, even if it got her in trouble later on. Actually, especially if it got her in trouble later on. Otherwise, her parent's never even noticed her.

She shook her head slightly, then walked over to the door and readied her wand so it was held in a more comfortable position than the earlier death grip. "Alohomora," she murmured, flicking her wand in the shape of a backwards 'S'. Instantly, the lock clicked and Miranda was able to reach over and pull open the door, albeit with a chorus of squeaky protests from the hinges. While she was relieved to be free of the confining bathroom, she was even gladder that the spell had worked without a hitch. It seemed to happen all too often that her charms managed to go of wonky, and do something completely different than they should. And the fact that she hadn't been able to practice over the summer didn't help.

"Um, okay?" Miranda replied. "I mean, that's not what I'd do. I'd probably head outside. Fresh air helps, you know?"

Miranda said she somewhat understood with a nod, when she pulled out her wand Cherri watched with great interest, she was keen to learn, she was even more impressed when the spell worked.

"Wow, thanks! You'll have to teach me that one sometime. And yeah some fresh air sounds great."

"Come on, let's see if we can find our way back to the main castle." Said Cherri as she pried the door open, the door was still a little stuck, but opened easily enough.

Cherri walked into the corridor relieved to get some fresh air, well fresher than the bathroom.

"Perhaps if we make a map, or mark the walls somehow, that way we could tell which direction and options we have already tried. Solve it like a puzzle. Only I don't have anything in my pockets that would help." Said Cherri.

Cherri noticed a small black stone laying against the adjacent wall, it gave her an idea, she picked it, next she scratched the walls with the stone, it left a noticeable black mark against the wall.

"This could work, unless you have some paper, ink or chalk?" Said Cherri asking, Cherri drew a circle on the wall to represent their starting point.
