Somewhere Peaceful
Bella Rivers walked along the quiet corridor, searching around for somewhere to sit down and read her book. She had tried the Great Hall, to find herself getting irritated at the noise. Outside was too cold for her liking, while the Library would only remind her of schoolwork. It was lunchtime, most students were with their friends, eating or doing homework; not many were likely going to be walking the corridors at this time.
Spotting an empty stone bench, she smiles and sits down. She takes out her book, which had been left unread for some time since arriving to the castle. Leaning her back to the castle wall, she thinks of her comfortable chair back home. Her reading chair, oh how she wished that was here with her. Bella had yet to owl her father back, she just always found herself with something to do or on her mind. She could picture the excitement of reading about her time at Hogwarts so far; the things she's already seen and the people she had met.
As soon as she begins reading, she is pulled into the fantasy world. Every word stuck in her brain, the sentences mixed smoothly together. So indulged in her novel, Bella fails to notice the girl who had appeared in front of her.
Jumping in fright, Bella composes herself and smiles feeling slightly awkward, "sorry I didn't see you there, um... hello.".

Somewhere Peaceful
The halls were bright when Allie finally began to make her way to the Great Hall for lunch, as the sun was at it's highest point in the sky. She had been reading a few chapters ahead in her school books for Charms Class, and had almost forgotten lunch completely. She didn't mind too much, but her stomach was growling so she hurried to walk a little faster down the long corridor.
As she descended the last flight of stairs to the hall that led to the Great Hall, Allie's mind went over what she had read not too long ago, like it did almost every time she read something new or interesting. She was never really aware of starting to do it, as it pulled her deep into her thoughts. . . Then she tripped over an uneven stone in the ground and fell.
"Ow. . ." Allie said quietly, but quickly got up off the ground and brushed herself off, glancing around to see if anyone had seen her fall. No one else seemed to be in the corridor near her, but whether that was lucky or unlucky Allie didn't know. Continuing to walk towards the Great Hall, rubbing her wrist that she had landed on, she walked by a girl sitting on a bench a few doors down from where she had fallen. Realizing that the girl was reading, Allie snuck a glance at the cover of the book and smiled, walking back over to her.
"Hello," she said to the red haired girl and gestured to the book, which she seemed quite caught up in. "I've read that book before, it is really good!" Her eyes lit up and sparkled like they did whenever she was excited about something.

Bella looked back down at her book and up the girl, whose excitement radiated everywhere. She smiles back, "it's great! I'm only halfway through but I love it!" sharing the same enthusiasm as the brown haired girl. The girl seemed kind and her clear interest in books, gave Bella comfort. She thought of the books she was unable to bring with her, all too big to fit in her trunk. All of them were gathering dust, as her father only ever read a newspaper; mostly The Daily Prophet. She couldn't wait to go back home and bring more to Hogwarts.
"Oh, I'm Bella." she smiles before bookmarking her page and shutting the book. She didn't know how long she had been reading, she often lost sense of time once a book was opened. What if I missed my next lesson? Or lunch?, she thought to herself. It was as if the she was sucked into a different world. A world she often didn't want to leave, an addiction.
Bella waits patiently for the girl to answer, noticing the small rise in noise. A small group of students walks past, in a world of their own. All laughing and talking excitedly amongst each other, unaware of others.

The girl looked up but didn't seem very startled, luckily. Allie didn't like when she was interrupted when she was reading, but it seemed like the girl didn't seem to mind as much. Allie took one look at the girl's eyes and the careful way she held the book and could tell that this girl liked to read a lot. Maybe even as much as Allie herself did!
When the girl introduced herself, Allie gave her a smile and a nod before replying. "Hi Bella, I'm Allie." She never used her full name when introducing herself, it didn't sound right when everyone called her Allie anyway. Realizing she had stopped quite abruptly, while thinking, Allie bit her lip. "Oh, sorry. Sometimes I get lost in thought." She apologized to Bella. It was true, she would often think about one thing, which led to the next, and then the next. . . Shaking her head slightly, Allie looked up in time to see Bella bookmark her page. She grinned to herself. Allie absolutely hated when people folded the corners of their books in to remember their place in the story. They were creasing the pages for no reason, in her opinion.
Glancing around the hallway, Allie suddenly remembered what she had come down for as the delicious smell of food filled her nose. Turning to Bella, Allie asked, "Have you eaten lunch yet?" She waited for the other girl to reply.

Bella's stomach grumbles quietly, only loud enough for her to hear thankfully. At the mention of food she remembered the lack she'd had all day, she unintentionally forgot to eat lunch. Smiling she looks up to Allie, "actually no, I forgot to eat funnily enough." she laughs slightly.
She thinks of the food that would be there, all the tasty treats. What did she fancy? A simple sandwich would be enough for her, she only felt like she needed something to fill her up for now; she would eat more later in the evening. Her father failed to tell her how nice the food was at Hogwarts, the options were endless and nobody would complain.
"Would you like to go for some?" Bella suddenly asks, the thought of food making up her mind. She might even treat herself to some desert this time. Her book still lay on her lap, before she puts it safely into her bag. She never left anywhere without a book, she always thought if emergencies occur she might find it useful. Without a book near Bella felt lost, she didn't feel safe. Her father often said that she was being a bit dramatic and overprotective of her books.

As it turned out, Bella hadn't eaten lunch either, a coincidence that made Allie laugh a little. She was beginning to see a few other things that this girl and her had in common. They both loved to read it seemed, which was quite important, in Allie's opinion. Reading wasn't only a way to learn, it was also a way to distract yourself from the world around you if you ever needed to. There was just something so calming about reading, she concluded.
Turning back to the other first year, Allie hears Bella ask if she'd like to go get some lunch. "Of course!" she replies, but then blushes slightly, hoping that didn't sound too eager. She really was hungry, after all, but it might seem a little rude. "Sorry," she murmured quietly, not being able to help herself. It was a habit, apologizing for everything. And one that she couldn't break as well. She gave the other girl a small smile and waited as Bella put her book away in her bag that had been sitting next to her.
Once Bella had finished, Allie led the way to the Great Hall, which was just down the corridor. When they reached the large doors, she could hear the cheerful conversations coming from inside. Normally, Allie would have hated being late to lunch and arriving when people were already there, but at least now she had someone to walk in with. That's when she remembered something.
"Oh. . . I haven't been here for too long, but it seems like all the houses each have their own table." Biting her lip as the pair hovered outside the door, Allie shrugged. "I mean, I bet we would be allowed to sit with each other, right?" her cheeks turned slightly pink. It was a silly thing to worry about, she knew, but. . .
Luckily, when she pushed open the doors, not many people were inside, and it did seem like the students from separate houses were sitting together anyway. Sighing softly with relief, Allie gave Bella a warm smile, much bigger than before.

OOC Note: Would you like to continue this thread in the Great Hall? I think it would be fun, we could get to know each other a little better as well.
Also, sorry for the super late reply!
