Furry Feline Divinities
The little demon crawled along with the fur of his belly gracing the cobblestones, his eyes trained on a big black beetle that ambled unhurriedly down a crack. He was so focused on his prey that he didn’t notice the hand coming down to scoop under his stomach, quickly hoisting him into a familiar pair Slytherin arms. He halfheartedly hissed at his attacker, turning his head to look into her golden eyes. However, the rumbling purr he let out when she scratched behind his eyes marred any indignance found in his green gaze. He closed one eye in comfort, the other lazily tracking the escaping beetle. He’d still be able to stalk it later.A windy day in the Courtyard, @Ruby Cazares
“Ya know, beetles are good for the environment, Hades.” Margo smirked, burrowing her head into the kitten’s fur to hide her smile lines. Nobody else needed to know how easily the little Hell Lord swatted away her defences. Nobody, that is, except the other fellow Slytherin she had planned to meet. But Ruby understood her problem all too well, for she too had a furry feline weakness.
Apollo. God of sun, music, light and a whole lot of other wonderful things. Margo was slightly worried that Hades would be a bad influence. He loved climbing to the top of unreasonably high structures, and Margo did not want to be blamed for Ruby’s feline’s misfortunes. Heaven knows the girl could be formidable. However, Margo knew that anyone living with Ruby Cazares would have to be able to hold their own, so she wasn’t too worried about the kittens getting on. Hades hadn’t met any other kittens his age that she knew of, and she wondered if he’d try to show off his pride like with the unsuspecting students of Hogwarts. There was also the possibility that he might actually enjoy the company. Either way, it would make for an entertaining show and hopefully she could exchange some banter with Ruby whilst they ensured that their little divinities didn’t kill each other.
Hades swatted his paw at her chin in annoyance and Margo looked down into the demon’s reproachful gaze. She had stopped petting him, lost in thought about the upcoming encounter, and now he was bored. Margo had learnt early on that a bored kitten was not beneficial. For anyone. A bored Hades chewed quills and got stuck in tall trees where Margo had to brave vertigo to get him down. A bored Hades clawed his way up her clothes and nibbled her ears. All in all, it was best to leave the cat to his own devices once he had refilled on cuddles for the day.
Sighing slightly, Margo gently placed him on the ground where he ran off to find the beetle. Luckily, leaving Hades to his own devices didn’t necessarily mean he’d stray far — he was a surprisingly loyal kitten once you won his trust, much like his owner. After giving up on his tracking, Hades returned to Margo’s sprawled form on the cobbles. He played chase with her bootlaces whilst she stared dreamily into the distance, wondering what the day would bring.

~ * ~Ruby showed up to the courtyard a little early. A girl—Margo White—had scheduled a meeting with her. Except… it wasn't really all that formal. Margo was her best friend and the purpose of this arrangement was to play with cats. There was nothing wrong with that, though. It was a perfect opportunity to hang out and relax, and Ruby was having a particularly good day, face bright with happiness and confidence. She enjoyed the idea of what they were about to do, especially as she loved her little Apollo and she loved Margo, too. Two of her favourite things, mixed into one in the most pleasurable of ways. She would also finally have a chance to meet Margo's furry friend.
Ruby had started off the journey carrying Apollo, but when he had tried to launch himself out of her arms and over her shoulder to behind her back just to attempt to catch a butterfly, she had reluctantly put him down. There were too many things to explore out here, too many unpredictable movements and marvellous creatures of all shapes and sizes. There was, admittedly, a lot to be curious about, and she knew that Apollo would never pass up an opportunity to investigate anything he could. Frequently, that did lead to him quite literally sticking his nose where it didn't belong and getting into trouble as a consequence of that. At least Apollo was currently staying more or less by Ruby's side this time.
It didn't take long to find Margo and her companion. Ruby approached them quickly, as did Apollo, although her cat slowed down and seemed a little warier, pressing up against Ruby's legs before emerging slightly from behind them. He sniffed the air, looking at Hades and flicking his tail briskly a few times. Ruby fought the urge to coo over Margo's pet, instead commenting snarkily, “Hades, eh? How… fitting for a companion of yours. It must be like looking in a mirror when you see the ruler of hell.” Her teasing was done with a smirk and the knowledge that Margo would understand and very likely not be offended, as they had been friends for over a year now and sarcasm was the language they both spoke. Staring fondly at the cat that she was meeting for the first time, she waited for the girl's response.~ * ~

[quote]Margo was just observing a very interesting weed and revising all Rubyish jokes in her head - now wasn't she good at multitasking? - when she was rudely interrupted. She raised her gaze slowly, her breath hitching as she laid eyes on an adorable furry face.
Surprisingly, it was not the face of Ruby Cazares... though Margo was of the opinion she would have pulled off a beard quite spectacularly. But no. This was Apollo.
He was quite a little beauty, that was for certain. A tad bit shy, but unlike with human interactions where Margo would have found reservations tedious, she found Apollo's reluctance to meet her rather endearing. He was a different breed of cat to Hades - likely a more sophisticated one, though she was fairly certain it didn't dampen his character. She thought she saw a flicker of mischief in his gaze that could also be found in her own devil's green eyes. She found it occasionally within herself, as well. It was the call of the wilderness to a similarly wild soul.
"Nice to see you too, friend." Margo teased. In reality, she could never get offended at anything Ruby said. The whole idea of their friendship was the lack of formalities between them.
"I'd just like to point out that if I'm anything like my cat, then I'm clearly adorable. You gotta admit that face is cute." Margo watched as Hades proceeded to growl at a thistle for scratching his hindquarters when he sat down. He seemed to truly excel when it came to backing her up. When she'd first taken him home she had told her brother, Toby, that he was afraid of heights. And, just because fate was so rarely on her side, it had only been days later that Margo was begging him to rescue Hades from the large Oak in the garden. Safe to say she'd been woefully reminded of the incident for the entirety of the summer.
Margo pulled a face. "You planning on joining me, Rubes, or am I going to stare up at you all day, oh giant one? You see, us cute folks are used to being loomed over. Right Apollo? We're tough like that."
But apart from her issue with heights, Margo was thrilled to see her friend. Sarcasm was their relief, their way of chilling out. If Ruby sat down, the blond would immediately pull her into a side-hug. The prefect should know her well enough by now to know that she was becoming more and more touchy and feely as the days went by. Any sane person would know it was a good and healthy growth. But Margo, well, she just blamed her cat.
And speaking of cats, Margo had yet to introduce herself to Apollo. She scooted forwards slightly, not really caring if she left a dark stain on the back if her bright orange jeans. Holding her hand out for the kitten to hopefully sniff, Margo began to speak. She was a talker. Fact. But this time she tried to keep her tone low and friendly. She got the sense Apollo wasn't one for excitement straight away.
"Hi there, sweetheart. Now, I know you look so shy and adorable, but I bet you've given Ruby a run for her money at least once. She's way too good at life, so, trust me, there's no need to feel bad about it. I'm pretty sure she'd love you know matter what. I mean, she loves me and just this morning I tripped and got some orange paint on her bed. Good thing we learnt the colour changing spell in Transfig, am I right?
Meanwhile, Hades was rapidly approaching Ruby's ankle, whiskers gently scratching the skin. He rubbed his head fondly against her leg and, if she was seated, would crawl his way towards her lap. The girl's clothes smelled just like his Margo's robes. Thank goodness for Hogwarts' magical washing detergent.
