Lost in Hogwarts PV: Alina Rosier closed

She remembered what it was like in her First year. The castle seemed so daunting, so expansive, so frustrating! She was always getting lost and the Professors were not so forgiving when you got to class late. At least this boy was looking for the Common Room and not to one of his classes. "Hi there!" she greeted him with a smile, happy to help.

At the beginning of her first year, Alina had been ashamed to be sorted into Hufflepuff. She used to wander the corridors with no tie around her neck and put it on once she got into her classes, only to take it off just before departing the classroom. That way, people might have thought she was her identical twin sister Bella who was in Slytherin. That was better than being a Hufflepuff. Anything was better.

But in one short year that all changed. Alina was now proud to be a Hufflepuff and her tie was around her neck and she thought of her house fondly. No one could think she was her twin sister also because Bella now was attending Beauxbatons for her second year of schooling and beyond. Alina Rosier was now unique and she wasn't going to hide anything about herself.

"Hufflepuff," she said, looking to the boy's attire. "Yes, of course I can help you! I'm Alina. Alina Rosier. Second Year." She knew some of the faces of older students and so she assumed perhaps he was in first year. "This castle can be rather crazy at first to figure out, huh? I've been trying to make a map...but it's rather useless." The castle liked to change.

"It's best to stay clear of the moving staircases if possible. Some of them don't move for DAYS!" She then motioned for him to follow her as she rifled through her bag, pulling out a lemon drop to pop into her mouth. She then pulled out the bag and held it out to offer him one. "So what's your name? Where are you from? Glad to be a badger?"

"Yes, of course I can help you! I'm Alina. Alina Rosier. Second Year." The girl would say to him. Matrix would sigh in relief. "Nice to meet you Alina. I am Matrix Kaida and as you can probably tell, I am a first year." Matrix would say with a grin.

"This castle can be rather crazy at first to figure out, huh?" Alina would ask him. "Yes, its a little crazy" Matrix would say sheepishly "This is my second time getting lost this week!" Alina would then give him advise to avoid the stair case. "Will take that into acount for the future. I dont want to be late for any classes!" Matrix would not want to be late for any classes, or he may miss some important information or work!.

Matrix would then accept the lemon drop offered to him. "Thank you" He would say, popping it in his mouth. When Alina asked him where he was from, Matrix would think for a moment. "Well, I am not really from any specific place. Maybe London, because I was born there?" Matrix would say shrugging. He had been to London only 3 times in his life, so it did not really feel like home. To him, home is where his family was, no matter where in the world. Alina would then ask him how he liked being a Hufflepuff. Matrix's face would light up. "Hufflepuff is amazing, wouldn't ask for anything more!" Matrix say grinning even more. "What about you? Where are you from?" He would ask curiously. "Do you think Hufflepuff is the right house for you?" He would ask. It would be good to make friends with people in the same house as him, even if they where a year older.

"I'm originally from France but currently live in the Windlesham Village area of Surrey." Those that knew the area knew it as one of the most expensive places in Europe, but those that didn't know it at least knew of Surrey - a town West of London in England.

They began heading down the corridor as they talked. "If you asked me this time last year I probably would have wanted to hit you for even daring to ask such a question. I was SO upset I was in Hufflepuff because all my family members before me were sorted into Slytherin and I thought my father was going to be livid. But I learned to love Hufflepuff and it helped me grow in my closedmindedness. My best friends are in Hufflepuff too. It's a great house to be in. Welcome to the club!"

Okay, so not so much a club but it was a nice group. "We're very helpful, truly. If you ever need anything, just let me know. I love to help people and get to know people," she hoped she didn't seem too desperate to get a new friend here. Desperate wasn't what she was going for and too often when she first met people they perceived her to be odd when really she was just someone who liked to dedicate herself to others. It was why she would make a good healer or nurse someday.

"I simply adore your name. Matrix. I've never met anyone with that name before!"

Alina would tell him where she was from. “Ah France... I have been there once!” Matrix would say remembering. His trip there was quite recent, about a year before he came to Hogwarts. “Beautiful County!” Matrix would continue walking down the corridor, trying to remember the way to the common room. She would tell him why she hated Hufflepuff her first year and how she grew to like it. “ Yes, I admit it’s not the most fancy house, but how does that matter. A name is a name. It’s us who will pave our own future!” Matrix would be smiling wider than before. He would then realize how weird that may have sounded, so he decided not to rant about how our house does not dictate our future.

"We're very helpful, truly. If you ever need anything, just let me know. I love to help people and get to know people, Alina would say to him. “ Thank you so much!” Matrix would say happy that he found someone nice in his house. “ And if you do ever need something from me, don’t hesitate to ask” Alina would then complement his name. “ Thanks so much! Neither have I” Matrix would laugh a little. Your name is pretty cool too!” Matrix would look around and see some paintings he kind recognized. “What is your favorite part of Hogwarts so far” Matrix would ask curiously.

"EVERYTHING!" she said a bit too enthusiastically and hoped she didn't scare the boy. "I mean it's overwhelming at first but it's magnificent. I'm glad to be back," she smiled brightly. "I like the castle itself because it's tricky. It's always changing and makes life here a challenge and fun to explore. I like the portraits. Some of them can be a little nasty but most are wonderful. Especially Poppy and my portrait cat Artemindora and her kittens." Oh wow, she was going to sound odd.

Everyone either saw Alina as the perky peppy person that she felt she was, happy to help others, wanting to make friends. Others saw her as weird and awkward. She wondered how Matrix was seeing her. Most didn't befriend the portraits and if they did, they certainly didn't admit it.

"The library is amazing and the Lake is a nice place to collect your thoughts or take in your studies. Don't go to the Study Rooms though unless you plan to be absolutely quiet. The Ravenclaws there are relentless."

"But my absolute favorite is probably the friends I've made. There are some people here at Hogwarts that you can absolutely depend on to brighten your day and that's what makes it the best. So where else have you lived? Did you consider any other schools? My twin sister goes to Beauxbatons. Started there this year."

"EVERYTHING!" Alina would say super enthusiastically. Matrix would cringe just a little but continue smiling. She told him how she liked how the castle shifts and how much she likes it. “Right now, it’s confusing and cool at the same time. It is as if the castle itself is alive!” Matrix would nod, agreeing. She would then tell him on how she had made friends with some of the portraits. “I have not had the chance to befriend any yet...” Matrix would say turning to a nearby portrait of a young guy, a few years older than him. “Do you want to be my friend?” He would with a straight, serious face. The boy would suddenly disappear. Matrix would sigh. “I guess I got to actually start paying attention to them. Who knows when I may need their help or knowledge.” Matrix would say confident.

Alina would then tell him about the best places to study. “ Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind” Matrix would laugh a little when she told him about the Ravenclaws. "But my absolute favorite is probably the friends I've made.“ Alina would say. “ Yes, I’ve made a few friends so far. It’s good to see some familiar faces in such a big school. Makes me feel almost safer...” Matrix would stop. To some, that may have been weird. The girl would then ask where he had lived and Matrix’s whole face would suddenly light up. “Let’s see....I have been to Canada, United States, Japan, India, Brazil, Madagascar, Australia” Matrix would suddenly stop. He would think he had gotten carried away and he did not want Alina to get the wrong idea that he was bragging. “Sorry, I think I got a little carried away. What about you, what places have you visited or lived in?” Alina would then ask him if he had considered other schools. “Yes, actually, I have. I had wanted to go somewhere foreign so I can learn a new culture” She would then tell him about how her sister was in a different school. “ Do you wish you where in the same school?” He would ask curiously.

"We were in the same school last year. She got sorted into Slytherin. She liked it well enough but by the end of the year I guess she was ready for a change." It was odd this year, being so distant. She thought being in different houses at Hogwarts was far enough away but now they were in entirely different schools in entirely different countries. "I miss her but I hope she's happy," Alina said honestly.

"That's incredible you've lived in so many places. I can see how you must like learning new cultures. Fun, but can be confusing. It was a little bit when we moved from France to England. I couldn't even imagine Brazil, Japan, or Australia." Alina found it fascinating though and thought it was really neat that Matrix had been so traveled.

"Where has been your favorite place so far?" she always wanted to travel more than she did, but honestly with her father being so dedicated to his work and never home, it made it rather difficult. It wasn't as if a twelve year old could jet off around the world on their own and she didn't really see her father changing his workaholic habits any time soon.

“I can see how you must like learning new cultures. Fun, but can be confusing.” Alina would say to him. Matrix would nod at this. “Definitely can be sometimes. You got to learn the traditions of the area so you don’t accidentally offend the locals. Especially if you are staying for a long time. You just got to act extra nice when you are in a foreign area and after some time it will just come natural.”

Alina would ask him what was his favorite place he traveled so far. “Hmm, that is a hard one” Matrix would reply lost in thought. After a few moments he would respond, “Maybe Iceland? Beautiful place! If you wanted to ever explore the world, I could show you it. You know who to call” Matrix would say grinning with a wink. He would then realize that there was probably a spell or something that could let her teleport there. His father had mentioned it to him before, but he could not remember the name of it. “Though you could probably just go by yourself with magic” Matrix would sigh. There was a joy in traveling through different lands to get to a destination. Magic took that away, but it is way more efficient.

"I love seeing new places," she explained to him. "I'd be a travel companion!" Plus it wasn't as if she couldn't go. She had the finances for it and the drive and her father let her be very independent. "I can't say I've seen too much beyond England, Scotland, and France, unfortunately. You should pick a place and I'll start making some plans," she smiled.

It didn't matter if she just met Matrix. A roadtrip of sorts. What better way to get to know someone than to travel with them? It could be a weekend thing or even a little longer. Maybe over one of the breaks. Maybe over the summer. "I'll be the tourist agent. You might have to help educate me some in muggle transportation though. Ive only been on a train." And it was such a fantastic way to travel. One actually got to pass by countrysides and homes, cities and factories. You saw part of the world that you didn't get to see by such quick transport like the Floo Network or portkeys.

Still, her family was very old magic and only traveled by means of magic. That didn't mean shes had to though with her new friend.

"So where are we going, Matrix? Where will our first adventure be?" ...Other than roaming the corridors of Hogwarts.
