Penelope stopped when she entered the doors to the Great Hall. Something looked different. Her friend, Melissa, who had been walking behind her, ran into Penelope's hair with a ruffled "oof".
"Something's different..." Penelope muttered. She looked all around the walls. The paintings were still there, lively and moving. The candles were floating in the same spot they always had. Looking up, she realized what was so different.
"Look! I've never seen a storm so big." Penelope giggled mischievously, in a way only little sisters have the power of doing. "Do you think it rains on the Slytherins if they've been bad?" it was a question most definitely, but it didn't deserve an answer. Penelope looked around, hoping no other Slytherins had heard, and seeing that they hadn't, began to walk to the middle of the Ravenclaw table.
Penelope sat down on the wooden bench, careful not to look at anyone but her housemates. Although she didn't know their names all too well, their faces were so familiar she could recognize them and feel safe around them.
"Mmm, my favorite!" said Penelope, looking at all of the food. She picked up a small cup of orange juice and took a sip. Then, remembering something that she had thought about in the hall, asked Melissa, "Are you wizard-born or muggle-born?" and then added hastily, "I don't mean to hurt your feelings or anything. For some people it's a sensitive subject, although I don't really see why. I won't bully you or call you a mudblood or anything like that! I'm wizard-born, though, and I thought you should tell me because it's important stuff." she felt her face grow warm, and then waited for a reply. She had a way with muddling words, it was like a super power.
Or a super un-power.

"Huh? Oh, I'm wizard-born," Melissa said. "My dad's family is pureblood but my mum's father is from a muggle family so I'm not pureblood." Melissa didn't care about muggle-borns. In fact, she thought that they were interesting because they have magic from non-magic people. Then, Melissa ate her food. She wasn't actually hungry but Hogwarts food is just too good. The smell of it invites you in and you just can't resist it after you smell it. As she dug into her food, Melissa looked up. It actually was a really big storm but also a little pretty. The sky was a lighter shade of dark blue with dark clouds. It may be one of the biggest storms she will ever see but it might be also one of the prettiest. Every once in a while, the lightning you light up the sky.

"Hey Penelope, what do you want to do later?" she asked. Today was really fun...I wonder what we'll do later, Mel thought, What if she thinks that I'm too weird for her though? Shivering at her thought, she began eating again. Whenever Melissa was stressed or something, she would eat. It was really weird but she didn't care. It was like therapy. Food therapy. She smiled to herself at the thought of having a friend to do everything with now but deep inside, she was just hoping the friendship would last.

"Hey, Penelope, what do you want to do later?" Penelope searched Melissa face for a few moments, making sure she wasn't mad. When she saw that she wasn't, she spoke cheerfully, happy her dumb question hadn't ended their relationship forever.
"We could do something in the dorm? Or we could sneak onto the grounds, although that'd wind us up in detention, so maybe we shouldn't do that." said Penelope, giving a small laugh. She ate another quick bite of her food and drank from her goblet. She was always conscious about how gross people thought she was when she ate, because she hated bad dinner manners herself. She didn't actually know if anyone else cared, though, and at Hogwarts she had gotten much better at just eating.
Penelope shifted in her seat a bit before she spoke. "Hey! I know what we can do. We'll go into the girl's dorm and take out all the stash. You know, the candies, quills, ink, things like that, and we can trade! It'll be like a sleepover!" said Penelope, and then she added humbly, "If you want to, that is."
She got back to eating her dinner, aware of the loud chatter of the hall. It was almost too loud for her, and she looked up, remembering the sky.
"Whoa!" she said, pointing up. It had started to rain, but it wasn't dropping any water. It was landing on what seemed to be an invisible barrier, pattering noisily. "That is so cool!"

Sorry for the late response. I'm going to be on a lot less regularly now, I've gotten a lot busier these last few weeks. I'm still available to roleplay, though. :D
