Ending a Race; Beginning Friendships
The Professor-- Kibitzer-- whom Katrina was still trying to remember what class she taught, explained the rules. The Professor seemed a bit confused as to why Katrina had asked what to do and a bashful smile found its way onto Katrina's face. Nonetheless, she explained it well enough, solidifying the Gryffindor's initial thought. As the Professor walked down beside them, she gave an odd look, one of maybe surprise?
Then with a sharp blow of her whistle, they were off.
First was Jo on the hurdles. Katrina watched with excitement in her eyes, "Go Jo, go Jo, go Jo!" She chanted loudly, but not too loudly as to distract her. The lioness bounded over each hurdle far better than Katrina could have. On the very last one, Jo hit the edge of the hurdle with her foot and fell to the ground. Fear flooded Katrina eyes, is she okay? Luckily, Jo stood up quick enough to indicate that the worst injury was of her pride.
Jo tagged River and River started off with an air of uncertainty. "You can do it!" Katrina cheered, feeling apprehension build up. River did really well too! She swung from bar to bar surprising Katrina with her upper body strength. Katrina felt her stomach twist, it would be all up to her now.
With a tap on her shoulder, Katrina was off running. The feeling was exhilarating, the pounding of her footsteps, her even breathing, her hair flying behind her. Over the rope net I go. The obstacle was unlike she had ever seen before. It was a spiderweb of rope strung up high between two poles. She had to climb up, swing over, and lower herself down the other side. Again, Katrina thanked herself for all of the hours she had spent climbing trees.
The first few hands were easy, the grip on the robe easy to find. The rope was sturdy and thick, with plenty of ridges to add friction. Her feet found footholds just as easy. Up she went, beginning to feel the strain as she climbed higher. About halfway, her foot missed the spot and jolted her down causing Katrina to suck in a breath. She went higher reaching the top with, what she thought, a fast pace. Katrina swung herself over, heart leaping to her throat as she was afraid her hands would slip and fling her into the air and plummeting down. But, her feet found their spot and she was scampering down.
The last two meters were too slow for the adrenaline filled girl. Instead of being a normal student and finishing off the rope net, she allowed herself to free fall. The ground rushed up to Katrina and she managed to flip herself over and roll on the ground, distributing the weight of the fall. With a grin of her face, Katrina jumped up. "Done!"
They had done it. Katrina could feel her heart beating wildly in her chest as she ran over to the other girls. She ran in for a hug and embraced both of them at the same time with outstretched arms. "We did it, that was so much fun!"

Jo felt a surge of embarrassment as she sat down on the grass to watch the other two girls effortlessly completed their obstacles. River showed off her stunning upper-body strength on the monkey bars, only pausing once when her long auburn hair swept into her face (it was hard being beautiful, probably). Katrina proved herself no less adept as she crawled up the rope net with an alarming agility, nearly stopping Jo's heart as she let go of the rope and plummeted to the ground only to land perfectly. Although Jo cheered them both on loudly, she couldn't help but realize that physically at least, she was nowhere near the level of her peers. Jo's only consolation was that the two girls had shown concern for her during her fall rather than anger, annoyance, and embarrassment, which was what she had actually expected. Though whether Professor Kibitzer would show her that mercy or not was an entirely different matter, the reactions of the two girls reassured her that they were in this for fun, not victory.
"That was exhausting", she laughed. "I haven't run that fast in months! Or tried to jump that high. Or tried to jump at all, actually. We don't really get much exercise here."

Katrina gave her and River a hug. Absolutely. So much fun, Jo thought bitterly as she wrapped her arms around Katrina, mostly because she had to admit that the girl was absolutely right. Until she had tripped on that stupid hurdle, Jo had indeed truly enjoyed the exercise, although she was, of course, loath to admit it. Yes, yes, her insincerity would one day be her downfall. Whatever. We did it, that was so much fun!

Very sorry for the delayed response, girls! I missed the post in my remembrall! As well, you should have gotten your reward for this errand now, so let me know if you haven't.
Miss Morgan's performance was less than stellar, but Rosalind didn't laugh - there was effort behind it, and that was all she could ask for. These were skills you developed through practice, and none of these children were practiced. And if they were, whoever taught them ought to be on trial. Her breathing was chaotic, and it almost seemed like she might have got the hiccups from the scare of the whistle blowing, the way her lungs worked against the rest of her. She nearly hit the first hurdle - but she didn't knock it over, so Rosalind overlooked it. When she started to seem frazzled, the professor shouted some encouragmeent.
"You got it!" she said, shaking a fist in the air triumphantly. Then the poor girl caught the last hurdle and slammed into the ground. "Don't apologize to me, honey, you made it!"
Miss Dewlight shot out toward the monkeybars, slipping off on the very first chance. Well, that's a shame. Rosalind held her breath as she waited for the girl to jump up and grab them again, nodding along with each swing as she followed the progress of the race. She chased after the swinging girl with small steps, observing her technique. She made it without injuring herself - a cut above Jo's performance, although it was the easiest task.
"Need to tie that hair back," Rosalind suggested as the girl passed along the metaphorical torch to Katrina. The professor, who had her hair cut short, gestured up at her own. "Gets in your way!"
Miss Walker had to conquer the most difficult obstacle - perhaps the responsibility had fallen onto her, as both the oldest and the Gryffindor. They always liked a challenge. Professor Kibitzer quickly sucked in a breath the same as Katrina did when she nearly missed her step - but the girl carried on, crawling up the rope net like a spider in her own web. When she jumped, Rosalind beamed proudly - clicking the timer in and jotting something on her clipboard. Keeping score, maybe.
"Stuck the landing," she said proudly. "I think you three might be the fastest group yet."
When Jo made the point about not getting much exercise, the professor snapped her fingers and pointed to her. "You sure don't. Don't worry, we'll fix that up. Healthy body, healthy mind." What about an injured body? Walk it off, she thought, glancing down to Jo. She was a kid - they fell all the time, they'd bounce back. She did observe the student for a moment, checking for a limp, however.
"Great work, girls. You nailed it! Ten points to Gryffindor, five points to Ravenclaw..." the professor noted on her clipboard.

@Katrina Walker @Jo Morgan @Rosalind KibitzerReducioMy apologies for the super late reply, things got really busy, just thought I’d finish this up nowPushing her hair back out of her face, River laughed as the girls all moved in for a group hug. Hugs were never really Rivers thing, but celebration of team efforts were always necessary.
Katrina seemed very content with their efforts, and they had good reasons to be proud. Not only had they tackled some obstacles, but they’d managed to do it without anyone injuring themselves. “Jo, you alright?”, she asked, as she’d just remembered her fall on one of the jumps. In the end, it sounded like Jo had some fun after all, which was good. Even if they didn't end up being the fastest, none of them had died. That in itself was an achievement. Perhaps death was a bit of and overstatement, but who knows what could have gone wrong. “You both did really well”, she complimented and smiled to the two of them. As Professor Kibitzer congratulated the three of them after the run, she mentioned them perhaps even being the fastest group so far. River didn’t know if she should have believed it or if she’d just said it to make them feel proud, but she was proud nonetheless.
Finally getting her breathing calmed down, she began noticing that all she really wanted to was head up to the castle, take a bath and hop into bed or something. “Well, I guess this is when we go back inside?”, she asked the rest and looked up at Hogwarts. "Thank you professor", she said and smiled. The thought of sitting down with a good book was so very tempting, and as they all had finished their goals for now, she headed up across the grounds to the castle.[/font]Exits thread unless stopped

“Jo, you alright?” River asked.
"Never better," Jo said. She had been much, much better - for example, before she came, because now she was all sweaty and tired. But emotionally? The thrill hadn't not done good things. Yes, she admitted once more, she felt wonderful compared to earlier.
"Well, that was more than enough fun for one day," she announced to nobody in particular before turning to Katrina with a chiding smile.
"Katrina, you've got to invite us for something calmer next time!"
With a series of short bows towards her housemate and the Professor, Jo began to make her way across the grounds, back to the warmth and comfort of the Hogwarts castle.

Despite her red-faced embarrassment, a proud smile spread across Jo's face, wide as the hurdle she had jumped. She'd promised herself not to be competitive about sports, but winning as a group, especially against a team you didn't know, was always a little bit sweeter than a shrug and a we'll-do-better-next-time."Stuck the landing. I think you three might be the fastest group yet."

Professor Kibitzer began to count House Points, and River made her exit back towards the castle. Jo straightened out her braid, and then her clothes."Great work, girls. You nailed it! Ten points to Gryffindor, five points to Ravenclaw..."

Katrina still felt the adrenaline racing through her. It had been far too long since she had done something exercise like. It was fun. There was something calming about it. Perhaps a better word would be stress relieving. Katrina had been thinking about doing some running in the mornings, but never had the motivation to actually go out and do it. Maybe she could start doing that?
Katrina smiled at the other two girls. They didn't seem quite as thrilled as she was, but she was pretty glad to have them both together. River took her leave, thanking them and the Professor before making her way back to the castle. Jo was next, making a witty comment that made Katrina laugh before following in River's footsteps.
It took Katrina a moment to realize that it was just her now. Well, her and Professor Ki- Kilb- Kibitzer. She really ought to get that one down. She was the Muggle Studies teacher, right? She may not take that class, but it would still be good to know.
"Professor Kib-zster," Katrina stumbled over the name, hurrying through her comment, "Thanks for setting this up, it was really fun. If you ever plan on doing another athletic thing, make sure to reach out to me!" Katrina smiled and waved, heading away from the castle and actually onto a trail. She wasn't going to run, but simply scope out the area.
Who knows, maybe she would do morning jogs?
