Fox's Magic Shop
Private roleplay with @Cassandra Ironwoods
Date: 28th July 2020It was a boring, rainy day and, having nothing else to do, Lucia Fox had sat herself down on her bed to get on with some embroidery.
And promptly given up, shoving the multicoloured threads back into her wooden sewing box with a sigh.
If she had been at Hogwarts, Lucia would have done - or at least tried to do - her homework. But she wasn't at Hogwarts, she was home for the summer holidays.
If it had been a sunny day, Lucia would have gone outside and done - something, anything really. But it wasn't a sunny day, it was an extremely wet one and the rain was tapping at the windows as if it wanted to come in.
If she could find her sisters, Lucia might - might - have played a game with one of them. But Briar, the nerdy introvert she was (though don't get Lucia wrong, she still loved her sister) was reading her elder sister's old school books in her room, and Willow... Well, Lucia couldn't actually find Willow. She just hoped the mischievous six year old wasn't out in the rain.
And so she had made her way down the stairs to the bookstore where her mother Ebony was currently standing, helping a muggle customer buy a selection of books. The muggle in question smiled at her and Lucia smiled back, if only to be polite. No-one would buy from Fox's Magic Shop if they believed the owner to have sullen and horrible daughters.
She wandered aimlessly for a few minutes, restless, before walking over to one of the shelves and running her hand along the best volumes.
So many books...

Fox's Magic Shop
Cash was walked aimlessly while waiting their mother. Their mother was visited one of Cash father associated. Then out of no where the rain was down pouring without a warning. Cash immediately ran to the nearest shop but almost collide with small girl. The rain soaking their black crown beanie that the green eyes wear.
There are also a dark spots seeping on their black pullover on various places. Normally Cash could care less about other human being but the little girl look up to them with adorable eyes and Cash is not that heartless to left the poor little girl alone out in the rain. The little girl stuck out both of her arms at Cash.
"Why do not I bring you in? Where is your parents?"Cash ask to the little girl. The little girl blinks at Cash, her arms still stuck out. Cash then bend down so their green eyes bore into the little ones. "You know, it is unsafe to let a stranger hold you. What if I am a kidnapper?"Cash inquires to the little girl that now in their arms.
The little girl cling her arms on Cash's neck. Cash pushed open the door. The owner of the store (Cash assumes) is still with another customer. "Uh, hello?"Cash said to the people in the room. "Does this one belong to any of you?"Cash questions. Their arms starting to have pins and needles. It is getting awkward and uncomfortable for Cash liking.

Fox's Magic Shop
Interacting with @Cassandra IronwoodsWhen the bell at the front of the shop rung, signaling that someone had entered, neither Lucia, Ebony, or the customer looked up.
However, when they - the voice sounded like a girl's - spoke, Ebony looked up, obviously irritated.
"No," she snapped. "We're not a-"
But she was interrupted by the customer, who said, "Grace! I told you to stay in the shop, where have you been?"
Lucia heard him hurrying over to the newcomer and taking the child from their arms. "Thank you," he said.
Ebony, who had until this moment been waiting impatiently for the customer to finish paying and leave, suddenly stopped tapping her pencil on the table and Lucia could tell by her tone that something interesting had come to light.
"I like your jumper," Ebony said, slowly and pointedly, and after checking that the customer was busy checking that his daughter - if that was what their relationship was - was alright, flicked her gaze upwards to the sign above her head, which read 'Fox's Magic Shop' in curly calligraphy.
Lucia wondered what was happening. By the tone of her mother's voice, a witch or wizard had entered the shop, but that was unlikely as they usually arrived via flue, directly into the hidden Wizarding section.
She turned around, replacing a book she had pulled out to the shelf, to see...
"Cash?!"

When the owner of the shop (Cash assume she is one) snapped at them, they want to retorted back but held their tongue. Thanks Merlin someone claimed the child in Cash arms. The father of the child (or it could be whomever it is to the child), approached the pair and gave the little girl (now Cash knew as Grace) a little reprimand, he took it from the green eyes girl arms.
The man asking where the little girl had been. "She almost get soaked in the rain"Cash provide to the man. The man said his gratitude. "No problem, really"Cash throw a little smile towards the little girl. "Be a good girl and take care now, yeah?"Cash bend down and ruffle the little girl hair. Cash was so focus at the little girl and almost missed what the shop owner said to them.
The shop owner gave them a compliment. Cash subconsciously rub their black sweater with Slytherin crest in it. Cash did not know is it appropriate to wear it or not outside school. "Thanks"Cash replied back. Then shop owner flicked her gaze towards the the sign above her head. It read 'Fox's Magic Shop', Cash followed her gaze.
Fox? Why is that name seems familiar? Cash thought to themselves. Cash slowly walk among the aisle to see the collection of the books in the store. A lot of the books title unfamiliar with them until a voice filled the room. "Cash?!"The other voice greet them. The ones that called them that was their mother (although their mom sometimes call them Phoenix) and some of their friends back at school.
"Hi!"Cash seems surprise after they saw the other girl face. They did not anticipate to meet someone outside of school. Cash fasten their paces and now stand beside Lucia on the other aisle. "You work here or something?"Cash inquires the girl that they met during the end of school year party that Lindsey held.@Lucia Fox

Interacting with @Cassandra IronwoodsCash seemed to not realise what Ebony was trying to hint to her - magic shop, for Merlin's sake! - and Ebony would have tried to catch their attention again (probably by subtly casting Lumos or something like that) but the customer claimed her 'help' first, keeping a firm hand on the little girl's shoulder in case she were to run away again - which she might indeed have done, judging from the way her innocently curious gaze fluttered around the room.
The Slytherin made their way to another bookcase, out of Ebony's line of vision, and hurried over to stand behind a bookcase with Lucia when they heard their name called.
"I live here," Lucia explained, and stuck her head out from behind the bookcase to smile at Ebony, who had resumed an expression of barely concealed boredom as she wrote down the customer's purchases.
"That's Ebony, she's my mother."
Lucia then retreated back behind the shelf again, absent-mindedly pushing back a book with a green spine, which was almost hanging off the shelf.
"But why are you..." Then, it struck her. Lucia snapped her fingers, one finger cocked towards Cash. "Ironwoods!" she said as if it were a revelation, "Now I remember where I've heard your name before! You're Caiden Ironwoods' daughter, aren't you?"

Fox's Magic Shop
When Lucia told the green eyes girl that she and her family lived in the store Cash look at Lucia blankly for awhile then their face broke out into a full blown grin that rarely the green eyes show it to people. "You lived in a bookstore? That is so neat"Cash expressed. They want to say 'awesome' or 'cool' but born and raise as a socialite, those words are foreign to them.
Still they know how to use those words from time to time. The purple dyed hair girl once again look up at the sign of the store with the perfect curly calligraphy. Cash look more throughly at the sign. Something different on the sign. The more they focused on the sign, it become much clearer. "Wait.. your sign said 'Fox's Magic Shop', magic as in you know magic?"Cash inquires.
For someone prided for being articulate, their question did not make any sense at all. "I mean magic as in Marauder's Map or something?"Cash husked out in soft whisper and paraphrasing their question. They did not want any wondering ears to eavesdrops on the conversation. Cash for once never met another witches or wizards outside their family functions or outside school. Now they found one, they become giddy.
They cleared their throat to masking their giddiness but their green eyes speak otherwise. Their eyes sparkling with excitement. Cash picked up a book randomly and read the back of the book quickly. They put it on the shelved again after they done with the task. Lucia then point out the woman behind the desk is her mother.
"Does you always address your mom by her name when you introduce her to other people?"Cash enquires. Their tone hint a bit snide in them because in Cash's mind addressing their mom by her name while introducing it to other people scream disrespect to the elder. Maybe their upbringing make them thinking like that or maybe different families have different culture.
"Anyhow.."Cash about to say something else but Lucia cut them off. She wonders how or why Cash could end up in her family store. Then Lucia spoke out their surname. When Lucia said their father's name, Cash let out a grimace. "Por que tienes que decir su nombre (why do you have to say his name)?"They mumble under their breath.
Like it or not, the head of Ironwood family is still their father. "Yeah. That is me. The one and only daughter of Caiden Ironwoods"Cash let out a small fake smile. No matter how hard they tried to be their own person, the shadow of the Ironwoods' patriarchy will always be in the background and be their shadow.@Lucia Fox

Fox's Magic Shop
Interacting with @Cassandra Ironwoods"Thanks," Lucia gave a small smile. She liked living in the family shop, but thought that people would probably look down on her for doing so, especially high-society purebloods like Cash.
Still though, Lucia knew about not judging people by their families - everyone was different, after all, as she herself had proven during her first year at Hogwarts - and was pleased that Cash didn't look down on her at all. On the contrary, she seemed to be impressed!
"Magic, as in magic," Lucia confirmed with a nod, speaking quieter than usual. "Muggles seem to think it's cute." She lowered her voice to a whisper. "We don't actually sell any... magic, just books, though we do have several written by... Our community. It's supposed to be a sign to... You know..."
Lucia couldn't suppress a smile as Cash took a random book off the shelf and read its blurb as if expecting to find something, then spoke, her voice now a regular volume. She had had practise trying to communicate to wizards and witches in a Muggle setting, but not very much and still found it hard to choose the words sometimes. "You won't find any of that genre here though, you'll have to come in the back."
"Oh, yeah, that's just what I call her," Lucia explained. "Some people say 'mother', or 'mum', or 'mama', I say 'Ebony'."
Lucia blushed as if slightly embarrassed, and ran a hand through her hair. "It's only since going to... school... that I realised how... different, it was," she confessed.
"Cool," Lucia said, and was about to ask if that meant she lived in a fancy, posh house and everything, but decided against it when faced with Cash's 'smile'.
"Um," Lucia quickly changed the subject, leaning against the bookshelf. It was obvious how at home she was within the walls of her family shop. "Want to come see the... Other section?"

By the sign of Lucia's smile, she is very proud where the young Badger reside. Cash nodded at that. It is not an every day thing that a family of witches or wizards live above a bookstore. "You are living above a bookstore is so marvelous!"Cash give out the compliment. "It is so different from a lot of witches and wizards that I know. Many of them reside in a Manor or you know a modest houses, never above a bookstore before"Cash added.
Seeing the other witch living quarter make the green eyes girl feel a bit envy. The Ironwoods Manor, no matter how big and how many helpers they have, it always feel too big and too cold for their liking. Lucia's home give Cash a strange feeling they rarely felt albeit surrounded with many row of books. Comfort is what they purple hair dyed girl felt.
Thanks Merlin's Lucia understood what Cash meant from their less then articulate question. When Lucia nodding her head confirming it is indeed magic - their magic world - not like those magic in Muggle world, Cash smile broaden. "-It's cute"Lucia voice enter their ears again. Cash a bit zone out when they tilt their head trying to read the book title by its spines.
"We don't actually sell any... magic, just books, though we do have several written by... Our community. It's supposed to be a sign to... You know..."Lucia whispered. Cash nodded their head, signaling they followed what Lucy inform to the green eyes girl. "You won't find any of that genre here though, you'll have to come in the back."She added.
Cash pulled out another random book and read the title. The Great Expectation. Cash vaguely remembered that they once read that book in their family home library. "Oh! I thought you know, those books hidden somewhere in this row of books"Cash smile sheepishly. They trying to find their magical books among this muggle ones.
Lucia explain how some people say 'mother', 'mum' or 'mama'. She called her mom by her name. Cash themselves called their mum by mother, which a bit cold and rigid because those two words summarize how the whole Ironwoods' work. Cash once again nodded their head. Just like what they thought before, different families have different cultures.
Lucia describes how different it was since going to school. "Yeah, I know what you mean by that"The soon to be second year smile. "I mean before I went to school, thought all of Hufflepuffs are a bunch of annoying kids, no offence. Turns out you're guys are a bunch of intriguing people. Some still annoying for my liking but intriguing nonetheless."They stated.
"I even helped your fellow Badger conquers her fear of flying once"The young Serpent told the other girl. The fond memory is the highlight of their first year. They are proud for that accomplishment. Lucia seems picked up Cash discomfort when they briefly discussed about their father. Lucia then lean into one of the book shelved.
She is at ease in her own home and that bring a warm feeling toward the Serpent. Lucia then invites the Cuban descendant to see the other section. "Sure"Cash stated. "You sure your mother do not mind we wonder into that section?"Cash question. They did not want to step any boundaries and end up disrespecting the matriarchy figure of the Foxs'.@Lucia Fox

Fox's Magic Shop
Sorry for the late reply, @Cassandra Ironwoods"Thanks!" Lucia grinned, pleased that her friend did not look down on her for living above a shop, and not living in a fancy house like other purebloods.
However, Cash seemed to read her mind, and Lucia wasn't quite sure how to reply to their statement so instead just left her grin to fade away. It was true - many purebloods did live in manors and places like that, and Lucia was quite sure that her mother harboured a secret desire to live somewhere like that too.
Cash then said that they had thought the magical books were hidden between muggle ones, and Lucia couldn't help a small laugh from escaping her lips.
"No," she said, before remembering herself and lowering her voice. "They'd find them at some point, muggles are too busy for their own good really."
Next, the Slytherin told Lucia about their previous opinions of Hufflepuffs. Lucia blushed and ran an embarrassed hand through her hair.
"To be honest," she admitted, still keeping her voice low, "I thought that too, at first."
Merlin, Lucia thought, we can't talk in here at all!
Luckily, Cash accepted Lucia's offer of stepping into the magical section of the shop, even making sure that Ebony would not mind.
"Oh, no, she'll probably be pleased," Lucia told them, a smile playing on her lips.
Poking her head out from behind the bookshelf to see if the customer was there, Lucia was glad to see that he and the girl had gone, so she took Cash's hand and gently pulled them towards the counter, where Ebony was writing some figures down in a black book.
"Ebony," Lucia said, dropping Cash's hand and giving them a half-smile, half-grimace, "This is Cash. Cash, this is my mother Ebony."
She had almost added, 'Cash, Cash Ironwoods', but had decided not to. It didn't look like Cash would really have been all that pleased.
Ebony put down her pen quickly, with an air of 'thank Merlin I can stop doing that!' and held out her hand to Cash.
"Are you two school friends?" she asked, nodding towards Cash's jumper.

The more the green eye girl standing between row of books, those warm feeling crept up on them. Cash let out a sigh. Though Lucia's home surround with books, it did not seems cold and dusty. It feels warm and welcome, it is so contrary with how the Ironwoods Manor is. Sure their home is big, expensive and lavish but there a feeling that missing.
Warmth. Warmth was what missing inside the Ironwoods Manor. "I would kill to reside where you are. My house, well, too rigid for my liking"Cash let out a longing sigh. It is not they did not appreciate where they are living, it just Cash wishes that their family are more like how the Foxs' are. Inviting and warm.
Cash tilting their head still trying to read the many titles of books by its spine. "They'd find them at some point, muggles are too busy for their own good really"Lucia voice enter their ears. "Or you know, muggles are just noisy like that"Cash let out a small chuckle. From all the muggles that they were encountered back at school, a lot were talking how Cash is a fortunate kid.
Being an only child and coming from a pair of Purebloods. Oh only how they knew. "Wait! You thought your own house is annoying?"Cash stare at Lucia a bit disbelieve. Cash definitely did not see that coming. "I mean you are a Hufflepuff"Cash pointed out the obvious. "Okay, I need to ask you this,"Cash stated.
"When the Sorting Hat sorted you, what house were you hoping to be sorted into?"They inquire the girl. "I mean I know from the moment I sat down on that stool, I belong with the serpent"Cash smile. After Cash questioned whether Lucia's mother mind that both of the youngsters went into the magical section or not, Lucia tell the purple haired girl that her mother would be please.
All of sudden their hand being led by Lucia. At first Cash a bit taken aback by Lucia's action. A bit discomfort are what they felt from what Lucia doing but Cash pushed it aside. No one ever hold their hand like that. In their family a small pat in the shoulder or a brief hug is how the Ironwoods works.
There is no room for showing big affection. Affection is for the weakling their father once said.
Once Cash and Lucia stand in front of Lucia's mother. The Hufflepuff mother is writing something in a black book. Lucia greet their mother by her name. Cash still did not accustom how Lucia called her mother.
Lucia then dropped Cash's hand. Offering a half smile, half grimace to her mother. The young badger introduced Cash to her mother and vice versa. Ebony looked up then stopping what she's been doing. The matriarchy of the Foxs' held out her hand. Cash looks like had to familiarize themselves shaking hands when someone introduced themselves to the purple haired girl.
"Are you two school friends?"Ebony asked then nodding towards green eyes jumper. "Yes, ma'am"Cash stated in polite manner and shook Ebony hand. "It is very nice to meet you. What a lovely house you have here. Very homey and welcoming"Cash try not wincing with their selection of word.
If their father ever hear 'homey' was uttered by Cash, their father will pointed out how to describe one home with the correct one.
