Doxy Fever
With @Aurelia Notrésvace
July 25th 2020, 3:15 pm
There was nothing more boring to Eyre than being sat on a cushioned seat at a dress shop, surrounded by a sea of shopping bags while his sisters tried on dresses for the End of Summer Ball. His mum was the one who was hosting it for all of the pureblood families that year, so they wanted to look their best, and Eyre was being drug around for it.
Being the only boy in the family meant that he was an easy shop, so after his mum had thrown a fitted green tweed suit on him and decided that it "looked good enough", he had not only been assigned bag duty, but he had also gotten the displeasure of helping his twin sisters decide on their outfits.
"Eyre, which one do you think?" Margot asked, holding up a slim blue dress up to her body.
"...It looks good." He offered, only to be responded to with a huff.
"Just good? Really? What do you think, Morgana?" She said, turning to her twin who was trying to decide between two dark floral dresses. It seemed like Morgana didn't care much, either.
"I dunno, Margot. I think it'll wash you out." She said simply, causing Margot to turn back to her little brother with a glare.
"See! It'll wash me out! How am I supposed to make a good impression if I look like a corpse?" Margot tossed the dress onto a nearby chair of discarded articles. Eyre rested his arm on the windowsill behind him, putting his hand over his eyes and rolling them back into his head. If only he had a way to get out of this.
He glanced over to the window, something catching his attention right away as if it were an omen sent to him by some higher power. Aurelia Notresvace, the extremely intimidating yet attractive third year girl from his house was walking down the street. She glanced around to see if there was anyone around before disappearing inside of a ramshackled old apartment building that was squished in between two department stores, which only peaked Eyre's curiosity.
Maybe there was something in there that was worth seeing.
Call it naivety, but Eyre made up his mind quickly that he was going to see what she was up to. He didn't usually consider himself to be someone that would act impulsively for the sake of seeing what would happen, but he rationalized that surely nothing could've been worse than having to sit through another hour of Margot whining about how if she 'didn't find the perfect dress, no one would dance with her at the ball!' and so on and so forth. It was now or never. It was time to make his move, or be doomed to sit in the stupid chair all day long.
Eyre got up from said chair, walking over to his mum Camilla who was in a nearby dressing room. Camilla was trying to zip his sister Annalisa into a tight pink dress that was clearly not working for her, their heads conveniently poking out at the top of the curtained area so that Eyre could see that they were not having fun.
"Hey mum, can I go for a walk?"
"Why? I thought you were going to help Morgana and Margot." Camilla said between her teeth as she fumbled with the finnicky zipper, her long painted nails failing to grasp onto the little thing. "Damn! This thing will not pull up…" She mumbled in French.
"Mum! It's fine! This size is too tight…" Annalisa exclaimed with a sigh, letting the dress slip off of her shoulders. She looked at her mother over her shoulder. "I can help Margot and Morgana once you're done with me. You should let him walk around, mum. Eyre's probably bored to death…"
"...Right." Camilla said, sighing before looking at Eyre, who gave her a forced and urgent smile. "Please, be back soon. And be careful!"
"I will." He said in a rush without thinking twice, giving a grin to Annalisa before practically sprinting out the door.
Eyre crossed the street, walking down a block or two until he reached the apartment building. The door was propped open a little bit, so he was able to push it open with ease, stepping into the space.
_____
When he stepped into the musty hallway, it was clear that no one had lived there for a long time. The wood floors were scratched and stained up with what looked to be brown and red gunk, and the walls looked as though they'd been stained with a tea bag; sort of a mottled cream and beige color. He was glad that he wasn't wearing sandals today, despite the warm weather. Anything less than the boots that were on his feet, and his feet would surely be never clean again.
Eyre was distracted by a red glint in the corner of his eye. He glanced to his right, looking into one of the rooms where an ornate red curtain had been left behind, draped from a rod and covering a smudged up window. These curtains reminded him of some of the draperies that his grandmother in France had in her estate, and he was immediately drawn to them. Why would someone leave something of value like that behind?
He made his way to the curtain very slowly, reaching out his hand to pull the curtains back. He revealed a strange looking nest with what looked to be a pixie resting in the mouth of it, and immediately he was stoked. Eyre loved magical creatures, and he'd never seen one in the muggle world. Maybe the little fellas were lost.
Now, Eyre had never taken a COMC class before, but surely something with such large eyes and big ears wouldn't hurt him if he just reached out and booped it… would it? Once again, he wasn't one to be a dumbass, but he was fighting down the urge to give it a poke. And, sure enough, the impulse took over.
Eyre reached his hand over very gently, almost touching the tip of its ear, and...
CRUNCH
The wretched thing woke immediately and latched onto his hand with a hiss, biting down onto his flesh with his two rows of razor sharp teeth. It hurt more than anything that he'd ever experienced before. The heat from the bite was like liquid fire, the searing sensation traveling up his arm and into his neck as if someone had jabbed a hot poker straight through his hand. The pain had seized up his arm to the point that he couldn't even shake it off, and all he could do was let out a choked scream that was almost inhuman.
Making sound was a horrible decision. The hoard inside of the hive practically leapt at the opportunity to attack him, the evil little things taking turns tormenting him with their vicious bites as if one wasn't enough. His knees buckled fast and he fell onto the floor as he was attacked again and again, each razor sharp bite feeling as excruciating as the first as they were delivered all over his body. Eventually they stopped, leaving Eyre stretched out on the ground on his back, arms bent over his head as he gasped out for help. If no one could save him, he knew that he was truly done for.

Doxy Fever
Magic was forbidden outside of school, that was for sure. Astrehilde made sure of that. There was no need for a wand for her very first mission. Reliance on magic was not necessary, in fact, her Grandmother discouraged it, rather, supplying the little novice monster hunter with all the tools from lock picks to crossbows. The woman had only set the child on the mission after confiscating the girl's wand.
The mission: exterminate a nest of doxies in an old house along a street in London. Muggles everywhere. As an aristocratic pureblood, Aurelia was used to modest dresses, never trousers, she would admit that her outfit was not quite suited for the job, but nevertheless, it aided in blending into the crowds of ordinary non-magical folk.
Navigating her way through the streets, the young monster hunter soon found the building, it was old, and run down. A perfect place for doxy haven. With a skillful picking of the lock, a satisfying click signaled the unlocking of the latch. The fourteen-year old stepped into the building, the gloom of shadows seemed to flicker at her presence, as if acknowledging her appearance. Light seeped through the cracked walls and along the hallway. Which room the nest was, Astrehilde had never mentioned.
Heaving a sigh through her lips, Aurelia began her search, a vail of doxycide spray in hand. Her planned was simple, find the nest, spray with doxycicide, toss some oil on them and the colony on fire. Easy. Or so she thought. A bloodcurdling cry startled the monster hunter, a pivot in the direction she found one of the doors opened and the buzzing and screeching of the furious creatures. However, the scream was undeniably human. Someone had gotten to the nest before her.
The hem of her dress flared behind her and she sprinted towards the area only to find a boy harrassed by a hoard of purple little beasts crawling and hovering agitatedly around him. "What in the-" She had managed to say before the boy let out another piercing cry, causing her to wince. In one corner, partially obscured behind a moth-bitten dusty old curtain was a cavity in the wall. The nest. There were dozens of them, triggered by the boy they were now brutally attacking. How did he find his was here, she could only guess. He had interrupted her mission, and now, she had to go with the more streneous plan B.
"Don't move, you will only make it worse!" Easier said than done. Doxy bites were excrutiating. With a swift movement of her arm, she impaled one of the creatures with a dagger, its head coming lose off its head and rolling on the ground. Aurelia had only recently bought the piece of apparel, she quite liked it, it would be a shame if it was so quickly stained with the blood of pests. Funny it was that the monster hunter cared more about her outfit than the poor boy writhing in vain on the ground.
Doxy venom was fatal, thankfully, it would only kill one of the boy's size in approximately less than an hour. A boy like him could last that long, she was sure about it. For now, she had her own problems to deal with for her terrifying presence did not go unnoticed. It was not too long before the tiny monsters her way (reason why they stopped?). With her training, Aurelia manouvred gracefully, dodging the attacks of the agressors and slaying them with doxycide and slashed of her sleek weapon. It was a grotesque badass fight scene of a sci-fi horror movie, blood splattering everywhere all except the girl's stature.

Doxy Fever
Interacting with @Aurelia Notrésvace
The only thing that could put the fear into him at that moment, other than the nest, was the terrifying look of fury on Aurelia's face when she saw how badly he fucked things up. The older girl had a look in her eyes that felt like it was melting flesh off of his bones. Or, maybe, that was the burning feeling that was starting to radiate through the trunk of his body and through each limb, connecting each and every wound into a network of pain.
"Don't move, you will only make it worse!" She snapped at him. Eyre's desire to cry out in pain was replaced with fearful shaking as he tried to keep himself still. Of course, this proved to be impossible, his legs and arms trembling as the searing sensation ripped itself through his body.
"A-a-a-aurelia... I'm s-s-s-s-s-orrry...." He slurred, his face turning white. He didn't even know if the girl had recognized him, or even cared, but he wanted to make his apology known. It was clear that she was sent there to probably eradicate the little bastards, and he'd made life more difficult. Like I always do, he thought. Tears started to spill from his eyes. Here came the waterworks. And, the blood. Aurelia started to slay the things in front of him, the blood splattering all over him and staining his clothes. If he was even the slightest bit coherent, he would be grossed out, but he knew that nothing could be worse than what he just experienced.
In the moments when you're close to death, he learned, you get a certain sense of clarity. He knew at that moment that he needed to do something to help. Even if he was going to die, he had to give a go at helping Aurelia for getting her into the mess they were in. He moved his arm, gasping out in pain as he started to reach towards his wand, but decided that it was a useless effort. Even if he did cast a spell, his lack of aim (and his lack of coherency) could end in disasterous results. Or worse, expulsion.
Eyre felt even more terrified at this realization, and started to let out another pathetic sob, raising his head towards Aurelia. "I'm going to d-d-d-ie, a-a-aren't I?!" He asked her in a hysterically angry and horrified voice, panic starting to course through his body. "I'm g-g-going to f-f-fucking d-d-d-d-ie, and no one is going to k-k-know or c-c-c-care..." He could picture his mum and his sisters in the dress shop, gushing over their outfit choices as he unknowingly perishes on the floor of the abandoned apartment. And the saddest part is that they probably wouldn't notice until they were home.
He dropped his head back onto the floor, closing his eyes. He felt woozier than before, and he could've sworn that he was starting to hallucinate. Just as Eyre was about to give in, he heard something drop near his head which made him open his eyes and turn his head towards it. While Aurelia was slashing and cutting the heads off of the final bouts of creatures, a bottle of hers started to roll towards the corner of the uneven room, settling near the edge of an abandoned fireplace. It must've been some sort of pesticide. This was his one chance to finally make things right.
Regardless of how much the room was spinning and how much pain he was in, he rolled himself over and started to drag himself and his lifeless legs towards the fireplace. As soon as he got his blood soaked fingers around the bottle, he pulled himself up so that he was sitting up against the wall. At that moment, the Doxy queen had arrived. She flew out of the hive, gnashing her teeth and trying to intimidate Aurelia, and it looked like the girl didn't have much fight left in her. There was no time to be pathetic anymore. That was his target, and when the time was right, he was going to strike.

Doxy Fever
How long had it been? Ten? Fifteen minutes? Half an hour? All she knew was that her arm was aching, the growing soreness within her muscles were begging her to stop every time she swung the silver dagger. It would not be too long before her strength would wear out and she would not be able to carry her defence tactics out with such agility and precise accuracy.
Head after head the razor sharp edge of her knife had decapitated, yet by luck or sheer expertise, the rose garment she wore had not a splotch of blood. By now, the room was littered with dozens of alien-like heads on the ground. The screeches of the creatures that rung in her ears with every slash of her weapon was slowly diminishing.
The distressed cries of the boy was distracting, even more so when he called her by her name. For a moment, Aurelia froze in action, claws from one of the little purple beast narrowly missing her pretty face. Glancing at the boy, her brain registered his face, searching for a definitive feature that would match with someone she would ever had encountered. Gryffindor. He was a boy from her house. What ever his name, Aurelia could not be bothered, for now, she had to slay a few more doxies.
"I'm going to d-d-d-ie, a-a-aren't I?! I'm g-g-going to f-f-fucking d-d-d-d-ie, and no one is going to k-k-know or c-c-c-care..." the injured boy had screeched, once again, distracting her from her main objective.
However, this time, luck was not on her side as a second of her faltering focus was all it took for a doxy to latch on to her armed hand, its venomous fangs digging into her skin and piercing the fragile layer. The searing pain jolted up the length of her arm, it felt as if the bite had caused her muscles to reek of acid, burning and gnawing from the inside out. Instinctively, stifling a scream, a scream that likely could have shattered the old windows of the ancient building if it weren't for her efforts to contain, the girl's throbbing hand released its grip and the silver dagger clanged noisily onto the ground.
Despite the pain, her other hand reached for the beast on the end of her injured hand and with whatever strength she could muster, tore the creature off before ending it antennas first slammed down on the floor. Now with her weapon no where to be found and blood now on her dress Aurelia would have to endure the rest of the doxy extermination single-handed. Literally. To be frank, Aurelia was not quite sure if that was even possible I could have been much better if Eyre had not interrupted her mission. "You will only die if I do!" The lioness roared in frustration.
Tackling a few more doxies and brutally uncensored-ly tearing of their heads with her bare hand, Aurelia was too focus on the task at hand until it was too late. The queen, almost three times the size of the little beasts sunk her fangs into her forearm.

Doxy Fever
Interacting with @Aurelia Notrésvace
There was not much that Eyre could say in words about his current condition, but the best that he could explain it would be irredeemable wooziness. If he were to lose consciousness, he was sure that he'd be dead. He watched as Aurelia was bitten, and, for a second he was certain that he wouldn't have any other option but to die. The silver dagger, the item that'd kept them alive for so long, fell to the ground as the girl collapsed. In a moment of clarity, he thought to himself- am I the reason why she dropped it? From distracting her?
Although his brain felt as though it was a carton of tipped-over milk, even he could acknowledge that the scene was especially brutal as Aurelia had ripped through the evil things with her one hand. At that point, it was time to act. He propped himself up higher on the wall, wincing as his trembling hand was grasping the neck of the Doxycide. He tried to toss the bottle, but as soon as he tried, his arm flopped back down to the floor like it was made out of dough. His strength was completely shot.
He gritted his teeth, taking the thing into his two hands as he watched the girl struggle to fight. Her determination was unwavering, but failing, as she was covered in blood and fighting for their lives. In the midst of her struggle, she shouted to him:
"You will only die if I do!"
This was like a battle call to him, the synapses in his head firing off as he tried with all of his might to lift the bottle. He almost felt as though his teeth might shatter if he were to clench them any harder as his wobbly arms were lifted over his head. As soon as the Doxy Queen had bit into Aurelia's forearm, he let out an angered cry as he fought against the pain and the loss of energy that was surging through him, hurling the bottle at the queen with his last burst of life. It burst on impact, covering the creature with the solution and shards of glass. The Queen let out a horrid squeal that was enough to shatter Eyre's eardrums as she perished gruesomely, turning into a twisted gooey heap on the floor.
Eyre gave a dead stare to the sight of the Queen dying, his mouth open and panting as his vision started to twist and turn, sparkling and crackling like a burnt out bulb. He was dying. This was the last thing he would see, Aurelia in pain on the ground, surrounded in blood. At least I tried to save her, he thought to himself, the thought ominously echoing through his skull as everything got hazier and hazier. He tried to speak out, but all he could muster was a ghostly mumble before his eyes rolled back into his head, smacking the back of his head on the wall before he collapsed. Although the Reeves boy looked as though he may have been dead, his heart was still beating. Perhaps there was still time to save him...
