This was getting to be pretty fun. Little damage had been done to her team, it seemed, though they hadn't gone unscathed thus far, and Karilyna had managed not to get hit yet. Oh, but here came more spells. She was perfectly ready to counter with some of her own, and in fact already had a target in mind. The objective of the game was to knock out the queen, so what was the clearest path of action? Well, hit the queen, of course. But nothing was ever so easy.
One of the opposing team's bishops had stepped forward, abandoning her original post to stand in front of the white team's queen, effectively defending him from an attack from the front. It wasn't unlike something one of her own team's bishops had done just moments before, as Karilyna was quite securely protected for the moment; still, she couldn't help but be disgruntled at the fact that she would be unable to make another mark on the queen from her angle.
"Flipendo." The incantation left her mouth clearly, the wand motion swift. If hitting the queen wasn't an option, perhaps it would help to try to move the girl in front [Raine] out of the way. But despite what seemed like a perfect cast, the girl had leapt out of the way--and rather spectacularly so, Karilyna had to admit. The Thunderbird huffed in frustration as the spell shot past her target, fading into nothing.
She had to ignore her failure, though, because the game still had to go on, after all. She'd never been a quitter and wasn't about to start now. With new resolve, she grinned at her teammates, a wordless note of encouragement. They were definitely a bright and capable group, and Karilyna had no doubt they could win this. All they had to do was keep on fighting.

The rag felt cool against naturally warm hands and it was with this wind that he realised what had happened.
Smoke. Damn, what had he done? The sudden shock of his own failed plan made him suck in a gasp, black smoke filling his lungs and mouth with a gritty sense of self-deprecation as if he had tipped back a glass bottle and taken a mouthful of sulphur head-on. Right, fumos was dependent on the caster. With a faint sneer and a heavy cough, the boy waved a hand in front of him in a futile attempt of clearing the already dissipating fog.
That had failed miserably. Er, but at least the smoke made it so that he had any semblance of cover in the open turf? That was a stretch, but entirely plausible considering just how thick it swirled around him. Too thick. He couldn't see. But he could use this to his advantage. Quick mind and an even quicker mouth to spare racing, a bolt of realisation struck him.

Chess Combat, Game TWO
Lots of spells and a lot of movement. Three players made their moves, trying to secure as much space as possible while placing themselves into proper position to cast spells. Johannes moved swiftly without drawing much attention. Neculai moved while being shot at, but to his luck, Alexei failed to send the spell his way. Milosh wasn't that lucky and got hit by Evanore's spell just before making the move. Fortunately, there was no cell behind him to be knocked in, so he finished his move anyway.
In the opposite side of the board, three people tried to destroy a slim redhead by sending three knockback jinxes at her. She graciously dodged the first one, with a bit more effort dodged the second one but than Erik, standing really close to her, aim at her. It seemed that at the same time she aimed at him and BOOM. Maybe she spent all her concentration on dodging, and Erik was just disoriented by her impertinence, but both spells (Katrina's and Erik's) backfired. Maybe the two spells connected in some epic way (imagine Voldy and Harry) and that caused some huge explosion. But in reality not one of them managed to cast it properly and Erik, while being slightly knocked back, stayed in his position (Karilyna may have 'caught' him) and Katrina's sleeve caught fire.Team Compositions

Bridget did not like failing. And if there was something she hated even more than failing once, it was failing twice. The Flipendo she sent at her red-haired friend was once again dodged, sailing harmlessly past. She perhaps wouldn't have been so frustrated if her teammates' identical casts had worked, but their Queen's missed and Erik's backfired. She grimaced; that had to have hurt in more ways than one.
And then Katrina's fire-making spell backfired on her and the Gryffindor was set aflame. Bridget winced for her, but there wasn't anything she could do. They were still playing, so she couldn't just waste an action putting her out. Right now, her team came first. That didn't mean she had to completely ignore her friend as she faced her biggest fear, though. "Katrina? Look, you're going to be okay. It's just a duel, remember?"
Hopefully that would be enough, because that was as much time as she could spend not focusing on the game and she wasn't really sure what you were supposed to say anyways. Honey-colored eyes surveyed the board and the movements that had been made, following the paths each person could cast from their position. Taking a breath to forget the last two poor outcomes of her spells, she prepared for her next move.

Erik was, literally, taken aback, not only by his own ineptitude to cast such a simple spell, but also the backlash it had caused him to fall flat on his back. What had gone wrong?!, he wondered as he looked into the bleak nothingness in front of him. He couldn't say for sure. The pure-blood must have slurred his words, even if he wasn't sure. Of course it wasn't anything like him. Being raised to always pronounce everything correctly and clearly, but he had put some stress on himself. As he tried to push himself back on his feet, he looked over at his prey. A hint of a smile appeared on his face as he saw her sleeve catch fire. So, I'm not the only one who messed up, huh?
The werewolf, his fists were itching. How desperately he wanted to use them. You can't! Focus! Focus clearly! Erik shook his head before aiming his blackthorn wand again. Flipendo!

The Ravenclaw had moved from position. Yet he hadn't exactly had the chance to get in the fun part just yet. But now that would change. Daunted by the sight of Erik, who had failed to throw a spell at someone of the opposing team he saw the Slytherin grunting.
"Well let's hope I'll fare better." At that thought hid pale hand rose and the cherry wooden wand was aimed at his target. "Focus, Neculai!" Was all he could think. Making the by now so oh familiar wandmovement and clearly stating the incantation.

Charmer & FearlessAh the satisfaction of successfully hitting a spell you’ve Just cast. And especially flipendo, there was something quite exciting about that spell in combat. Evanore watched as the boy was hit by her knockback jinx, right before he moved out of his square to another. Realizing he was no longer in Evanore’s range to cast to, she looked around wondering what she would do next. What would benefit her and the team most? There were always opportunities to be analyzed and considered, and the time was limited considering there was constant movement and spellcasting all around. «No time to waste, let’s win this thing», she said quietly to no one in particular as she readied her next action.[/font]Action: Doing as Strategized

Katrina wished she had some sort of clue what was going on. There was a burst of yells and she noticed with wide eyes three spells careening toward her. She didn't have time to thing and just crouched onto the ground as fast as she could, careful to stay in her little box. When the bursts of light crossed overhead she stood up and dusted herself off, hiding the fear and the bit of rage she was feeling. Why did they have to go for me? And Bridget too? What is going on? It all seemed too well planned.
Katrina raised her arm, slightly shaking from the pure adrenaline coursing through her veins and cast the fire spell. Not normal for someone who was petrified of fire to cast a fire spell, but drastic measures call for drastic actions. Well, that didn't work out quite as she planned because a flash of light erupted and a little bang and Katrina's head was spinning when she realized her sleeve was on fire.
Instantly she froze, watching the little tendrils of burning light creep up her sleeve. Fire. The thing that killed her parents. The thing that killed her brother. How she lost her home. How she lost everything she held close. Her chest sized up and she was petrified still. NO PANIC ATTACKS KAT. You have made it through before. Just breathe, come on, just breathe. Her heart was racing her head was pounding and it was all she could do to remember that she was in a game, not a school ball.
"Katrina? Look, you're going to be okay. It's just a duel, remember?" The voice was meant for her. Katrina was able to snap out of her thoughts at the comforting voice. The Gryffindor looked Bridget in the eye and mouthed 'thank you'.
The worst part of it all was that it was all psychosocial. The instant she could get her mind somewhat in check, she was fine to keep herself in the game. In fact, she simply ignored the flames and instead felt anger rise up. Are you bloody killing me? Katrina had been able to dodge three Flippindo's, but one easy fire spell backfired on her. She wasn't going down that easily.

If there was anything that Raine remembered from those old Muggle movies it was the 5 Ds: Dip, Dive, Dodge, Duck, and Dodge. She was definitely happy that her dodging skills were on point because she definitely would be a pancake if she hadn't dodged that last attack. But she wasn't going to let any old boy try to take her down. She eyed her opponents and kept her eyes glued onto the one she would be taking her wand to.
